Young Thug took a plea deal, pleading guilty to participation in a gang and several drug and gun charges, resulting in time served and 15 years of probation.
The prosecution presented evidence of DNA found under Amber Spradlin's fingernails matching Michael McKinnie III, scratches on his forearms, and security video showing his truck leaving the scene around the time of the murder.
The prosecution used Young Thug's own songs and social media posts as evidence, alleging they contained coded messages about criminal activities and gang affiliations.
The judge decided to keep the bond at five million dollars, stating that McKinnie had the ability to post it but chose not to.
Tips include knowing people's baseline behavior, asking follow-up questions, and paying attention to deviations from normal behavior, such as strong reactions or avoiding eye contact.
The trial was controversial due to its length, the use of rap lyrics as evidence, and various courtroom incidents, including a witness who appeared to be high on the stand.
Juliana Mogollon pleaded guilty to manslaughter and agreed to testify against her co-defendant, Brendan, as part of her plea agreement.
The defense argued that Allen's confessions were not real and were the result of a psychotic break, questioning the validity of the bullet analysis linking him to the crime.

Our editorial team is catching up on breaking crime news around the country. I just heard one will .
talk to us.
I do believe .
the defensive .
rest today that perfect marriage of that perfect couple of me not to be so perfect.
Welcome to date line through crime weekly I Mandy a. canning. It's november seven. Then here's what's on our docket. In the spring of twenty twenty two, the state of georgia accused one of the biggest names in rap music, Jeffery Williams, or Young thug, of running a criminal enterprise, but last week he left jail in a Mercedes.
If you had told me that this was scripted in A T, V show, this was like, too unbelievable.
In deadline round up, Karen read is back in courts. New videos are played for the jury in the delphine murder trial. And we've got police body camp from the case of the brazilian pair accused of murder, I think, finish. Plus, have you ever wondered how detectives know when someone is lying to them? We've got tips from a former secret service agent about how to spot we kind .
of a know when things are on trust IT.
But first, we're heading to a small town in kentucky for an update on a case we talked about on the podcast. Over the summer, the sun of a local dentist has been behind bars, charged with a grisly murder he denies committing. Now we're finally getting a look at some of the prosecution evidence.
In june twenty twenty three, Amber springs, a thirty eight year old restaurant hostess in prestons burg, kentucky, was found murdered in a prominent dentist home for over a year. There were no arrests. Then this july, the dentist, Michael mckenna, second his son and a family friend were arrested and charged with multiple counts of tampering with evidence, and the sun, Michael mckinnie the third was also charged with ember's murder.
Here's our nbc affiliate station, W L. X. The allegation he intentionally killed, spreading by repeatedly stabbing her inside his father's home on unit teeth, twenty twenty three, all three men pleaded not guilty.
Two of the men were released from jail. But the dantis sun, known as mk, has been behind bars. Ever sense? Then two weeks ago, there was a hearing about his unusually high bond, M. K. Mcinnes, once out of jail, and his lawyer argued why his five million dollar bond should be lowered. The prosecution also spoke at the hearing and revealed for the first time some of the evidence they believe proves mk is embers killer date line producer Rachel White was inside the courtroom and is here to tell us what he learned and what the judge decided. Rachel, welcome back to the show.
Thank you.
Andrew OK, so this is a complicated case. Let's start with a quick recap of what happened. What do police believe happened in that house? Howard, Amber, and up at the dental house.
So Amber had finished her shift at the broken house restaurant. SHE met up with a friend to grab a drink, get another bar, met up with the dentist, his son and the third man, josh mullins, and decided to go back to the dentist house to continue the night and have a few more drinks. OK.
where does everything go wrong? I think this is where you're going to say we don't really know.
Yeah, right? So there's a lot of unknowns, a lot of details that still have not come out. For example, prosecutors haven't laid out a motive for this crime.
