And welcome back to Sisters Who Kill. Jealousy is the ugliest trait. Never do it. But if you do it, don't do it like this. Our players this week are Mahogany Porter, our victim, and Jamaica's daughter. Sean Porter Jr., our victim, and Jamaica's son. Sharonda Porter, our victim, and Jamaica's daughter. Jontae Porter, our victim, and Jamaica's daughter.

Cordier Porter, victim, and Jameka's son. Sienna Porter, victim, and Jameka's daughter. Jameka Clark, victim. Tashia Harper, accomplice, and Zakiya's cousin. Maheem Starks, accomplice. Thomas Dale, Zakiya's baby daddy. And Zakiya Harper,

Our murderess. Zakiya Monique Harper was born on September 29th, 1982. Now, I have to let you guys know we do not have much about her background, but I know that she has two children and her baby's daddy, his name is Thomas Dale, but people just call him TJ. She and him, they went back and forth as most people do with their baby daddy. And at the time of this story, she was living on the 600 block of East Cornwell Street in Kensington.

Now, she's from there. So she has a cousin that lives close by. Her cousin's name is Taisha. Now, I tried to look up information about Taisha and I found her Facebook page. And her relationship status said that it was complicated. I do know that she had three children. She said that she was a full-time digital creator. But really, it kind of gave scammer vibes, like...

This is how you have to invest your money. You think that you want to be big and have generational wealth, Black people? Grand risings and get your cryptocurrency. And Tashia, while she was doing that in real life, I guess, at least according to LinkedIn, she was a home care provider at 365 Health Services. Now, Zakiya had beef with this girl around the way and her name was Jamika. Now, hear me out.

Jamaica got a baby daddy. Taisha got a baby daddy. And somebody's baby daddy was messing around. Jamaica Clark Porter was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to her dad, Jimmy Turner, and her mom, Karen Clark. Her parents ended up splitting up, and she also gained another mom, a stepmom, Natalie Lisa Porter.

We don't have much about her home life, but we do know that she graduated from Merle Randolph Dobbins School in 1996 and worked as a CNA. She also attended cosmetology school. Don't know where she left off on that. Jamika went on to have six kids. God bless her. Now, Jontae Jefferson, I believe that's her oldest son.

She had her by a different one, but the rest of her kids share a father with her spouse, boyfriend, not really sure, Sean Porter Sr. Now, these kids were Mahogany Porter, Sean Porter Jr., Cordair Porter, Sharonda Porter, and Sienna Porter. Her Facebook bio stated,

God has blessed me in so many ways. I have overcome so many trials and tribulations. I always remain the same. My children have and remain my number one priority. The man above has brought me a long way and putting your trust in him. Anything's possible.

Jante, she was born on January 31st, 1995-ish. She ended up graduating high school in 2012. Next, Jamika had Cordair Porter. This is her first child by Sean. Cordair was Sean's first child and was born on March 15th of 1996, and they went to Mastery Charter Picket Campus. Next, she had Mahogany, who was born on February 4th of 1998.

Mahogany went by Nini and was a first grader at Willard Elementary and loved to watch Spongebob. Sean Jr. was born on June 11th, 1999. Real fast after. They called Sean Mookie and he was a kindergartner at Willard Elementary. Loved music. Then they had Sharonda.

who was born on March 28th of 2001, again, right after. They called Sharonda Kimmy. Don't ask me where it came from. She was a preschooler at Somerset Elementary School and loved to play with dolls and talk on the phone. Sometime around 2004, 2005, she had Sienna.

Now, Zakiya also knew this dude named Mahim. Now, Mahim Jamar Foster Starks was born on June 28th, 1982. And he has a little bit of criminal history. Like in June of 1999, he was arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy, you know, slight work, aggravated assault, nothing crazy.

from an incident that happened a month before, and he was sentenced to the max of five years. Now, Mahim was really actually feeling Jamaica, and Jamaica going through all this shit, her baby daddy just moved out the house. Mahim was like, yo, give me a chance, boo. But she's not having that.

And he didn't like the fact that her ass kept turning him down. Because at this point, like, what you got to lose? I'm trying to fuck with you, girl. Zakiya and Mahim knew each other. So one day, they're sitting at the bar. May 13, 2005. They sitting at the bar, and Zakiya and Mahim are drinking. And Zakiya's like, she trying to fuck with my baby dad. And he's like...

