The movie, the book is just so much better than the movie that it's not even close. And I'm not saying it's a bad movie. It's just the book is that much better. Locked on Sooners podcast. And John, I thought it was interesting when you guys are kind of running through this Oklahoma schedule this upcoming season, talking about the importance of that Auburn game early in the year. I mean, how make or break is that, do you believe, for the Sooners year one in the Southeastern Conference?

Well, it's pretty huge. I mean, it's that first road trip into an environment that you just don't get a lot of in the Big 12. I mean, Jack Trice Stadium up there at Iowa State is about the only other football stadium that can simulate, I would say, I don't even say match, but simulate what they're going to see in the SEC. So you've got that game against Tennessee. You've got to get off to a hot start against a top 15, top 20 volunteers team, and then

yeah, after that, you got Auburn and then you got Texas. I mean, you don't have a whole lot of room for error against any of these teams on the schedule. And that Auburn team is probably going to be better than what the record showed last year. But it's going to be huge, man, especially for a quarterback like Jackson Arnold, who's going to be going into –

arguably the biggest environment he's ever played in. And man, if they can't get off to a good start in that game, it could be a really, really tight one. Cause you weird things happen down there in Auburn and, you know, teams that are expected to be much better than them often find themselves in dogfights and who knows how this one's going to go.

What do you think is keeping Brent Venables up at night right now? I know it's easy to talk about the transition, the challenges that you're going to face on the road and just how many hostile environments you're going to see. And it will be different for sure. As someone that grew up in the Big 12 footprint, it's very different in the SEC. But...

What about the roster do you think has him concerned? And maybe concern is the wrong word because it seems negative. I don't intend it to be. What do you think is an all-points bulletin that's keeping his attention as he enters into fall camp a month from now?

Offensive line. That's the biggest question mark. And I say it's the biggest question mark only because it's had the biggest turnover. You lose the five guys who started the most games for you in 2023, including a guy like Caden Green who went to Missouri who was a freshman All-American. It was a group that had a first-round offensive tackle in Tyler Guyton. So, you know,

you're not easily replacing those guys. But they did some good work in the transfer portal. They've got blue chip offensive player or offensive lineman that Bill Biedenboe has been developing, and you've got arguably the best offensive line coach in college football in Bill Biedenboe. And we've seen them over the last few years with big question marks

going into the offseason, and then them address those question marks in the transfer portal. They added some guys with a lot of experience, Michael Tarkin, who's played some SEC football, Pac-12 football, now is going to potentially be your left tackle. You've got a guy like Fidichu Wihwu, who was, again, a freshman All-American. Yes, it was in Conference USA, but he's been an ascending player over the

first two years of his collegiate career. Branson Hickman was part of a really good SMU offense the last few years, very, very experienced player. Now those guys are going to have to adjust their game and be ready to step up to the level of competition that they'll face. But again, it's an offensive line with good depth, with good experience. It just has to come together. I mean, offensive line play is all about chemistry and continuity. And unless they can get that chemistry part put together pretty quick,

especially when you go on the road into Jordan-Hur Stadium. I mean, that's going to be a difficult challenge. But again, having...

a center like Branson Hickman with over 2,400 snaps under his belt, that's going to help things a lot more. But it's the question I think keeping everybody up at night. Sooner fans, the sooner coaching staff, but I think most people are pretty confident that it will come together at some point. It's a matter of at what point does it come together? Does it come together against Tennessee, the first SEC game that they're

they're welcoming the Vols into Norman or does it come together, you know, later on down the road? That's, that's the biggest question mark right now. John Williams joining us on the buyer's right hotline, not the conductor of all star Wars and Raiders of the lost Ark soundtracks, but yet covers Oklahoma football host of the lockdown Sooners podcast at John nine Williams. You can follow him on Twitter at,

So offensive line, a concern that I think a lot of people are aware of. It feels to me like defensive line was also a big concern for a lot of the offseason. And then all of a sudden, Demonic Williams commits, signs, and all of the concerns have gone away. Is he enough to make that front not be a concern for Oklahoma this year anymore?

