A monocle was a single lens that was still in use until the beginning of last year. It served as a visual aid and was either held by hand in front of one of the two eyes or clamped to the corresponding eye. The monocle often hung on a chain, which was then attached to a piece of clothing.
Today, compared to glasses, a monocle seems a little old-fashioned, impractical and not quite mature, like an old technology. But if you look at it from the user's point of view, it was or still is an improvement on the situation of not having any visual aids at all. It seems to me that we are very spoilt in our western world, where a lot of things run at an enormously high technical level with great reliability, and are therefore not satisfied with somewhat inferior but still perfectly functional solutions. Ultimately, however, we are not doing ourselves any favours with this attitude. How do you feel about that?
I wish you an extraordinary day!