Shit, she trying to fuck with your baby dad. She need to fuck with me. And I've been trying to fuck with her. And she's like, man, I can't stand that bitch. He said, I can't stand that hoe either. And so both of them taking shots. Smell of herself, ain't she? Right. Both of them taking shots. And they like, yeah, fuck that bitch. Fuck that bitch too. Keep turning me down. And she's like, yeah, keep fucking with my baby dad. She don't need no more baby dads.

And so they sit down and they're like, you know what we should do? And they're like, what? He's like, you know what we should do? We should kill her. And I bet all her problems will go away. That's a real bitch move to be sitting down over beers, talking shit about a girl because she don't want you. And then the conversation then leading to we should get her. For you to want to take any retaliation against a girl who don't want you is a little sick. Get checked out. And, you know, I really have very low respect for men.

especially men that claim that they are heterosexual sitting around gossiping with other women about a woman like i just feel like there's something wrong there just saying like tazzy said is giving bitch and they're both like we should set her house on fire and they're both like this is a great idea we should set her house on fire no no no for real let's go do it

So they come up with the master plan. They go their separate ways from the bar and they're like, all right, we're going to meet later on tonight. And we're going to meet at the gas station and we're going to set her house on fire. Zakiya's like, bet. I'm going to call my cousin Tyshea and she's going to be the lookout. She calls up Tyshea. Ring, ring, ring. Ring, ring, ring. Tyshea says, hey, girl, what's going on? She said, girl, I'm about to go blow this bitch house up. I need you to be the lookout. And Tyshea said, OK.

Okay, girl, you rockin', I'm rollin'. And then a little after midnight, at a local gas station, here comes the peanut crew. Zakiya buys two bottles of Mystic juice and about $5 worth of gas. She poured out the juice and filled up the bottle with gas, and she's basically making, like, a little mini bomb, a little mom cocktail, you know what I'm saying? And so from the gas station, they walk to Jamaica's house. Now, it's a quiet stroll because, you know, don't be suspicious, okay?

They stroll through town. They find a T-shirt on the side of the road. They rip up the T-shirt. Perfect. This is exactly what we needed for our bottles of gasoline. This is exactly what we need to make sure that we can set that bitch off. They go to her house, located on the 1800 block of Clementine Street in Kensington. Remember, we're in Pennsylvania. And then Tashia, she looks left, looks right, looks up, looks down, and realizes the coast is clear and it's time to move. So Zakiya and Mahim...

They take their bottles, light the t-shirt that's leading into the gasoline, and throws the bottles inside of this girl's house. Now Mahim's bottle broke a window and landed inside the house. And Zakiya, she got a little weak arm on her, so her bottle didn't make it inside the house, but it landed near the house. I wonder if her bottle must have still caught on fire.

Now, Mahim's bottle, when it made it into the house, it landed on near around the couch that was on the first floor of the house. And that's where the fire started. I also want to remind you that it's late at night at this time. Like 3 a.m. Yeah, like 3 o'clock in the morning. They met after midnight. The fire started and it moved quickly, you know, like fast.

A fire generally moves quickly. It's either in and out or it takes its time and slow creeps. All her kids are asleep. Everybody in the house is asleep. And that couch is burning. Now here's the thing. There were two smoke alarms in the house. They did not have batteries in them. Please, y'all, put batteries in your smoke alarms and your carbon monoxide detectors. Just go check them. Go check them right now. Make sure that they are working. If they are beeping, go buy you some batteries.

I'm talking to you. Now, it didn't take long for the flames to reach upstairs. And when Jamika realizes that the house is on fire and that everything is happening and she doesn't understand, she starts screaming out of the window, screaming for somebody help. She's like, please, somebody help. Call 911. My kids, my kids are in here.

there's neighbors that start running out trying to help her. And so they throw little C and a little CC. Her mom threw her out the window into a neighbor's arms. And Jameika is just trying to find the rest of her kids, see if there's anybody else that she can save. And finally, at the last minute, like she's starting to get burned. She realizes...

