The wellness industry grew due to increased focus on health and well-being post-pandemic, an aging population, and heightened attention to mental health. The broad definition of wellness also includes sectors like tourism and real estate, contributing to its $6.3 trillion valuation.
Markets saw a surge in 'Trump Trades,' with shares of Trump Media surging by 34%. Tesla stock also rose nearly 14% due to expectations of Elon Musk's prominent role in the administration. Additionally, Bitcoin reached an all-time high, and the U.S. Dollar strengthened against major economies' currencies.
A second Trump administration is expected to terminate the Inflation Reduction Act, which has spurred significant private investment in the U.S. energy sector. Trump's policies could halt offshore wind projects and reduce incentives for electric vehicles, potentially shifting investments towards fossil fuels.
Retailers are adopting self-service unlock technology to combat theft while improving customer convenience. Traditional security measures have led to customer frustration and loss of sales, with up to two-thirds of shoppers not seeking assistance to unlock cases and over half opting to shop elsewhere.
Prediction markets, like those on sites like Polymarket, were more accurate than traditional polls in predicting Trump's victory. These markets provided a more reliable indicator of election outcomes, attracting significant betting and attention as an alternative to mainstream media.
Bernie Marcus co-founded Home Depot, revolutionizing the home improvement landscape by cutting out middlemen and offering low prices directly from manufacturers. His leadership as the company's first CEO helped grow Home Depot into the largest home improvement retailer in the world.
Palantir's Q3 earnings showcased strong AI demand, with U.S. revenue growing 44% year-over-year. CEO Alex Karp's bold statements about the company's AI capabilities were backed by substantial financial growth, positioning Palantir as a key player in the AI industry.
Good morning, bird daily show. I'm your frame and I tell me how today we have a winner in the presidential election, Donald trump is headed back to the White .
house then how markets are reacting to the incoming administration. It's when the day november six, let's ride.
Former president trump can soon drop the former about a half hour go at around five thirty am eastern time, news outlets projected that he was elected as the forty seventh president of the united states in a historic political comeback. It's an unprecedented, nearly unprecedented Victory at seventy eight. Trump is the oldest person ever to win the us. Presidential election. He's the first president in one hundred and thirty two years since grow or cleveland to serve two non consecutive terms in office, and he is also the first president, current or former, to be convicted of crimes.
And we will dig into all the results in all the reactions from markets in just a bit. But first, a word from our sponsor, yahoo finance. He admits all the uncertainty of election night. It's great to have a partner like yahoo finance.
They can help you cut through all the noise so you can make sense of a volatile time for stocks. Maybe it's reading a new story. You're digg into some of their analyst ratings, whatever you need there, a trusted place to navigate the market right now.
You yeah and I can feel like a rocky time for you and your portfolio, but yahoo finance can help you find that stable ground. By getting you the new in real time market data, you need to make the best decisions possible. So how do yahoo finance dot com to see more of what they have to offer?
Okay, let's dive into the results of this election and what I could mean for business and the economy. As we record this at six am etern, trump has one, two hundred and seventy seven electoral votes, putting him over the two hundred and seventy threshold needed to win. Kala Harris, a democrat, has two hundred and twenty four.
SHE was aiming to become the first woman president of the united states. But like clearly, clinton, before her in twenty sixteen, lost to trump. Polls show this race a coin flip, but in the end trump a blanket of the map in red.
He won key swing states including pensylvania a georgia, north CarOlina, and was with some close races like arizona and michigan left to be called. In the coming days, pundits will analyze this race to death to trying to explain what went so right for trump and so wrong for Harris, because this was a clear cut Victory as they come. Here is a crazy stat.
According to CNN, there wasn't a single county in the U. S. Where Harris outperform biden in twenty twenty by three percent or more before the race was officially called, trump gave a Victory speech in palm beach, florida, where he pledge to fix everything about our country.
He also offered plenty of praise for his supporter, elon musk, the space sex and Tessa C. E. O, who is poised to have a prominent role in a second trump administration to me, what has been the markets .
response to this? Yeah, so the trump trades have been doing very well. Obviously, they are kind of tracking his election odds all evening.
Shares of trump media is a media company that he owns. Large taken we're surging a lot throughout the night day. They finished up around thirty four percent in the after hours of trading.
They fluctuated throughout the day as his election odds eb in flowed. But they settle into a nice game. As IT became clear that trump was going to win, bitcoin also surged.
