Hello, my beautiful friends, and welcome back to the Claim Your Power podcast, the ultimate show for all things spirituality, self-love, and personal development. I'm your host, Kim Perez. I'm a two-time author, content creator, yoga teacher, and entrepreneur. You are at the right place if you're ready to tap into your gifts, unleash your potential, and become your higher self. It's time to claim your power.

Hello, my friends, and welcome back to another episode of Claim Your Power podcast. So I'll start off this episode in saying that as I'm filming this, it's the new moon. And so I thought, what better...

episode topic today to talk about spiritual hygiene and how to protect your energy because especially during new moons and full moons, you might feel like your energy is shifting a little. You might feel like things are coming up, triggers, you're overwhelmed, anxious, you feel like you need to rest or maybe it's the opposite. You feel more energized, more

open it really depends on you and also with your cycle if you're a woman because my menstruation is actually synced up with the new moon so usually on the new moons I'm feeling more introverted I want to rest more I want to sleep more I'm feeling a bit more emotional and then full moons are when I feel magnetic I feel strong I feel abundant because that's synced up with my ovulatory cycle

So it's really cool if you're a woman to actually learn what part of your cycle is synced up with the phase of the moon because it's really going to help you learn more about your emotions and your energy levels. And I won't get too much into that in this episode, but if you guys want me to do a whole episode just like on how to sync your cycle with the moon and like all the cycle syncing things that I do with that, let me know because I love talking about that.

All those witchy things. But today we're talking about spiritual hygiene. So I want to share with you guys the things that I do in my life to really help me maintain and protect my energy.

Because at the end of the day, somebody who is strong and powerful and magnetic is somebody who knows how to keep their energy high and aligned no matter what. It's somebody who is emotionally intelligent and strong that you do not let other people affect your own happiness and your emotional state. And so I want to share with you guys my tips that have really helped change my life. I actually used to be someone... I'm very sensitive and

I think that that's a good trait nowadays, but as a child, I would get told that I'm very sensitive and that I'm too empathic and all of that. I used to think for a long time that it was this bad thing to be someone who experiences emotions and can feel things very deeply because that's really who I am. Over the years, I've learned how to turn that into my strength.

And I think that really embodies in like all the work that I do now because I'm able to be vulnerable and share my journey online and that really helps other people around the world. But I used to see that as a weakness.

And so over the years, I had these limiting beliefs that I felt too much and I was too sensitive and I was a people pleaser and da da da. And then in the past few years when I was really going deep in my own healing and my own journey, I've realized that it's a good thing. And so if you're someone who feels very deeply, who's sensitive,

who takes things to heart, that's a beautiful thing. It's just you gotta learn how to protect your energy and maintain your own stable emotional state so that you do not let other people, other people's stories, sorrows, other people's struggles really seep on your energy. Because when you're someone who's very empathetic,

When you're an empath, it's really easy to, you know, be super empathetic and really resonate with other people's struggles or sorrows or miseries and sometimes take it up on your own. And it's super important if you're that type of person to learn that spiritual hygiene and to learn how to protect yourself so that you can be there for other people but not take up their burdens. So the first tip that I have for you when it comes to maintaining good spiritual hygiene is learning how to say no to

and saying yes only when you mean it. And I think this is one of the greatest pieces of advice that I was given. I was actually, when I was in therapy for a couple of years, that's something that my therapist taught me, to say yes only when you mean it and to be able to say no and not feel guilty about it. And that's

this one tip will change your life and it will change your energy levels because if you're someone who's very empathic, very loving, very generous, you'll tend to overgive to people around you. Overgive in your friendships, in your romantic relationships, and although you think that you come off as someone who's very generous and loving, which you are, it could also give off this desperate energy of,

You don't respect yourself. You don't value yourself. And you're actually being of disservice to yourself when you're doing that. You cannot expect yourself to be able to fill up everyone's cup, give everything to everyone, but eventually leave nothing with yourself.

