What's going on, besties? I hope that everyone is having a wonderful week. I am sitting at a picnic table outside of a house in Montauk where I got stuck while the hurricane hit Charleston. Craig seems to be at his house.

in Charleston and we'll get a nice little update there and Nick is wherever Nick resides in his life anyways what's going on everyone I'm joining you from my cell phone because I did not expect to be out here this long but I'm excited to catch up with everyone yeah Austin's

Montauk resident or resident of Montauk now or the Hamptons. Have you got, have you been to other places or you're just really in Montauk? I mean, I think that every time that I come out here, I'm more and more kind of blown away with how just large and like how far that one end of the Hamptons is from the other. So we've basically been in like a Montauk bubble. It's an hour, 50 minutes.

Yeah. And it's like, it's a cute town. And it like shocks me that when like we pass by something and then we get back to like our house, I'm like, wait a minute. That bar was, or like that restaurant or that, this was that close to our house this whole time. And it's like, yeah, man, Montauk's really small. So yeah, I'm finding out just how small that it is, but it's been, it's been kind of nice since, uh,

Since I've been here during the week, just like been going to gurneys, Craig, I don't know if you've been to gurneys before, but I've been going to gurneys and doing, you know, gym, gym,

and sauna and cold plunge then back in the sauna and cold plunge and i've never wanted to be like extremely wealthy more in my life because i would love to just i thought in my basement i thought gurney's was a bar so i have not been to some health club in montauk okay no no it's like not a health club but but it's uh it it's a hotel that just has like an awesome like like five-star spa

Oh, that's how I know the name. It's the hotel out there. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's on the beach. And yeah, I've never wanted to be like, you know, uber wealthy or more in my life so that I can build this like whole kind of facility that they use because it's awesome to just go boom, boom, boom, boom. Yeah, it's great.

Do you find that doing cold plunge and the steam gives you an excuse not to work out? Like you're like, Oh, I don't have to work out. Cause I did the cold plunge. I think that, uh, I was talking to Carl about this, Craig, you know, Carl from, um, who owns CD fit. And Carl was like,

which is the gym that Craig and I go to. And Carl was like, if I'm in a pinch, I would rather sit in the infrared than get in like a workout, right? You know, if I only have like 30 minutes, it's like, do you get like a quick pinch in or do you sit in the sauna? I have used it as an excuse. Yes.

But yeah, I was thinking that I don't know what I saw the other day or maybe maybe it was your story or you texted us and you're like, don't worry, I'm keeping my root a good routine. And you're like, I'm cold plunging. And I was like, oh, I wonder if like if that's. Yeah. Anyway, I was curious of that. If people would be like, no, I'm not going to work out. I'm just going to cold plunge today. Yeah. I posted it to my story yesterday, but I did gym training.

And then sauna and then cold plunge. But yes, I have just done the sauna and the cold plunge before. Because I mean, you know, it's better than nothing. And I really want one at my house now because on certain days I'm like, we can't make it to the gym. And I'm like, I would love to just walk downstairs to my garage.

and jump in the sauna. This looks like a heavily considering a European, like this looks like the, like a European spa that you would get on, like a nice, like a nice hotel. Like the place looks really nice. Yeah. Yeah. I was talking to one of the housemates here and she was like, Oh my gosh, well,

I was telling her about it, right? And she was like, okay, well, like, I really want to go. You know, once I drop off, you know, my daughter for camp. And then I really want to go and just do like a mommy day. And then she talked about how it's like this sister spa to some really, really nice and fancy place in Manhattan. And people listening are probably like, yeah, it's blah, blah, blah. But I don't remember what it was. But yeah, it's really nice. That's cool. But when did you, when were you supposed to come back? I was going to come back on Monday.

Monday evening because I was supposed to have the magazine party for Southern Living on Tuesday night, but that got canceled because of the hurricane or the tropical storm. Yeah, but like was your travel canceled or you just decided to stay? Travel was canceled on Monday and then

They pushed. So flight was at 3 p.m. on Monday. Then they pushed that flight to 3 p.m. on Tuesday. And honestly, I was waiting for that to get canceled and it didn't. So then I voluntarily moved it because I was like, well, what's the point to get back to Charleston if I'm just going to have to shelter in place kind of thing? Well, the bridges are closed. We're still on curfew. Yeah.

