It's a beautiful fall day, and ninety ninety one in the town of clean taxis. In its lunch hour that afternoon, over one hundred and fifty hungry patrons made their way over to the popular restaurant chain called lubis, known for their cafeteria style comfort food. Lubis was a town favorite in cline, and on this day, everyone grabbed their food trays and made their way down the line, filling their plates.

For some people, the most trivial things on their minds were questions like, should I get match potatoes or macon and cheese? Do I want chicken or fish? Of course, none of that would matter in just a few minutes.

But after getting their meals, people took their seats around the restaurant, enjoying their food while spending quality time around the table with their loved ones. For many, IT would be their very last meal, because twelve, thirty nine, P. M, everyone's lunch was and erupted by the sound of a loud crash.

At first, most people believe that the noise had been caused by dinner place crashing to the floor, but when they looked up from their tables, they saw that a truck had crashed right through the building and was now sitting about twenty feet into the dining area. There were tables flipped over, debris covering the ground, and about a dozen glass catchup bottles had catapulted under the hood of the truck. In the seconds after the crash, everyone stood up in confusion.

Surely this was just a horrible accident. Maybe someone had a medical emergency while driving in the parking lot. But soon enough, everyone would realize that this was no accident at all, because when the dust cleared, a man emerged from the truck with two semi automatic pistol s and over the next few minutes, he would walk through the restaurant, killing as many people as he possibly could.

What IT started as a Normal, peaceful day at lubis quickly ended in chaos, in tragedy around the restaurant floor, amongst the overturn tables and plates of food, or the bodies of twenty three people, making IT one of the deadliest mass shootings in our country's history. So this is the story of the nineteen ninety one lubis massacre. I'm county bowen .

and i'm Colin Browning .

and you're listening to murder and america.

Before one thousand ninety one, many people in the new united states had never heard of clean taxes, but today some people claim that the city is cursed. Located about an hour north of Austin, the state's capital, clean is a town known for its military base. 4 hood for hood is where a number of tragedies have occurred, including the two thousand nine mass shooting, an army major murder, d people, people where raped and murdered.

And now this military base will one day have a whole episode of its own, because IT is truly wild. How many ominous things have occurred there? So much so, they actually recently changed its name from fort hood to four kaos.

But back in the ninety nineties, the town of clean had yet to be marked by any of these tragedies. And at the time, I was simply known as a military town outside of Austin, texas. The people of clean pride themselves on taking care of their community.

There are a number of parks, playgrounds and family recreation centers. They have a ton of activities from the clean radio to the multi cultural festival is also a city with four lakes where people can go camping, fishing, swimming and boating. According to the twenty twenty cents, clean has a population of around one hundred and fifty six thousand people, and a large portion of their population has a connection to the armed forces, with thousands of new military families arriving each year.

The city is known for its patriotic spirit. IT was even named the most patriotic city in taxes. And twenty, for tens of thousands of people, is a place where they are happy to call home. However, in nineteen ninety one, an unstable man by the name of George joe hinton would not only shock the nation, but leave a deep lasting effect on the people in community of clean texas.

George jail hanard, originally named George's peer hanard, was born on october fifteen thousand fifty six and sair pensylvania, his father, doctor Georgeous hander, was a swiss borne surgeon, and his mother, jana, was a homemaker and former and tea dealer. Before their marriage in the midi ties, jana had been a widow with two Young children, a and crag. But eventually Georgeous came around and he found love again.

Together, the two would have three children. The first was George, a future mass shooter born in one thousand nine hundred and fifty six. Then five years later, they would have another boy named Allen Robert.

And finally, in one thousand nine hundred sixty three, they had a daughter named the array. And from the beginning, the hands lived a very privileged life. doctor.

Georgia's henner had trained as hospital surgeon and specialized in ortho pei c. Medicine, so he made good money. Then when George was just two years old, his father joined the united state's army and served as a doctor at many army hospitals around the world.

He was an extremely intelligent man and fluent in multiple languages, including english, french, german and spanish. Now, because they were a military family, George moved around a lot as a kid. They lived in france, germany, thailand, inDiana and new mexico.

Like many military families, they would move to a city and start their lives there, only to be told that they pack up and move again to go somewhere else. In fact, by the time George was eighteen years old, he had moved a total of twelve times throughout his life. But for now, we're going to focus on his time spent in new mexico.

Their family moved there after his father was promoted to commanding officer at mecaenas army clinic at White sands missile le range near less cruise new mexico. Their home was in the middle of desert, which essentially serve this georgia's playground during his Younger years in a sibling spent their days riding dirt bikes in the desert. In the summer time when the temperatures soar, they swam at the water tank near the base. IT was about as Normal of a childhood as a military family could have, but according to neighbors, the hanard household wasn't always a safe haven.

Doctor hanard, being a military man, chose a more strict authoritarian style of parenting. He expected a lot from his children, and any time they discovered he was quick to correct their behavior with a beat. He was also very particular about cleanliness.

The kids had to pick up after themselves, make their beds in the tidy room at all times. Their home had to be a maculate. The living room was always cleaned to perfection, to the point where the children weren't even allowed to step foot in there with the rules of their home, and they abided by those rules.

As the children grew older, doctor honor was also known to be very strict about their use of phones. Each of the children had a preset time limit on their phone usage each week, and IT didn't matter if they were having the most important conversation in the world. If they went over that time limit, doctor honor would snatch the phone out of their hands and hang IT up.

Now is George and his brother Allen grew older. Their father expected even more from them. In one instance, the boys, their family dirt bikes without asking.

And in response, their father punish ed them by taking the boys to a local barber to cut all of their hair off. Now, George and Allen were very upset about this. Keep in mind, this is the nineteen sixties when long, shaggy hair was the standard.

The boys had both been trying to grow their hair out. And now, because of the dirt bike misunderstanding, her dad had cut IT all off. George was so upset about this, he ended up running away from home.

Somehow he ended up in ohio, and when his dad finally located him, he got into even more trouble. IT was reported. The doctor hanner took his own certain sculp all.