You were at this hearing where the defensive representing mk. Machi tried to get his five million dollar bonds load. That's a lot of money. What did the defense say?
I think one of the main points of the defense argument was that mk could be waiting for a very long time for his trial. They haven't tested a lot of evidence in this case, and some of that could be exculpatory evidence. The prosecution has said that that was because of a backlog in the kentucky labs. So the defense is saying that mk is innocent until proven guilty and that the evidence in this case could take at least year, if not longer, to get them to the point where they could have a trial. And that's a very .
long time for him away. That's a this care of justice because it's not his responsibility to do this test.
His attack y also said that he has no prior criminal record.
The elevation appears a danger to the he's twenty thousand years old and has a speeding ticket for five months for hour home. That then what .
does the prosecution saying?
The prosecution laid out a lot of evidence in the case because the defensive motion basically said that there was a lack of physical evidence. And so they went and laid out a lot of IT to prove that that wasn't true. So we learned that Amber was stabbed at least twelve times in the head and neck and torso. And this was a very, very violent attack. The bleed from the knife actually broke off in her neck and was found during the autopsy.
wrong. And and they even know, as we mention, that they are not saying exactly what they have. They are indicating that their evidence strongly implicates mk.
They are. So when mk mechanic was brought in for questioning shortly after the murder, scratches were seen in photograph ed on his forums. They're saying that under her fingernails they found DNA and the DNA was a pertended al match to the mckinnon na. But because of those Marks on mk, that's why prosecutors are looking at him for the murder. Doctor mckinney josh molins had no defensive wounds, according to the prosecution.
Yeah, it's interesting because you have father and son, so so you need that extra bit of evidence to kind of put the pieces together if what the prosecution is saying is is correct. Um so there was also video evidence that prosecutors .
mentioned yes. So the prosecution says that the dentist told several people that mk left the house overnight, but security video taken from neighbor's homes shows that mk truck was leaving at eight thirty A M. Amber was last scene in the living room around seven. So the timing that the prosecutions lang out here is that the murder happens sometime after seven A M.
The prosecution also pointed to M, K, machines, mental condition.
That's right. So this filing by the prosecution says that he had, quote, a history of violent output and mental instability. IT also says that he had, quote, hard voices telling him to kill himself, and that he talked about some dark voices taking control and telling him to do bad things. They also pointed to a time in which mk allegedly pull a knife on someone while drinking at a party.
One of things that stood out us was his own state about his inability control was the instances where is trigger and couldn't couldn't control themselves, which is consistent, what we believe in hard. We should note that the defenses these allegations come .
from one source knife is not single other person who supports that story.
So that sounds like a lot happened at this hearing. Was mk.
there he was. He was there. I did have a view of mk, and he was pretty stoic.
You know, he was interested in what was happening. The court room was full. There was a camera there, lots of media attention.
Amber's family, i'm assuming, was there.
They were there. All of them. There were friends and family who knew Amber and knew her well, they are supporting, and there were also people there that never were able to meet her. They were just there because our case resonated so much for them that they wanted to show their support.
Okay, so what did the judge decide as far as a lowering m case bond?
He said that the machines had the ability to post his bond, and you know that they didn't. And he said the bond will stay at five million.
So many unanswered questions in this one. Rachel will be, keep in an eye IT, and we look forward to your updates going forward. Thank you. Up next, the atlantic trial of a well known rapper produced viral moments and controversy, and then all of a sun is unraveled. For our next story, we're heading to an atlantic courtroom where last week we saw the dramatic conclusion to the longest running trial in georgia history, at least for one of the defendants. Wrap superstar Young thug in twenty twenty two. Fulton county prosecutor funny willis accused the rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, of being a gang kingpin. SHE charged him with a tearing, said the gangs had been involved in murder. And the key to her case, the .
musician's own songs, I got something do with Better. You decide to admit .
your crimes over a beat.