It would have been a... I thought that I read something saying that as of 7.30 this morning, the other curfew's been lifted. I don't know, but Jack just had to drive on 5.26 to get to my house, so... Wow.

Yeah. So it was almost like, what am I going to rush back for? And then I have to go to the grocery store. And I saw people who were posting videos in the grocery store and the lines were just like, you know, astronomically long. And I was like, well, why am I going to come back and fight that if I have a house out here to stay?

See, I, okay. I thrive during storms. Like this is, I was made for, like I went to the grocery store and had an exact opposite experience, but I must've waited until it was really deep inside of the storm. Like I went where no one was there, the shelves were empty and like the only people on the roads were people with like big enough cars. And I,

I had my knife on me. I had my flashlight. I had my boots on. And just in case like I had to help someone like on the side of the road or if my car broke down, like I was at total peace where I was like, I'm just ready to go in this moment. And like at my house, I had enough water for a couple of days. I had, you know, dry food and stuff, different sources of heat, water, lights, weapons. And I was just like,

I was ready. Just, I don't know. Like I find calm in the crisis, like being in the grocery store made me so happy. I don't know why, but I was just like, because it's so quiet. Like when the storm isn't hitting, like the calm before the storm is real. Like it's very, there's no place to be except like hunker down. And then I,

I get in my house and the storm comes. And for us, at least in Mount Pleasant, it was just heavy, heavy, heavy rain, but enough rain that it saturates like trees so that they're like falling and transfer boxes were exploding and stuff. But I kept power. And the next day, whatever the daytime was where like you couldn't leave your house because of how much water was out there.

Because I had power, it is the most peaceful day that I personally remember over the last year because I had everything I needed in my house. You couldn't leave if you wanted to, and everything was closed here and shut down. So it was a true, like, just day to, like—

It was like summer camp in your house. You're like, you have nowhere to be. And so I was able to do like a full home edit and like, you know, organize stuff and watch a show. And it was just super nice. It was not. But we're going to take a quick break and we'll be right back. We all dread the what should we have for dinner question. I know I do. And all to inevitably order takeout.

It's just the easier option in my household, but it's never really satisfying, and I always end up spending too much money on fast food each week. I would like to talk to you about one of our sponsors, Timeline Nutrition, and one product in particular, MitoPure. MitoPure is one of the first products to offer a precise dose of urolithin A to help upgrade your mitochondrial function, help increase cellular energy, and help improve muscle strength and endurance. I've started taking it recently and have started to tell that there is definitely this one I work out or am active. But MitoPure does more than just help with my muscle health.

it can help with health stand as well. I want to be one of those granddads one day that you see in the video of him swinging his grandkid around. I want to rely on myself for as long as I possibly can. One way to think of MitoPure is that they are in your cells, chomping up the damaged mitochondria that makes you feel old and tired and helping to recycle it into new healthy ones.

Mitochondria, our cell's power generators, are one of the key influences in how we age. However, as the years pass, mitochondrial efficiency naturally declines, representing a large gap in the quality of life we expect in our later years and the one we experience.

Taking two soft gels a day for two months and you could see significant improvements in your cellular energy, muscle strength, and endurance. After four months of taking Mito Pure, you might feel yourself getting stronger, recovering faster after a workout, and experiencing less inflammation, all part of your healthier aging routine, which is honestly amazing.

I'm Craig Conover, joined by Austin Kroll, who's joining us by satellite out in Montauk and Nick Norris.

So once again, with a PSA to I respect everyone's home that was damaged or anywhere else. And I have to say that I kind of agree with you, Craig. I had a friend in Charleston who texted me and was like, this storm sucks. And I was like, what do you mean it sucks? And I knew what he was saying. He was like, I don't know, man. I was expecting it to be way more than this.

And I know that we should never like, you know, 100% be careful what you wish for because it's all fun and games until it's fucking not right until you're like, oh my God, my roof is being like ripped off my house. Like, holy shit.

