Shownotes Transcript

What's up guys, it's Sam and Taylor, and we want you to put your shoes on, pop open that energy drink, and go.

I don't know because we are going to be from here on out or we've already been doing this but like updates weekly on the cut process because it's gonna be starting soon so we want you guys to be up to date with that because I know some of you guys listening are like two weeks behind three weeks behind and then you guys will ask questions and we're like hey make sure you listen to them weekly but um yeah so I I don't know do we want to talk about that already yeah

jump right into it um yeah we can so i still wanted to gain weight i wanted to gain three pounds this month but guys i've been so behind i threw away like literally all my oatmeal today like i can't do it anymore i literally sat we were sitting there and i'm like it had been what 30 minutes maybe probably even longer and i go you need to just stop bulking like what is this last two weeks gonna do for you you know like start to find your maintenance

I guess. I mean, I wasn't really going to focus that much on decreasing food. I didn't even eat that much. I think I ate maintenance yesterday because I didn't eat that much. I'm pretty sure that I ate maintenance yesterday, and then I think I'm just going to start doing cardio in March. Yeah. I think I've found my maintenance calories, guys, and I am well over 50 to 75 carb per

Since before I started bulking, which is like kind of mind blowing to me because I'm like, wow, like my body really needed this. So I am up so much more at my maintenance than like what I started at. So that's pretty cool. And I'm pretty excited about that just because now I know that like

I can eat way more throughout the day because I love food. I love my oatmeal again. Taylor is still hating her oatmeal. Yeah, it's really protein powder. All protein powder is like literally disgusting to me. Even the ones that like I like, gross. I don't know what it is. But, you know, we're pushing through. I'm literally excited to cut because I just think I'm going to be great at it. Because...

I don't care for food. Yeah. I feel like you'll get that back, though. I'll definitely get it back. I have my appetite back and stuff. But I'm also craving cardio, too. Yeah. I'm craving cardio. I'm craving walks. Yeah. Which we'll be doing a lot of. Yeah, I know. We will definitely be doing a lot of that with macro, you know? Well, this will be out on Friday. I'll definitely post it before Friday. We have another dog. Yeah.

We have another dog. There's two of them. There's two of them. They're being really good boys and girls right now. They're just sleeping, chilling. But I adopted a puppy because I've been wanting to adopt a dog just so bad. And I don't know how I was able to get her. I thought I had no chance of getting her because I'm young and I live in an apartment and puppies go so fast that I just assumed I'd be on like...

bottom of priority list of everyone that got like that everyone that applied for this dog I was like there's no shot I'm gonna get it because why would they pick like me over someone that's like a family with the house and I got to see her first and I was like no effing way and she's such a little cutie I love her so much and today was her first morning with the like we picked her up Tuesday afternoon and

Her and Macro were fine. They were like, didn't really care about each other. It was honestly weird. Yeah, we were like, why are you guys not excited? They literally didn't give a fuck. They were like, aunt. Like, I don't get it. This morning, they were crazy. Yeah. But, you know, it's the first day. Yeah. It's the first day. That'll just keep getting better. But Macro, potty training? Yeah, we're on one week with Macro. Macro peed and pooped on the pee pad like five times this morning. Yeah, literally, it's the most exciting thing ever. You should see us, guys. I give him a treat.

Like what we've been doing guys, if anyone else is training a dog, like if you're in an apartment like us, the pee pads are right next to the door to our balcony. So that way like they know and they're going to be trained to know to go to the door when the pee pads go on. So we've been just like lifting them up to every time we see them pee and bring them to it. But I think I'm like now like not really needing to do that because all of this morning he's been going to the pee pad.

And what I do is I just give him a nice little treat after and I congratulate him like so much. He gets so excited. No, you guys should see like because if Sam's not looking, I'm like, yay! And she's like, what happened? I'm like, oh my god! Yeah, it's like we're screaming our heads off. We're like, yeah! I feel like, honestly, we're going to scare him because we're like so excited. Yeah, right? No, but he gets so excited. And then when he gets excited, he like sprawls on the ground. Like he doesn't even like run around like normal dogs would like run and twirl around. Like he just like goes on like he spreads himself. And it's making me so like...

Because, like, obviously this morning, a little crazy. But, I mean, it's already 10.30 and they're freaking asleep. And probably the worst of the day is already over. But, like, the fact that he already, like, got to doing that so quickly. They're smart. Yeah, they are smart. Like, they're not stupid. And he definitely, like you said, knows his name now. He knows his name now. Like, and I feel like I expected that to take longer. Yeah. And now that it, like, goes so fast, I'm like, they'll get it. They'll get the hang of it. And I feel so bad for her because I think she's just a little on edge because she had surgery on Tuesday. Yeah.

And like when you adopt a dog, they've just been... You haven't even said the dog's name yet. Oh, her name is Charlie. Her name is Charlie. She's a little black dog with little white feet. She's so cute. We don't know the exact breed. We think she's a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

We don't know for sure, though, because she was adopted. But anyways, like, they just, they're a little, like, on edge because they've been moved around so much. Like, you know, they were literally strays on the street, then in a shelter, then another home, then back to the shelter for surgery, and then back to a different house. Like, it's a lot for a, like, eight-week-old puppy. That's a lot of moving. So she doesn't really like the car, and I feel so bad. And I just want her to understand that, like, she's staying here and that, like, she's going to be okay. Yeah.

