In recent months, we’ve seen staggering numbers of layoffs in the news, and how this has affected many of our friends working in corporate. To provide additional support and resources, we invited Matt Ogawa, the Vice President of HR Business Partners at Meta Inc., to help shed some light on the other side of the layoffs conversation. You may be wondering: Could I have improved my performance to prevent a layoff? How early do companies know that layoffs are in the pipeline? And what’s the best way to respond to interview questions when you’re asked about your previous role?

Matt’s team at Meta focuses on organizational design, talent management, and leadership coaching. He’s also involved in many facets of the API community and is the Executive Advisor for Meta’s API resource group. Having been on both sides of the layoff process, he knows how difficult these situations are for impacted employees.