There's still a little bit of a concern. The pass rush in Oklahoma's first couple years with Brent Venables has been inconsistent at times. Some of that due to the way offenses were scheming them, trying to get the ball out quick, using a lot of max protect. But there were times where you just weren't getting enough pass rush productivity, especially out of the defensive end groups. Now you've got an experienced guy, Ethan Downs, who continues to get better and better each year. And you've got some guys with juice on

off the edge as well. And, and Adepo Jadaboware and R Mason Thomas. Now it's for those guys, it's for R Mason Thomas. It's a matter of just staying healthy. He's shown big flashes every time he's gotten a chance to be on the field and be on the field consistently, but he just hasn't been able to stay on the field consistently. And, and with PJ Adepo Jadaboware, I mean, a five-star guy out of the 2023 cycle, it's,

He just needs to develop both physically, mentally, just developing the game. And he's got all the tools to be really, really productive. But it's the interior that has been the biggest question mark since Brent Venables arrived. But they got Dejan Terry to return, who was a big part of helping transform Oklahoma's run defense last year. And especially in short yardage situations, Oklahoma got really, really good last year. And so he comes back to help you at the nose tackle. Adding Dominic Williams was huge. It was an absolutely huge pickup for them.

And he can play the three technique, he can play nose tackle, and it gives you a lot more depth at defensive tackle that you didn't really have. You know, going into spring ball, it was looking like you might have to rely on your true freshman, Jaden Jackson, David Stone out of IMG Academy to be significant players for you. And

you guys know that's never a great recipe for success. At least you can have true freshmen that stand out early on in their careers at defensive tackle, but you don't want to go into a banking on that, right? Because it's just a hard position to transition to. But they've added good depth. They've got guys that have developed. They've developed physically a lot more guys up over 300 pounds than they've had in the previous two years under Brent Venables. And so that's going to help them be

a little bit more secure at defensive tackle. So, you know, defensive line, it still has a lot to prove, I think, in the minds of a lot of people, but it's, it's got to a point where, okay, we've got talent, we've got depth. It's a lot better situation right now than it was when the season ended in December.

As you assess the quarterback play, I know everyone is really optimistic about Jackson Arnold, understandably so. And I'm not saying this in intention to be negative. I just feel like there are things that we tend to overlook because it relates to five-star quarterbacks that we probably shouldn't overlook. Like Cade Klubnick is a good example. Going into last year, all the hopes of the world were on his shoulders that didn't work out very well. Hopefully, he'll bounce back this season. So,

Is the buzz surrounding Jackson Arnold justified with where they're at right now?

I think so. Obviously, he's going to be a kid that's got a lot to prove, too. But he's got the right head on his shoulders. He's got the right mentality. He's got the right work ethic. And he's got the tools to go and be successful. Now, will he be successful? That's what we watch the games for, right? I mean, everybody thought that a guy like Spencer Rattler was going to come in and set the world on fire. And he was okay, and he was pretty good at times. But obviously, it didn't ever translate to success.

being the five-star quarterback, top quarterback in the class kind of production or kind of play. But Jackson Arnold, he's got everything going for him from the intangibles to the arm strength, to the accuracy, the mobility, the athleticism. He can do a lot of really, really nice things on the football field. It's just a matter of it coming together. And a lot of how well it comes together for him this season is going to be dependent upon how well the offensive line comes together. Greg, you know that, hey,

the quarterback can only be as good as his offensive line a lot of times. And it doesn't matter how athletic you are, what kind of arm you've got, if you don't get the good protection and you don't have it early in your career, it can kind of create some, some,

some yips a little bit. You can start losing faith in the protection and bailing early and not seeing things the way you need to see them. So there's a lot that has to go right for him around Jackson Arnold for things to go well. I think that's true for every quarterback. You've got to have good offensive line play. But he's got great skill players at the wide receiver position, guys like Nick Anderson who had a huge year last year with 10 touchdowns, 800 yards.

A guy like Deion Burks, who blew up in the spring game, but comes over from Purdue after a really, really nice season there, but can make big plays after the catch. He's got great speed. And they just have a lot of good wide receiver depth that is going to stack them up against some of the best teams in the country. So he's got a lot going for him, but again, he just has to show it on the field at this point. John Williams covers Oklahoma football, joining us on the Buyers Right Hotline now. One last position I want to get your thoughts on. It may not be as important for Seth Luttrell,

as it was for the previous offensive regime in Jeff Levy. But the tight end position also feels like a little bit of a concern for Oklahoma. And it's a position that under Levy, I know when it's really good, that's when that offense sort of reaches its peak. Maybe not as big a deal for Seth, but I know he wants to get the tight ends more involved. Do they have enough there to be able to make that happen?

That is a fantastic question. I think it's the other position group that everybody's just kind of waiting to see how this is all going to turn out. Bauer Sharp, he's coming over from southeastern Louisiana. He's got a lot of athleticism. He's a former quarterback in his own right, but he's got good athleticism. He's a tough player. We'll see how that turns out. They got Jake Roberts from Baylor in the transfer portal. He's an experienced guy with four years of collegiate experience, and it's going to be a tough game.