And then she's not moving because I feel so bad bringing her in the car. Yeah. I just feel like she thinks she's like being taken somewhere else. They're going to be best buds though. We were even saying they're going to be so good. Like the very first day we were like, oh, like in my head I was like brother, sister. I was like, no, not brother, sister, cousins. Yeah. Yeah. They'll, they'll get it. They'll, I say give it like two weeks and it'll be like.

pretty pretty easy yeah no it will be i'm excited for it i'm excited and then it's gonna start to get nicer and we can bring them to lift and to the park we're actually gonna go to the park this weekend for the first time i'm not sure how well that will go i feel like i'm gonna have to carry mac for the longest time because he's definitely not leash trained he's gonna be like biting the leash like a crazy person but yeah and also stay tuned for the backyard patio design yes process

Yeah, we bought turf on Amazon, so that was cool. I have some of it vlogged on YouTube that will be up on Sunday, I believe. So you'll see some visuals of it, but it won't be done by then because I don't think the rest of the turf is going to get here until the beginning of next week. Oh, damn. Well, we'll get some of it. I think mine comes tomorrow. The other half comes tomorrow. Perfect.

um so that'll be fun you'll see us do our patio but it's been so nice like I just like feel like I just needed something in my life like another purpose to my day besides my work and like I because you know obviously it's like you say you're gonna get a dog you're saying you're gonna have two dogs and then it's like that's so much work whatever like all that my screen time on TikTok is absurd I was like I have time

Like this morning I didn't scroll on my phone. Like another, you know what I mean? Example is last night. Like we were out here at like eight 30 or whatever with the dogs. Like we would have been just like sitting in our beds and our phones. I got right out of bed at seven. Yeah. I was like on the ground, like with my dog, you know, it's definitely, it helps a lot.

And I didn't even say this on my TikTok, but I found this so rude and annoying and it's like been bugging me. But like I posted this TikTok and I was like, oh, like anxiety is bad. Like the gym will fix it. And then I was like,

I was like, oh, no, gym doesn't fix it. Oh, get a puppy. The puppy will fix it. So the puppy fixed the anxiety. Kind of like as a joke, because obviously a fucking puppy can't cure everything. But someone commented, I was like, how can you have anxiety or like anything as an influencer? And I literally wanted to like... My blood was boiling because...

I know everyone listening here, like y'all are like so supportive, so loving, so amazing. But sometimes people on TikTok, I'm like, do y'all never remember? Like I'm a human being. If you see me in the grocery store, if you see me at the gym, like I'm the same type of person as you. Like I'm no different. I'm on no different tier than you. We are the same people, like same emotions, same day to day, like routine, like everything.

stop treating us differently so yeah and she didn't even post that it was like anxiety about work yeah which like when she was like someone commented this i thought the tiktok was gonna be like when you have like anxiety from work so i thought like that's why they commented on it didn't even mention work at all so freaking strange but they're just like so much like joy like getting out of bed at like 7 a.m

we've been struggling to get up too I've been struggling to get up and like I get up and I scroll on TikTok and I didn't do that today and it was awesome now mind you she didn't have a crate because it was this whole thing none of the stores had crates for her it was really annoying but I ordered one on Amazon it's not coming till tomorrow whatever I got her a crate this morning but last night she didn't have a crate I was gonna put her in the bathtub with like a blanket but she can get out of the bathtub so

So that wasn't going to work. Yeah. So I was like, you know what? She slept on like a pile of blankets, all nice and comfy. But then she woke up at like four and I was she was not really seeming like she liked the floor and was going to go to sleep. So I was like, you know what? Just come up here with me because I'm not trying to watch where you're going. I'd rather just be able to feel if you're next to me or not.

and then so i had to wake up and bring her outside it's not like i could just like be like oh she's in the crate she's fine i like had to bring her out here and then i felt bad because macro was like yo what the hell i know and i'm like look i was so quiet though i was surprised because i heard you get come out here and i was like i really want to keep sleeping just a little bit longer yeah no and i was like if he whines i'll come out he never ended up whining and i was like you know what now i'm like awake so i'll just get up yeah and now that they both have crates we'll let them out of the

Same time. Yeah. And it'll be easy breezy. Yeah. Yeah. Is she sleeping? Yeah, I think so. They're both sleeping. Yeah, they're both sleeping. This is our podcast time. Puppy nap time. Yeah. But that's basically it. It's just like the focus of life I feel like has drifted from like, I don't know, like work so much. Yeah. Like not like from work. Obviously we're doing work, but it's like changing our routine every day. Yeah. Like switching things up so we're not just like in a cycle. Yeah, of course. Because...

you know, when we're, it's just the two of us, like nothing is going to distract us if now we have the puppy. So we get distracted a little bit, which is good. And we have new friends. We do. Yeah. We have like, I'm like, guys, we're socializing. Are you so freaking proud of us? Our moms are like, yeah. Yeah. Our moms are like, Oh my God, friends. Like you've been doing things. I'm like, yeah, thanks mom. Yeah. And then, um, every single time we post with someone else, all the comments are like,

What happened to Sam? Where's Taylor? Oh my god dude it's so funny. People you guys literally not you guys and specifically but like people in general think that we fight when we like aren't interacting on social media. Like do you guys forget that like we're with each other every single damn day. We just forget to take photos together. We never take photos together. It's terrible. Yeah it's so bad. We were at like House of Gains that gym that we went to Sunday Monday and Taylor was like Sam we need to get a photo and if we don't get a photo we're canceling the podcast.

I was like, we don't deserve it. We don't deserve it because we're terrible. We don't take photos together The instagram gonna be dead because we don't take photos we didn't take a photo. Yeah two days later We're like fuck we didn't take a photo TikTok is like easier though to like do content together because like trends like yeah, yeah stuff like that But like photos I just forget. Yeah, if you're like, oh, yeah, I guess the podcast instagram is like months of old photos Yeah, yeah, it is. No, like if you see a photo on the podcast instagram that's photo was probably like four months ago but yeah, no, so

That's been that. And then we came across, we stumbled across something where people are literally so crazy that if I don't like Taylor's photo, y'all will go on like a rant thing and we're going to fight.