And he used IT to give George, and even worse, hair cut, where he had patches of bald spots covering his head. And George was forced to go to school like this. Now he was already a pretty shy kid who isolated himself from other people his age.

So having to walk through the junior high holes with this haircut would have been humiliating. But that was his dada's rules. You did obey. You get puni shed. There was no way around IT a well.

doctor hanard ran their home with his authoritarian parenting. His wife, johnna, was the complete opposite. SHE was known to dot on all for children, believing that they could do no wrong, which was almost needed in a household like that.

But according to the people who knew the family they are, parenting styles often clashed. However, no family is perfect, and despite everything the hand, children had good lives. They had roof over their heads, food on the table.

They had money. And at the end of the day, they were loved. By one thousand nine hundred and seventy three, IT was a junior.

IT may fill high school and lost cruise new mexico. But finding his place there wasn't very easy. He didn't have a good group of friends, and more often than not, he felt like an outcast and a owner.

But one of the neighborhood boys, tony movest an, had attempted to befriend George. They both love music, especially the banks, pink floyd, the who involved at underground. Through this shared love of music, tony asked if George wanted to be in his band.

Now throughout his life, George like to play the drums, but he wasn't very good at IT. However, tony needed a drummer for his band, and George agreed to do IT. But during the first few practices, the band quickly learned the George was not a great drummer.

Not only could he not stay on beat, but he almost seemed like he was in his own little world. IT was difficult to connect with him. So soon enough, he was kicked out of the band.

After being rejected by the local neighborhood boys, George isolated himself even further. He often SAT in his room by himself, listening to music on his headphones. His room was a place where he could escape from the rest of the world and dive into other world.

A place where he watched movies, listening to music, hung up black light posters. And surprisingly, it's also where he smoked marijuana. No, i'm not sure how he got away with that with his father, but teenagers tend to somehow make IT work.

But is around this time when George got into a really big public argument with that old friend of his named tony, the one who kicked them out of his band, according the tony, shortly after the whole band incident, George approached him and accused him of stealing his leather hat. Tony tried telling George that he didn't have his hat, but George won't listen. And from there he started going around the school telling people that tony was a thigh, that he was going to cake his us.

When tony heard about these rumors, he was shocked. He would later say that he never want, even saw this hat. And he didn't matter how many times he told George to that he wouldn't listen.

He became clear to tony and the other students at their school that George was clearly going through something. He always seemed paranoid, like people were out to get him. And then one evening, as tony and his family were getting into their car, they watched as George emerged from the darkness, and he just stood there in the street, ominously staring them down.

Tony grandmother then asked if George was okay, but in response he started screaming that he wanted to speak with tony. The look on Georgeous face was terrifying. He had bowled his hands and the fists.

There was a darkness and his eyes. Once again, George started talking about how he was going to beat tony us if he didn't give him his hat back. The interaction was clearly escalating, which made tony family uncomfortable. In fact, his father, who was a kernel in the military, told George that if he didn't back off, he would give his own sun permission to walk down there and cake his, which ultimately made George walk away.

Now nothing ever came of this incident, and afterwards the two seem to have stayed out of each other other's way. But throughout the rest of his time in school, George continue to be isolated from other kids. He just couldn't seem to get along with people.

In thousand nine hundred and seventy four, he would graduate from high school. And four months later, he decided to follow in his father's footsteps. S, and serve our country georgian listed in the united state's navy, and was a sign to the U.

S. mrs. ua. For that first year, he spent the majority of his time helping with the ships upkeep and repairs. However, George's mental instability continue to be a huge problem for him.

In november one thousand nine hundred and seventy five that we don't know exactly what he, he was all red to go before commanding officers, not judicial proceeding. Now, whatever IT was clearly wasn't serious enough for him to get trouble. Proceedings usually deal with minor things like slacking off in subordination.

Drunk and fights are even poor hygiene. IT could been anything. But the following year, in may of one thousand nine hundred and seventy six, George did get transferred to U. S. S. dixi. However, IT soon became clear to his superiors that George wasn't really cut out for the navy, according to the book titled anatomy of a massacre, George was given a review in early one thousand nine hundred and seventy seven, and at the bottom of his record is stated, not recommended for reinforcement.

In february of one hundred and seventy seven, George officially left the navy at twenty years old, but a few months later, he went back out to see with a military sea lift command, a government organization that supplies ships for the military. Nine months after working there, George transferred to the united states merchant marines, which allows everyday sailors to help work on the ships. But once again, George was struggling, defined his place there and threw out his life.

Marijuana was something that seemed to bring him comfort. On october twenty five, one thousand nine hundred eighty one, George was pulled over near the real grand border checkpoint, and he was arrested for marijuana possession. He didn't get into any major legal trouble, but it's clear that he was pretty mentally unstable around this time, because just a few weeks after his arrest, his co workers on the ship noticed a change in him.

One of the port agents, I A I R. Williams, said he was very loud, and he appeared to be combat of, at times you would come in with a very cold look and be very argumentation, loud, boisterous, sometimes cursy and swearing. But I only seemed to get worse from here.

On may twenty years, one thousand nine hundred and eighty two, George was involved in a racially charged argument with an african american crew member. According to reports, George assaulted the man and also refused to take a lawful command from the captain of the ship, which was a deal break er for them. Following this incident, George was suspended for six months, then placed on probation for an entire year.

So as you can see, George had a hard time getting along with people wherever he went. Throughout the years, his coworkers would try to befriend him, asking him questions about his family and background, but George refused to let anyone get close to him at work. He had a reputation of being a hard worker, but after getting into that heated racial argument, no one wanted to work with him anymore.

Many of his coworkers felt like they were walking on egg shells around him at any moment. George was nap, which is what a lot of people said about him throughout his life, even his old room. A man named James done, like James, would later say that when George would come home from work, he would just smoke marijuana all day and angrily played the drums for hours on end. Here is James describing the kind of person George was.

Now, luckily for George, he was making good money at his job, despite him not getting along with people, in fact, hearing about five thousand dollars a month. So with that money, he lived pretty lavishly. He bought themselves a thousand and eighty seven blue ford ranger.