He's going to at least give them a solid floor at the position. Now, he's not going to be a Mark Andrews type that is going to just take the top off of defense and make all kinds of plays in the passing game, but he can do it all for you. He can block really, really well, and he can make a few plays in the passing game. And then they've got some really nice blue-chip prospects that –

you know, are on the depth chart. They just need to develop. Caden Helms is a guy that has just had the injury bug. He's not never really been able to stay healthy, stay on the field consistently to have a chance to develop. And then Davin Mitchell, who was a guy that was supposed to be in the 2025 recruiting class, reclassified to 2024 and is going to be a big time playmaker at some point in his career. But like defensive tackle tight end can be a hard position to transition in. So if he can,

make the necessary steps this offseason and take that jump, he can be a factor in the offense as well. But they've got some solid pieces, but I don't think it's anything that is going to excite people or cause defensive coordinators to stay up at night trying to game plan for it. Now, they could prove me wrong. A guy like Bauer Sharp with the athleticism that he has, he can come in

and be that big time difference maker. But they've got to find somebody. Last year, they were playing 10 on 11 a little bit too much where the tight end just wasn't giving them much of anything. But I think this year they've got some better pieces and they've got better depth to have a better answer at that position. Finally, when you look at

Well, I think most of the time,

Most are looking forward to welcoming Alabama to Norman. I think that's one of those games that, despite the retirement of Nick Saban, you're excited because it's Alabama. It's one of the biggest brands in college football. It's the Crimson Tide coming with all their national titles. And hey, let's not sleep on Caelan DeBoer. That guy's a really, really good coach who's had a lot of success at every step of the way.

Jalen Milrow is going to be a really, really good quarterback again this year. This is going to be a really good team. And that game could have some college football playoff implications if we get to November and things are going well for Oklahoma. So that's going to be a big one. And then I think everybody's excited about LSU.

that game just screams night game in Baton Rouge. It just, it does. And that's going to be a huge, huge test for this team, but it's going to be an exciting atmosphere and an exciting environment. There's so many great matchups on the schedule. I mean, you talked about the Auburn game early in the season. That's going to be a really fun matchup. You know, I think you could go down the list and there's about five or six on the schedule that,

everybody's really excited to see for one reason or another, whether it's going to the Grove and being a part of the tailgate experience that they have there in Oxford or, you know, again, welcoming Josh Heupel in Tennessee to Norman for that first SEC game. Just a lot of fun, and I think that's the part of joining the SEC that everybody's most excited about is, yes, the schedule is daunting and it's going to be tough, but, man, look at the matchups. As a college football fan, like, these are dream matchups that you –

that you'd hope to get in bowl season every once in a while, but you're going to get this on a regular basis now moving forward. John, we've had some compelling discussions with multiple Oklahoma folks on this station that that Tennessee game could be in the discussion for the most important, biggest, most dynamic, however you want to describe it, regular season game in Oklahoma football history. And when you start to peel back the layers, there's a lot of that that makes sense, actually.

It is. I mean, it's the one that kickstarts your tenure in the SEC. And what you do in that game is going to say a lot about who you are as a program in this conference. You know, this is, and I've made the comparison that these are kind of some parallel programs right now. You know, Tennessee's got a developing defense that's been really, really good the last couple of years. They've got a five-star quarterback that's taking over in his first year as a starter in Nico Iannolaava. And, you know,

a really, really good offensive line in Josh Heupel. We feel like we've got a really good line in Seth Luttrell. What they do in that game is going to say a lot about who they are this year. John, we appreciate the time. Great stuff, man. It was great having you on. Glad to have you guys in the league. I'm sure we'll catch up again soon.

Yeah. Hey, it's my pleasure. And this, this is a kind of a funny full circle moment. So I actually grew up in North Texas, went to Haltom high school and got to witness the menace that Greg McElroy and the Southlake Carol dragons were to North Texas and really Texas high school football for like a decade plus. So, uh, man, I don't think Alabama fans truly understand what a menace Greg and his Southlake Carol dragon teams were in the, uh, 2000. I threw a pick six against Haltom, uh,

On a squat corner to the right, I tried to throw a little out route, and he squatted on me, and it was to the house. I think that made the final score like 63-7.

Yeah, that gave us one moment, and we appreciate that, Greg. Otherwise, it was a really, really hard day to be in the black hole that day. Yeah, that was tough, buddy. But it was fun playing against you and competing against you. There's nothing better than high school football in, say, Texas. Pretty good as it gets. And those Southlake teams, man, they were incredible to watch. Just the efficiency in which they moved the football was ridiculous.