Trump as promised to be this very crypto friendly, embraced the cypher community candidate. So bitcoin actually reached a an all time high crosses seventy five thousand dollar thresh hold doge coin also jumped for sixteen percent as well. That's a trade that is kind of within the the trump elon orbit, if you will. And then also the U S. Dollar jumped as well, especially compared to the currencies of several major agent economies are especially um compared to the mexican peso because the the idea is that trump is going to bring these tariff, spring these tax cuts that could potentially reignite inflation to keep borrowing costs high exactly right?
And that's why you see treasury yields Spike as well. They went up. This is about that.
Trumps policies in a second term like those terribly like a lot of deficit spending will actually reignite inflation and keep borrowing costs higher. Maybe the fed is not going to cut rates as aggressively as IT. Otherwise, another stock that we ve been watching, two is tesla.
Tesla went way up. Its stock is up nearly fourteen percent in early after hours, early morning trading, whatever you want to call IT. And that is a bet that you must will have a very prominent role in the trump administration. We don't know exactly what that's going to look like yet.
He has claimed to want to cut government regulation, cut government spending by two trillion dollars as, uh, the head of doge, the department of government efficiency and trump is expected to roll back regulations or rollback incentives that have spurred electric vehicles in your wondering ing, hey, why is that good for tesla? Will tesla is the market leader? So perhaps by rolling back and centres for other evs, my benefit big banks .
are also another potential winter under a trump presidency. He's expected to maybe pursue a little bit lighter regulatory stds for banks. So that means maybe blocking some the new requirements, including those increased capital requirements that were proposed under those bozzle three uh n game uh regulations that we have talked about.
So you saw shares in jp Morgan chase take higher after hours. Bank of amErica as well. Well, as far go, all were up in that seven to eight percent range this morning.
Let's sum out to the entire stock market, one thing to remember that is that the stock market does tend to just consistently go up even across different administrations. If you start at november first of each election year and you go through october thirty first, four years later, the average index Price return is a humanity thirty four percent. So the joke is that stocks go up, and IT does kind of tracing back over to one thousand and twenty eight. You do see that across a wide span of administration, right.
and are surging. This morning, the dow is up over eleven hundred points as investors digest what a second trump administration might mean for the markets. One industry we would talk about a lot of financial corporate winners.
That's because prompt administration is expected to roll back regulations. But one, one industry that is expected to sort of lose a lot of funding and not do well at all is clean energy member. The by administration did this massive inflation reduction act, which spurred four hundred and fifty billion dollars in private investment that float into the U.
S. Energy sector since I was passed in twenty two. Well, trump wants to terminate the inflation reduction act is going to stop offshore wind projects pledge on day one if we elected, those offshore wind projects are very exceptio to who is president because they have to give out permits. And trump has just said that, you know, trump is not does not believe in climate change. That is a big issue at all, renewable energy, clean energy, definitely a big loser as a result .
of this election. And then conversely, a try presidency could boost things like industrial manufacturers, fossil fuel companies as well because if those um investments flow out of Green energy, they will probably flow into supporting things like the fossil fuel industry. One other big winner from last night was prediction markets.
Uh, this election was a massive win for the prediction markets, things that allowed you to bet on presidential election on site like cosi poy market predicted, while polls going into election definitely showed this essentially a toss up, the race was essentially a toss up. Prediction markets all kind of giving some hints that there was more of a delta between trump in Harris. Then maybe the polls were showing and they seem just to be a little bit of head of the curve all night as votes started to come in around seven, eight, nine, pm, you could see a huge jump in trumps odds on things like coffee, on things like poly market.
And people started gravitating towards of those sites rather than the traditional media outlets like the new times in that we spoke about to see kind of what the the general direction of the election was heading. And IT looked like they were consistently ahead of the curve. So we talked about what they be accurate or what the polls be more accurate. Looks like prediction markets came out on.
They did. I mean, I I was using those as an indicator. I was refreshing call SHE in polling market because I didn't know whether they were going to be accurate or not because they were clearly showing something different than what I had been seeing as I was just refreshing the result.
I was also looking at D J. T. Stock as a proxy. Uh, so we've got these whole new indicators coming in that are rivals to polls. And they would say that we're not we don't rival polls.