He bought his mother a catalog. And when he wasn't working, George spent a lot of time traveling overseas. It's been reported that he specifically like to travel to the Philippines and thailand, and he would go there to hire e sex workers. His acai tanks would later say, quote, IT was because he could do what he liked with them, no questions, no judgment, no protest, no blind hair and and he always returned home with trinkets from his travels.

And dozens of roles of film was also known that George love to in send pedro at the specific hotel called hotel carrio, and he would always request to stay in a room two, twenty three, a room that overlooked this trash field alway. But while staying in this tell, George took an interest in one of the mates named rak l berge rak l. Will later say that George was a regular there.

Sometimes he would just stay for one night, and other times he would stay for weeks on end. Rok l. Said that George was a strange man, and IT was clear that he had a hard time speaking to women.

But any time he would come clean his room, we just intently stare at her at one point where kl asked if he had a girlfriend and he told her he didn't SHE then asked if he liked mexican girls, and he replied, quote, you're nice. I like mexican girls. I don't like american girls.

They play with your feelings. And quite now, George Kennedy was considered to be conventionally attractive. He was six one, one hundred and eighty five pounds, athletic and in a thick black hair.

Women were no doubt attracted to him. But there was also something off about him. IT was something about his eyes.

After starting a conversation with George, women couldn't help with notice that his eyes were dark and distance, almost like when he looked at you, he was looking right through you. IT was intense and unsettling. He was also said to be quiet, but not in a peaceful way.

IT was more of an uncomfortable, heavy quiet that left people feeling uneasy. Or kell berg to recall this about him too. At any time he was around him, SHE would remember what her mother told her, quote, be careful of the quiet ones, because they are the worst equal.

Many people who crossed paths with George all described him the same way, dark, distant, quiet, but also explosive and angry character traits that seem to follow him throughout his life. But the mid eighties were a particularly hard time for George, especially because his family was falling apart. Now, shortly after he had moved out of his parents home to pursue his career, his family had moved from new mexico to clean texas.

Doctor hanard had been transferred to fort hood in clean as the commanding officer at darn'd army community hospital. And upon learning that they were moving to texas, they purchased a large home in nearby belton. IT was a massive five bedroom break, colonial home built in the thousand, nine and forties.

And everyone in the area called IT, the mansion, the hours new house, really stuck out in the neighborhood as all of the other houses were smaller and more modest, but not theirs. Their mansion was beautiful, both inside and out. The interior was decorated an expensive or a queen and furnishings.

And as always, dr. dr. Hanard maintained his sense of order, with every single item being in its designated space, and everything and all times was spotless.

From the outside, looking in the hands looked like you're all american family. The father was a doctor. They had a huge home, money and the respect of their community.

But soon enough, this fact would all come crashing down. As IT turned out, doctor hanard had an affinity for a Younger women, and in thousand nine hundred and eighty three in his wife would officially divorce. In addition to this, he was also involved in a pretty big scandal.

You see, his partner at the medical facility was named dr. Or gary, and he was sent to prison for selling cocaine, and he had been involved in a wrongful death lawsuit where a person had been given blood tainted with AIDS. So following this, doctor hanard had to go before a review board where his entire career was questioned.

IT was also discovered that he had allowed unlicensed personnel to work at the clinic, so things weren't looking good for him. At the end of everything, doctor hanard was put on probation for five years, which really heard his practice. So as you can see, this was not an easy time for the hundred family. George was having to deal with the fact that his parents were divorced and that his dad's career was falling apart.

But despite everything, he kept his head down in state, focused on work. In may of nineteen and eighty nine, George got a promotion, and he started working on a ship called the Green wave. His promotion would allow him to supervise the debt crew and make sure that everyone worked to meet his standard.

But IT seems as if George got a bit too confident in his role. In fact, one night, while working on the ship, he pulled out a baggie of marijuana and rolled a joint in front of some crew members. They would later say that he was boasting about how he had smuggled drugs under the ship and how he would never get caught.

But that wouldn't be the case, because on the morning of may, elements the ships kept in marched into the cabin and began searching dorst things. And in one of georgia shoes, they found the back I of marijuana. Apparently one of the sailors had told on George from here, the coast guard was notified, and they brought georgian for an interrogation.

However, he refused to answer any of their questions about where I came from, who IT belong to, or why was on the shape. In the end, Georgeous papers were confident ted and he was forced to enter a drug treatment program and houston taxes on july fourteen, 40, eighty nine. And apparently once he was released, George and his father, doctor hanard, got into this huge falling out. Doctor Henna believe that his son with schizophrenic with a split personality disorder. However, George didn't seem to like this label, and from that moment on, his relationship with his father was strained.

On August third, George was scheduled for hearing with the administration of law judge Thomas mellifica for two charges, this conduct for iconic possession on boardwalk and use of dangerous drugs.

Under the advice of his lawyer, David moment, George admit to this wrongdoing and told the judge that he had a serious marijuana addiction that dated back to his adolescence in new mexico, stated that the only time he didn't want to use drugs was when he was out to sea, and that being caught with IT on the Green wave was a blessing in disguise. George said that when he was caught, he was at that moment that he realized he had a serious problem. He said, I can continue using drugs or continue sAiling.

It's either or i'd be of more use out there working on those ships than here beached with other thing to do, to do anything if I can continue to sell. Two and a half months later, George miglia officially ruled on the matter and decided that George joe henner would never say again in certificate licenses, and the documents for sAiling would all be revoked. However, George would not go to jail or pay a fine, and the entitled would never go on any permanent criminal record. And ultimately the case would be sealed forever. But those who knew George personally would later say that this decision was the beginning of his downfall.

Following this, in one thousand nine and eighty nine, George moved to a small apartment in Austin, texas. IT was no money coming in. He was forced to work on jobs.

He tried working as a steam cleaner and a carpenter. But these new careers were always short lived. IT was difficult for him to go to work, to stay motivated.

And soon enough, he started draining his savings account. George was extremely depressed during this time. Working out at sea was the one thing he was good at.

IT was his whole identity, and now IT was gone. Eventually he answered an ad in the newspaper for a local bond who needed a drummer. So one afternoon he met up with them at a rehearsal studio called the crows nest.

