钟南山最新研判：6月底或迎新冠疫情第二波高峰

Top respiratory【呼吸的】 disease expert Zhong Nanshan predicted the second peak of COVID-19 is likely to occur at the end of June with about 65 million people nationwide estimated to be infected in a week.

著名呼吸病学专家钟南山预测，新冠第二波感染高峰可能在6月底到来，届时每周约会有6500万人被感染。

Zhong said one individual infected with the Omicron variant【变异体】 of the coronavirus can infect more than 30 people. A small wave of infections already occurred in late April and early May. He said two vaccines targeting XBB subvariants have been initially approved, and will be released to the market soon. The World Health Organization has recommended people get a COVID-19 booster shot that targets one of the XBB variants.

钟南山表示，一个奥密克戎感染者可传染30多人，今年4月底、5月初已经出现了感染小高峰。钟南山透露，目前已经有2种覆盖XBB变异株的疫苗获得初步批准，很快就能面世。世卫组织建议人们接种主要针对XBB变异株的新冠疫苗加强针。

云南普洱加大保护力度，吸引180余头亚洲象定居

Today marks the 23rd International Day for Biological Diversity. In Pu’er City of Yunnan Province, wild Asian elephants are thriving due to greater protection efforts. Stephen Rancourt has more.

今天（5/22）是第23个国际生物多样性日。在云南省普洱市，由于保护力度的加大，野生亚洲象正在茁壮成长。记者Stephen Rancourt带来更多报道。

Images of a herd【群】 of 18 wild Asian elephants were captured by a drone camera at the junction of Pu'er's Jiangcheng County and Simao District. At around 6 pm, the elephants entered a cornfield and ate some of the crops.

在普洱市江城县和思茅区交界处，一架无人机拍摄到18头野生亚洲象群的图像。下午6点左右，象群来到附近一片玉米地里，饱餐了一顿。

“我们政府购买了公众责任保险，如果大象吃了老百姓的庄稼，由当地协勘员来查勘吃了多少，定损后有几斤。我们有个标价，按照上面的标准来理赔。”

“Our government has purchased insurance. If elephants eat some crops, a monitoring team will help figure out the amounts that have been eaten, and how much is owed. Farmers will receive compensation【赔偿金】 according to the insurance standards.”

Infrared cameras have been installed at several main crossings in Pu'er. The information is uploaded to an Asian elephant monitoring platform, which sends text message alerts to residents.

普洱在亚洲象经过的主要路口安装了红外相机，并适时将数据传输到亚洲象监测平台，及时向周边居民发出预警。

The number of Asian elephants has increased to more than 180 in Pu'er.

普洱的亚洲象的数量已增加到180余头。

“近三年来看，亚洲象它有个婴儿潮。我们普洱市有重要的10群亚洲象，近期我们监测到江城有一头亚洲象马上就要生小象了，所以说亚洲象婴儿潮的到来，也体现了我们普洱市在保护亚洲象有明显的成效。”

“There has been a baby boom in the past three years. Pu'er has 10 herds of Asian elephants. Recently we have been monitoring an Asian elephant that is close to giving birth in Jiangcheng County. The baby boom coincides with our efforts to protect them.”

The populations of other endangered species, including elks, wild horses, and crested ibises have stabilized. More than 30% of China's land area is protected. About 74 percent of nationally protected wild animals and plants have received effective protection, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.

其他濒危物种，包括麋鹿、野马和朱鹮的数量已经稳定下来。我国陆域生态保护红线面积占陆域国土面积的30%以上。据国家林业和草原局的数据，约74%的国家重点保护野生动植物种群得到了有效保护。

3.SOUTH KOREA WINS BIG AT ARCHERYWORLD CUP SHANGHAI LEG

Powerhouse South Korea was the big winner at the Archery World Cup Shanghai leg that concluded yesterday in Lujiazui, Pudong, pocketing 5 of 10 gold medals up for grabs. Reporter Zhang Yue tells us some of the highlights.

2023射箭世界杯赛上海站昨天（05/21）在浦东陆家嘴落下帷幕，韩国队成为最大赢家，将10枚金牌中的5枚收入囊中。记者张乐为我们带来精彩看点。

The Shanghai leg was the second stop of this year's World Cup, after Antalya, Turkey. 19-year-old Lim Sihyeon of South Korea clinched the individual title in the women's recurve event. Although South Korea skipped the Antalya leg, its team once again proved it remains atop the archery【射箭】 world, claiming all three gold medals in the team competitions.

上海是继土耳其安塔利亚之后，今年世界杯的第二站。19岁的韩国选手Lim Sihyeon获得女子反曲弓项目个人冠军。虽然韩国队没有参加安塔利亚站比赛，但其在上海站团体比赛中包揽了全部三枚金牌，再次证明他们在射箭界的领先地位。

The Shanghai event is a qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. In the compound team finals, the men's, women's, and mixed titles went to the Netherlands, Mexico, and India. The archers now move on to the next leg in Medellin, Colombia in June.

本次上海站比赛是2024年巴黎奥运会的积分赛。在复合弓团体赛决赛中，荷兰、墨西哥和印度分别获得男子、女子和混合冠军。下一站比赛将于6月在哥伦比亚麦德林举行。