We we show different thing, but they would bid a huge factor, or at least they played a big role in this election, in people investing in bedding on the results in a way that they have not before billions have been spent on this. So you have to expect this going forward. Meanwhile, the presentin election wasn't the only thing that was decided yesterday.
Remember, we were talking about the control of congress, the senate and the house, and and those would determine whether the new president would able to implement their policies. Well, the currently as IT stands, the democrats control the senate, the republicans control the house, but that at least one of the chAmbers is going to be flipped because the republicans did take back the house. They won a bunch of seats, including in key states, ohio and west Virginia, and that that we don't know what's gonna en with the house here. There are dozens of races still out there, still close, too close to call. But we know now that trump is a present, the republican and the republicans do control the senate that has major implications for things like taxes.
Yeah, probably the first thing that will likely move pretty quickly under a republican controlled senate and presidential, uh, see is that they will move fast to extend those tax cuts. Remember, twenty seventeen tax cuts were set to expire at the end of next year, but they'll probably move very quickly to get those approved. And then another thing too, is potentially rolling back the I R. A, some of that Green energy investment that we spoke about, putting mower of that promotion and energy into a fossil fuel. So those are probably the first two things that you'll see a republican center in republican president try to move on as taxes and energy and will see if there's uh.
any movement in the house race which will update you on. I also wanna circle back to some of the other ballot measures that we had talked about across various states, things like medical, mariana, abortion.
So florida was a very expensive race regarding legalizing recreational marijuana that pitted governor on descendest and the billionaire camfed against this, uh, this cannabis company that poured one hundred and forty five million dollars, outspending the other side nine to one, while 4 voters rejected the measure。 So IT will. Become the twenty fifth state to legalized recreational marijuana.
So that is a sep c for the the cannabis industry, but a big win for kenric in who just seems to be winning all over the place right now. And governor on the scientists, ten states were also voting on measures that would protect abortion rites, abortion rights. As of early this morning, six past and florida, south dakota in nebraska at least, were projected to fail. So that's a little bit of a breakdown from the president on down. And what was a historic day in the united states up next?
Some stories are letting shoppers unlock display cases, what they are, phone. so.

Okay, move in on from the election. Retailers might be backtracking on those annoying cases. They locked the odin in to prevent theft. Canada, according to a report by bloomberg, walmart is experimenting with new technology at hundreds of stores that would let people open security locks themselves using their cell phones.
It's only being tested by employees for now, but the unlocking feature could be extended to wall mart plus loyalty members in the future, bloomberg said. To combat increased theft, in recent years, retailers have locked up everyday products like toiletries and cleaning supplies, and require customers to summer workers to open the cases for them, but turning a convenient store into a new jersey gas station has been backfiring. Chains like walGreens and cbs are losing business to amazon and frustrating both customers and employees with all the extra work.
So they're looking for fixes that keep those anti theft measures in place without compromising sales. Enter the self service unlock. And warmer is not the only retailer trying to sell.
yeah. C, V S is also piloting a similar program in new york city. One of our morning brew employees, a retailer brew writer, actually went down to go test out the system seeing in action.
And he liked IT a lot. He said that there were signs on the cases that they could be a mock using the cvs APP. If you had bluetooth and location services on and you just how to the apps menu, you click unlock product of your phone does IT for you and unlock the case.
And he went around the store asking something, employees, how they liked that. They said way Better. We don't have to get sum out every back in call.
This is a huge pain point for a lot of customers. I mean, if you have shopped in A C, V S recently or a walmart recently, you know, the headache of going to rock. I just want some toothbrush.
I just want some, uh, the other. And yet you have to press the but and get an employee to come over and unlock IT. So IT was only a matter of time before the story started. Either rolling back those anti measures or finding a different way to a different system to make IT less um unknowing. So I think this is good on both the shop side and the store side.
right? And just to put the numbers, some numbers on how big of a headache this this is according to a survey from consumer world upon to discovering a product that they want to purchase is locked fewer than one in three shoppers, some in an employee, to unlock the case. So two thirds of customers are just getting lost right there.
More than half decide that instead of seeking a similar unlock product, you'll just go to try to find IT in another store. And then IT also takes, if you do, if you are the one third of people who do something in employ, IT does take one point five minutes, on average, for customers to retrieve a product behind a locked case. So that is time that you just don't want to spend when you go to something called a convenience store. So this is just all the all of the reasons that this policy, whatever had been going on for the last three years to prevent theft or other things like that is not working. And retailers are leaning into new technology that could end up benefiting them actually .
right on the super side, boom, awake, quaker, to unlock without waiting, put on the stores side. Old boy, do you get a treasure trove of data? now? You know what kind of products that I shop for, where I shop, who I am, could you have to sign into the APP that can all get fed into these algorithms that maybe pushed Better deals to you within the APP and says it's so much more convenient?
