In my podcast, I attempt to answer the question “Why should you read British
literature today?” by analyzing Angela Carter’s story “The Company of Wolves” within
her collection, The Bloody Chamber. I discuss Carter’s subversion of traditional folkloric
themes, as well as her introduction of themes of feminism and sexuality, and how
Carter’s work serves as a step toward a more modern, loose definition of British
literature. Finally, I issue a call to action and inform readers of the fluidity of literature
itself, and how they too can reclaim literature as their own.
