Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Jersey Jason, and William Thrasher discuss The Hobbit, a Rankin Bass made for TV animated movie from 1977. Featuring original songs from Glenn Yarbrough, this tells the tale of Bilbo Baggins (Orson Bean) being hired by Gandalf (John Huston) to take a gaggle of dwarves on a quest to reclaim their treasure guarded by the dragon Smaug.

A brisk adaptation of the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, this cartoon features striking character designs, memorable songs, and a strong voice cast. It also rushes things along towards the end making the Battle of the Five Armies little more than dots wiggling on the battlefield. 

Fun fact: this episode features the debut of the first Sequelcast theme song.