Now the keyboard is Frank. Laslo would later say that George wouldn't have been their first pick, but they were desperate for drama, so they hire him on. But almost immediately they too noticed that something was off with him.

George would often said by himself, refusing to interact with anyone, and they said that he was especially weird around females. However, they did take note. The George often frequented a massage parlar on I thirty five in the suspect that he was going there to receive sexual favors.

It's been said by many people who knew George that he often hire the sex workers. So it's safe to say that that's what he was doing here. But interestingly, George opened up to his band members about how he had placed a personal ad in the Austin chronical who to find a female companion.

He was disappointed that only one girl had responded to IT, and he was White. George was an ender. White woman now was ban me to later say the George was.

He did be aggressive and was constantly complaining about everything. He like to talk badly about the people in their community calling everyone hicks. They also said that he was paranoid.

At times on some days, George would come in and talk to his band mates about how people in town were spying on him in preventing him from getting a job. And he made IT clear that he would one day be a sailor again. He told his bandmates that despite the judge's ruling, he was going to appeal IT. And soon enough, George truly thought that he was only a matter of time until he was back out at sea for work.

Georgeous ban mate said that he was sort of a true crime enthusiast. He would often sit in his apartment smoking weed, watching shows like america's most wanted in unsaved mysteries for hours on end. They also said that when he found a song he liked, he would play a non stop.

One in particular that George would listen to on repeat was the one nine hundred seventy six hit by steel dan called don't take me alive. The lyrics were dark. They described the story of a future ative who had been caught in a standoff with law enforcement.

The protagonist of the song refuses to surrender and even threatens to use dynamic if anyone tries to capture him. Now this song was very popular at the time, and when George discovered IT, he immediately wanted to play IT for his band. The keyboard is Frank laslo said. The George rushed over to his place and played the song five times in a row, and although Frank did like the beat, he didn't understand why George was so obsessed with IT. In hindsight, ts IT seems as if the lyrics may have resonated with him.

Another odd counter was when the two men were driving in Georgeous ford ranger on the radio was a broadcast about the serial killer, ted bundy. Frank, with leaders, say that he made a comment about how many women bundy had murdered. And George surprisingly came to bundy's defense.

He told Frank that he shouldn't be quick to judge someone and that maybe ted had a good reason for why he murdered the people. Now, at first, fring thought he was joking. Surely no one would actually think that.

But George was dead serious. He truly simplified with serial killer ted bundy. Frank said that he was appalled. And not long after this, George would leave their behind for good, because in nineteen ninety, George's brother in law, James shelling barger, would offer him a job opportunity doing construction in south dakota. James knew that George fAllen on hard times, and he wanted to help him out, so he offered him the job. And with nothing else going for him, George decided to take IT.

The construction project was scheduled to run through the entire summer of ninety ninety. But as soon as George arrived in south dakota immediately started having problems with people. He was the kind of employee who complained, any chance he could, and sometimes he would just flat out refused to work.

But since he was family, his brother in law, James, who got him the jobs, said that no one on the site like him. But since he was family, he was constantly making excuses for George. But by the end of August, one hundred and ninety, James two had had enough them.

Apparently James had asked George if he could start to clean up at one of their sites and George refused to do IT. The then got into an argument, or George told his brother in long to fuck off. And before they knew IT the two, we're physically fighting each other in front of the entire construction crew. Following, George got into his car and drove all the from south dakota to his mother's house. And herman.

when George showed up at his mom's store step, SHE welcomed him with open an arms. Giano always loved her children, and more than anything, he wanted them to be happy. And in her opinion, George just needed a woman in his life.

So SHE actually set him up with one of her coworkers at a el salon. Her name was judy appear, and he was excited to get to no, George. The two would go on a few dates, but in the beginning shouldn't think they were a great fit.

Judy would later say that George was kind of awkward, and he could tell that he wasn't very confident around women, but he decided to give him another chance. Eventually, to her surprise, he actually started to loosen up maybe a little too much. Judy said that when George drink, he became a completely different person.

The alcohol made him a bit aggressive at one point during a date, the topic of marriage came up. George asked duty how many times he had been married, and SHE was honest. SHE told him he had been married twice before, but that they just didn't work out.

But as he is saying all of this, George is just kind of staring blindly ahead. He then broke his silence by saying, I think i've gonna marry this Young woman in belton, texas. I've never matter, but SHE lives down the street from my daddy's.

Upon hearing this, judie was shocked. SHE enjoys had been on several dates now. And here he is talking about marrying this woman in texas that is never even met. On another occasion, judy were called that while they were playing pool, George told her that the police had been following him and preventing him from getting a job. So naturally, judy asked why he thought that, and he gave her a really bizarre story.

George said that while he was living in taxis, he ran into this house on the lake, and neighborhood kids would sometimes come over and watch him play the drums. But he said that eventually the police god involved, because they thought he was sexually abusing the children. Now in our research, I wasn't able to confirm if that story was true, but IT seems strange that George would make IT up.

And these weren't the only red flags that judy noticed throughout her time with George. SHE also got to see the way he treated his mother, Diana. According to duty, he would often scream in his mother's face, calling her a bitch. The violent output came out of nowhere. Eventually, Georgeous behavior was too much for judy, and he decided to call things off cording .

to George's family. He was also known to run just about every holiday. During Christmas of one thousand nine hundred ninety Georgeous half sister carla had gotten him a pair of sunglasses for his Christmas present and upon opening looked at and said, I don't like this.

Taking a back by his comment, parler said that he could take them back and exchange them for another pair before whatever reason this made George angry, he started raising his voice at her, saying, why would you even byme sunglasses in the first place from here? George's mom stepped in and represented him for being so rude. And in response, George got into his truck and peeled out of the parking line.

He decided at that moment that he was going to spend Christmas, said his dad. Mention instead, at that point, E N. Doctor hennys still had a strained relationship, but at least he enough to be around for his mom and have a sister anymore.