So yesterday, I had to go on her Instagram and like all the photos I haven't liked and comment on a bunch of them. So that way you guys didn't think we're fighting. Yeah, Sam was like, I commented on a bunch of your TikToks. And I was like, I don't think I've commented on your TikTok once. Yeah. I was like, I don't comment on your TikToks. People are like, oh my God, they're fighting. Like Sam didn't comment on Taylor's Instagram. Oh wait, nevermind. Taylor just commented on Sam's. Okay, I think they're fine. I don't know. I'm like, jeez guys. Yeah, no. I just like, why would I...

Out of the many things I have to do on Instagram, commenting on your post is like... I comment if I see it. I know. It's so funny. But yeah, no, that has been life. It's been pretty good. Kind of going back all the way to like the cutting... Whoops. The cutting thing. Um...

I think I'm going to go one more week of like these maintenance and then I'm going to work my way into cardio. I started doing like the 7.5 steps per day and I stopped that after two days because I was so freaking hungry at the end of the day. And I was like, okay, um, my maintenance, I don't know. So I stopped doing that and now I'm going to wait like one more week and then we're going to get into it. Yeah. I think in March, I think this, what I'm going to do is like, it like just start with like cardio. Yeah.

Like, incline walk stairs. You're going to keep your food that you're eating right now? Well, I haven't been hitting... I don't even know what my macros are right now because I haven't hit them in weeks. I haven't hit... I'm supposed to be eating 3,000 calories. Guys, I could not tell you the last time that I finished my fitness pal at 3,000 calories. I can't fucking do it. I literally can't do it. But that's what I'm supposed to be eating. It's not happening. But I'm just going to try. I try to eat...

it's not happening yeah no but i just want to start cardio really bad it just the energy you get for the rest of the day like i remember when i used to do my like morning walks my energy for the rest of the day i was like wired i was like ready to go i'm like let's do everything possible i just want to like go on the stairmaster for like 30 minutes you know yeah no no late can't relate at all i kind of want to do it yeah well anyway guys let's get into the main topic of today's or i guess this week's

podcast episode and that is personal training how to do it where to start what to do once you get it um so we'll guess we'll just start off with basically the very beginning we've talked about this before i got mine through ace i got mine through nasm national academy of sports medicine yeah so they're both just like two online like courses that you can do

I honestly just did mine through referral from somebody else. There's honestly really no difference between the two. Obviously, depending on what your career paths are, it will depend. Like say you want to one day work for like, this is super random because this was a goal of mine like way back was be a personal trainer for like the New England Patriots or like something really advanced. Then you're going to want to like really research on like

that type of stuff but if you were really just trying to do it for like your own one-on-one coaching trying to be your own girl boss do it in a gym whatever it is like those types of things that are a little bit um you know not as like the word professional is not not what I'm looking for but like not as not as much yeah no I know you're saying like it doesn't take it's not as like specialized and specific yeah it's very general yeah so um

Yeah, that is where you should kind of look is Ace or Nassim. Yeah, I just literally chose that one because I followed these two other girls that live near me. They got their CPT. That's what they used. And I was like, I will do that. Yeah. I literally was just like, oh, that's how they did it.

Sounds good. Yeah. So I believe they're the same. Correct me if I'm wrong, Taylor, but you have three different choices when you are signing up. It can be like, I'm just gonna say one, two, three, because I can't remember. I can't remember if mine was three, but it was basically of different. Yeah. Like they were different packagings. Yeah. I think I just got the middle packaging just because I

I knew I wasn't going to be meeting with, I think my top one, the most expensive one was like you were literally meeting with like a study person like once a week or something. And I knew I wasn't going to do that. I didn't need that. I knew I was capable of doing it on my own. So I just got the middle one.

um do you remember i got the cheapest one so on nasm it's called self-study that's the only thing i know it's called self-study and then there's like added study tools and the other ones but i know the cheapest one is self-study um and it was like on sale when i got it i don't know if it's like oh they're always on i was gonna say i don't know if they're always on sale so it looks like you're getting a good deal but if by any chance you check and it's like not on sale at that point

like give it a week like i'm pretty sure they're always on sale so if by any chance it's not just hold off because it definitely will be and it is kind of expensive even the cheapest one but i got the cheapest one because i was like f it i'll figure it out like i don't need like the extra help because the amount of free resources you can find if you look up nasm study guide i used youtube pretty much um

Can I just go into how I studied? Yeah, and I'll go. So I first was like, I'm reading every chapter of the book. Okay. So I read every chapter of the book. I was still, I was like in, was I in college? Yeah, I was in college. So I still had school. So I wasn't super into it. So it took me a while because I was kind of doing it on the side. I was like, I'm reading every chapter of the book. I'm highlighting everything. I'm taking notes on everything. Okay.

