A return to the complicated plotting of the original, Proxy War ratchets up the wealth and sloppiness of the rival yakuza families. Characters and plot twists assault the viewer with the series' typical ferocity. A solid effort, Proxy War feels more like a direct sequel to the first flick than the more intimate Hiroshima Death Match.