Now the mansion and belton, texas had been in their family for years, but doctor hanard was waiting to sell IT after his messy divorce with jana. IT was too expensive to hold onto, so George actually offered to help clean up the property before they put IT up for sale. For months, George work tirelessly cleaning things up around the property, and when he wasn't working on the house, he was often seen shirtless, washing his blue ford ranger in the front yard, the postman and the neighborhood.

George recoat z stated he was a working holic. He was always doing something. And perhaps George worked hard to maintain the property because he had other pressing things on his mind.

February six, one thousand nine hundred ninety one, he had received word from his attorney that despite his appeals, the court struck by their ruling in his one thousand nine hundred eighty nine case involving that marijuana. He smugger aboard the ship. Meanwhile, George would never officially step foot on another sAiling vesle again.

George was incredibly depressed to hear this news. He truly believed he could fight this and what one day get to do what he loved again. But that dream was over for him.

To George. This news was just confirmation that he was being spied on and that someone out there was preventing him from success. He was growing more and more paranoid, and he wanted to be able to protect himself just in case these people ever tried to come for him.

And then just twelve days later, George, on advertisement for a gun store in hinder, nevada, I was called mike gun house. Now, mike gun house wasn't your typical gun shop. In fact, the owner, mike dona, who sold all of his guns right out of his house that he shared with his family.

But on this day, George walked right in and told mike that he wanted to purchase a firearm. However, he wasn't exactly sure what kind he wanted, so I gave him a recommended, and he pulled out A A nine millimeter pistol that is considered safe, easy and quick. The magazine held seventeen rounds.

Eighteen of one is already loaded in the chAmber. And with that, George was sold. Olia deal was hand over four hundred and twenty dollars cash his navajo vers license and fill out some paperwork.

Interestingly, one of the questions he was asked on the paperwork was whether or not he was addicted to marijuana, the presence, stimulants or any other controlled substances. George happily checked. no.

But obviously that was a lie. No one, Peter George channel, had a clean record. The one criminal case against him was sealed, so he was able to easily purchase the god that day.

However, the owner of the shop, mic dona hill, would later say that he felt like something was off with George, though he couldn't quite put a finger on what IT was, and to his surprise, just a few weeks later, George would come back to his store to purchase another gun, this time a stainless steel rugger p. Eighty nine. Now, this gun wasn't as powerful as the block, but George, like that IT too, could hold a lot of bullets in his chAmber.

Something about not having to reload the gun fascinated him. So that day he hand over for three hundred and forty five dollars for the second pistol. He now had both of the guns that he would later use in the lubis. My shooting a few .

months later, on june first thousand nine hundred ninety one, George loaded up his blue ford ranger with his drum set, A A loaded glock seventeen, a loaded rugger eighty nine and a case of Miller high life. From there he drove down to the lake meat recreation area outside of hender, nevada. Is motivation for this trip was simply to get away frustrated? Once he arrived, he set up his drum set and began to play for an invisible crowd.

Then when he was finished, he set up his beer cans and practice shooting them with his new guns. He wanted to feel the weapons out to see how I felt to shoot them. He was pleasantly surprised that how easy IT felt are quickly the bullets came out.

IT was everything he wanted. At seven thirty P. M. George returned to his pickup truck on the shoulder of hemingway access road and casually drank his beer on the side of the road.

Eventually, he drank so much that he drunkenly passed out in the driver seat. Soon after, a party range, or named Charles trail sm, switched over at the wheel, and he approached his vehicle. Now when George sam at his driver side window, he sobered up very quickly, roll down his window.

Charles then asked George if he had been drinking, to which George said, I can say from there he was given a field, a brighter test, which he ultimately failed. In addition to that, the officer also found his two loaded guns in the vehicle. So with that, George was taken to the last vegas st.

Detention center. Along the drive to jail, George continued to mumble odd things in the back seat, including a comment that to get him officer, the trial asked him to repeat himself. And George stated, I think, throughout, to get me female, White woman, to get me it's a conspiracy.

The officer likely played office, some drunk gambling in the back seat. And from there George was booked into the detention center. Luckily for him, his mom was able to post his bond as well as retrieve his truck in his two guns.

Now Georgeous hearing for this incident was scheduled for july eighth nineteen ninety one, but George decided that he was going to be proactive. On june, faith George arrived at the FBI federal office building on Charleston, bullivant, in loss figures. He was there to file a civil rights complaint soon after he SAT down with an agent to go over this complaint.

And according to them, he just started rambling on and on about his entire life story, being raised in a military family that moved around a lot, growing up in new mexico, being honorably dish charge from the navy, so on and so on. Eventually the rambling went on. For so long, the agents had to stop him mid senate and asked what the nature of his complaint was.

George shifted in a seat, and he thought for a moment before bluntly stating, quote, my civil rights have been violated by a secret group of White women. They've gotten together to form a conspiracy against me. They are preventing me from dating other women.

And, quote, the agent was intrigued to hear this bizarre claim. And George continued saying, quote, they spread stories. They tell girls I have a bad attitude about women that they shouldn't date me.

These White women have followed me around the country. They spy on me and tap my phone. I can't get work because they call my employers and say negative things about me and go.

The agent could clearly tell that George was paranoid, but IT was his duty to hear him out. So we asked him, have you ever actually seen any of these women following you? To which George said, yes, they stand in front of my car when I tried to drive.

George also admitted that the conspiracy y to ruin his life was new and that he hadn't always had problems with women, saying, quote, in fact, when I was overseas, I had no trouble with girls there. You know, his spending s nice girls, pretty girls. They weren't stuck up.

We'd get along great. So the agent asked if we had any names of the women that were following him in. George said, no. He also asked if George chat list of businesses where he had applied for work.

The agent said that he was going to call these businesses to see if there were indeed women targeting him, but of course, George could not remember any of them. So with no solid evidence in the Georgeous claims, the asian bluntt told him that there was not enough evidence to prove that his civil rights have been violated. Defeated, George channel walked out of the office, and IT should come as no surprise that George was clearly struggling with some sort of mental health issues.

Perhaps the agent that they notice this, perhaps he didn't. But in hindsight, George was desperately needing help, and he was needing surveilLance, because soon enough, everyone in amErica was about to know his name. However, today he was just the strange, paranoid man. Lot women were out to get him.

