Earlier this month, Chinese recruitment giant zhaopin.com released its annual survey of Chinese white-collar workers’ year-end bonus. The report shows that the average bonus among white-collar workers is above¥10,000 (around $1,600) for the first time in 5 years. But on the flip side of that, only 40% of surveyed employees will actually be getting a new year's bonus. What does this tell us about business confidence at the moment? Are people satisfied with the year-end bonus? Once that bonuses in their back pocket, will they look for a new job or a stable life? And what will they do with the money? As we farewell the year of the Ox and welcomed the year of the Tiger, we are glad to have Dan Wang, Chief Economist at Hang Seng Bank of China, and Kevin Harris, Managing Director, Partner and Head of the Shanghai Office for executive search firm, Russell Reynolds, to bring some insights.
