The #goals are important is what we understand.

The goals need to be #SMART where

S means #specific

M means #measurable

A means #Attainable and #Actionable

R means #relevant

I have seen people using #realistic also for R here which somehow have the same meaning as #attainable and they miss on a very important point which is checking for #relevancy parameter.

Relevant means the goals should directly #benefit you and should be related to your field and should add up to your #betterment.

Here, there can be a #situation where one person can have multiple goals. We should not be putting in #efforts where we are not getting results. Then, which goals need to be followed? we can use two ways:

1.) #Effort vs #Value matrix Simply have a 2 by 2 matrix as shown in the picture where effort is mentioned on the #vertical axis and value is mentioned on the #horizontal axis. Divide it boxes as low and high on both axes.

Now start putting your goals as per the effort you will have to put in in comparison to the value you will get. The goals which give high value in comparison to low efforts are the goals that you need to pursue as your #longtermvision.

2.) #Pareto #principle It is also called the 80 20 principle which means 20 % of your goals will give 80% of the results. So, choose that 20% of the goals which need to be #focused on as these will be the most relevant goals to follow.

The other way to look at it is to dedicate 80 % of your time to 20 % of the goals which are aligned with your vision and the rest 20 % of the time to the goals which are general goals. It will help you to focus and align your resources to 80% of the goals which in the end will help you to achieve your goals and you are still keeping some space for new experiments that you want to try out. Once this is clear your action plans, to-do list, and other resources can be managed accordingly.
