The narrator, a struggling ghostwriter, hoped a break away from the city would help clear his head and get back on his feet, possibly overcoming writer's block.
He felt a sudden, urgent motivation to look out of the window, even though he was not sure if it was from a bad dream or something he heard.
The snowman appeared in a remote area where no other cabins were around, and it seemed to be getting closer each time he saw it, giving him an eerie and unsettling feeling.
He knocked down the snowman just for good measure, to make himself feel better and to eliminate the source of his unease, though he was unsure if it was a kids' prank or something more sinister.
The narrator was repeatedly disturbed by the snowman and the sounds of snowballs hitting the window, which made him feel intensely watched and unsafe, leading him to leave the cabin the next day.
The noise of a snowball hitting the window and the persistent, unexplained presence of the snowman kept the narrator awake, filling him with dread and uncertainty.
The narrator gradually became familiar with the person who was building the snowman and throwing snowballs, and despite never seeing their face or knowing their name, he identified them by their actions.
