“五一”国内出游合计2.74亿人次

The country's tourism industry experienced a strong rebound【回升】during the Labor Day holiday with 274 million domestic trips made nationwide. Domestic tourism revenue during the holiday exceeded 148 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of almost 130 percent. Now Chen Xuan brings us the details.

中国的旅游业在“五一”假期期间经历了强劲的反弹，全国国内旅游合计2.74亿人次。“五一”期间，国内旅游收入超过1480亿元，同比增长近130%。陈璇带来详细报道。

Nowabout a quarter of all tourists traveled outside their province. 12,800 A-level tourist sites were open during the holiday. Andthe top 5 tourist attractions were West Lake in Hangzhou, Confucius Temple and Zhongshan Mountain in Nanjing, the Summer Palace in Beijing and Dayan Pagoda in Xi'an.

约四分之一的游客选择跨省旅游。节日期间有12,800个A级旅游景点开放。排名前五的热门旅游景点是杭州西湖、南京孔庙和钟山、北京颐和园以及西安大雁塔。

While Zibo City in Shandong became a hotspot for its barbecue restaurants, hotel reservations in the province increased almost three times compared to the same period in 2019. It was the biggest increase nationwide.

山东淄博市因烧烤热潮成为全国旅游热门城市，该省的酒店预订量与2019年同期相比增加了近两倍，是全国范围内的最大增幅。

Revenue from major retail stores and catering companies increased 18.9 percent year-on-year during the holiday, according to Ministry of Commerce data. Box-office revenue at cinemas exceeded 1.5 billion yuan.

商务部数据显示，假期期间全国重点零售和餐饮企业的营业额同比增长18.9%。电影票房收入超过了15亿元人民币。

Duty-free shops were popular among travelers in Hainan Province. From April 29th to May 2nd, Haikou customs recorded duty-free sales of more than 700 million yuan, a 120 percent increase year-on-year.

来到海南的旅客热衷于前往免税店购物。4月29日至5月2日，海口海关的免税品销售额超过7亿元，同比增长120%。

About 1.5 million trips to Hong Kong were made during the holiday. 560,000 of them were from the Chinese mainland. Visits to Macau topped 480,000. An expert said the tourism boom represents the strength of the economy.

“五一”期间，约有150万人次前往香港旅游，其中包括来自中国大陆的56万人次。入境澳门旅客超过了48万人次。专家表示，旅游业的繁荣代表了经济的实力。

“Tourism has boomed this year with 274 million domestic trips made. It's more than trips, but rather a joyful mental experience and a recovery of consumer spending. It's the backbone of China's economy. With people traveling more frequently, people spend more money. It represents China's economic vitality【活力】.”

The professor said the government should promote paid holidays and encourage people to avoid travel peaks. She also suggested that different cities have their own characteristics to cater to the various needs of tourists.

刘教授表示，政府应该推广带薪休假，并鼓励人们避开旅游高峰。她还建议各个城市应该具有各自的特色，以迎合不同游客的需求。

2.CENTRAL BANKS INCREASE GOLD RESERVES AS CONFIDENCE IN USD FALTERS

A 10 percent drop in the value of the US dollar since October has led countries to diversify their foreign exchange portfolios. One of the most favored assets has turned out to be gold. Zhang Shixuan finds out the reasons behind the rising demand for gold.

自去年10月以来，美元贬值了10%，导致各国开始多元化其外汇储备组合。而其中最受青睐的资产之一就是黄金。记者张诗旋调查了黄金需求上升的原因。

Gold prices appear to be in the midst of a bull run. After the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, which was followed by a series of banking crises in the United States, the price of gold rallied more than 10 percent and stood above 2,000 US dollars per ounce for the first time since March 2022. Though the price has retreated of late, it's still sitting at around 2,000 dollars per ounce. Demand for gold illustrates a flight to safe-haven assets and reflects falling confidence in the US dollar.

“The market has been expecting the US Federal Reserve will loosen its monetary policy. So in the short term, investors expect the Fed to lower interest rates. But inflation looks like it's here to stay, so in the long term, the effective interest rate will decline. So the market is looking for an asset that has better liquidity than the US dollar and US bonds.”

A recent report from the World Gold Council shows that central banks around the world purchased a record high of more than 1,100 tons of gold combined. The council foresees a continuation of this trend this year.

世界黄金协会数据显示，各国央行购买的黄金总量超过了1100吨，创下历史新高。该协会预计今年这一趋势将会延续。

So we have seen that more countries have started to join the team to increase their gold reserves.”

In January, the Monetary Authority of Singapore increased its gold holdings by almost 30%, adding 44.6 tons of gold to its official reserves. Central banks in Russia, Turkey and India have also stepped up gold purchases.

3.RUSSIA CLAIMS UKRAINE TRIED TO STRIKE KREMLIN WITH DRONES

Russia’s presidential press service said Wednesday that Ukraine attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday night by using two drones to attack his Kremlin residence. Ukraine has denied any involvement in the reported attack. Stephen Rancourt has the story.

5月3日，俄罗斯总统新闻局表示，乌克兰在周二晚上使用两架无人机袭击克里姆林宫，企图暗杀俄罗斯总统弗拉基米尔·普京。乌克兰否认参与了这起袭击事件。Stephen Rancourt带来详细报道。

The Kremlin said the military and special services used radar signals to knock the unmanned【无人操纵的】aerial vehicles out of action.

No casualties or material damage were reported from the downing of the drones and the resulting scattering of fragments.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin was not in the Kremlin at the time of the attack and was working at the Novo-Ogaryovo presidential palace, located in a Moscow suburb on Wednesday.

Ukrainian Presidential Advisor Mykhailo Podolyak said that Ukraine was not involved in the alleged drone attack on the Kremlin, noting that Ukrainian military forces are targeting solely military facilities in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The White House says it can't “confirm the authenticity” of the reports from Moscow and the Pentagon is looking into the alleged【（未经证实而）声称的】attacks.

Russia also reported today that a fire broke out at an oil refinery in southern Russia after it was attacked by an unknown drone, there were no casualties.

This would be the second drone attack on an oil facility in Krasnodar this week. On Wednesday night, another drone attack was reported at an oil reservoir in Volna village in Temryuk district, causing a fire that covered an area of 1,200 square meters.