Then as I got into it, I was like, this doesn't seem the most efficient because what you're reading is like, there's no way you're using this when you're like personal training. Like they just, some of it is a lot of it's like nonsense, honestly, or just repeating itself a bunch of times. So then I looked up on YouTube and

ways to study and basically it was like so the whole test is primarily overactive and underactive muscles and a few other little things so I found this guy I wish I knew the name of it maybe I can find it if I look myself but there was this guy that gave the most a

amazing explanations to the stuff in the book and how to study and how to make it make perfect sense he literally would go through chapter by chapter and tell you exactly what you needed to know for the test what you didn't need to know what parts like weren't that important all that he did so good it was literally like having a tutor probably what was the most paid for one like this guy on youtube literally explained it perfectly and i was like i just waited so much of my time

reading every single thing in the book when I found this guy that literally just taught it to me because like obviously when you're reading it's very like scientific and very professional it has its place to know that but when you're trying to learn it doesn't it doesn't click when you're

reading like straight scientific textbook words you need like someone to be like actually like saying it in a way that makes sense and that did it for me I was like I should have done that from the beginning found someone to literally tutor me through YouTube took my notes on what he said and then did the little guided quizzes at the they had like I don't know if yours had this like for each kind of section there was little like

Check your knowledge or like questions. So I did those a bunch of times. And that was mainly how I studied was the guy on YouTube and doing every practice test, every little practice test for each section a bunch of times. Yeah. Mine was a little different the way I went about it. I highly recommend if you...

can find one finding a Facebook group my ace program had a Facebook group and inside that Facebook group people were literally posting their own like study notes that they created that were basically summed up the entire textbook and

And it had visuals on it that people would make and, like, all this stuff. So I was just, like, looking through those. And when you guys go on Facebook groups, I know, because obviously we have our own. If you want to, just go to the search engine inside the Facebook group and just type in the chapter you're trying to study. The entire, like, post, like, the most popular posts will come up first. But, like, with a lot of different study tools that you can look for that people have created on their own. Just because, obviously, the textbook is...

very kind of complicated and I don't know the Sense of reading it like for me at least because I have a few different learning disabilities was so hard I'm a very big for visual learner. So I went through The Facebook group and that helped me out a lot And then the same thing with Taylor I was studying through those like all those little guys that people had made and then I was doing each chapter those quizzes and exams but I also

Found this... Someone recommended it. It was an online resource that was just basically quizzes after quizzes of quizzes of quizzes. You paid for it. It was like $30 for the whole thing. And if you passed your exam and you showed proof of passing, they gave you the $30 back. Oh, wow. Yeah, so...

If I can find it, I will for sure link it for you guys. But yeah, so I bought that and basically it was just like chapter one and then had like seven different types of like seven to eight or whatever numbers of quizzes, tests, and you can just take them. And it was basically the same exact questions on the ACE exam. I don't know how or if that's even legal, but like it literally helped me so much. So I did that as well.

And I honestly hardly touched the textbook. Like, if I'm being honest, I hardly touched it. With my packaging, I got a hard copy of the textbook. Did you? No. So, yeah. So, my middle... Because, like I said, I'm a visual learner. I needed, like, the textbook in hand. I couldn't look at my computer screen and learn. So, I got the middle packaging that had the textbook, which was great. I think I still have it. It's at my home. Like, I didn't even bring it with me. But... So, yeah. That's what I did. And now that I'm thinking about it, now that you said yours and I said mine, what I'm thinking is...

Facebook groups are a great way to help each other spread resources and all those things. So what I'm thinking I'm going to do guys is I'm going to inside the Facebook page, drop our resources that we had. If you can find the guy from YouTube and I'll find that like program that I did mine through, I will create a post on the page and then you guys can comment within that and give more advice, more resources and just keep growing that posts. That way anyone that's looking to go start,

for their CPT can go to that post and find a lot of great resources. Right. That's a great idea. So if you're not on the Facebook group, join the Facebook group. That's a great idea. So basically the way I, when I talk about CPT, obviously we're just talking about how to pass and the reason for that and the reason I'm not like, this is how to,

learn the most through these programs is because you're not going to learn valuable training information through these programs honestly you're just not like yeah you're just not a piece of paper it's a piece of paper they were i was learning stuff that i don't know that you literally don't need to bring a client into the gym like i don't even know how to explain it because i for it was a while ago so i don't remember exactly what it was

But it's just not stuff you need. It's just not necessary. Yeah. And it's very cookie cutter and kind of old school, kind of like every client you start with making them do like a two inch step up. Like, yeah. Right. Just like, just like it was kind of stupid. And everyone agrees in that. If you look up trainer, they're like having your CPT kind of means nothing. Obviously you need it for jobs. You're going to get, you need the piece of paper, but realistically knowledge wise, it's

It's not getting you anything. So this is my biggest tip and I hope it makes sense. I hope I say it correctly because this is what the guy taught me that made me pass my exam. This is the last thing I'll say about studying. But so the NASM exam is highly focused on overactive and underactive muscles, which again, kind of weird because you would think the test would be about how to be a good personal trainer. It's not. It's like you do a squat, your knees cave in, what's happening? Those were all my questions. Okay. Here is what clicked everything for me.

So when they give you the answer choices, there's four answer choices. If they're like, what is the overactive muscle? Three of the choices will be underactive muscles and only one will be an overactive muscle. The list of overactive muscles and underactive muscles, no matter what exercise, one muscle is either always overactive or always underactive. It won't switch. Like something that's overactive for a squat won't be underactive on exercise.

I don't even know. I forgot what the fucking test was about. But like there are two separate list of muscles and three of them will be on one list. And if it says overactive, only one will be on the right list. Yeah. That makes any sense. No, it does. Like you get what I'm saying? Yeah. So if you just can see, okay, three of those are underactive.

you like the one that's the one that's not what the other ones is the answer. Yeah. And that's basically what the guy said, because everyone's just kind of in agreement. You just need to pass the test to get the piece of paper. And then once you get into the field, that's where you learn. That's like where all the knowledge comes in. I think, yes, I got my exam or I took the exam past it, but I don't think I started really learning until I stepped into the field and I actually had my job. I learned so much within like one week.