So what I've done in my own life is I started viewing the word yes as something that is full body. When I say yes to going out to coffee with a friend or when I say yes to helping someone or when I say yes to going to this event or to working with this company, it's a full body yes. I genuinely want to do it and I mean it. And so my energy is coming from this place of yes, I want to do it. Yes, this is aligned with me. So I'm going through with it.

And I have reached a place in my life which I hope that you guys eventually take from this episode and apply to your own life is...

I have no shame in saying no to things that aren't right for me because I have made my number one intention and priority in life my joy and my happiness. And so when I say no to something in my life, it's because in that moment, I'm saying yes to my joy, to my peace of mind, to my own self-love, and that is incredibly valuable to me.

And so being able to say no to people and to things that you do not genuinely mean. If you don't actually want to go out to that event or that party, say no. If you don't actually want to go and sit for two hours with that friend, say no. If you don't feel comfortable going out of your way and doing that favor to someone because it's going to take a lot of your energy and you don't necessarily think that that friend deserves that, then say no. You do not owe anything to anyone except you owe things to yourself.

And I'm not saying like in the sense of like you're a bad friend, you're a bad partner, you're a bad sibling. Like no, to the people who are there for you and the people that have shown you that they deserve your access to your energy and they are there for you and they are loyal and they are compassionate and they are there as a beacon of light in your life, you should be there for them. Like you should show up with that energy the same way that you want other people that love you to show up for you. Thank you.

But you have to really assess who deserves that treatment for you because people do not get access to the highest version of you right away.

And when you give people in your life access to the best version of you, to the most generous, to the most loving, to the most loyal, generous, amazing version of you, when they haven't proven themselves to deserve it, when they haven't proven that they're actually aligned to receive that version of you, you're disrespecting yourself. So learn how to say no in life and learn how to protect your energy and learn how to say yes when you mean it. Say yes when you genuinely want to do things. Second spiritual hygiene tip is learn how to

physically and spiritually cleanse your energy. And the way that I like to do that is through meditation. And I actually have my own angel energy meditation that you can download in my stand store and I'll leave it in the episode notes if you guys want to get it. But it's a really short three minute meditation where I just take you through a visualization of

cleansing your energy and covering up your auric field with a protective shield and it just leaves you feeling so good and I like to do that meditation every single day in the morning. It's three minutes, it's simple and it really helps me cleanse my energy and I think something really important to know is something that you guys have to understand about energy and this is like quantum physics is energy cannot be created nor destroyed.

This is science. And so when you are having interactions with people, when you are meeting people, when you're in the supermarket, when you're on a walk, when you're in a classroom, when you're on a date, da-da-da, you're exchanging energy with that person. And what happens a lot of the time is we pick up other people's energies and we're not even aware to it.

And so sometimes when we feel down or we feel emotional or low, it might not even be our energy and vice versa. Maybe we go out with someone and their energy is just so good and open and pure. And so you pick up that happy energetic frequency.

And so becoming aware of who you're spending your time with and what type of energies you're picking up and then learning how to clear it and transmute it, it's super important. So if you're seeing that you're in line at the grocery store and you're noticing that the cashier is just rude or unkind to you or just...

someone is just standing in line and super impatient and you find yourself picking up that energy, you need to be able to cleanse that energy. Same goes for like if you're stuck in traffic and you just see people honking all the time and you're just picking up this like more bad, low energy, being able to notice that type of energy but not take it up on your own or if you did feel like you took it up, being able to cleanse it by telling yourself the affirmation, I release any energy that is not of my own

And may any energy that is less than love leave my field now. And doing cord cutting meditations is also super powerful. And I love to do it. Or Honoponopono is super powerful where all these techniques are just energy clearing modalities that I love to do. And so try them all out. See what works for you, what feels good and aligned with you. Because being able to clear your energy wherever you go, like,

I suggest doing this every single night and every single morning, even if it's just you looking in the mirror every single morning and telling yourself you're clearing up your energy or before you go to bed, just closing your eyes and telling yourself, I release any energies that I picked up today that are less than love and just imagining yourself covering up your auric field and your body with a white bubble of light is super powerful. It's super cleansing and you will start seeing a shift in your own energy.