Like, the storm that Charleston was always, like, anticipated to get was just, like, a lot of rain. A lot of rain. It wasn't, you know, the wind aspect, although we did get some, you know, tornadoes and stuff. Well, that... I hear you, Craig, where it is and can be fun to be like, oh, my gosh, like, because when that happens, you're not, like, expected to do anything. You're just expected to, like, chill at your house and, like, wait out. Well, it's like a snow day. Yeah. Yeah. But here's what happened to me. So...

around like 10 o'clock realized because the people that built my pool, God bless them, but there's no fricking drain on it. So I was like, all right, like hopefully the drains around my yard and pool hold up because this pool is filling up quickly. So I have fairy lights in my backyard and they weren't on. So I was like, all right, Craig, go turn your lights on, you know, like, so you can see your backyard without using your flashlight.

I had not heard like maybe some rumbling thumb thunder in the background. I walked outside and a house like,

10 houses down from me, got struck by lightning in the 30 seconds that it took me to walk from my garage door to my light box. Dude, it's scared. I thought I had gotten hit by lightning. It scared the living shit out of me. Like everything goes white and that's how close I was to it. And my heart felt like

Like I, I was properly scared again by mother nature. So I turned the lights on, I went inside and I was like, did I just fuck up by like going out in this storm? And it like took me a while to get my nerves down. And that's when I started to take it serious where I was like, you dumb motherfucker. Things can switch on like that. And that's when all of a sudden the wind did start to come and around 1230, uh,

I opened up Twitter because I had lost all my money in the stock crash, basically. My portfolio that I just play around with was just wiped out for the time being. And so I'm checking. And all of a sudden- I don't mean to laugh. I don't mean to laugh. No, I mean, it was- Because, man, everyone who's playing in the stock market got hit and it sucked. Yeah. It sucked. Yeah.

And all of a sudden, I remembered Twitter actually is a great place for breaking news and weather updates. So I...

saw that we were getting tornadoes and I saw Kiowa had gotten hit and then the Arby's and West Ashley got destroyed. And I was like, okay, twisters aren't anything to mess around with. And we had a tornado warning for Mount Pleasant and it was like, seek shelter now. So that's when I started to text you and I was about to head up to bed, but I was like, you know what?

I should stay awake if there's a possibility of a tornado coming. And it's funny because I was like, okay, cool. This is an excuse to stay up because it was like two in the morning. But I was like, you actually do need to stay awake. Like it was just me in the house. And at this point I had, you know, I had some...

personal protective items around me, some security stuff. Cause I was like, I don't know if someone's going to like break in if they need something like you never know what's going to happen in a storm. Yeah. Like, like men, nunchucks and ninja stars. I had my ninja sword and my nunchucks. Exactly. Yeah, of course. And so at this point it's pitch black, there's tornadoes and I'm like, okay, I'm going to go upstairs and I go upstairs to my room and I hear the

The loudest fucking noise. Basically, a giant tree limb fell on my roof. That is my, like, irrational fear, Craig. My irrational fear, which might not be so, like, irrational, is that a tree limb will come crashing through my roof and just cause, like, irreparable damage that just, like, fucks up your whole world. That is, like, a serious fear of mine. Fortunately, I was, like, because I've always wondered, like, why...

go like, well, I react or hide. Fortunately, I grabbed my nunchucks, which I just put away and just ran down the stairs and was like, who the fuck's there? Who the fuck's there? Like, get like, and because it sounded like someone had kicked like through my door. That's what the sound was. And so again, now my like nervous system is fucking shot. And I'm like, what the fuck was that noise? This doesn't make any sense. The doors, like I checked all my doors and finally, like I ran, uh,

and opened one of the windows with a flashlight and I saw that there was a giant tree branch like splattered all over my steps and my sidewalk and like hanging off my roof. And I was like, thank God. Because I was like, what was that fucking noise? So yeah, I had a tree branch. Front steps? Yeah. Front steps. So it hit my bedroom like roof.

