Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, BJ, and special guest Rudie Obias (freelancer writer for Mental Floss) discuss Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones. A whiny teenager massacres a village while professing his love to an older woman.
The lowest grossing of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones takes place a handful of years after Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace. Anakin is now a petulant teenager fawning over Queen Amidala. Obi-Wan Kenobi has a beard and more sass than before. Part murder mystery, part love story, and part political quagmire, Attack of the Clones has too much story going on and kind of drags for much of its running time. However, not all is lost. Writer and director George Lucas seems giddy here exploring a cacophony of settings and ideas; if nothing else, the whole enterprise feels less leaden than The Phantom Menace. Christopher Lee as Count Dooku makes a nice pairing with senior baddie Ian McDiarmid as Senator Palpatine. Both actors can bluster their way through even the most banal dialogue.