I was like one week of just having this job. Damn. Like I know so much more than that would have ever taught me, you know? So it is really important to make sure that even if you feel like you got the piece of paper and you still feel like super nervous and you're not ready to get a job, that feeling is completely normal. Like that's how I felt. You're not going to feel like super nervous.

like successful with it and like no feel like you know everything until you actually are doing it yeah so I was working front desk at a workout studio and that's why I actually got my CPT was because right before COVID like right before lockdown I wanted to teach there and they were like you just need to be in progress of getting your CPT so that's why I bought the course lockdown happened didn't do it but after lockdown finished I did go back to working there I worked front desk and

Even though I wasn't even coaching, watching the coaches –

like teach the class, watching them give accommodations to people, watching them demonstrate, watching them talk to clients. Cause that's, that's a huge part of it. How you interact and literally physically coach a person as in cues and words and body language and watching them do that. I was like, I learned a lot just through, just through watching them do their thing. No. Yeah. That's so true. So kind of going into that and off of that, um,

What do you do with your CPT? There are so many different things that you can do with it. It's crazy. Like, there's no wrong thing. It's whatever you're most passionate about. Like, what was... So, where you were, what was it? So, it was kind of like an Orange Theory kind of style thing. It was like treadmills and then you do floor with weights. Got you. Yeah. So, like, if you're into that type of stuff, that's great. Awesome. You can use it with that. I don't know. I think spin, you have to get your own, like, certification, right? Yeah. So, there's different...

fitness studios are privately owned businesses so they can have whatever qualifications they want they need you know what i'm saying yeah they could require you to be a cbt i think there's another type of certification to be like a instructor in a studio i think that's like another certification um i know spin studios i mean i think all studios you have to audition like yeah they have their own practices in place so it's probably different for each yeah each thing so i guess we can kind of go off of like

and like the instructor aspect, like whatever certification you need to get for your like fitness dream job or whatever job you want to pursue.

There are so many, like Orange Theory, for example. What is it? Bar or berries? Is that one? Yeah, Orange Theory, berries, cycle bar. Any type of gym, like any gym. It can be like a private-owned gym, a commercial gym. You see those trainers walking around there. Like you can be a trainer at a gym. Or lastly, you could be doing your own thing, one-on-one coaching. And like I said, you're not...

gonna be super comfortable until you jump into those things and say the first job you get maybe it's the first opportunity you have maybe it's not the first thing that you're super passionate about if you get that job opportunity take it because you can learn so much just from that one opportunity if you're even just like behind a front desk at a gym like you can learn so much just from that so take those opportunities up and then learn kind of like

everything that's going on so that way one day you can potentially just like be that girl boss like we were talking with Olivia last week and do it on your own

I think that's like the biggest thing to take away from it. Right. And it's all, it's all experience. I know working in a gym, I've heard people say that when you work in a gym, they teach you nothing about training. All they teach you is sales. Yeah. You know, sell training sessions, sell memberships. So important. But guess what? Experience. You get experience one-on-one with the client and you get it guided. So it's not like all the thoughts on you and you have to figure out a way to do it. The gym will tell you what to do.

and you just kind of got to take the experience and you get some sales experience. Like obviously you don't have to be like scummy about it and be like scamming people into training sessions, but you get experience dealing with customers. And you also get like clientele in a way where it's like, I know some contracts are very different. If you're working with a company, you cannot work,

through that contract that you signed, take a client from one company to your own, but like you can at least meet people out in that, like out there. So say you worked at a planet fitness. I'm just saying planet fitness because when I was back home and I was going through my CPT process, like that's a gym I worked out at. And those were, I started CPTs all the time in planet fitness and

Even if I personally was working out at Planet Fitness and there was personal trainers there and I developed a relationship with them just by like coming into the gym, saying hi to them, stuff like that. And I never even signed up with them. And say as a trainer, you left Planet Fitness and you weren't working there anymore. Those people are potential clienteles because you built your relationship with them and they feel comfortable with you and they know who you are. Yeah. And all those people you work out with freaking...

Susan whatever and Susan's fucking friend is like oh I need a trainer she's like I love my trainer yeah exactly like you have to just establish good relationships outside of that and I I say this like I've done a lot of in-person training but I've I've seen it and I'm like aware of the process like obviously I didn't really do in-person training I worked at a studio so I saw a lot of it but I'm just saying from like

from watching people go different ways and observing all the ways you can go in the fitness industry what yeah no of course it's funny that we're saying that too I've never done in-person training as well but what I one thing that I did do was pretty much all of my high school college I was doing like field hockey camps on my own like I started them from scratch like did them on my own and I was doing them like I rented out like turf and like I had

Like, little kids come, like, anywhere from, like, literally, like, elementary school to middle school before becoming a freshman. And the way I was able to build, like, those camps was purely through, like, word of mouth. Right. Like, there was no other way. I didn't have a social media platform at the time, so...

It was word of mouth. Girls would talk about it, how much they loved it. Their parents would talk with it, with the other parents, and that's how it came about. So if you're listening to this and you have an Instagram platform, maybe it has 500 followers, 2,000 followers, whatever it is, you need to realize that even 10 people from that platform that you have...

You have a job there. If you can get 10 people solely, that's a part-time job. You have that. And I know a lot of you guys listening are probably still in college or whatnot. So that would be perfect, a part-time job. And one thing with having that as a part-time job before jumping into a full-time job is that's, again, bringing in the full experience. So that way you're getting comfortable with it. It's not a full-time thing. You're learning. You're also educating and helping girls. But it's not...

Right.