And Paige is like, I fucking told you that tree is going to fall onto our bed and kill us. Right. No, no, man. Well, like it actually is good, even though that that oak tree in the backyard was big and beautiful. Like, like that tree is probably would have been the biggest, like, like if you didn't cut that tree down in your backyard, which everyone listening, man, Craig, Craig had this huge, huge, you know, oak tree, but, but, but, but like it died and it was like a risk to like,

fall on your damn roof and and craig got rid of it and and that's the kind of tree that would terrify you because listen to this when my family first moved to north carolina we were living in a townhome waiting for our house to be built out in province country club where where i was raised essentially and a tree branch fell on top of our family station wagon and

And it wasn't a tree branch. Like our car was sandwiched in half when like we woke up in the morning and we were just like, that is wild. Yeah. That's crazy. Our car got completely sandwiched.

Yeah. I mean, you have large trees by your old house. I remember it, but yeah. Yeah. Well, anyway, we, you know, we're thinking about everyone. We know how scary storms can be. We've both stayed too long when we were supposed to leave Charleston, but this wasn't one of those storms. And, uh, Nick Norris, who will probably get the storm that we've had tonight. Is that right? Nick?

Yeah, it's supposed to get here, start around 7, and then we're supposed to get 5 to 6 inches. It's going to be bad here. Is it supposed to go further up, Craig, to where you're from? Because I'm going to Delaware next week for the Fish Festival. Oh, nice. It'll be gone by then. Yeah, but the residual rain could be around, and it could be sloppy, sloppy campgrounds if that's...

Oh, it's going to be muddy, I would think, yes. I think you're going to have some mud to deal with. Oh, shit. Oh, shit, of course. Okay, well, look, the weather out here in Montauk, it's drizzling now. It's drizzling on me. I'm sitting underneath an umbrella out at the pool, and it is drizzling. So it just seems like the whole Northeast is just kind of gross right now.

Yeah, we're... It hasn't rained all summer, so I know it's going to freaking flood, but I live on top of a hill, so it's fine. The whole eastern coast is, like, pretty shitty. Well, I had my favorite Olympic moment last night where I was really...

It didn't end well for me and the people I was rooting for, but I was watching girls beach volleyball. We were playing Switzerland. Oh, we lost, didn't we? And we lost, but it was, it was so fun. There are not,

too many times where I can justify like get over a loss. Like I hate losing the other team played the best volleyball that I've ever, like, I don't know if it was possible for us to win. We would, we would do things that, I mean, the girls that lost one 110 straight matches in college, like they've been teammates since freshman year, something like that. But anyway, the Swiss played,

probably the best game of their entire lives. So anyway, I had a lot of fun watching the beach volleyball. I saw your boy won bronze on the pummel horse. Well, yeah. Wait, wait, wait. Did he just do it like again?

Well, he won the individual medal. Oh, okay. Look, I think he's like America's boy. He's America's nerd. Yeah, he's America's nerd. It's hilarious to me. And my friend, Steve...

Okay, so what did I watch? So yesterday, I watched America steal the gold medal in, what was it? The 1500. The 1500, which was awesome. I also went to, I went somewhere to watch the men's basketball game. So-

I'm like a big Olympic men's basketball team fan. I'm not the biggest fan of the NBA. Like you won't find me, you know, watching regular season games because, because I don't really care, but Olympic basketball is,

I love it's probably because we've won five consecutive gold medals and we're just like, I mean, we're just like that team. Like we are the truth in basketball. Our roster is so ridiculous. It makes me laugh. But when I was in New Zealand in 2012, we were like, I was 23. I was so far away from home that going to the bar to watch the men's basketball team play was like oddly comforting.

And just watching the Olympics in general. But the men's basketball games were so comforting that since then, I just make it a point to try to watch the men's basketball game. And we blew out Brazil by 35, and we did exactly what we were supposed to do. Comforting is the word. That's why I was rooting for another set in the volleyball, because they lost two in a row. But I was like, just win one more, and then I don't care what happens, so that I can watch a third game.

Yeah, man, they went down in two straight sets. And then when men's basketball was going on, Gabby Thomas won the gold in, what was that, the 200-meter? So the girl from St. Lucia won the 100-meter sprint a couple days ago. And her country's first ever gold medal, or first ever, yeah, first ever gold medal. And then Gabby Thomas won the 200-meter, and that was cool to see too. And I mean...

