"Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able to." Here in Luke 13:24, Jesus is answering a question "are only a few going to be saved?" and demonstrates with his own actions how we are to enter through the narrow door. Hebrews 5:7 recounts that "During Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears", thereby, setting the standard and expectation of the progression of God's will for you. However, the Father's goal is not only for us to endure suffering, but to also "fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the JOY set before him endured...". Without the perspective of Joy being the end goal of your suffering, you will become entangled and hindered by your own offenses and options of self sufficiency.
