Gentle and nice. So not thrilling and speedy and workaholic. Whenever I say, I'm going to take a little rest, I feel like I'm a hundred years old on a mountain somewhere really boring. And yet, rest may be the smartest, most effective, most invigorating thing we can do. It may be paradoxical, but rest is the workaholic's best friend, making us even more productive.

And yet many of us don't tend to give ourselves permission to rest. Why are we so afraid of resting? Well, I've thought about it and resting requires letting go. Resting means admitting that we're human, vulnerable, subject to the rhythms of nature. Rest means we have needs, that we aren't invincible. Rest means we're not in charge. But here's another paradox. By admitting that we're not in charge,

we have more control. By admitting that we're not all powerful, we have more power. Giving into rest is actually a superpower. But we shouldn't need these fancy reasons to love rest. Rest means we're off the clock, freed from activity, focus, and work. How great is that? And in case you're not sold yet, here's a list of some famous resters who appreciated the benefits of a good nap

Aristotle, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Thatcher, Stephen King, and Mark Cuban. They all prioritize or prioritized rest. Highly effective, often creative, and prolific people who had no shame in resting regularly. Well, I'm here to officially start the resting club.

I'm making it a thing for the cool kids. We rest. Rest is downright sexy, man. When in doubt, rest. So get yourself into a safe and comfortable position and let's begin. Allow your eyes to close easily and gently. And bring your awareness to your breathing. And just notice how easily your awareness comes back to your breath. If you've practiced here for a while,

your mind is getting stronger and stronger, focusing more easily. And this place that you come to every night when you bring your awareness back to your breath, you can come here during the day, just landing back home in your body, bringing your consciousness back to your body. Just practice that during the day and see what happens. Good. Now bring your awareness up into your eyelids,

And imagine now that the little muscles in your eyelids are feeling relaxed, heavy, sleepy, loose and limp. And as your eyelids are getting heavier and heavier, I'd like you to accept the suggestion that your eyelids are so relaxed that they simply will not open. And now I'm going to ask you to test your eyelids in a moment to make sure your eyes

will not open and all you need to do is just wiggle your eyebrows as your eyes remain shut. And we're just playing a game here. We're just imagining your eyes won't open. But by imagining, we're opening up a huge room in your mind. So, accepting the suggestion that your eyelids are so relaxed that they simply will not open, test them now by wiggling your eyebrows, give them a good tug.

as your eyes remain closed. Beautiful, beautiful. So tonight, I'd like you to imagine that you're entering a place. This is your personal restorium, a place where you get to rest and restore yourself. Everything in this place makes you feel comfortable and safe. What does this room look like? You decide. Does it have windows?

And if so, how many? And what do they look out on? How high is the ceiling? There's no right or wrong choice. Just go with whatever feels good tonight. As you take yourself deeper and deeper, your body feeling nice and heavy on the bed. As your head sinks further into the pillow. What color are the walls? What does the floor look like?

Is there anything hanging on the wall? Your restorium is perfect for you. So just allow your subconscious mind to create whatever feels comfortable. Good. You notice there's a bed in this room. What does it look like? How big is it? What color are its blankets or coverings? How many pillows does it have? What do the sheets look like?

and feel like. It's fun to let these details emerge. Just go with them. This place calms you down and makes you feel good. In your personal restorium, you're automatically going deeper and deeper. You feel safe here. You feel safe. And as you relax in this place, you may be aware of sounds going on around you.

at least for a little while. And that's okay, because no sound that you hear will bother or disturb you in any way. And in fact, because you're so relaxed, any sound that you hear will actually take you deeper and even deeper into relaxation. Bring your awareness now to any sounds going on around you and let them take you deeper. The music on this recording is also

Taking you deeper and deeper. And the sound of my voice is also bringing you even deeper inside yourself. Even deeper into relaxation. And because you're becoming nice and relaxed now, even the sound of my voice and the music will begin to feel like they're in the distance as you detach and go on your own beautiful ride.

and to sleep inside yourself. Imagine lying down now on the bed in your Restorium. As the lights go down, the room may become completely dark or whatever darkness works for you. And you may see the moonlight coming through the window. You choose, you choose what feels right. Now that you're lying down on the bed, imagine the top of your head

that place where your hair spiral is. Imagine it relaxing. Imagine any energy that you might be holding unconsciously at the top of your head is now spreading and melting and releasing. Good. Any ideas or beliefs that you may have had that you need to hold tight in this area

any feeling you have of protecting yourself in this place. Have a vapor. It feels good to let the energy at the top of your head release and expand into the atmosphere. Good. Bring your awareness now to the center of your brain. Perhaps you feel like you need to keep thinking to stay connected with the world and ideas

while you rest. But your brain needs to rest too. And it's getting a vacation tonight. As you notice that the center of your brain feels like it's releasing and relaxing. Sort of melting into relaxation. Energy moving out your forehead, out your face, expanding out the sides of your head.

