So welcome back amigos y amigas, welcome back to the show. Today we are diving into the world of artificial intelligence, specifically artificial intelligence or AI for short, on your mobile phones, on your smartphones.

With the latest software updates that are coming around, I'm pretty sure everyone's got some AI update on their phones. Whether you're using Samsung or iPhone, AI or artificial intelligence is becoming more accessible and integrated into our daily lives. But what does this mean for you and how can you use it to improve your English?

Let's find out. That's coming up in today's episode. Hey, but first, a dad joke. I love dad jokes. What do you call a security guard working at Samsung? What do you call a security guard working at Samsung? A guardian of the galaxy. A guardian of the galaxy. If you have, if you own a Samsung phone,

You will actually find this joke funny. Hopefully everybody's got that joke. If you haven't, why did we even mention Galaxy? Because Galaxy is one of the Samsung products. It's the suite of their mobile phones. Samsung Galaxy. I've got a Samsung Galaxy phone.

And hence the joke. And it's also a reference to that movie, Guardian of the Galaxy. Okay. I have always had a Samsung phone. I know there are people who only buy iPhones, but my go-to smartphone is Samsung. It used to be Motorola and Nokia when Nokia was, you know, alive back in the day when it was popular. Do Nokia still make phones? No.

Didn't they try to make a comeback? Was it last year? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.

Hmm, maybe somebody is listening to this podcast on their Nokia phone. That would be interesting. Alrighty, amigos y amigas. I want to talk more about the Samsung phone, especially their new operating system. There's a new update from Samsung. By the way, this episode may be relevant to anyone who owns any smartphone. It doesn't need to be Samsung. I'm sure Apple is also rolling out some AI updates.

Radio, I hope I didn't lose some people so far. I know there are a lot of you Apple fans out there listening to the show on Apple Podcasts and you seem to be quite loyal to Apple. But bear with me, please. This is relevant to you, amigos y amigas. This episode is relevant to everybody who owns a smartphone. So, amigos y amigas, let me ask you this. Have you heard about the latest update from Samsung?

If you're using a Galaxy device, you might have noticed some new features popping up on your phone. Samsung has rolled out their Galaxy AI features, which are designed to make life easier, more productive, and even more connected. I'll talk about a couple of their new features that are just fantastic. I think they are out of this world. It involves artificial intelligence.

And maybe a little bit of human intelligence. We'll see. Someone needs to use this phone. So human intelligence is required. Okay, number one feature, live translate feature. One of the coolest features, I would say, of Galaxy AI is how it helps with communication, especially when you're dealing with different languages.

For example, Live Translate allows you to translate voice and text during phone calls in real time. Imagine calling a friend who speaks another language and having a conversation without any language barriers. You can speak to them in your language and they reply in their language and it's all translated live with AI.

Wow, it's just amazing. Okay, it's out of this world. Five years ago, I would never have guessed this would happen today. Okay, so feature number two. What's the feature number two? Is interpreter feature. There's also this interpreter feature, which is perfect for when you're traveling. Let's say you're in a foreign country and want to chat with a local person.

The interpreter feature can translate live conversations showing both languages on your screen in split screen mode. This makes it so much easier to engage in meaningful conversations even if you don't speak the same language fluently. Amazing! Are you shocked so far with all these features? I've only named two features and these are the two that I thought were really standing out. There's another one as well.

Number three that I want to share with you is the Transcript Assist. Okay, that's the name for this feature, Transcript Assist.

Right, this is a game changer for anyone who needs to transcribe or summarize meetings, lectures, or even podcasts like my podcast. It uses AI to convert speech into text, generate summaries, and translate content if needed. It's an incredible tool for learning English because it allows you to interact with the language in real time. So those three features that I've just named are

are the ones that I just wanted to share with you. And these all use AI, artificial intelligence. Let me share my podcasting journey with you, Amigos y Amigas. So I've been doing this podcast, I think, seven years. Okay, so I'm going to share a little story with you. When I first started podcasting, AI tools like these didn't exist. I had to type out all my transcripts, word for word, for each of my previous episodes.