Well, John, you're trying to bring up the greatness of Greg McElroy as a high school football player. I want to congratulate you. You've canceled yourself from ever appearing on the show again. So well done by you. It's all right. It's been real. Us North Texas guys got to stick together. Going out on top. Going out on top. All these guys down here think they can handle it. We would have rolled Homewood right out of the gym. It would have been very easy. Power clean record. Oh, yeah.

We've got to be careful with that nose tackle that's on a roid rage. Other than him, we'll be fine. We didn't have a nose. We played four down. All right, John, great stuff. Seriously, thank you so much. We'll do it again soon.

Hey, my pleasure, gentlemen. Have a great day. Great stuff. John Williams there covers the Oklahoma Sooners Locked on Sooners podcast. Really good thoughts and just kind of vision of where Oklahoma may go this year. And like you said, there are so many games on that schedule that just have a lot of meaning, intriguing for different reasons. It's going to be interesting to see just both Texas and Oklahoma, how things go for them this year in the Southeastern Conference.

When we come back, I want to go a little bit further, not just with Oklahoma, but some of the other teams in the SEC this upcoming season. I have some more questions about our thoughts on where a certain team or two may go. We'll discuss that next on McElroy and Kubrick in the morning. Catch up with all things McElroy and Kubrick in the morning by subscribing to the podcast. Mythically, he's grown. He's almost like a little bit bigger than...

A player, right? Like the myth of Bo Jackson. Like, rate, and download the show from the Jock Tap or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, welcome back in. McElroy and Kublik in the morning. There is one team in college football right now that's doing it different than everybody else.

I'll tell you who that is in just a moment. 800-239-9569 if you'd like to be a part of the show. 800-239-WJOX. Also text in 205-834-9450. You should go through that schedule, G-Mac. You were out last Friday. We had Dusty Dvorak on. We kind of celebrated Oklahoma and Texas coming into the league. He starts going into the reasons that Tennessee game has all this different meaning. If you haven't heard that, I would suggest you go find it on podcast.com.

Hearing Dusty talk about what it's going to mean for Josh Heupel to come back and sort of the forgotten importance of Josh Heupel and Norman was really cool to hear. And then the first SEC game ever being right there. It's a lot, man. And then that first road trip, that's a game that both Auburn and Oklahoma are going to need in a major way. We know what the Texas game means.

You get to go to the Grove at Missouri, which, of course, we know that's a game that has been played. Is that the one they play for the Peace Pipe? The Oklahoma? They play for the good old Peace Pipe? I'm not familiar with that. Okay. Not familiar with the Peace Pipe. I think I learned this yesterday. I have not heard of this. One of the trinket games? Yes, it is a trinket game. Old trinket game. We don't have a ton of those in the SEC, I don't feel like. Time to start. The Tiger Sooner Peace Pipe.

I've literally never heard of this. Trophy that was awarded to the winner of the game. Literally, not once have I ever heard of this. Now you have. Now you know. See, and you just thought that we were bringing in like a wagon of

and a big steer. We had no idea what Oklahoma and Texas were bringing into the league. Nope. Now we do. Now we get trinket games. So there you go. That's a trinket game. Oklahoma, Missouri, and then, of course, Alabama in Norman, November 23rd, and then Oklahoma and LSU. I mean, just a lot of games with a lot of meaning. It's a wild schedule for as soon as year one of the Southeastern Conference. It really is. I think their schedule, of all the schedules this year, is probably the most intriguing. Yeah.

Not that it's

They're all pretty intriguing, I might add. But just with some of the matchups that are created, especially in the second half of that schedule, is crazy. And then to know their first trip is to Auburn and they have Tennessee against their former. I mean, there's just a lot of tentacles to that game against Tennessee that we've already described. So it's just a really interesting schedule, I think, with a lot of really cool storylines for center fans. All right. I mentioned that there's a team in the SEC that's doing it different than everybody else. We'll tell you who that is in just a moment.

Game Day Men's Health doing it different than everybody else. Also, if you have a lack of energy, if you're getting poor sleep, you feel on edge, it could be the effects of low testosterone. Here's the cool thing about Game Day Men's Health. You're going to walk in. It's going to feel like that locker room environment. They've got a cool lounge. You're going to be able to go hang out and get snacks, grab something to drink. Very low-key. It's going to be very cool. They're just going there and relax and see kind of what they can help you out with. Going in, trying to help me out with some issues that I'm having.