She can't save them and she's got to save herself and she jumps out of the window. Can you imagine that feeling of like, to my left is a fire that's eating up my whole house with the rest of my kids back there. And to the right, I can throw my baby out the second floor window. I know she down there like, you better catch my motherfucking baby.

Right. You better catch my damn baby. We're going to say her injuries later, but like she was burned on the butt. Like they say that she waited to the very last minute. Like the fire literally pushed her out and was like, you either jumping out this window or you're going to die. And when she was out there waiting for first responders to come, they said that she was completely inconsolable. She had children in that home that she cannot find.

Now, when the police come, they were able to save two of her children, Cordier and Jonte, and they were injured with pretty bad burns. However, three of her children, Mahogany, Sean, and Sharonda could not be saved. Now, when the firefighters in EMS arrived, they put the fire out pretty quickly. But still, three of her children, of course, did die in a fire from burn smoke inhalation and soot inhalation.

When Jameika was out, she had burns on her arms, back, and butt, and her and her two kids were taken to Temple University. Jante and Cordaire suffered burns all over their bodies, including parts of their face. I've heard from unofficial sources that 95% of their bodies suffer burns.

That is a crazy amount. They were in there and they had to just wait to be saved. Right. So I can believe it. And that's a hard... And even trying to survive that, like the pressure it puts on your lungs and fighting the infections and the skin peeling and regrowing. And burns don't really heal. And they're young and they're going to be trying to grow and their skin's going to be trying to stretch. It's going to be constant pain for the rest of their lives.

You know what some people were saying, again, on this unofficial thread? They were saying that parts of them were burned so badly that they weren't even in pain. Like, nerve endings burnt to where they're not even feeling anything anymore. Wow, that's crazy. You don't even feel it. Investigators looked through and saw that the fire did spread quickly throughout the home. On May 17th, Zakiya is arrested and she is charged with three counts of murder.

Four counts each of attempted murder, aggravated assault. She's charged with arson and charged with recklessly endangering another person and risking a catastrophe for allegedly setting a fire. And risking a catastrophe is exactly what the fuck she did. You don't know how fires are going to go. They got a mind of their own. That shit could have took up the whole block. They are wild. You know what I'm saying? You could have killed everyone. You really could have.

When speaking to investigators, she brought up Maheem's name. Now, Maheem's name, when I look real fast, is given Mayhem, and also this whole scenario is given Mayhem, so that's what I'ma go with. She was telling the police her story, and she was like, "Yeah, Mayhem, we was talking, we came up with this plan, and yada, yada, yada." Police was like, "Mayhem, let's go get him." On June 18th, Mayhem is arrested and charged with three counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. On June 28th, Zakiya's having her preliminary hearing.

She's in front of the judge, they about to plead their case, and somebody comes in and they say, "Wait! Stop! We have just arrested Mayhem, and we want to try these two together because it seems like they together went about this vicious act." And the judge says, "All right, we gonna pause. Build your case and come back together." So they take her back to jail. Water State worked on officially linking their cases. Now when talking in the news, Mayhem's judge, Mr. Douglas Dolphman,

said it's crazy that Zakiya would even throw Mayhem's name in the mix like that. And the state gonna have a real hard time trying to pull this case together because Mayhem has an alibi.

He wasn't even there. And he wants to know why she would set him up like that. While investigating the homicide, Captain Richard Ross said, quote, it's not just a man thing. This was over something stupid. People could have walked away, which I wish he would elaborate because if it ain't just a man thing or if it isn't even a man thing at all, what is it? It's given. I truly do not like you. It's given hate. Y'all just acting ugly for no reason.

So Mayhem, we just really renamed this man. Mayhem and Zakiya, they were held without bail. Tashia, she already had a bench worn out for her arrest because she failed to show up for a hearing and she was sent to jail. Now, Tashia said, listen, I ain't throw no alcohol bottles. I was just a lookout. Give me a plea and I'll tell you everything you need to know. Sorry, I didn't mean it.

They said, if you're willing to testify against them, we'll give you immunity in this case. She said, I sure will. I sure will. And away we go. One of the really sad things is Jamika, she and her kids that did survive, they were in a burn unit this entire time. They were kind of cut off from everything. They were working on surviving. So...