Right. And let's say you get to the point where you're doing it on your own. Maybe you have in-person clients in your like hometown, whatever. Something you're going to have to do is invest in yourself, which I mean, the CPT is already investing in yourself. It's like honestly like 500 bucks or something like that. It's expensive, but you know, you're going to make it back. If you're going to make it back and you got to do what you got to do. So it's expensive, but let's say you want to do in-person training with people in your neighborhood. You want to go to their houses. You want them to come to your house.

invest in some dumbbells. Like, you're going to have to get stuff. You know what I mean? You're going to have to get mats. You're going to have to get dumbbells because if that's the type of training you want to do, you know, because if it's like...

like like moms or like whatever who's not trying to be like yeah totally like weightlifting in the gym right now you need to get get stuff and invest in yourself so that way you have like an actual way to like make money because you can't be like sad about not making money if you didn't put anything into it like you gotta like really seem ready for it so that way like they feel comfortable they feel confident in you yeah like all that stuff like we're talking with olivia i'm pretty sure

I don't know if it's in her backyard, but she has a whole set up. She has a whole set up. Pretty cool. Yeah. And you could go Facebook marketplace. You don't have to buy some brand new fancy stuff. I bet you can find... People give away equipment all the time. I gave away... I think we had a leg press. I think we had a cable machine. We had all this stuff in my garage and we gave it away when I was young. And now to this day, I'm so pissed. Yeah. With COVID and stuff. I was like, why? All that stuff that I invested into, my parents got rid of.

So like my entire gym garage gone. I'm like, whatever. It's not really like I'm across the country now, but yeah, but it's just like, what are they going to do with it? It was taking up room. They couldn't even put the cars in the garage anymore. Um, but if you guys have noticed, we have not even mentioned working for a company. Notice how we like a, like a personal training company, online personal training company.

Right. We have not mentioned that just because we truly believe each and every one of you are capable of doing this on your own. You are capable of being your own entrepreneur, boss bitch, whatever it is, and you can do it. And another thing, I don't know if we want to jump right into that. I mean...

Yeah, we can't... It's a tricky spot because some people are like, but what if I don't want to make a whole business? Maybe they're like, Sam, I hear you, but I kind of don't want to start a business from scratch. You want to go into an established online coaching thing. They already have clients. You're not in charge. You get a paycheck. Easy breezy. You need to understand that you're not getting screwed. Yeah. So...

Yeah, I guess we can just jump right into it. Don't get screwed. I get pretty heated about this conversation. So, yeah, one thing is you need to make sure that whatever company that is completely online is 100% worth it. And you're not just jumping into the experience without asking questions, without getting referrals from other people that are also in the company and whatnot. Because...

A really big mistake that I made this time last year was jumping right into this company that I started working for with absolutely no experience in personal training. It was my first ever job. I was told a price range that I was guaranteed from this job, which another thing, if any company or any person is promising you a certain amount of money, that is a very big red flag. So do not...

Expect a guarantee of money from somebody. So big red flag there. But I know it's exciting and it's great when you get like a message, an email, a phone call from like a company. But you need to also remember what's important and that is your own business.

like your own worth as a employee. Um, cause there are a lot of online companies out there that will truly take advantage of you because all they really care about is the money value that's coming in. Um, once you become a, you know, client, not clients, a employee for them. So, um,

I don't know if you want to like kind of take off from what I'm saying before I get really like, you know. So I want to say this before I forget. So in addition to online coaching companies, if you want to online coach yourself, I'm just, I don't want to forget to say this. These people that are selling you courses on how to do this on your own, ping,

tens of thousands of dollars guys to how to be an online personal trainer business coach don't do that don't you don't need that you literally don't need that don't let those people take your money for no reason they know what you're doing they know what they're doing they're not stupid they're not stupid you're paying these people thousands of dollars you know how you can get that experience

Talking to people in the gym, making relationships, like that's going to get you experience. Talking to trainers at the gym, talking to people in your neighborhood that do coaching. There's successful people that do coaching that are quote unquote, like, like nobodies. You know what I mean? You don't need some like top high end, like business guy to teach you the ropes. Like I remember in quarantine, I saw this guy.

every day i'd go my hot girl walk he'd be in his garage training i bet he's successful as hell he had a whole gym in there there was always people there they'd be doing little group classes i was like he's probably like in his bag yeah i bet if one day i was like hey can i talk to you he would have given me oh my god boat loads of advice for zero dollars yeah it's crazy like you see it all over tiktok too people will be like

Oh my god, this girl right here is selling her program for X amount of money. Meanwhile, all of my TikTok content has been how to build your online training or your online software or whatever it is for free. So I'm making all this free TikTok content. Meanwhile, Susie over here is selling a $1,000 course on how to do it. So...

There's ways to invest into yourself, but that is not one of the ways to invest into yourself. First, start off by talking with people, YouTube videos, whatever it is. Do your research on your own before you really invest into something that's like,

I don't even know what they label them. Like how to be like business coaches, but business coaches centered around there's business coaches for everything, but they, there are ones centered around online. Yes. There's a very big one, um, located in our area and it's pretty, it's pretty insane to hear what these people are actually charging for courses on how to be a business person. Right. Um, so yeah, going off of that, um,

obviously don't look like, don't go for those. Um, but when it comes to coaching, there are amazing companies out there, like amazing, like small business, like not small business, but like smaller creator. Cause you see all these online training companies and it's most likely a trainer with a big platform that has started this company, not a big company platform, but like a decent size following. It can be 10,000 people up.

a lot of great like people that have platforms, but then there are those other types of people that have, um, companies and their main goal at the end of the day is to get as many clients as possible and stuff as much money into their wallet as possible. Right. And get as many employees as possible to build that roster for training. Right. And I solely hardly believe that no company,

personal trainer should have more than 30 to 40 clients on their roster. That 40 is even like pushing it. 40 is pushing it. That's a full guys. That is a nine to 10 PM. Yes. That is a job that takes your whole day. And I just want to say it right now, this job that I had a year ago today, I had 108 clients at once.