I think a lot of people are going to be one hundred percent OK with that trade off ff, like they know that they are probably feeding over more data to these companies than they previously did. But anything to prevent the fact that prevent the the old a scenario of waiting for employee to come by and unlocked. So I think the real beneficiaries here aren't just consumers, but retailers, especially when you throw in those sales numbers to that, you typically lose fifteen to twenty five percent of their sales if you have to wait for one of these cases to be unlocked. So huge boom time for retailers and also maybe a reduction of headaches for .
shopping solution. We talked about removing the case.
I know I think, is because they put so many of them in and now they can't take them out. So they really backed themselves into a corner. But I actually think that this new unlock king system will lead to a Better business outcome for them because of the data that they get. So I think they found their way out of IT this program.
IT is still a small pilot program that is being used by cvs and some of other retailers. Ers like Roger.
let's move on. Feeling good in living longer is now a six point three trillion dollar business. According to a new report from the global wellness institute, that means that the wellness industries is now twenty five percent larger than IT was in twenty nineteen.
And IT also means IT has surpassed the pharmaceutical in sports industries in terms of size. The authors of the report pointed out that the focus on health and well being as we acted the pandemic helped supercharge growth as well as things like an aging population and an increase focus on mental health. But this report also applied a very broad definition to wellness, stuffing eleven sectors worth of economic activity into that six point three trillion dollar number, tracking spending on everything from tourism and real estate to actual public health initiatives. A similar report from the kinsey assign just a one point eight trillion dar value to the industry, which is giving some people some pause, but still, no, this is a big number. Indirectly, IT speaks to a wider truth that we are more focused on our health and well being or IT reveals that every industry wants to pass off what they are doing.
wellness directionally. I think that's the way to look at IT because you can raise your eyebrows as I did at this number and all of the things they're including in the wellness industry. They define IT as the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health, which in IT, in IT of itself, is a very holistic definition of wellness.
But i'm not so not paying attention so much for that six point three illegal lar number, but I temping attention to this number that is twenty five percent larger than IT was in nineteen. And so what you say about this is the way things are going directly. I think that correct. So you can put whatever big number you want on IT. But when you see something like twenty five percent growth, which I think anew tally, I think we're all feeling with, whether it's the rise of fitness tracking ers, everyone is buying one or the the both of use and health amenities on your vacation, I think if there's no doubt that this industry is absolutely booming, yeah.
just off the top of my head. I mean, you have this huge explosion in G, L, P. One like OEM pic with gov.
You have this big explosion in whereabouts orring apple watch that gives you real time of health data. Bio monitoring companies like levels which just real time. Glue coast monitoring are big now in person.
Fitness is big once more. We see that in surging gym um revenues and memberships, even platonics upswing a recently as they kind of come back from the dead. Sleep is a huge industry as well.
I can think about all of the if the smart matters is companies eight. Sleep is one that comes to mind. People have sleep stacks these days. So IT is big. We are definitely seeing a huge object, whether it's six trillion dollars big or if it's one point one trillion dollars big.
IT is big. IT is big. And I think a lot of people are also worried about scams in this industry and fat. And you're started seeing that. You're starting to see that with changing purchase decision.
So in that mckinzie study of wellness, they surveyed consumers and they began to see a shift away in when they're buying wellness products. Consumers are shifting away from clean and natural ingredients and shifting toward those with clinically proven ingredients. They want to see that the science backs up what they're buying, and they don't seem to care less that it's unquote clean and they do.
They want to know more that a scientist has approved IT. Roughly half of U, K, U, S. Consumers surveyed by mckinsey reported that clinical effectiveness was a top purchasing factor.
And then finally, just going back to that global wellness institute survey, the sector that they say contributed mostly number was personal care and beauty at one point two, one trillion dollars. So truly that many pet that faces that you get is a wellness activity. Whenever ver you're feeling bad for maybe going and getting your nails and are going getting the pear, I mean, I don't know why you feel bad about doing that. Just know that you are contributing to with the wellness industry and your own well this as well.
