In this episode I discuss Religious Scrupulosity, which is a sub-type of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder concerning religious or moral issues. As always, I tried to shoehorn more information in it that I really need. Hopefully the episode didn’t go too far off the rails. I can’t believe it took me this long to get to talking about Scrupulosity, but here we are.
I discuss what Religious Scrupulosity is, how it differs from general religious doubt, and how to treat it with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Lastly, I go over a tool found in Dr. Ian Osborn’s book, Can Christianity Cure My Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. )
As mentioned in the episode, here is the link to Dr. Ted Witzig’s Principles of Effective And Religiously-Sensitive Exposures )
Finally, here are some other books or resources I either mentioned in the episode or think might be helpful:
Understanding Scrupulosity), by Thomas SantaThe Doubting Disease), by Joseph W. CiarrocchiScrupulosity: Where OCD Meets Faith, Religion, and Belief), by Kevin Foss, MFT