and even out the back of your head. Letting go. I give myself permission to let go. It's safe to rest and let go. As your awareness moves down into your throat now. And just notice the energy around your throat softening, relaxing, melting. In case you feel that you need to keep expressing, talking, connecting with the world,

It's okay to let go at the throat. Your inner being is communicating with the world regardless of what you say. So your throat can relax now. Energy moving out the front of your neck, the sides of your neck, and out through the back of your neck. Releasing in all directions. I give myself permission to rest, to rest,

As you bring your awareness down now to your heart. Feel all that energy in the center of your chest. Whole world of activity in and around as you allow this area to relax and release. Sort of melting. Even if you feel you need to stay connected emotionally with loved ones or with the world at large.

It's okay to let your heart relax. It's okay to let it rest. And as your heart restores itself, your emotional bonds get stronger. And as it rests, your heart heals itself. Imagine your heart energy releasing through your chest, through the sides of your ribcage. Imagine your heart energy relaxing

and releasing through your back. Your heart energy moves in all directions. Letting go, letting go. Now bring your awareness to the palms of your hands. Notice how sensitive these portals of energy, both giving and receiving throughout the day. Any tension that may have built up your mind or upper body is moving down

like a gentle stream down your arm. As your arms become nice and soft and relaxed and heavy. And that tension moves all the way down into your hands, releasing out your palms. Perhaps you've had ideas about holding on to things or controlling things. But as this tension moves down,

and out your palm. You're letting go. And by letting go, you're becoming stronger, better able to hold what you need to hold. And resting and opening your palms is making you better at receiving. As your hands open and your fingers relax, you can receive. As you bring your awareness now to your solar plexus,

right in the middle of your torso, right below where your ribs come together. Just allow this part of your body to relax. You may feel that you need to remain in control, to keep pushing forward in your world. But you are resting now, taking yourself deeper and deeper. And it's okay to let go, because as you rest, you are nourishing

your ambitions, feeding your dreams, creating more possibilities. So allow any tension that resides in your solar plexus to release into the atmosphere. Energy releasing at the sides of your body. Energy releasing from the middle of your back. Energy moving out in all directions as you rest, as you rest.

Bring your awareness down now into your belly, deep in your belly, below your navel. This is a very powerful part of your body, center of deep intelligence. And it is relaxing now, even if you felt a need in the past to clench your gut, to protect you from surprises, to protect you from vulnerability.

By resting, your intuition is becoming stronger and you're protecting yourself in a whole new way. You know things in your gut and you behave from your higher self as you allow this area to release and relax, melting into rest, energy releasing from your belly and also expanding through your hip and your lower back.

expand and releasing into rest as you bring your awareness now to the area at the bottom of your spine. There's lots of energy down here, creative, powerful energy. You may have felt in the past that you needed to control this energy or to repress it, but now as you rest, you give it permission to flow and release energy.

into the atmosphere. It flows to the front, into the back, down into the earth, and also up along your spine. This powerful creative energy supports your whole body, bringing vitality. And as you rest, you are nourishing yourself. As you allow your legs to rest, and they're getting heavier and heavier,

Relaxation moving all the way down into your feet. As you bring your awareness to the souls, perhaps you've ignored your feet for most of the day or pulled away from their sensitivity. But as you rest, you're fully here right now in this moment in your life. And the souls of your feet are your portals to the planet. They connect with the earth

all day connecting you to the earth in perfect balance. Any tension that may have built up over the day in your lower body is moving down through your leg, down through the soles of your feet into the earth. Your whole body is at rest now and it's free to follow its innate wisdom. Your body is repairing itself.

Your body is healing itself. Your brain is recalibrating. Your immune system is strengthening itself. New cells are being born as others. Imagine the bed you're lying on is becoming pure positive energy. And as you relax, you are filling with this energy, drinking it in.

It's coming in through the back of your head, filling your head, through the back of your neck, warming your throat, through the back of your chest, chest, pure positive energy, through the back of your torso, the back of your pelvis, the bottom of your spine, supporting your whole body, filling your whole body as you drift,

and flow and dream.