They can help you with this at Game Day Men's Health. Weight loss, also multiple programs that they can help you out with. There's semi-glutide, also known as Ozempic. Book your free consult at gamedaymenshealth.com. That's gamedaymenshealth.com. Now, Gameday Men's Health might be able to help you with weight loss, but the Georgia Bulldogs are going a different direction, Greg, as far as the size of player that they are bringing into their next signing class. They get a commitment yesterday from Jazair Jackson, 6'11", 330 pounds. Now,

Just let me, before we actually throw it out there, because I think the people know where we're going, I think we should collectively throw one out there in just a moment when I give you the rest of Georgia's offensive line commits. Yeah. But he is an OTE basketball champion. Basketball champ. Three-star football player. Started his high school career in Georgia, then went to IMG, and apparently is an OTE champion. OTE? What? Anybody got that?

O.T.E. I don't get it. I am unfamiliar with O.T.E. No, that's actually Game Day Men's Health can help you with being on the edge. Oh, OK. Yes. I'm over time. Elite Academy. Apparently, you can just go to school here. It's just a basketball place. That's it. O.T.E. offers world's most talented basketball players a better pathway to becoming professional athletes.

That's what it's all about. Go pro. It's like a – I mean, they have an academy, but I think it's just kind of like a IMG for basketball only. O-T-E. What about school? No need to play that. Ain't enough time for it? Personalized learning. This is from their website, by the way. During their time with us at O-T-E, athletes engage in three and a half to four hours a day of academic instruction. Engage. Okay. That was this when I was a kid, by the way. Love that.

They provide comprehensive online learning curriculum for all athletes that consists of NCAA-approved courses. Oh, boy. Online. Oh, so like etiquette? The old etiquette. They have daily on-site sessions with content-specific learning facilitators. Okay, so like influencers. Got it. Wow. Well, I heard content. All right. Here are Georgia's current offensive line commits. Nair Daniels.

Do we want to throw this out after every one, or do we want to wait for one collective one at the end? We'll do it together after each one. Okay. Nyer Daniels, 6'7", 371 pounds. Look how big!

Daniel Calhoun, 6'6", 365. Look how big. Marquise Easley, 6'5", 345. Look how big. Marcus Harrison, 6'7", 335. Look how big. Malachi Tolliver, 6'5", 315. Just normal offensive lineman, actually. Just look how average. Look how normal. Ha ha ha.

Michael Uini, 6'7", 335. Look how big. And finally, we already mentioned him. Jazair Jackson, 6'10", 350 pounds. Look how big. That's a big one. 6'11"? Big. He hasn't played football in a while. And he actually admits that he'll be a bit of a project, trying to come in, learn some of the techniques and fundamentals. But...

We've talked about this with the kid at Mississippi State. We've talked about it with Dan Skipper. Greg, you get in the 6'10", 6'11", range, it's tough. You've got to bend. You better have some flexibility. You will have some advantages. You're going to be able to keep people away from you. Yeah, your arms are going to be long. Leverage is going to be a problem. Yeah, I would agree with that. I would think it would be very challenging, very challenging to anticipate guys being able to adequately bend at 6'11".

We'll see. But they got a 365, a 371, a 610, a 345. I mean, it doesn't feel like Kirby's getting too far away from the bully ball. What's crazy, though, is maybe that's where we're going in the sport. Maybe that's the size guys that will be playing offensive line. Yeah, if you can find them, it'd be great to go there. I'm talking about in 10 years. Yeah.

20 years. I mean, what was the size of the offensive lineman back in 1974? Like 240. Yeah. See, I always love when everybody's like, oh, these guys are so much bigger. And then it's like you see, you know, guys like Wayne Gandy and Willie Anderson. And there's a defensive lineman that ran our dorm room for us named Ben Thomas, who's like just one of the most massive human beings you've ever met.

And, like, I remember the first time I met James Joseph, who played running back at Auburn. He looks like a modern-day defensive end. And you're like, that guy played running back? Like, sometimes I think we get a little carried away with, like, they're that much bigger than they used to be. Now, I'm not talking about 1948. That was a little bit different. But, you know, from the mid-'80s on, I don't think the size differential is that great. I really don't. Because I've met the guys that played then.

You guys have been around Bo Jackson. It does not. I mean, how many running backs in college football are that big right now? Not many. Not many. Maybe collectively, all of them, yes. But it's not like they didn't have some. Now, this is a whole different deal. You get an offensive line out there of 371, 365, 345, and 610, 335. Like, that's different. Yeah, I would say so. Yeah.