The links aren't the description of this shall and you can find IT on apple podcast spotify or get your podcasts. And now let's get back to our story. Unbeknown ns to everyone, George was also a stocker remembers how he had told judy, the girlfriend of his, that he wanted to marry that girl from texas that he had never even met.

Well, for the past few years he'd been spying on his neighbors and belton jane bug in her two daughters, nineteen year old Janet journegan and twenty three year old jill frits. For whatever reason, George had been fixated on the two daughters for years. And every time he came back to button on leave, he would watch them obsessively tracking their routes.

In his own twisted mind, George believed that the girls belong to him. Interesting ly, both jail and jane fit the very description of the White woman that he hated, blond, blue eye and american. And eventually he decided to write the girls a letter. In his mind, the letter could put an end to these White women conspiring against them.

So that day, George SAT down and wrote a five page letter. And when he was finished, he mailed IT to gene bug, the mother of the two girls in his neighborhood. However, he accidentally wrote down the wrong address, and the letter ended up in the mailbox of genes neighbor the weather friends on the day in question the weather first to open up this strange letter, and began to read IT.

Now, interestingly, George had forgotten the name of jane, two daughters, Janet and jail. And in the letter, he mistakenly referred to them as Robin and Stacy. Coincidently, the weather friends had a teenage daughter, knew stc spell, just like George hat retina. But here is what the letter said, dear, stay, see.

And Robin, surprise, surprise. And I guess who this is writing to you? Well, just take a look at the enclosed pictures to help you figure IT out there for you and your sister Robin, and ever did learn her name for sure. Believe IT or not.

To this day, six, six ninety one, not one single person has ever come forward and volunteered one bit of information that would help me lead to your capture one day before I left texas to return the lost vegas and all of its hassles I saw in the temple telegram, your picture and impressive accomplishments is your sister of the same calibre. I hope so. The thing that immediately came to my mind was that you're a senior in high school, then realized that the mystery of what the problem was had been, or was finally solved after three and half years.

Think back now, dc, to january thirty, first thousand nine hundred eighty eight, the night that kell part, my main men and rush played down in hostin. I remember seeing two Young girls and their mother passed by me twice in a little town combat car. But what's going on here?

I thought to myself, oh my god, I was looking at two sisters, was IT only in just fifteen to seventeen years old at the time. I can promise you, I had no idea of your Young ages and the fact that I had just stepped into a legal twilight zone, my goodness, I must admit, being truly flatter known. I have two teenage group y fans, but I, unfortunately, mommy tear had strong reservations about me.

Maybe your mother saw me is the wolf in and sheep clothing, or SHE afraid I would act responsibly with her two precious little gems and then run and hide. Your mother made a miscalculation in her. There is no place to run and hide dinner now.

I worked in sell on ships for fourteen years when there was a problem, conflict to crisis. No place to hide from IT on a ship. We all just try to correct IT or sit and write IT out.

You think they say, someday, sooner than later, you, me and your gorgeous sister could meet up somewhere, sit down and have a long talk. Would there be any harm in that? It's face that we go to ourselves to with these, get acquainted and the three of us find out who and what we are.

Believe me, make communication very easy. The hard part may come afterwards. You are both different, talented. That's why you come my interest and still hold a regardless of what went down during the past three, five years, no doubt your father may be annoyed and anger the way I screamed at him the last night.

And government, that's fine with me, unlike his tactics and ever any time told him he could not won, knocked on my front door to talking, get a quaint two, send me an invitation through the male inviting me to pay you and your family of visit three, call me on the telephone and say, let's have a talk and office enough now his routine method leads nowhere. There was a dead end from they want, excuse me. But both your parents are so facial and nebulous about what their intentions are that I got disgusted and focused on one person.

Your sister then do a bit of good though. okay. So now what do you and your family wanted do? The question begs itself, did you and your sister find yourselves new flames yet? You think the three of us can get together someday? Please give me the satisfaction of someday laughing in the face of all those mostly White trench female fibers from those two towns who tried to destroy me in my family, who is very ironic about baLance taxes, I found the best and worst women there.

You insist you on the one side, and then the abundance of evil women that makeup the worst on the other side. I would like to personally remind all those fibers that I have civil rights too, just because I did hire an attack y to enforce my civil rights does not mean that they have car bunged to do whatever they want. In violation of these rights, I will, no matter what prevail over the female vibrating in those two rinking dig towns and texas, I will prevail in the, in conclusion, I ask you do not disclose the contents of this letter to anyone other than immediate family members.

IT is, no one else is business, but hours. anyways. I hope that U.

N. Robin will right soon till acknowledge your city of this letter. Now it's here to and to respond.

Remember, from this day on, no more talk of rejection. Slider to seed of the truth is now in writing. Peace sisters, love you both. George, your fan PS, how about sending me your nice pictures?

So as you can see, George Kennedy was clearly not doing very well. Not only did that letter not make any sense, but I just kind of rambled on and on. Then after writing IT, he truly thought I would be a good idea.

Descended IT to these Young girls. Now, on the back of the letter, George stated that he could be located at his mother's apartment and hinder nevada, and he provided the address phone number. And then for weeks, he waited by the phone and checked his male box daily, waiting for their reply.

However, IT obviously never came. George was frustrated. He even thought about calling their home, but before he did, he double checked the address.

He sent the letter too, and that's when he realized he got their address wrong upon scene. This George was relieved. It's not that the girls were ignoring his advances.

They just never got his letter. So from here he decides to just pick up the phone in place the call to gene buck, the girl's mom. However, no one answered, so he loved the voice male.

Later that day, nineteen year old geno was the first one home as her mom was still at work. In light clock work, he walked inside, put her stuff down and hit the play button on the answering machine. Soon enough, SHE heard the voice of a man that SHE didn't recognize and know.

You're going to think that this is funny, but there is been a terrible mistake. Just an awful mix up. There was a letter that was male or next door neighbors by mistake. We've got to set this right. This is a mess, just a terrible mess, a mess.

