Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, Biswajit Pegu, held a meeting with representatives of trade and commerce to address concerns of small business and shop owners after the government decided to lift COVID-19 lockdown restrictions from Monday. Clarifying doubts over which shops would be open and if shops in market complexes can be opened, the deputy commissioner said that all shops in market complexes and malls to remain shut. Some of the other decisions taken at the meeting are: Only stand alone shops to be open Only one-third of the shops to be open. Meaning if there are three shops in a row, only one to be open. All shops to remain shut on Sundays and Mondays. Building owners have been given the responsibility to decide on which shop to open and ensure that a proper roster is maintained.The administration has requested building owners to either waive off the rent or reduce the rent amount. However, representatives of certain trade associations do not seem happy about the 'only one-third shops to open' norm. There are over 65,000 retailers and over 1200 wholesalers in and around Guwahati. The norms would apply to retailers as well as wholesalers. The meeting was attended by representatives of 35 trade and commerce associations of Kamrup district.

Youngster from Assam has died from COVID-19 in Mumbai. Mohammad Badaruddin from Hojai passed away at Saint George Hospital in Mumbai. He died on Sunday late night. He was admitted to the hospital after he complained of diarrhoea and abdominal pain.
26 nationals from Bangladesh have been taken into custody in Dhubri, Assam. They were on their way to Bangladesh from Jorhat in upper Assam. The men in two vehicles were detained on Sunday. They did not have passed to travel during lockdown. "While they (the Bangladeshi citizens) themselves are claiming that they have come to Assam to work in various sectors of the fishing industry," claim reports.

An essay by Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, a Nagaon-based industrial economist is now part of Department of Religion's course material at Harvard University. The essay titled Unique features of Srimanta Sankaradeva's religious philosophy Vivaratanvâda: Comparison with other Sanâtana Hindu philosophies was uploaded in his blog a decade ago. "But I found out last week when the university uploaded a part of the treatise as Religion S-1010 probably because of pandemic-related online dissemination of course," the scholar told media.