I would say that's a little different. And I saw people chirping at this yesterday saying, oh, everybody told me Bama's O-line was going to be the best ever because they were all over 360 last year. It was four over 350. I've never seen that before. And if I'm not mistaken, that group threw Georgia out the club for about four straight quarters in Atlanta. But that's not important, dude. You're right. The tape's not important. No.

Why would that matter? It wasn't a great start to finish, but the finish was pretty good. That one was pretty good. Pretty brutal. And by the way, you can say it wasn't great against Michigan. That D-line was a lot better than a lot of you think. Correct, yes. It'll be interesting to see where this goes, Greg. I don't know if this is going to work for Georgia, if this is kind of the mindset moving forward, but they've been...

Size has been something they've used to their advantage under Kirby smart and doesn't look like it's going to be slowing down anytime soon. I don't think it will be. It will. I do think size is going to be a valuable asset, um, for some, but at the same time, like you don't want to be too big. I think last year it's what Bama kind of missed the mark on it. Uh, a little too big and speed hurt him a little early. Um,

And then they had to kind of adjust, and they made some tweaks with their guard rotation. And Caden Proctor got a little more comfortable on the left side. Not that he ever at any point last year took the world by storm, but he got a little more comfortable and handled it a little better. But I think even the guy that got drafted in the top ten,

struggled at times with some speed last year so i think that was maybe a misstep doesn't mean that it won't correct itself though over the course of the season but i don't think you want to be too big anymore guys are just too fast yeah you better be able to move one way or the other no matter how big no matter how small all right um so just a little bit on georgia and how they're sort of operating in a bit of a different way and

I feel like it's worked for the most part. We'll see if it continues to work that way. We know polar bear service is always going to work, G-Mac. Big returnee into the Southeastern Conference in an announcement on a kickoff game that we will discuss next on McElroy and Kubelik in the morning. The capital of the sports talk nation. This is Jocks 94.5 and Jocks FM.com. Hurry and... All right, welcome back in. McElroy and Kubelik in the morning. Appreciate you tuning in. Tuesday, July 9th right here on Jocks 94.5, 8.38 a.m.

Braves take out the V-backs yesterday in 11-5-4. Braves 50-39 on the season. Those two go again at 8-40 tonight. Reds take out the Rockies 6-0 yesterday. Tenth time this season that the Rockies have been shut out. That is tied for the second most in Major League Baseball.

L.A. Day LaCruz, two for three, two runs. Had an RBI, two stolen bases. That's 45 stolen bases on the year. The most stolen bases before the All-Star break by any Reds player ever. Ever. Yes, sir. Yes, sir.

I mean, 45 stolen bases, that's pretty much led the league like the last six or eight years. Yeah, for sure. So he's finding a way to get it done. And obviously getting on base because you're not going to steal bases unless you get on base. Dodgers at Phillies tonight, 540. That's a TBS game. Yankees...

at Rays 550 tonight. We'll get back about it in our next segment, but Olivia Dunn announces she's going to return to LSU, Greg. Fifth year. COVID year for gymnastics. Coming back. Might as well. Fresh off a natty. Why wouldn't you? You would. There's no reason not to come back and continue to capitalize on the things that she has.

Also, Utah and Miami announced that they will kick the season off week one of 2027 in Las Vegas. That's a cool non-conference matchup. Very cool. Get that. 2027, will Morgan Scali be the head coach? Yes. It'll be done by then? Yes. Okay. Also, interestingly enough in kind of our other world, at Getting Overcast...

is reporting that the New York Post is reporting that Joe Tessitore will sign with WWE this summer and lead a commentary trio with Corey Graves and Wade Barrett. He's going to remain at ESPN, obviously, do the things that he does there. But Joe Tessitore to WWE, G-Mac. Yes. Not crazy surprising. WWE has had some openings randomly with their commentary groups recently.

Raw and SmackDown have both kind of relocated in recent years. SmackDown coming off of Fox kind of opens the door to be able to do things with different people. And I don't know exactly how it's all going to work out, but Nick Khan, who is the president of WWE, and Joe are very best friends.

So it makes sense that they would find some professional opportunities to work together. So I'm excited for him. That's great. I know he's very interested in WWE. We talk about it quite a bit. We had him on prior to WrestleMania to kind of set the stage. So pretty cool. And he's got the...

He's obviously got the pipes. He's got the juice to be able to do that. I think carry a call. It'll be cool to see him. It'll be interesting to just kind of hear him on calls for that and kind of hear how it goes. When does Netflix begin kind of doing their live stuff? They've got the hot dog eating thing coming up in September. Yeah. They've got a couple NFL games. I would need to look. Is that Christmas or Thanksgiving, the Netflix NFL games? That's Christmas, right? Christmas Day? Yeah, Christmas Day.

