Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and Thrasher, and Alex Miller discuss the so-called death of physical media.
Having gotten hooked on home video since the VHS days, our hosts take viewers on a history of the format while debating what we are losing as so many more titles become only available on streaming services. Audio commentaries, documentaries, and blooper reels are rarely seen on streaming services, and many are pulled altogether.
Everything old is new again, so perhaps DVDs will have a retro renaissance not unlike vinyl has in the music world. A person can dream. Is convenience to watch more than is possible in your lifetime at your fingertips worth the loss of film education, clever animated menus, and having a physical shelves of a home video library to show off to disinterested friends? Only the future can answer that!