She didn't even know how many of her children survived, if her baby that she threw out the window survived. She didn't know anything that was going on, but her family did. And two days before the funeral of her children, she found out that her children died. I'm glad her family was able to just like. It's giving like, ain't nobody want to tell her. Yeah. Like, how do you break the news to her? But you got to, you got to tell me. And they just put it off. I got a cousin. His daddy died.

Five years ago. And he didn't find out until he got out of jail because they was like, we don't want to set him in there. Life and death is a part of life. You know what I'm saying? And you don't expect this type of death. But she also knew that she was only able to save herself and one child personally from a fire. I think you should tell people and have a grief counselor there. Maybe she was in a coma because I can't imagine her being awake and not asking how her kids are doing.

Yeah, I could see them putting her in an induced coma. We don't have any details, but that happens a lot. Yeah, so they don't have to deal with the pain. Exactly, yeah. Might be what actually happened. The three Porter children, Mahogany, Sean, and Sharonda, their funeral was held on May 24th, 2005. Each of them had white caskets engraved with their name in gold.

The funeral was done by John E. Williams Jr., and he was a church elder of Way of the Cross Church. At the service, he said, quote, this occasion makes me think about how we treat our young people. I think every man here has to go home and be a better father, and every woman here should go home and be a better mother. Love on your children. You know what I'm saying? Their preschool teacher, Miss Toni Waddington, said that the girls were just a gift and

And of course, it means a lot of kids. Of course, they was in preschool. She said, quote, when they came to us, they were little. They were just three, four and five years old. And they were just so precious. There's no other way to say it. She said, and their parents, they were just absolutely wonderful to them. She said the girls were well taken care of. Her mom and her dad loved them. And the preschool was just really sad that this had to happen. It's so sad. Jamika, along with two out of three of her surviving children, Jontae and Cordier, were not able to attend the funeral because they were still in the hospital.

Oh, imagine little Cece. She's young, but you at the funeral and your family is there, right? But your mom's not there. Your siblings that are alive aren't there. It's just you standing next to your daddy crying. You know, you're used to a full house. You're used to a lot of people and you're just not with them right now. Right. And the saddest moment of your life.

After the funeral, the three were laid to rest and they all share a headstone. Meanwhile, back at the courts, it was time for them to get ready to... Picture this.

You're sitting at home, you're minding your business, you're watching your shows, and your little one walks in and says, "Hey mom, here's a permission slip for a field trip that's happening tomorrow." On May of 2007, they began trial in front of Judge Thomas F. Garrett. Zakiya's defense attorney was Tariq Kareem El-Shabazz, and Mayhem's attorney was Douglas Dolphman. The ADA on the case was Carlos Vega. I feel like we've seen that name before, or maybe I just read this script earlier.

Of course, they were tried together. Tashia's testimony was used as really the only piece of evidence to present to the court. This is like a time before ring cameras. They didn't necessarily go in the house, so it's not like there's fingerprints or whatever through the house. And they probably skirted off right after it happened, so like not a lot of witnesses and people are more so focused on a fire. And it's 3 a.m., so who's looking, right? So really, that's all they had to build this case.

On the stand, she testified that she was the lookout for Mayhem and Zakiya. She said Zakiya was holding one bottle and Mayhem was holding the other. And then Mayhem had lit both of them, and then he threw the first bottle, and then Zakiya had thrown another one at the house. And then it got up so fast that Tashia says that Zakiya's coat caught fire.

as she was trying to run away from the house. I'm wondering what the accelerant was. Because why is it moving so fast? Did she have a gas stove and leave it clicking or something? It could have been anything. If there's a flammable substance, like nail polish remover at the house. Yeah, but it's just like not... She got all them girls. What if the night before she was painting nails with all the girls and...

Boom. Yeah, but even still, like, it don't take over the whole house. Fire is unpredictable, bro, like we said. That's what I'm saying, but it's gotta be like some other... I was watching this episode of Chicago Fire, and they were doing an investigation because these things, these factories kept catching on fire.