Have anything before that? I don't know. I'd have to look. Did you watch the hot dog eating contest over the weekend? Yeah, we always have it on. Did you feel like you were, was it a letdown?

uh i was actually i was more interested yeah i would agree i would i felt like it was gonna be competitive i would say it was a little better because i didn't really know who was gonna win i mean that was like the bertoletti guy i've never even heard of that guy um so i kind of was intrigued by that and it's cool to kind of hear the other people's stories i was more i feel like it was an nba bubble championship sort of a little bit but did you feel somewhat amazed by the lemonade chugging contest

Not the after effects, no. That was a lot. That might have been a little bit more. Didn't need to see all that, by the way. You could have let us know that it happened once, but the three that followed it just didn't need all that. Thanks for telling us, though. Yeah, I mean, it was aggressive after the fact, but I was probably more amazed with that than I was.

To be able to chug a gallon of lemonade that quickly is disgusting. And I love lemonade as much as the next person, but my goodness. Yeah. That was impressive. And you know what? To also regurgitate said lemonade that quickly. Disgusting. Also disgusting. Did you guys do fireworks on the 4th?

we have them like not like not go watch them or do you have i don't set any off personally no but i do like to engage when fireworks are readily available and they were this year thanks to the livings who put on a phenomenal show uh they're in alexander city just an amazing amazing show see i i have been kind of stay away steer clear used to be big like you know

bottle rocket roman candle battle as a kid not smart at all i would suggest you stay away from looking back yeah don't just don't uh don't don't need to do that john are you are you in out i love watching them i'm over uh buying it myself and doing it myself and so there were a good number of places around here that you could drive around in fact on the way home um

We ended up seeing that – not Jessalyn, Best River City High School was shooting up some. So we pulled off, pulled in the Circle K right there and just sat on the trunk and watched it and sat in the parking lot for about 40 minutes after they let everybody else from the school leave because they have police officers right there kind of conducting traffic. And apparently they just only wanted them to leave and not everyone else. So that was a bit annoying. Damien, you take me as a guy that would not afraid to get out there and –

Have your own fireworks show. No, no. He's in his late 20s now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's older. I don't mind watching them, but as far as purchasing them, no. I purchased a couple for the kids. Did a couple of the giant, you light it, and 52 of them go off or whatever. A few of those, but I didn't really want to get...

Close to anything. It brought me to this story that I saw over the weekend. A man in South Carolina lit a firework on his head during a Fourth of July party. Haven't we heard that that was not a good idea? Didn't someone die from that? I don't think you need to hear about it. I think you should probably just have an understanding. I'm pretty sure a kid did this last year and died. Well. 41-year-old Alan Ray McGrew.

lied on the road suffering from major injuries as police arrived at 1110 p.m. on the night of July the 4th. He ignited a, quote, large firework device and set it on top of his head. Okay. I'm just imagining that it was one kind of like that I was discussing that you feel like goes up. Yeah. And you put on your head thinking that that's just going to be okay. Yes. It's not. No. The coroner.

Yes. Said the firework exploded on top of his head and caused extreme head injuries. You don't say. So, yeah, you're – the fact that I mentioned a coroner, you probably guessed correctly. Two plus two does equal four. He's no longer with us. Yes, yes. He died. Firework on your head, though. Like I'm not sure what you were – what outcome you were anticipating there. Right. That –

Maybe it was JPP that just had me go a different direction and say, I don't need any part of that anymore. Yeah, I'm not one that's in a huge hurry to get out there and start lighting them off. Especially on my person.

Right. Light and run? Oh, yeah. One by. That's the, yeah. Light and have on you in any capacity? Nah. Cool. Good. We're good. Don't need it. Don't need it. Not even light and throw no more. No, no. Because back in the day, maybe like the smoke bombs. Like that. Those M-80 fuses were quick. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Not as quick as the little firecracker fuses. Those things, you could almost not get them out of your hand. God, we did them though. It was just so stupid.

I just wonder where everybody was. It makes me sad that someone would die for something so dumb. Correct. Easily preventable. Easily preventable. You get one shot at this thing. It's just sad. It is unfortunate. When we come back...

8.50 a.m. right here on JOX 94.5. Going to get bad about it here in just a moment. First, GMAC, tell our listeners about Iconic Carts and all the great things they can do to help them out. Well, what Iconic Carts can definitely do is they can get you in one of the brand new 2024 Street Legal Evolution or Denago Carts. And these things are beautiful, man. Tons of options, touchscreen controls, lithium power, killer sound systems, more upgrades than you could possibly imagine.