I'm going you for two and a half years. Young thug SAT behind bars as his trial, which involved more than two dozen co defendants, dragged on. Then suddenly, last week, in a move that surprised everyone, he took a plea deal, his fans on tiktok were delighted. I never thought I see the day Young dog is Young dog is free .
here to talk about what .
that free dom might look like and how Young thug ended up. Here is journalist David Dennis junior, who covers pop culture for E S. P, and also lives in a tana. David, thanks for being here.
Thanks for me.
Let's talk about what Young thug was on trial form if .
you um you know believe the the real case Young G A sort of the head of the snake that extends throughout um you know law swathe criminality and atlantic which the D S tie to crime in the city and has sort of put that at the feet of Young dog and .
Y S L E that's a record .
label yeah is the idea that he is the head of this uh. Crime syndicate uh this record labor why I sell that has done, uh you know a lot of crime and violence in the city so .
the criminal acts the prosecution said Young thug h committed included he received stolen property of gun, made a gangs sign with his hand and photos posted on social media, rented a car that was allegedly used to commit a murder. And we're talking about twenty seven co defendants in this case, which is just unbelievable.
Yeah, yeah. I mean, this is a huge case. This is a huge rowling case and there are still a few people were still on trial the lyrics .
in his song's funny willis was pointing to guilt based on those lyrics yeah .
I mean rap on trial is a huge issue um that is gone back uh many years that is a danger slippy slope and hip hop. There's a lot of people who make clear you could if you based you know crimes on lyrics, almost every rapper, not even just rapper, a lot of musicians to themselves would code a tale to base a like criminality on like fictional characters is extremely dangerous.
This trial really has been dogged with controversy. Yeah.
I mean, it's been a mess. Like there's no way the way to put there has been music judges. There's been lawyers who have been also there have been viral testimonies from to the guy said he was high on the stand first, said he didn't know when he was born and things like that.
I mean, this has been as messy a court cases as you can imagine. If IT wasn't such a serious case, this would be something like out of an episode of the TV showed this was was really around the city of atlantic, the big water cooler talk. The barber shop. I mean, my barber shob had the trial on twenty four, seven when I was in there.
Do we know what exactly happened? resulted. Finally, as we saw longest a trial and state history. And now we have this plea deal.
Part of this comes out of a this sort of colombia thing that happened a couple of weeks ago, which they had a witness sort of read out an instagram caption, and I had the .
hatch. So two of Williams, sa code defendants, go by the name quay and the jury wasn't supposed to know that they or any of the defendants have been locked up in months before and during the trial that mistake possibly tainted to the jury.
yes. So the defense was trying to a make an argument that this was a presidential um factor in this that the jury found out that somebody was in jail. They are trying to keep the jury sort out of that that information um and that really LED to a moment where both sides sort of saw that the pleasure may be the crickets way and maybe the best way to .
get out of what exactly did Jeffery Williams played guilty to .
so what he has played guilty to was participation in again, he played to goes that three drug charges, two gun charges. He also pleaded no contest a to the charges of being the leader in the game and conspiring to violate the rick.
And so to break IT down, he's not admitting that the state is correct about his record label being gang with him at the top, but he's also not going to fight them in court any longer.
basically kind of so .
Young dog put his fate in the judge's hands. Did he make a statement at all?
yes. So he made about a ten minute of speech. He did apologize.
He thanked the judge being fair, said he learned a lot in the last two and a half years that he's been blocked up. I know the impact I get on people, period in the community. I learned that late.
Maybe I was because I was. Know, probably on drugs. I don't know. He cracked a couple of jokes. He talked about the balls, body, body over time, and he said he would hope you never see the judge again. I hope that you allow me to go home the day and and just trusting me to just do the right thing and never see you again. And this is, unless this that you know, bar in the future of some, now prompt them, I would be in this type of situation again.
So the judge decided his sentence, what does he do?