Now you can probably think, wow, weren't you guys just saying 40s a lot? Like that's a full-time job. I'm not even kidding. I was waking up at 6 a.m. every single day and I was working until 9 p.m. because not only was I doing personal training, but I was trying to balance my social medias, YouTube, all of it. Me and Sam could barely do anything when I came to visit. Like, I was like, let's make a TikTok. It's like, no, no, no. Sam was working. I gotta get back to like another client, which keep in mind, like I loved my job so much, but it...

I started that job in February and quit two months later, three, sorry, three months later because of how much my clientele built up in such a short period of time. I went from zero to 108 within three months and I,

They saw them from the owner's perspective. They saw the money flow coming in. So they just wanted to keep building and building and building my roster because they saw how great my engagement was on social media, that they knew all the clientele was coming from me and they were building not only my roster up, but they were building up the other rosters of the employees on the teams. And yeah,

It was just the most overwhelming experience ever. My like emotions, my thoughts, my concerns were never a concern to them. Um,

I was so overworked. So if you're in a situation right now, cause I, we even talked about this before on another episode and I've had like two to three girls reach out to me saying that, Oh my goodness, like my roster is like this high. Like I'm so nervous. Like it's crazy. I just thought it was normal that I should be working this much. It's not normal. You should not be working that much. It's you're taking away the value of what your client actually deserves. So if you have 30 clients, um,

You get to give all of your time and effort into those 30 clients. You get to actually evaluate them, put your hard-earned time into giving them biofeedback, reading all of their stuff, really digging into their food and their weight, their photos, digging into all of it. Whereas when you have 100 or even less,

50 plus, you're slowly taking away that time that each client deserves. And then the money that they're actually spending month to month goes to complete waste.

Yeah. And not to mention, um, yes, the clients need your attention, of course, but also when picking personal training, when picking a job that you're going to do on your own, even if you're under someone in a company, it's still a very, um, freeing job. You, you should have free time. You shouldn't be chained to, to, uh, to a computer all day because someone is making all this money off of you and needs you to work. You should do personal training because it's

and gives you like joy in your life. Like it should be something where you have free time and you can kind of like coordinate your schedule. Like it's a great job in that you can do that. And if someone takes it away from you, that's a big red flag. And I also wanted to, because if some of you are confused, if you're like, what do you mean owner? Like what do you mean employee? Like I don't understand what's going on. Someone, personal trains, okay? They make a lot of money. They have a lot of clients. Sorry guys, the puppies are chewing on squeaky toys.

They make a lot of money. They have a lot of clients, but they can't do it on their own because they cap their roster of 50 and there's 50 more girls that want to train. So they take someone else, give those 50 girls to them, but they're under her. So the girl at the top takes a percentage and then it keeps going like that. They have seven or eight coaches now. They built a business. Now that's a fine structure. Obviously business has a structure. Someone has to be on the top. People have to be employees. That's kind of how it works.

But they should never be taking advantage of you and you should be fully aware of what's going on. Because biggest red flag, if they're not telling you about contracts or money, run. Yeah, run. That's another thing. I had no idea how much each client was paying. I had no idea what percent they were taking from me.

I had no idea about it. And the way I found out was through a DM on Instagram of a girl saying, hey, like, I can't afford X amount of money for this training, but I really need some advice. And when I saw that number, my jaw dropped to the motherfucking floor because I wasn't even making 50% of that per client. And I was like, well, like, that's when I really woke up and I was like, I'm being used so hardcore.

And I'm slowly but surely really starting to unenjoy like this amazing job, this amazing experience of being able to build relationships with girls that had the same struggles that I had had that I had now like fully like surpassed and being gifted the opportunity to help these girls build a better relationship with food and whatnot. And yeah,

It just, it's so sad. Like it breaks my heart, honestly, like looking back and like seeing like some of the girls that had to experience that with me. And again, if anyone out here is listening to this and you guys know exactly what I'm talking about and you were probably one of my clients from that, I am so sorry. Like seriously, things did not go as I wanted it to go, obviously, but there are obviously things I can and cannot say because of contracts, but in NDAs, but yeah.

I do really want to help as many of you as possible get the job that you really deserve and...

should have and be able to do what you're passionate about and I genuinely think that everyone is capable of doing it on their own but yes like Taylor said if you just don't feel like doing the outreach aspect you don't feel like dealing with contracts you don't feel like doing dealing with invoices there are amazing companies out there I promise you there are so many I could list a million I mean we met up with McKenna and she she is um our

Our friend, whatever. She follows the same structure. And she was like, yeah, but my employees know how much... They see the contracts. They know how much they're being paid. We don't take 80% of the money. Their rosters are capped at 30. You know what I'm saying? And that is night and day. So you just need to be aware. At first, how do you know what's right and what's wrong? Online coaching businesses through Instagram are such a new...

a new thing. Not a lot of people would be like, I don't really know what's, you know, there's probably not a lot of people that can give you advice on what's good or bad because not a lot of people know what it's like to work for an online coaching thing through freaking Instagram. Yeah. But just if you are not being told things up front and you have that big of a roster, something is not right. Yeah, of course. And yeah,

Um, you know, it's always a great opportunity to, to work for a really good company just to get the experience, to get the knowledge. And then one day, maybe when your contract up is, is up with working with them, go and do your own thing. There is nothing wrong with that because now you've been given the knowledge and you've built relationships, friendships, whatever it is. And now you can go on your own and you have the confidence that, you know, you're capable of doing these things on your own. And now look at you.