One thing that's always kind of kept me up at night as it relates to buying a golf cart, not about the fun we'd have at the lake or the beach or around the neighborhood, but how do you get it serviced? How do you get it taken care of if you have an issue? Well, Iconic Carts has master technicians who are qualified to work on all makes and models of carts, and they can work on off-road vehicles. Plus, they have four- and six-passenger carts that you can rent, so you can figure out how you're going to use it

where you're going to use it, and how many seats you might need before you buy. And you can go see them in one of two locations, downtown and in Chelsea, or you can go online and have it checked out at iconiccarts.com. All right. Every Tuesday, when we get bad about it, we celebrate individual greatness, not necessarily team success, which I feel like is epitomized here.

We mentioned the Elf League yesterday. That is the European League of Football. Let's go. Had a couple bad box scores of the day. You may hear about this individual game later today. But Ravens quarterback Chad Jeffries lost the game 54-0. Oh, okay. Now, you probably wonder how...

Could somebody be bad about it when they lost? Well, it's how they lost. They only played one half of football. Wow. How and why they played one half of football, we will get to a little bit later in the show. Oh, boy. But Jeffrey's on the other side for the Barcelona Dragons. 295 passing yards, six passing touchdowns in the game in a 54-0 win.

And we will discuss why that was only in one half of football a little bit later in the show. But Chad Jeffries was. About it. About it. That, I would say, is a pretty impressive performance, to say the least. Well...

It's a little bit tough because most of my consumption right now in sports is kind of all over the place. And God's honest truth, I don't care that much about John Deere Classic. Never tried to pretend. Oh, really? So dynamic. Wow. Never tried to pretend like I did. I tried to find something in soccer. I don't.

When you scored a goal, I'd say, are you about it? I don't know. I don't know what you're. He had an assist. Oh, yes. About it, about it, about it, about it. They had a clean sheet. About it, about it for the keeper, but doesn't do a whole lot for me. So I decided to go with Davis Thompson. Anyone here familiar with Davis Thompson? I haven't seen the tape. Well, how could you not? I mean, he's a 25-year-old.

Third-year player from Georgia who is on the PGA Tour. And in his first opportunity to close, sitting there with a 54-hole lead on Sunday, he goes out and fires a cool 29 on the front to extinguish any possibility of a player from behind him chasing him and ultimately running him down. He gained a remarkable...

Four strokes against the field on the front nine by himself with the putter on Sunday. The day that he is supposed to collapse like most young players do when they have a chance to win for the very first time, he did everything but.

en route to a dominant, a completely dominant four-stroke victory over Michael Thorbjornsson, who I know you guys are all familiar with his work. Oh, yes. Sure. And the amateur with back-to-back top tens, Luke Clanton. Luke Clanton, don't call me peaches. All right? Wow. That's how legit he is. Why are you laughing then? If you didn't like it, why are you laughing? Extremely corny. Damien, what do you got about it? That's corny. Davis Thompson was...

About it. About it. David's not David Thompson. Yes. Give me my theme music, brother. Yes, sir. They're still playing? Y'all, you bet. In the playoffs. We're in the playoffs, brother. Is that going to the mall? In the playoff game, Nashville Cats knocked off the Orlando Predators 62-32 with the arm of my quarterback, my guy, Randy Hipper. 15 for 21. 165 yards.

Not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, but seven passing touchdowns from my Nashville Cats as we – For 72 yards? 165. That's pretty good. Listen, it's quantity. Quantity over quality, baby. Seven of them were touchdowns, baby. Randy Hippert, my quarterback of my Nashville Cats, he was – I can't do that and play your music. It's all good. You've got to pick one. Boot it, boot it. Yeah, for me, I'm –

I'm going to play you a little homer. I'm going to give it to Caden Clark. When you get the first ever triple-double as a rookie, I'm going to give it to you. 19, 13, and 12.

And a win, no less, too. She was bad about it. I'll add one. Saturday, Yankees rookie first baseman, Benton Rice, three for five, three home runs, seven runs driven in. First Yankees rookie with three home runs in a game. Youngest Yankee with three home runs in a game since 1970. First Yankee since 2005 with three home runs, seven RBI in a game. Alex Rodriguez did that. Fourth Yankee with three home runs in a game versus the Red Sox.

Lou Gehrig, Mark Teixeira, Aaron Hicks, your other three. So Ben Rice also. No Cooper Flagg, who I guess beat up on Team USA in basketball practice. I didn't see the tape on that either. So no. This is McElroy and Cubelik in the morning.