Okay, let's bring to the finish with some final headlines. Palen teer wasn't feeling any anxiety during election day. After reporting blowout earnings, the AI did analytics companies stock popped twenty three percent to reach an all time high, and it's now worth one hundred and fourteen billion dollars.
After the report, CEO alex carp was feeling as bombastic as chat ocho sync o. He said, and I quote, we absolutely officership this quarter driven by unrelenting AI demand that won't slow down. The world will be divided between A I haves and have not.
At plentier, we planned to power the winners. He talks a bit game, but hey, they absolutely backed up. There are one of the companies that can offer solid proof that they're making .
money on generate A I I mean U S. Revenue group forty four percent year over year. So of course, you had alex carp taking this Victory, he said at the beginning of the earnings school, given out strong our results are I feel like I almost feel like we should all just go home and not even do the earnings.
So he has definitely been criticised in the past, is definitely a little bit of a monkey character in the silk valley kind of archetype. But he has met every ounce of sketch m with an even bigger kind of return on becoming just one of the most important A I companies right now. So polenta is definitely a name to think about when you're thinking about the AI race in general. D, I, wires everywhere are pouring one out for berny markets this week after the cofounder of home deepo passed away at the age of ninety five, he is credited with transforming the home improvement landscape by pioneering a model of buying products directly for manufacturer, cutting out the middleman and warehouses in the process. The result, in a low Prices and warehouse field turned home deepo into a customer hit respond empire, stretching two thousand three hundred stores that markets oversaw as the company's first CEO for nineteen years.
Fascinating back story here. So he co founded home deepo with Arthur blank, who is now the owner of the atlantic falcon. They were working together at a hardware business in the thousand nine hundred and seventy called handy down home improvement centers, which I think is a great name.
They got fired from their business, uh for h sketchy reasons as according to them. And so they decided to start home depot. And now IT has twenty three hundred stories across north amErica and more than one hundred billion dollars, hundred and fifty billion dollars in the only will revenue. IT is the largest home improvement train in the entire world.
And Marcus was also a fully anthropy, donated a lot to right wing caused body, also gave two hundred and fifty million dollars to the city of atlantic for the georgia aquarium, which anybody goes to atlantic maybe has visited, is one of the world's largest aquariums that open in two thousand and five. And now for the other big poll that everyone was watching yesterday, the very first college pipal playoff kings were released. Remember, this year, the playoff field has expanded from four teams to twelve, no doubt because there is so much more TV money to be made with more and games. So who's on top undefeated over again is number one, followed by ohio state, George of miami, texas and pen state til we .
got any gripes with this ranking. IT was funny. These really dropped on ov, like, so you couldn't tell florida in the election sense or florida in the a called sense.
No, no real gripes for me. The only grape I potentially have is that undefeated inDiana is comes in that only the nine spot. And remember, I adopted the husks earlier this year because I went to deal with no college football team.
Our listeners, you guys sent me a lot of compelling cases. And why I should root for your team, I chose in inDiana, and they have done nothing but reward my faith so far. So hopefully by the end of season, we see the users maybe clear up into that top four seed.
IT might be a little tough, but they are still undefeated. So go uses. Finally, a new bomb shell has entered the pig. My hip of villa. A haggis from the edinburgh zoo is going viral, giving a mood ding the og, pick me hippo from thailand, a run for her money.
People on the internet immediately started pitting the two porkers against each other, with the animal zoo leading in, leading into the trash talking, before eventually issuing a tongue in cheek apology to mood dancing. There is space in the world for two beautiful pick hippo, and we should celebrate them all. But overall, both haggis and mooting are good news for the pigmy hippo conservation efforts, considering there are only about two thousand, five hundred to two thousand remaining in the wild.
So who do you thinks cuter?
I've still team mood dang hag is a little small for me. Who mood dang still has that kind of, uh, I don't know, he's got the of cause she's got the initial the O G right there. So I think .
people are pretty. I wonder what hagi means. Do you know hagi? So it's the Scottish putting that you prepared by cooking sheep organs inside the animal stomach. And then that's where IT served as well. So an interesting, uh interesting choice of name for for a little hagars here.
But moodys is also named after a tie dish and means port. So they both kind of went the naming road of a dish within their kind of respective countries. I had a hague. I haven't had the the bouncing port that mood is named after. So maybe I ve got to give both a try.
