Updates to Dollar-Value Indexes
When trying to select for several traits that influence profitability at once, many cattlemen turn to the American Angus Association’s Dollar-Value Indexes. Each spring, to keep those relevant to current market conditions, a new year of data — such as ration cost, calf price and grid premiums — are added to the calculations and the oldest data drops off.
That can cause some shifts in numbers and re-ranking of animals.
