Klinenberg has been studying cities and climate change since the 1990s, when he published his first book, Heat Wave: A Social Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago. Klinenberg is currently leading a major research project on climate change and the future of cities. Part of this work involves a sociological investigation of Superstorm Sandy and the challenge of adapting to the emerging age of extreme, dangerous weather. “Adaptation,”) the first article from this research, appeared in the New Yorker in 2013. His most recent book is 2020: One City, Seven People, and the Year Everything Changed.