So we took gold and bronze and everyone was hype. Everyone was hype, man, watching that. Also, U.S. Women's. So I walk into this bar, you know, yesterday and U.S. Women's soccer. The bartender told me the game was at 12. She said the entire bar was packed.

And I was like, oh, shit. So for the semifinal game against Germany, and she was like, we were not expecting that at all. But this whole place was just packed to the brim. And it was like her behind the bar and a server. And that was all. And it made me laugh a little bit. And I was like, okay, so is like women's soccer is like the sport? Like, I wonder what's gotten the most eyeballs.

So far through the Olympics. Gymnastics has to be up there. I mean, they have to with the Simone Biles factor. I would assume gymnastics, maybe some of the swimming for sure. The staples. I mean, when you think of the Olympics, like swimming and gymnastics and track are what come to mind immediately. So that was pretty cool. Yeah, but it's cool that the...

I mean, we do have the most athletes over there, so it's not a shocker that we have the most medals, but we are tied now with China for golds. Love that. I'm not even sure what other events that are coming down the pipeline. 200-meter final is later today, I think. Men's? The 200 men's. They just did the heats for it.

Right. Earlier. So I think that's coming. Okay, man. Noah Lyles. Yeah, and then the young kid from the Young American. He's 20. I think he's from Florida. And he's another one that they think can challenge Lyles. All right, we got to take another quick break. This is my new workout song.

It's by W&W. I would like to talk to you about one of our sponsors, Timeline Nutrition, and one product in particular, MitoPure. Get started with Greenlight today and get your first month free at greenlight.com slash pod. Welcome back to Pillows and Beer. Okay, so this is an argument I've seen going around a lot. Would you rather have one gold medal or like five silver medals? One gold. One.

Being a world champion or Olympic champion is just something that is a small club. I mean, I know silver is a small club too, but you can be like, I was the best at one point. But there can be a small case or there's an argument that's going on in my head right now where it's like five silvers over two Olympics. Yeah.

Or over like three Olympics or just like one gold in the one Olympics that you go to. Cause, but I ultimately agree with Craig. Cause like winning that gold is just means that you are the best in the entire world at your event. Yeah. Do you want to be the Buffalo bills or do you want to be, you know, I mean, the bears, the 85 bears. I mean, if I was like in, you know, consecutive Olympics, um,

And winning five, five goals would be pretty, pretty rad. Right. Because then you just get to keep on going back. But yeah, man, the one goal probably takes the cake for me. I just, I don't know how you could argue otherwise. I just, I'm kind of glad they do scoring that way as well, that it's not a total event. It's a most goals event. That's how you win the Olympics.

I feel like I'm Jim, Jim fricking McCantory out on my, uh, I'm like, yeah, yeah. It's getting a little windy. I'm holding the umbrella here and I'm hanging off for dear life. Uh, just recording for pillows and be here. Oh, did you speaking of, did you see Jim Cantore get like nutting that kid?

I don't know if that was recent or if that's an old video. No, it's an old video. Oh, okay. It's like 10 years old in Charleston, right? Yeah, in Charleston. Yeah, that was when I was in school here. Yeah, yeah. I mean, dude, that was Craig and Corey, man, running around. Yeah, we were the ones videoing. Wait, wait.

Hold on, Craig. I have a funny story, actually. I have a really funny story and it's so fitting for right now. And let's just say that it was Corey for the sake of dear old Craig. So a girl came up to me and said that she went to college with... Sorry, guys. Just nature healing out here. Like a dump truck. So went to college with Craig and Corey.

And said that there was a hurricane party. And Corey said, do you want to take a hurricane shot? And the girl said yes. And then she took a shot and someone like threw like a glass of water in her face and was like, that's the hurricane shot. Yeah, it was a blue wave. That was at my old house.

Oh, really? I was like, that is amazing. Yeah, we'd say, so you would run this bit where you'd be like, you wouldn't really be paying attention to the girl and you'd be like,

Like I learned it when I was bartending at Catch 54 in Fenwick. I think my friend Tripp showed me and he's like, dude, you won't do a blue wave shot. And you're like, piss off. You know, I'll fucking do it. And they're like, just no way. Like, there's no way you'll do it. And like you kind of pull in the attention of like a girl's standing like nearby or a guy. And then you pour like a shot of blue curacao. So like, you know, it's blue. And.