You're your own girl boss. And that's fantastic. So I really hope that this can kind of resonate with some of you guys. Because I know a lot of you guys are constantly asking how to get a CPT, how to get the jobs, what to look out for, and all that. So...

Yeah. Yeah. Something also with the CPT, there's a lot of like continued education you could do through the courses. This is like backtracking, but you can get different specializations through each of them. I don't know what's on ACE, but I know on NASM you could do like...

um nutrition courses you can do like sports therapy courses you can you can specialize in a lot of different things and i think you have to like continue education i have not done that because i am done coaching right now so um yeah me and sam are both kind of done doing personal training our life took us in a different route so the continued education to keep up my cpt is not um

priority right now because I'm not training, but that is something you do have to do. So it is a continued, um, investment, but I mean, I don't know, like who checks that kind of stuff. Yeah. I don't know. But another thing, I really don't know how that works. Yeah. Another thing I do want to say now that you brought that up is if you only have your CPT for the love of God, do not be giving out meal plans, please. Oh, hell no. Like, first of all, that is not your priority.

your route of education. You should not be giving out specific meal plans to any of your clientele. What you should be doing with the CPT is literally giving out workout programs that are focused on progressive overload based on their, you know, body anatomy. If they obviously, if you do their onboarding and they tell you they have scoliosis or they have an exterior pelvic tilt, base their training off of those things. So that way it's personalized to them. And then also, you know, macros, you can do just macros

no meal plans, and you are helping them week by week based on their biofeedback, adjusting their macros based on their goals, whether they want to body recomp, lose weight, gain weight. You know the gist, okay, guys? So that is just another PSA. Make sure you guys are doing the right things with that CPT. Right. Meal plans, like, are... The amount of people that are just out here giving people directly, I'm talking, like, one-fourth cup oats with this much... Yeah. That is...

That is absurd. That is literally absurd. I don't even encourage meal plans either. Even if you do have somebody that is like a dietician, nutritionist, and they're giving you a meal plan, I don't even encourage those things because people are going to think, like say you're newer to the whole tracking thing, you're going to think that's what you need to eat in order to see the results. You're so spread thin with like what you think you can have for your day of eating that like, oh my God, like I can't even have like this meal

Buffalo chicken burrito because my meal plan says I have to have this for my goals. So that's why I like that we just did macros and everyone that does just macros, that way they're able to tailor their meals to what they like and what they enjoy. Right. And when I was doing...

Obviously, I didn't do a lot of, like, continued education. My coaching was very focused on, like, getting girls to be confident in the gym to lift heavy and getting them to eat more. That was literally it. And I think it's funny because there's always people saying that, like,

that I think I know everything. I'm like, all I try to do is get girls to lift heavy and eat more. And if that's a crime. Yeah. If that's a crime, I don't know. But that is what, that's what my clients took away from it. Like, did they see a lot of, I did a lot of shorter month training programs. I didn't do like year long contracts. Do you see a lot of progress in three months?

Like I'm saying physical differences to where you're night and day a different person. Of course not. It's three months. Are you hitting little PRs? Of course. But the biggest thing is people are like, wow, like I like the gym now. I'm so happy eating X amount of carbs. I'm freaking hundreds of calories up from the first time I started. That's amazing things you can give to someone with a CPT. You don't have to be going crazy with meal plans and all this stuff.

crazy stuff that's just unnecessary. Yeah, and another thing too, kind of like going off what you said at the very beginning of that, is that you can completely tailor your roster of girls to your niche. Right. Like, Taylor's niche was just getting girls into the gym and being confident. Maybe they are in, like, the root of, like...

healthy weight gain, whatever it is. I don't think I necessarily had my own little niche of clientele. I kind of had a mix of everything. But if you have one specific spot in training with macros and all of that and getting people into the gym that you absolutely love, you're passionate about, and you can really relate with the girls with, then take that route with your roster of girls. But if you just have the general that you want to do, that's perfectly fine as well. Yeah, for example, if...

Like men's weight loss. Not something I would do. Just because it's just not. Yeah. It's just not my thing. Like I mean I could do it. Like I've talked to people in like my family about it and stuff. But it's not something I would do. I really really wanted girls that needed to like go through a reverse diet. Maybe gain some healthy weight and learn how to lift. That was my niche. And you can find yours. Like I said. Maybe it's working out at home with like limited equipment. And people in your neighborhood that are busy and don't have much time. But you want to like.

Get them moving for 30 minutes a day. You can make a career doing truly anything when it comes to fitness like that, which is so cool. And it should be enjoyable. Obviously, it's going to be work. Obviously, you're going to be giving a lot of your time to people, but it should be enjoyable. Yeah.

Like, it should be totally enjoyable. You should not feel like how Sam was literally, like, chained to a laptop and stressed every minute. Yeah. There's no reason to feel that way in such a fun job. There's no reason. Yeah. Preach. I'll...

What is she doing? She's like, what's this looking at me? Oh. But yeah, no, guys, I hope you can take a lot away from this. We will definitely be adding our resources for Ace and Nasim onto the Facebook group. So if you're not in the Facebook group already, please join it. So many of you guys have been becoming besties. I love getting tagged literally daily in groups of you guys meeting up because of it or even traveling to like Alpha Land. I've seen a lot of you guys do that already. So yeah, I hope you guys enjoyed this episode. Yeah. And do you have anything else to say?

I don't think so. Just don't get screwed over. Yeah, don't get screwed over. Girlboss vibes. Let's get it. Yeah. Okay. Bye, guys. Peace. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye.