Another thing that I really like to do is taking long walks outside in order to ground in nature. I think this is like an amazing spiritual hygiene tip for you guys that I

that I honestly do almost every single day. You could do this with music, but I found recently, one time I actually, my AirPods were dead, so I wasn't able to like listen to music on my walk. And I don't know how to explain it, but my energy, I felt a shift and I felt a lot more present when I wasn't listening to music on my walk. And so maybe try that out going on like a 20 minute walk, just outside listening to the nature noises. Or if you do want to listen to music, maybe instead of like

you know, pop culture music. You could listen to like frequency music. Or another thing that I really like to do is walking meditations. And an app that I really like to use is the Superhuman app. This isn't even sponsored, by the way. I just really love the app. I think it's awesome. And if you don't want to get the app, you can also just Google on YouTube walking meditations. There's so many. And I think...

Feel your max with Brooks running and the all new ghost max too. They're the shoes you deserve designed to streamline your stride and help protect your body. Treat yourself to feel good landings on an ultra high stack of super comfy nitrogen infused cushion that takes the edge off every step every day. The Brooks ghost max too. You know, technically they're a form of self care Brooks. Let's run there. Head to brooksrunning.com to learn more.

It really is life changing. I don't know how to explain it, but just going outside and grounding and breathing the fresh air. And even if you could just take a pause like at a park and sit on the grass and maybe take off your shoes and ground your feet into the earth.

You will be charging your body because our bodies need nourishing too. It's part of us. And when we nourish our body, we also nourish our soul. And so taking the time to disconnect, to be here in the now, to be present, and to do that self-care will really change your energy levels. Another tip that I have for you guys is disconnecting from social media is one of the best things that you can do for spiritual hygiene.

And I have to be honest and say that that's something that I'm still learning as I go because...

I love creating content and I love being active on social media, but at the same time, I'm someone who really likes to keep a lot of things to herself and I don't necessarily love to be scrolling all the time on social media. I'm more someone that enjoys creating than actually consuming content, but I find myself a lot of the time just spending time scrolling and not even seeing how much time has passed. And so I've become really aware of that and how that affects me and kind of drains my energy.

And so recently I've been implementing more time for me and less time on social media, especially on weekends. And this is something that actually...

is really connected to Judaism. And if you guys don't know, I am Jewish, like I grew up Jewish, and I wouldn't say that I'm very religious in that sense, but there's still a lot of cultural things that I really connect with with my Middle Eastern culture. And there is a concept in Judaism called Shomer Shabbat, which is basically this idea that on

on Shabbos over the weekend, you don't use your phone, you don't use electricity, and you're just present with your family and you're here in the now. And like, I'm not doing that. Like I still use my car over the weekend and I still use the kettle and my phone and stuff like that. But I really like the concept behind it of like,

You are meant to disconnect and you're meant to use the weekend to rest and be here and just do that spiritual hygiene for yourself. And I have some friends in my life who are doing that, who do not use their phone every single weekend, like from Friday night up until the end of Saturday night.

and they love it and it really replenishes them it allows them to be present and it's really inspiring for me to see like from a non-religious perspective because I am very spiritual but I'm not necessarily all about religious rules it's cool to see the cultures that do align with me and the

traditions that are aligned with me because that's something that I'm trying to implement in my life. So just recently this week, I kind of made it an intention for myself that over the weekends, I would really try to limit my time on social media, especially on Saturdays, just taking that day off for myself.