And everyone's like, oh my God, oh my God. And you're like, I'll do it. I'll do it. And then you actually, as the bartender, like you have a cup of water that you're filling up because like you could bring, if like you were running the bit and your friend was bartending or whatever, you'd be like, there's no way that this fucking happened. But they'll fill you up a cup of water. And then you do this shot. And then when you bring your face down, you hit them in the face with the water and you go blue wave. It's great at like beach bars and like warm stuff. I think so.

I think it's hilarious. That's amazing that you met someone that, that, that we got like, yes. Yes. She told me, she was like, they, they, they got me with this either hurricane shot, which I'm, which now we know is called the blue wave. So I, I want people out there to do this at your next beach or hurricane party and send us video evidence of you doing the blue wave shot. But it made me laugh out loud. And I was like, man,

college what morons what morons we were um but okay i would be pissed if that cup was like full right and and like i'm in like a bar right but you just you know fill it up like a little bit and then you're like them in the face yeah you're not like ruining their night by like dumping a right right on them you're just like it's the shock factor where you're like and

Here's the kicker. You're like, I have to hear you say that you want a blue wave shot. Like, that's how I always was. And they're like, I want one. I'm like, I'm just telling you, like, you have to be sure that you want a blue wave shot. And they're like, we want a blue wave shot. Like, I'll do one. And you're like, okay. And then so when you splash them, you're like, hey, like you said you wanted a blue wave shot. What are we going to talk about on this next and last segment? Let's just do, I got a good question for us. Okay, go, go.

We are doing a sorority reunion the first weekend of October and are staying downtown Charleston. Will it still be warm enough to go to the beach? What else should we do apart from visiting something down south? It just depends. I will say this. In October, at the end during Halloween, girls and boys can still wear skimpy outfits and not be too cold. That's the weather. So in the beginning of October, the ocean will not be cold yet.

The air might be a little cool, but I think like people are going to be on the beach all throughout September. So first week in October, I think you'll be all right. What do you think, Austin? I think that October is the best month to visit Charleston. It's like the tourists. It's not so touristy driven. It's not so hot anymore. Ungodly humid.

Hopefully come October, it will be 10 degrees cooler. That would be ideal. And I think you're getting the most bang for your buck.

in the fall in Charleston. That is what I think. So I think that you can do everything that you want. And you'll probably even wish that it was cooler because you'll bring some sweater that you want to wear because it's fall that you ultimately won't need to wear because it's still hot. Because it's only at night and you're not going to go out with your sweater. We actually, I can't wait till next week because we have some awesome questions that we've stacked up.

Let's do one more. Well, also, what else should you do? I mean, just hit like Uptown Social, Sharehouse, pop into Halls for a drink. Austin has his own places like Felix. Will BTW be open by then? No, not the first week in October. But we are.

So excited. And y'all will be the first to know. I can promise you that when that happens. And when you're out at the beach, like if you go to Sullivan's, pop into Home Team or Mex1, you might run into Shep out there. It's a yeah, you have a solid. And, you know, I love Shem Creek. I love Reds, but a lot of people love Saltwater Cowboys. And I think that's a perfect time of year to do that.

Yeah, I think that you can utilize the rooftops too, the rooftop on top of the Dewberry. If you want to go down on East Bay Streets, the Vendue rooftop has a great view of the harbor.

There are a couple of new spots that have just opened. Yeah, it's all for the taking. And honestly, it's nothing different than what you would do in the summertime, other than maybe not renting a boat and going to sit on the beach. But maybe still could. Maybe still could, to be totally honest.

Well, guys, we love seeing you every week now that we've switched to one episode a week. So it's more manageable and easily easier schedule with everything going on. Austin, have a safe trip back here. August, I'm gone for the next the rest of the month, but we will be popping in every week. And thanks, Nick, for all that you do and whatever you have to say, Austin.

Yeah. Yeah. Just thanks for popping on, guys. And I will I'll be recording this next podcast probably in Charleston. And yeah, we'll see you guys next week.