Upon hearing the message, Jenna was immediately frightened. Something about the way he spoke sounded so frantic and unstable, so SHE immediately called her mom's office to let her know about the strange voice male. At first, her mother, jean believe that I had to have been the wrong number.

SHE tried reassuring her daughter that was probably a misunderstanding, but Jenna sounded scared so much. So jane decided to come home immediately and hear the voice male for herself. And when they did, both jane and gene made their way over to their neighbor's house to see if they had gotten that strange letter that the man was talking about.

And sure enough, they had, ultimately, the letter was given a gene, and he went home to read every page. And when he got to the end of IT, SHE was terrified. The writings were very scattered.

But I was clear that whoever wrote IT was extremely unstable. And not only was this man sending the male, but now he's leaving voice mails on the answering machines. This was every mother's worst nightmare.

Jane also studied the picture that the man had included in the letter, and SHE immediately recognized him as the man who would work in the yard, at the mansion, down the street. After coming to this realization, jean was now shaking with anger. This wasn't some weirdo in town.

He was their neighbor, a neighbor that they had never even spoken to. Jane also said that they never attended that rush concert in one hundred and eighty eight, like he said in his letter, which was even more scary. He was clearly creating these stories and his head that were entirely false. So immediately jane decided to call the phone number that was listed on the last page of the letter.

If George wanted a response out of this, then by god, he was going to get one after a few rings, George quickly answered the phone, and as soon as he did, jane started screaming ing SHE skilled at him for writing this letter to her daughters and told him to never contact them again. Don't call them, don't look at them, don't write to them, he said. SHE continued by saying that he needed help and that if he contacted them again, he would get the police involved.

Surprisingly, George was extremely apologetic, and he promised to leave them alone. He even asked for forgiveness. But with that, jane hung up the phone. Following this call, George was getting increasingly upset.

This is not how this was supposed to go, but with nowhere to direct his anger, he decided to call the weather friends who he accidentally send the letter to. Upon answering, George screamed to them, it's your fault letter. You did IT you poison their minds about me, he said.

After this phone call, the weather friends immediately went next door to tell jane about what happened. And it's here where gene decided go to the police. He ended up meeting with chief of detectives capt.

In seasonal cosy but believe IT or not when captain cos er read the letter, he didn't think he was very alarming. He told jane, that is just a guy that has a crush on your daughters. Just stay away from him, he said.

Jane loved the police station that day feeling defeated. SHE knew within her heart that this man was dangerous, but apparently the police didn't agree, and nothing ever came from this incident. The one thing that brought them comfort was that George was staying in a hinder sa far away from jane and her daughters, but to her dismay, George would soon make his way back to his father's mansion.

Fixing things up before the house was due to hit the market that August. For weeks, jane felt on edge, seeing George out in the driveway as if nothing happened. But unfortunately, there was nothing he could do. Now.

once George made the trip to texas, he continued writing in his journal about jane and her two daughters, but he often used code words when he talked about them, calling them the family of snakes and rats, also wrote about the town of milton itself saying, and they shall live with what they have created. Curse on belt and the button police department is the most worthless bunch of bastard I ever saw. Downstairs in the T.

V. Room, George kept the shrine of his favorite videos, militaria Moore history, the vietnam conflict and one video cott titled murder in the U. S. A. He also recorded segments of unsolved mysteries, rescue nine one 1 and an information horror ilm called faces of death, which showed people dying and grow some ways. George also specifically recorded segments on serial killers, including hardly lucas and James all over huge.

Interestingly, James Oliver hubert I had committed one of the worst mass shootings in history when he shot up a mcDonald's restaurant and killed twenty one people in sanaa, california, in one thousand and eighty. We actually covered that story in episode fifty of our podcast, but the fact that he was interested in that story when he, too, would one day shoot up a restaurant is iry, to say the least. Clearly, George was a taking time ball, and the only person who seemed to know this was jane bug down the street following the incident with George shopping thought about his omid threats, how his letter said, I will prevail in the bitter end.

Jane believe that George meant harm either to her or her girls or someone else. But luckily for her, he was finally able to feel a sense of peace. In july of one thousand hundred and ninety one that week, George left the mention to go on vacation in pana.

So for the time being, jane, her girls didn't have to worry about seeing him around their. Now remember George's brother in law, James, they got him that construction job and south the kota. Well, by this point, the two and ended their relationship.

And after George's vacation, James picked them up from the airport. And like anyone, wood, once George gone to the car, James asked, I was your trip. But George did not seem happy.

He told James that his pana trip had been completely ruined because the police were tAiling him the entire time. Now James knee of Georgeous passed, so he asked him, but they following you because you were doing drugs or something. But George said no, all he knew was that the police for following him and that his phone mines had been tapped, which clearly was in the case. George was falling deeper and deeper into the paranoia and mental health struggles.

But soon after this, he would return back to the mansion in belton, texas, and he was devastated to see that there was a for sale sign in the front yard. Now, George had been working on the home for a while now, getting IT ready to sell, but singing the sign in the yard meet. All the more real for George, the manchin was his home, and he was angry at his father for wanting to sell IT.

So IT was at this moment when he decided that he was going to do everything in his power to stop IT from selling his dada's relater. Susan washburn eventually started showing the home, and George would go out of his way. Satish, her showing.

In one instance, he took a key from her so that he couldn't get inside. But even more alarming was the time that he ordered her inside the home. George began interrogating Susan about how many women SHE was letting into the house.

He clearly had a lot of paranoia surrounding female. From that moment on, George would intimidate potential buyers by either following them around the house during the showing, or he would just stand outside of the windows and stare at them. He also wouldn't let anyone inside of his bedroom because he said he add self defense weapons.

George's behavior was alarming. Unfortunately for him, no one placed any offers on the mansion that summer. By september of one thousand and ninety one, George was still living at the manchin, which was a nightmare for jane bag and her two daughters living down the street. The oldest daughter, jana, had been taking classes at mary harden bailer. And every evening when he would drive by the on her way home, he felt a huge wave of fear.

