Kroger CEO gets a big pay hike

Kroger Co. gave CEO Rodney McMullen a 19% pay hike last year, pushing his compensation near $12 million and making him one of Greater Cincinnati’s top-paid CEOs.

Cincinnati-based Kroger (NYSE: KR), the nation’s largest operator of traditional supermarkets, boosted McMullen’s pay to $11.8 million last year, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings. That’s up from $9.9 million in 2017. McMullen’s pay excludes changes in the actuarial present value of his pension benefit, a calculation the SEC requires but the Courier excludes from calculations of total compensation.

Major U.S. grocery and drugstore chain Kroger (NYSE:KR) says it will pay $130 million more in bonuses to its workers, both part-time and full-time, in two parts. Like other bonuses and extra pay the company has dished out during the past several months, this bonus is to "recognize and thank our associates for their incredible work during this historic time" of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to CEO Rodney McMullen.

Attorney General Bill Barr and FBI Director Chris Wray slammed Apple for refusing to help them unlock the iPhones of the terrorist who launched a deadly terror attack at a Florida naval base last December. The two men announced that after they finally unlocked the phones, cellphone evidence showed the terrorist who launched the attack had been in contact with al Qaeda operatives for years.