He gave time served, which we've been to a half years and then fifteen years of probation on top of that. And if he violates their probation, there is a twenty years since that sort of hanging over his head so he gets to walk free but um it's going to be a really chAllenging next fifteen years for him.
Here's a lot of restrictions on him about what he can cannot .
do yeah I mean, like he can't be an attack a where is from unless the funeral things like that. He cannot, quote, quote, promote game activity in his music or paying around on any critical game. Members accepted, like his brother and janna, who is a collaborator, and he is subjected to search and seizure at any point over the next fifteen years and was, to me, uh, that feels like a hill in itself like that.
It's not jail, but IT does feel that feels dangerous. I mean, like what are things that you say that promotes, again, activity in your music, right? And it's sort up to somebody's um direction?
Or is there any public outcry that he got off too easy?
A lot of the public outcry is about the trial itself, the fact that this trial has taken so long um and and is taken a lot of resources, there's really nothing to show for you know there's no belief that the streets of the land are any safer.
David on a junior, thank you for your inside into this case, we appreciated.
Thank you.

Welcome back joining me for this week's date line round up as deadline producer susie son. Hey, so, hey, so we are opto master husein with some news. In the current read case, listeners will, of course remembers the woman accused of killing her boston police officer boyfriend john, okay, in twenty twenty two by drunken eny backing her car into him.
Read went on trial this spring, but the jury was hung and a mistral was declared on july first. Both teams are gearing up for a second trial. So tell us what is new so well this week.
actually, on wednesday, kn. Reads a church, and the prosecutors appeared before messages. Is highs core for a hearing here.
here.
S. J, C, one, three, six, six, three, commonweal, proses.
care and reed. And this becomes after the mistral was declared, the defense team said they heard from multiple jurors who told them that the jury unanimously agreed that kent reid was not guilty on two of counts against you. The difference team are clear that they should be acquitted on these two charges.
They should be dismissed. Appeal goes to the core issues regarding double jeopardy protections that safeguard defendants. In this case.
prosecutors got up and said, no, no way to end. You sure spoken up and often core when the mission was declared. And those were the arguments made on in the supreme judicial court. Ma has hundred twenty to make a decision after hearing these oral arguments.
So the prosecution is trying to keep things as they are. When we go to trial a second time january.
that's exactly say they I have that retrial in january because both sides actually found a joint motion on monday. So to the judge, could we please have an extension? They're asking both the defense, the process issue for the trial not to start until April first.
Thank you for that updates. So for our next story, we are off to northern Virginia. We have been following closely the case of the brazilian oai who was charged with murder.
right? The victims in the case when the mom the brazil pair was working for in another ban, a total stranger, most of them were found dead in the family home in the doubt of the family brand and band film has been charged with killing the mom is why Christine and that on a man named Joseph ryan, prosecutors said, adventist power to kill is White. And the oai was .
in on IT last week. The big news was at the apparent Juliana moguls pleaded guilty to manslaughter. And now we have new information.
our daily ground team, but their hands on boni camford ge, from the officers who first respond IT to the same. The appear, you may remember, was the one to calm none, one one on the body camp. You can see her gats being SHE seems to rouge. She's turned to officers.
Take a, okay.
okay.
want tell me, ick, what happens?
He tells them that he saw jose, a, brian, Steven, Christine and IT brand shot .
him to defend his way. And no prosecutors say that story is not true. They say that the apparent was covering for Brendan, who they say lord Josephine and that stranger to the home through a fetish website, and they said tried to frame this stranger for his wife's murder.
That's right. And we haven't heard, of course, brand inside of things yet, but the appear says she's gonna testify against him. It's part of a plea agreement that he made last week.
okay. Finally, we're headed to delphi, inDiana for the trial of Richard Allen. He is the man accused of fatally stabbing to middle school girls in twenty seven teen.