And it turned out that this company was trying to save money by making cheap couches, that they made these couches with highly flammable materials. And so people would just, like, have their candle next to the couch, and it was starting fires or whatever. It had started three fires in the area, and they were, like, confronting the company, like, you need better practices. You're putting people's house and their lives at risk with your cheap-ass couches. And it just keeps making me think about that because...

they keep saying it started at the couch and i'm like was that couch so cheaply and poorly made that it just and took the whole down it could have now she also gets on the stand and testifies that zakiya asked her to lie in court to protect it she said quote she just told me to say she didn't throw anything just say mayhem did it oh we i know she's sitting there like girl what the but you did it you did it girl the jury went to deliberations

They had the easy choice here to choose guilty. And they came back with the guilty verdict.

And after she was convicted, she waived her direct appeal and her right to appeal the conviction in exchange for the state's promise not to seek the death penalty in sentencing. And I don't know if this is like a certain type of appeal. Like, you know how you have the appeal that you're allowed right after the case closes? So maybe she just waived her right to that appeal. So then on May 24th of 2007, this is now like...

two years after it's happened. She's sentenced to three consecutive terms for life for each murder charge and five to 10 years each for aggravated assault, arson, and criminal conspiracy.

I guess the only solace that I can find in this sentence is it's two years and your charges have not trumped up, which means the other two must have made it past all the burning that they suffered. Now that everything's happened, Mayhem is like, listen, I need to appeal. He had a nice little piece of evidence. Now, remember, they got sentenced back in 2007, but he got a letter from Tashia that was dated June 27th, 2013. And in this letter, he

He said, this is what I needed so that I can get out of prison. This letter from Tashia says, quote, listen, Ma, I don't know how to explain this. You getting all that time for something you didn't do got me feeling guilty. Mar, listen, you got to understand. At the time I was pregnant and the way the cops were talking, they made it seem like I was the one who did it. So I wasn't thinking straight at the time. I tried to tell the cops the truth, but they didn't want to hear that. They wanted to hear that you and Zah did the shit.

Not me being pregnant and stressed out. I just started saying whatever they wanted to hear because I wanted to go home. Now, Zah did what she did because she wanted to. Now, I don't know how you feeling because of all these years that passed, but I'm willing to help you do whatever I got to do. And Mayhem is like, all right, judge, ladies and gentlemen of the appeals board, exhibit A. They looked at that piece of paper. They look back up at him. They said, boy, you tried it.

Now, in 2008, Zakiya put in a petition and this petition was for her to fire her lawyer and for her to represent herself. And they were like, fine, do what you got to do. But, you know, you got to go to court for that. They try to go pick her up at the court. Mama's is outside on the yard working out. Either they didn't pick her up for court or she refused to show up to court or.

But either way, that petition was formally dismissed. Now, she filed a new petition in 2020. And in this petition, she requested new DNA testing. She requested a new lawyer. And she claimed that she had newly discovered facts. Zakiya also says that the state of Pennsylvania knew that Tasha was lying. They knew she was lying. And the fact that she even wrote this letter...

to mayhem saying that she was lying. She's admitted that she lied on the stand, everybody. Can we all get an appeal? And the court was like, eh.

Nah, we're gonna let the witness stand. Zakiya's being held at the Cambridge Springs Correctional Facility. They had this little survey that they were passing around. They said to all the female and trans inmates in Pennsylvania, or maybe in the county, because they said there was only 99 of them. I don't, that sounds really low. But only 50 responded. And Zakiya was one of them. And she had to say this about the

She said, quote, Which, this is literally your life here. And in the name of reformation and coronation,

correctional facility, even if this is where they're supposed to be housed and live off the rest of their days, I think they should still be doing work towards building themselves as a person. And if you give them nothing to thrive for, then where does the reformation really come into part? Exactly. Because part of learning your lesson is not just sitting in timeout. Right.

Learning your lesson is accepting the punishment, realizing what you've done and work towards having better behavior. And it's just like you're not really giving them anything to strive for. You don't really care what the outcome is here for these people, even if it is in jail.

You know, there's people in jail creating programs and having their clubs and making the best of the life that they can in there. That's what it should be. It's not just people staring at walls all day getting dumber and dumber, having their brain cells rot or suffering from depression or whatever. Like, that's not the punishment. It's not for us to create a hell for people. Now, we can remove them from the society that we live in because they're a danger to others, but

The unsafe conditions, the nothing to live for, nothing to work for, can't afford nothing. Because even these jobless niggas is getting toilet paper. They don't give you enough toilet paper to last you. They don't give you enough pads, shampoo, none of that to last you. You need money. You got to work for it.

