Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday expressed his condolence towards those who died due to police firing in the anti-CAA protests in the city. Speaking exclusively to THE SENTINEL DIGITAL, Gogoi said that the people of Assam have now started realizing that both BJP and its ally AGP’s are opportunistic political parties, therefore, there has been a mass movement against BJP’s authoritarian regime.
In a first, Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden and wildlife NGO Aaranyak successfully carried out hatching of two Greater Adjutant chicks, a member of stork family, commonly known as Hargila in Assam. The breeding was carried out in an artificial platform within an enclosed area of a zoo. Called ‘Hargila’ (one which swallows bones) locally, the Greater Adjutant Stork is a scavenger whose role in the food chain is crucial. However, owing to its bad odour and loud sound, people drive it away, or worse, kill it.
Animals in Guwahati zoo can now expect some respite from the winter chills. Zoo officials have made special arrangement of heaters for tigers and lion. Paddy straw have been arranged for comfort of deer and other the animals, informed officials.
The state government has banned strikes by employees and staff working in the oil and gas sector for a period of six months from December 31 onward. Strikes by the officers, workmen, contract labourers, drivers and their helpers of tankers in the sector have been prohibited under the Essential Services Maintenance (Assam) Act, 1980, informed the government.
Manipur which has stared implementing Inner Line Permit (ILP) to those coming into the state has issued 163 permits on the first day. 330 advance application forms were received. ILP will be applicable in the entire state. Those who are not indigenous people of the state or permanent residents of the state will have to apply for ILP which will be issued for 15 days.
At least 100 babies have died in JK Lon Hospital in Kota Rajasthan this month alone. More than 900 babies had died in 2019. The hospital has been plagued by infant deaths for many years now. Investigations have shown that most equipment of the hospital were defunct and that there was acute shortage of staff. Investigating agencies also found broken windows and pigs roaming inside the premises.
Wife divorced for committing adultery will not entitled for maintenance. Bombay High Court dismissed a petition filed by a divorced woman challenging a Sessions Court order that cancelled the allowance she was entitled to post divorce. The lower court had rejected her plea under section 125 of code of criminal procedure.
The Ministry of Defence announced the selection of 22 tableaux proposals for Republic Day Parade 2020. A total of 56 proposals were received for consideration. A circular from the ministry mentioned that the tableau proposal of Govt. of West Bengal was examined by the Expert Committee in two rounds of meetings, but did not make the cut.
Dami Kohli, a Hindu refugee from Pakistan, who fled the country after facing religious persecution in Pakistan, was informed by her school that she will not be allowed to appear for her exams. The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education has asked her to provide eligibility certificate to appear for her 12th exams next year. State Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara assured her and her family that the government will ensure that she can appear for her exams, and if required rules will be changed.