It was a labor of love, okay? I enjoyed doing this because I was able to share it with you all. But let me tell you, amigos y amigas, it was time consuming, okay? It would take an additional half an hour to an hour just to fix my transcripts, you know, make sure that it all reads nicely, okay?

In addition to recording and editing and then publishing the show, okay, this all takes time. So I remember spending hours typing, editing, and formatting transcripts, making sure every word was accurate. It was a great learning experience, but it also made me realize how much work goes into creating quality content. But now things have changed so quickly with AI coming in, features like Transcript Assist by Samsung,

You can now automatically transcribe and summarize audio with just a few clicks. What used to take hours now takes minutes. It's amazing how technology has evolved and it's still early days, amigos y amigos, with this AI who knows what the future holds.

And can you imagine this was only seven years ago? I don't think that was a long time ago when I used to do things manually, right? Only seven years has passed and here we are. AI has made it easier. So you'll hear me on every episode promoting the EMS transcript.

I offer the EMS transcripts as a chance for you to support the EMS show. It takes a lot of time still to prepare one episode. It takes about two to four hours of my time just for one episode. It may take me four hours to prepare a show, but it takes AI less than a minute to write the transcripts. AI is eating my lunch, literally.

Anyhow, I get a lot of messages from people around the world who enjoy the EMS podcast and that is what keeps me going. It motivates me to keep going with this show. So I really enjoy receiving messages from people from around the world. So let me just quickly tell you about some pros or benefits of AI in language learning. Okay.

I'm sure everybody will be on board with this very, very quickly. So the advancements in AI are not just about convenience. They are also about making learning more accessible. Imagine being able to translate a conversation in real time, transcribe a lecture instantly.

or get a summary of a news article on the go in any language. These tools are powerful for anyone learning a new language because they remove barriers and make it easier to practice and improve. Once I gather courage to update my Samsung phone, so I've been delaying to update my phone for a few months, I'll test the live translate feature first with my mother-in-law from Chile.

My Spanish is not as great as it used to be, so I struggle to speak with her sometimes in my rusty Spanish. And she doesn't speak any English. So that could be a big test for me and also for this new feature that's coming up on the Samsung phone. I can put it to action. I can test it and see how that goes. I can maybe share it with you. I'll share my experience with you, okay?

I guess you can now say with 100% certainty, with all these AI advancements, there is absolutely no excuse for learning a new language. You can't use the time as an excuse anymore. Oh, I don't have time. Yes, you do. You now have plenty of time because AI is doing all the hard work now. And guys, all this AI...

we are experiencing today, well, this is just the beginning. As AI continues to develop, the possibilities for learning and communication will expand even further. It's an exciting time to be a language learner and I'm thrilled to see how these tools can help you on your English journey. I will be utilizing some of these tools myself. Okie dokie. This all makes sense, amigos y amigas.

Alrighty, let's look at some phrases from today's episode. Okay, I use the phrase real-time. Real-time. Happening immediately without delay. Okay, translation in real-time means it's happening instantly, immediately. Okay, language barriers. What does it mean when somebody says language barriers? Difficulties in communication due to not speaking the same language. And transcribe barriers.

The actual word to transcribe, it's a verb to convert spoken words into written text. So I used to manually transcribe my episodes. Now they are being done automatically by AI. And to summarize, okay, I use the word summarize to create a brief overview of the main points. Or in other words, to conclude. So when someone says to summarize, they mean to conclude.

So, amigos y amigas, whether you're using these AI tools to improve your English or simply to make your life a little easier, remember that we are living in a time of incredible innovation. So embrace the change, keep learning and stay curious. The future is full of possibilities and a few robots. Let's just hope it doesn't turn into a scene from the Terminator.

That would be one major disadvantage to AI technology if it starts turning against us. Let's hope it doesn't go that way. But back to English learning, amigos y amigas.

There's something you still have to do yourself. AI or not, you still have to do this yourself.