And now you're not getting jobs. You're already getting paid, what, a nickel, 10 cents, 15 cents a day, hour, whatever. What's that really going to do for you? What is that really going to do to make you feel like you're actively being a part of society? And like you said, it's punishment, but punishment doesn't mean enslavement.

I guess in America it does, but. Mayhem is currently at the Albion Correctional Facility. Now, he also tried to appeal in 2020 and the result was one sentence. Quote, and now this fourth day of August 2020, the petition for allowance of appeal denied. And that's all they had to say about that.

Jamaica and her surviving children all still live in Philadelphia. Jamaica is now a grandmother, and she posts about her children, often wishing all three of them happy birthdays every year. Cordair graduated from high school in June of 2019, and Jante is now a mom to three kids, two girls, and a boy. I love that. All right, y'all. Lord have mercy. It's time for... Well, I'm not black. I'm O.J.,

I ain't do it. But if I did, this is how I would have got away with it. I ain't do it. But if I did, usually the ideas that I come up with that I'm when I'm drunk, especially if they're ideas of violence when I'm drunk are not good ideas. And I feel like you should just like not listen to drunk you ever. I don't know. I don't get drunk too often. But when I do, I'm feeling great.

I'm feeling good. Violence is not on my mind. That's you, but there are plenty of people that... That's what I'm saying. I'm speaking for me, personally. For me, that ain't me. I'm a happy drunk. Yeah, but a lot of people are not. I just want to be loved. You just want to be loved. I get that. I ain't do it, but if I did...

You should have caught that girl on the street and just jumped her. You ain't have to put her babies at risk like that. Like if you want to fight, then fight. That's what I was going to say. I ain't do it. But if I did, ain't no way I'm starting a fire with six kids in there. And it's like, you know her enough to know she have kids. Where the fuck you think her kids is at? Where the fuck are your kids at? Like, why would you even put them through that? Even if you didn't expect it to be big or whatever, like. Fuck up her car. Slash them tires. Shit. Like you don't set the house down.

That's crazy to me. I ain't do it. But if I did, if I'd have seen that fire getting out of control like that, I probably would have been like the one to call 911 or something like get there fast. It's a going. I know it's really nothing you can do after it gets out of control, though. Like you really can't stop that shit. No, you really can't. But like it was a time of the essence, even if I was a set fire person.

I don't like to destroy things that I can't afford or that I don't want to pay for. I don't even want to get your phone fixed. I ain't gonna fuck up your phone. But somebody's house, their dwelling. Yeah. You can't make up for the fact that her babies are gone. Nah, that's bad. I can do it. But if I did, you should have known that your cousin was going to fold like that, girl. You should have known your cousin was going to fold like that. I don't even know why you called to look out. It's like she didn't expect any consequences.

She just thought it was gonna be alright It was just a little fire We just gonna take it to the grave Remember back in the day in the old movies I don't know if they ever did this but They used to put like dog shit in a bag And put it on your front lawn Fucking Billy Madison Come on now

This says, Mariah, capital R in Taz. Y'all have become a regular part of my life. I look forward to every single Friday just to hear y'all tell somebody's life story. My mama even listens with me. The side chat, sound effects, and relatability are what keeps me coming back every week. The perfect duo with the perfect personalities. I only gave five stars because that's all it lets me give but all the stars. Thanks so much, Mariah. You got one, Tazzy?

This one says, something different. These funny women bring a whole different perspective to the true crime world. Telling your stories of black women who killed in a very honest, entertaining, but empathetic way. As a very pasty white woman, I enjoy seeing the world through a different lens and hearing about the multitude of possible motives and motivations for the crime they narrate, which are more varied than you normally see in yet another serial killer documentary.

That's what I'm going for. Not the same old thing. I know that's right. All right. We have some really cool things coming up. Taz, you want to let the people know where we're headed? Going on tour. We are going to New York on September 21st. Find us in Brooklyn at Crown Hill Theater.