Yeah, it's been another intense weaker metric. The jury got to see over a dozen video of Allan imprison from the time when he gave more than sixty confessions, and when the offence says that he was in great mental distress. And we know they included footage of valon being placed, eating faces and being transported for medical treatment, the defense was pushing their point at the confession toward product of some kind of psychotic break. They weren't real.
Any other big witnesses.
There was also a tool market expert, tiki, and and raise concerns about the analysis of the state's examiner, who had said that the bullet found at the crown scene had cycled true. Allen's gone, and that's a big one, because the bullet is really the only physical evidence that the prosecution has to tie alone.
You really big point. In this case, the offense rusted wednesday morning, so will keep you updated as this trial comes to a close. So thank you for coming back on round up.
Thanks, Sandy. It's always .
great to do IT. There is something that nearly all deadline episodes have in common. Someone is lying. IT could be a murderer lying to police about an alibi, or a husband lying to his wife about an affair. Sometimes IT could be a detective lying to suspect to get information.
So for our final story this week, we wanted to find out, how can you tell if someone is lying to you, if someone is deceiving you? We asked former secret service agent evy pomp porus, who conducted her fair share of polygraph c exams for some tips. Hey, heavy, thanks for coming back.
Thanks for having me. People lie. Sometimes they are harmless, sometimes their White lies, sometimes they're big lies that can really impact your life in a negative way. How can you read people in a way to know if their lying to you or not?
First, there are three primary ways people lie. One way is they'll tell you full online. The second way they tell you a lie is they will tell you a lie.
Sprinkle in a little truth than a little lie and a little truth. The third way people, the most common way people lie is they lie by omission. I'll tell you this part here, but i'm onna.
Leave this part out. So how can you catch this behavior with people? The first thing I want to say is we have to know people's base lines, who are they Normally when they're not threatened, when they're in a relax mode.
Now when you start asking people uncomfortable questions or questions where you start thinking, I wanna know, you know, what is my significant others last night. Am I looking at my significant others baseline? sure.
Because i'm going to see deviations. We all kind of the people that are close to our orbit, we kind of know when things are all trust IT. Just pay attention and then start asking follow up questions.
What type follow up questions would you ask?
Tell me more about that. Be curious. And so if you see them struggling to answer your question or they consistently don't wanted answer IT, now you know there's a problem with this question.
When you interview people and teenagers are king and queen, when they do this, they make you feel stupid. That's a dumb question I already told you. I can't believe you asking me this.
Those are red flags. Not look doesn't mean that persons lying. no.
But you should ask yourself, why? Why is your response so strong to something simple that I ask? Often people do this to get you to back down. Another super common thing is answering a question with the question to me, stalling tactic.
Um so that's verbal. What about, uh, body language?
The problem with body language is the narrative is, oh, they looks up into the right. They're making up the live IT. Absolutely not true. Think about this way. We are so uniquely different.
How can you actually put somebody in the box as as what they're going to physically do in a line scenario? Can some people give you cues? yes.
So if you ask me a question and the whole time were talking, my hands are down, i'm not putting them up to my face, and then all of a sudden my hand goes up to my mouth. Before I answer, you shouted that moment, say, that is super weird. Does that mean i'm lying? no.
IT could mean, though, that's an comfortable question for me. I contact to for some people, not all. I've interviewed so many people, and i've had many of people look me in the eye all day long and lie, lie, lie. That's the big .
one that you hear about, is that someone will look down or they won't look, look you in the eye if they're .
like some can. Again, just because somebody does IT IT doesn't mean everybody's a liar. Pay attention.
And you know, I also think people should just trust their instincts. IT feels after you IT probably is, just listen to IT. Yes.
all right. What I love about these tips, or that you can use IT in your everyday life. So thank you. I absolutely that's IT for this episode of date line through crime weekly next week, the conclusion of a trial that's riveted minnesota did the man who admitted to long enforcement that he was in factual with the gabby poto case murder the mother of his children to find out more about the cases covered on the show had to our website, date line, true crime weekly dark com.