And also not making it like black or white for me, like not making it super harsh that if I do end up scrolling through Instagram for 10 minutes on Saturdays, I don't shame or guilt myself. But just making that intention to have more balance of being here and present over the weekend is really great. And you'll also notice that when you don't use social media, for example, the first hour that you wake up, and this is a rule that I have in my life, is I don't scroll my phone the first hour that I wake up.

wake up, I meditate, I journal, I drink some tea, I'm here with myself, I do not go on my phone and that changed my life. That one habit changed my energy completely because when you wake up and you straight away go on your emails and go on Instagram and go on TikTok and respond to all your texts and

you're not actually connecting to yourself. You're connecting to the collective energy. And so you're like jumping right into the day. And I think it's super important to learn how to start off your day slowly, especially if you're someone who leads a very busy life, who owns a business, who's a student or is a mother or just has a lot of things going on in your life. Being able to take even just 20 minutes in the morning for yourself to be here in the now is really great. So ask yourself this.

What is my relationship with social media? What is my relationship with technology and my phone? And do I feel good around it? Am I happy with where it's at right now? And if I'm not, how can I change it and shift it for the better? What are some changes that I can make that work for me in my life? Even if it's just deciding that one small habit of like, right when I wake up, I'm not going on my phone for 20 minutes. Or

Or on the weekends, I am going to limit my phone time for just an hour. Something like that.

everything for you. A few more tips that I have for you that are just more simple and I don't have to go that deep into them is physical exercise is amazing for cleansing your energy because it really helps you drop into the body. When you drop into the physical body, you drop back into your energy. So it's super powerful if you're ever feeling drained or overwhelmed, going, releasing that dopamine, doing some yoga, Pilates, going on a walk, running,

lifting weights, whatever feels good for your body. But just doing that even for 20 minutes can really get your heart pumping and connect to your physical body and just being present. Every time you're being present, you're cleansing your energy. Another spiritual hygiene tip that I don't know if anyone like talks about a lot, but it really is powerful in my opinion is

is using salts and Himalayan salts because Himalayan salt is actually known to detoxify air and detoxify energy and it has a lot of mineral properties and it purifies the air and the energy around. I actually have a salt lamp and I love to use it during night time. I turn it on and

And I feel like it purifies the energy in my apartment. I don't know how to explain it. But if you don't have a salt lamp and you don't want to get one, you could also just take Himalayan salt bath or just get Himalayan salt and use it to just cleanse your energy. It's awesome. I think it's super powerful. One more thing that I want to mention, one last spiritual hygiene tip.

that is less of like a physical thing that you can do, but just more of, you know, a spiritual concept that you can start implementing in your life is be the observer of energy rather than the absorber. And this is something that I live by. It's this idea that

You can become an observant of the things and the energy and the people and the emotions that are around you. And you do not have to take it up always. You can observe it and release it. And a lot of time what we do is we just absorb everything that we're experiencing around us. But if you can become more conscious of like, okay, this is the type of energy that I do want to absorb. It's good energy. So I'm going to absorb it. I'm going to take it up.

But if you're around, let's say a friend and she's struggling, she's ranting and you're there for her, you can be that good friend and be present with her, but you do not have to pick it up. You don't have to absorb that energy. You could be kind and generous and helpful, but also realize that that's not your burden to take up. So something that you have to realize when you're learning the spiritual hygiene and protecting your energy is,

Your only responsibility in life is cleansing and protecting your own energy. And you must do everything in your power to keep your energy balanced and keep your energy high and good frequency. That should be your goal in life. And it is not your responsibility to absorb other people's burdens, to take up other people's problems. That wouldn't make you...

powerful person. It would make you a victim of your circumstances. And if you want to step into your power in life, you have to realize that this is your life. It is not your responsibility to save other people, to take up other people's issues. The only thing that's your responsibility is making you feel good and doing the things and the actions and the habits and spending your time and energy around

the things that truly empower you. Beautiful souls, thank you so much for joining me in today's episode. Feel free to leave a review or DM me any topic suggestions.