While over her the mansion was always dark, and George's blue ford rather was always parked right out front, letting them know that he was still around but on this day when Janet drove by, George seem to have been watching because soon enough, SHE saw the heads lights to his truck flashing in her direction. Jana immediately felt her heart beating fast. Was he giving her a warning? SHE quickly made her way home, convincing herself that he was just a but the following day on our way home from our classes, IT happened again like clock work.

As SHE drove by the manchin, the headlights to Georgeous truck flashed in her direction. Horrifically, this became a pattern. Over the next few weeks, George seemed to have studied in a schedule, and every day he would send her this omi signal on our way home.

Sadly, his behavior would only get worse from here after a few weeks of flashing his headlights of gena, George began running to the end of his driveway when he saw her car coming down the street. And as he drove past, you would just stand there for rentals waving at her. Jane, Jenna and jane felt incredibly safe in their own neighborhood.

This road, the very road where they grew up and build their lives, now felt hostile. But without the hope of the beltin police department. Gene and her two daughters had no choice but remain prisoners in their own home.

Now, due to George's military background in training, he maintained a strict discipline schedule. Every morning of five thirty A M, he would ride his bike down to the leon heights convenient store that was owned by the meat family. And once there, he would always buy the same thing in orange juice, sausage, biscuit, donuts and a newspaper.

But George didn't just do his business and then come home like his s many locals hated to see him coming down the road. He was common for George to start arguments with women in town. He would yell up, is that women for absolutely no reason at all? Sometimes he would even spin on their cars.

One morning, when he arrives at the convenience store, this lady was in front of him riding out a check, and he physically pushed her out of the way, slam his solo down on the counter and demanded to be checked out. Now the owner of the store was an elderly woman named mary meat. And SHE would later ecolodge how horrible Georgeous behavior was, saying he didn't apologize.

You say, excuse me or nothing, you just push her out of the way. Paid is bill and left. He acted like he hated everybody. Mary was at a loss on how to handle this one really customer SHE knew he had the right to refuse him service, but he was scared of what he might do one morning. He even threatened her, saying this time to Better stop messing with me and my family, or something terrible is going to happen little than anyone know. George would soon make do on this promise.

Back at the mansion, George started becoming even more unhit. When little kids would ride bikes passed his house, he would draw rocks at them. Sometimes he would even chase them down the street, spraying them with his garden hose.

George's brother in law James would later say that he would sometimes yellow crude reMarks to the Young girls that walked by. Now we don't know exactly what he was saying to these Young girls, but IT was bad enough that his brother and all cover. By october of one thousand ninety one, George handel was more paranoid than ever.

He was fully convinced that everyone was buying on him, even his own family members. And I was around this time when George confided in his brother in law that he wanted to take his own life, but James was quick to tell him not to. He jokingly told him that he had to stay alive to keep aggravating people.

On october fifteen th, George celebrated his thirty fifth birthday, but there is really nothing to celebrate. He had no career, no aspiration, no wife, no children. And George felt like a complete failure to make himself feel Better.

He read inscription he had written on a deck calendar that said, i'm not animal nor my number. I am a human being, feelings and emotions. He also decided to treat himself to dinner that night at a local restaurant called Franks the no, and turn around snacks.

He ordered a burger and fries and set at a circular table near the snack bar. That evening, he casually at his meal and watch the news where he saw professor and need to hill speaking out about a sexual harassment claim against supreme cord nominee current Thomas. Angrily, George threw his half at and hamburger at the television and screen.

You don't bitch now, you bastards. To open her for all the women, the manager of the restaurant, bill stringer, heard the commotion out in the dining room, told George that kind of language was not permitted. George not didn't eventually went back home.

But it's around this time when bell county was gearing up for a big celebration called bosses day, where employees get together to celebrate their bosses who have treated them well. 点 赞。 Lubis cafeteria and clean taxis have been advertising for the event all week, inviting people to come down with them on the joyous occasion, which brings us to wednesday on tober sixteen s ninety ninety .

one that morning at five thirty A M, George rode his bike to the leon height convenient store, like he dead every morning. And from there he casually browse the IOS and grabbed his usual one orange juice, a box of donuts, a sausage biscuit in a newspaper. However, for whatever reason, he also decided to grab Candy bar, likely because he knew he would be his last day on earth.

The owner, mary me, was at the register when George walked up with his items. SHE grabbed each one and ran IT up, anxiously waiting for him to make an off the wall comment like he always did. But luckily for her, George was actually in a good mood.

He told him his total three dollars and thirty seven cents. But when George reached into his pockets, he started laughing. He told mary that he forgot to bring his money with him.

He then asked if he could take the items back home and that later that afternoon he would come back to pay her. No, mary didn't like the guy, so Normally he would have said no. But considering George was in a good mood today, SHE agreed to his request.

And from there he jumped on his bicycle with this food road back to the mansion. As mary watched him, he thought about how strange IT was. The George handel, the man who was always so hostile, was walking around with a pip step.

What was he so happy about what the community of clean taxi was about to find out? Once back at the mansion, George SAT down at his desk and began writing a letter to his sister. Does aray IT read the following?

Does a right and closes one hundred dollars to cover the water and electric bill? Do not pay the phone bill i'm responsible in southwestern involve violated my privacy rates. Therefore they don't get paid the what the people in this town town get you like they have done to me.

Take care yourself and be strong. Love you, brother joe. joe.

In this letter, George wrote about not paying the phone company because he believed that they had been tapping his phone. Yet another sign of his extreme paranoia. George, joe henner truly believe that everyone was out to get him.

And the reason he was so happy today was because he was going to put a stop to that once and for all. After writing this letter, George put on a White t shirt that read ford. The heartbreak of today's shover lay IT was a node, this precious blue ford ranger, which he was about to use in the attack.

George then put on a pair of stone wash jeans and a turkey but and up shirt, a dorn with color full flowers. He then forced a leather belt around his waste could a watch around his rest, and then staff ed four preloaded nine millimeter magazines of ammunition and do his pockets with his glock seventeen and rugger p. Eighty nine fully loaded George chat, a total of nearly one hundred rounds of ammunition at his disposal, he was fully ready for what was to come.

And with that, at eleven fifty A. M, he walked out of the mansion and got into his truck. For the very last time.
