After Clerks became an indie darling, hopes were running high for Kevin Smith's sophomore effort. Sporting a budget that dwarfed the original, Mallrats gets a bit too busy with the plot. Jason Lee is especially memorable as Brodie and Ben Affleck starts his long association with Kevin Smith as the villainous Shannon Hamilton. A middle of the road comedy, Mallrats is fine but not the game changer Clerks was.
