Hi, and welcome to happier and hollywood, the podcast about how to be happier, healthier, saying, or more creative, more successful and more productive in a backbiting, superficial, chaotic, unpredictable, fundamentally insane world. I'm liz craft, a TV writer and producer living an ally. And within is my high school friend and writing partners, Sarah.

that's me sarape. On this podcast, we talk about being writers and hollywood, how we baLance a career and friendship, and how to survive the war of the traction that is life in less Angeles.

Today we're gone to talk about why we need recovery time after we get .

note then and take a high will discuss the benefits of remaking your social media feed many benefits .

to we also have a holiday decoration hack and a Christmas ornament recommendation. But first, a couple of updates. First update is that my sister, gretchen rubin, is doing a new course for the new year called habits for happiness. And so you're gona .

do the course I am. I'm so excited about IT. I feel like it's the perfect way to kind of continue on from the happiness project revisited course that I did this year. So i'm signed up. And if you wants to sign up, our listeners get of forty five percent discount.

So that's amazing. Yes, through november thirty though. So you used the code habits, hollywood forty five at courses, dog rich and rubin dog comb slash courses, slash habits for happiness.

I'm sure you can just go to the website and figure out where IT is. Now, sir, I have to ask a question. Have you decided what habits or habits you're going to .

focus on the may in one is movement qualities and hiking. I'll be focusing on polities and hiking, but I am mulling some other ones as well.

Get very excited about this hiking habit.

right? exactly. We can meet in the middle hike.

Yes, I love that. A gore hills baby. Yes.

here we come.

okay. And then also, sir, we wanted to ask listeners for ideas, for gifts, for team. In twins. This holiday season, we did our gift guide episode. But as you and I do our holiday shopping, we realized we really need ideas for teens and twins.

And when you say we really need, I just want to emphasize desperately, because you have a fourteen year turning fifteen. I have a twelve year old, one boy, one girl. There are the hardest possible age.

We have our whole gift list. IT was a bonus episode, not a lot on there for the twin teens, said maybe the your life stuff, but i'm baffled. I find this age of buffalo.

I know I have just been blocking IT out because I just don't even know aside from ca, ny, what to get. So please send us your ideas. We would so appreciate that.

Or at less it's time for from the tread mill desks of where we talk about what's most pressing in our working psyches. And this week, it's preparing ourselves for getting notes, planning for recovery time after we get notes. This is on the pilot that we turned in and I don't know about a month ago to netflix.

So we'll be getting notes possibly this week, possibly not. You never quite know which is I think part of the anxiety around notes is not knowing exactly when they're gonna. But we have learned over these many years that IT takes time to recover from getting notes. Now our job as a jeff bell or old boss told us way back when is to get criticism. That is a huge part of the job, but it's not easy to get for the system.

It's not I do think IT gets easier. Oh, yes, it's a lot easier now than IT was on Angel when we worked with japan, for example.

We don't take that .

personally anymore, yes, which is a huge difference. But also, we've heard that the notes process at netflix can be really intense. So we're not just preparing ourselves for regular notes.

We're going okay. So this is gonna probably a long, complicated process. We don't know.

Are they super details? Are they more general? We just know it's gonna intense .

and sea reaching. And I, on a recent episode of happier grubin, talked about going into shock at time to use someone who tends to go into shock. And that sort of what it's always like getting notes.

You get them and even if they are good notes and in fact, especially when they are good notes, yeah, your body shuts down a bit because you see in front of you all of this work to be done. And we just know we need time to process to get over IT. We never unless we're in the middle of production and things are really tight, we never actually start implementing notes the day we get them.

I just was thinking of sort of a metaphor for this list. You know, when you have a bunch of necklaces with really fine chains and they're all tied together, and you know, at some point you're gna have to separate them and figure IT aloud to make them all pretty again. That's kind of what IT feels like after you get notes is looking at the script and going, okay, this is just a messy jumble of chains that we now have to separate and figure out. And you know, it's not going to be easy. So you put IT off, but your body is just like a yeah and then IT is certain what you just kind of okay if you move into acceptance and then you tackle the chains.

哎呀, it's such a good analogy because it's also very laborious and just method al, the way that untangling changes. You know you just have to blau d the room for the most part, maybe you ll get an inspiration. And that sort of like when one of the chain suddenly comes free and it's so exciting and you're like, yes.

but I think of what we ve found is .

it's nice to talk about the notes kind of between each other. OK, I heard this. Is this what you heard? Okay, this is something has been bothering us, not surprised or that we weren't expecting we kind are mentally processing and then will find the next day we're really ready to go. But if we try to go to actually implement anything before we've had that recovery time, we're really just probably moving.

And and honestly, sometimes it's more than the next day. Yeah, sometimes you'll get a note that's just like, okay, we're going to need a couple days. We're going to need three days. We're going to need the weekend. Sometimes you just have to let IT kind of sit in the back of your head for a while while you just don't think about IT.

That is very true. I mean, this happened recently. We did a practice pitch, gotten notes and afterward were like, oh, wow, these notes are really good and they're making us realized we need to do kind of an overhaul. And we haven't done that yet because we're still in the process of processing we've discussed.

I think we know what we're doing now, but we haven't actually kind of put our fingers on the keyboard.

yes. So anyway, this is us realizing that we need to plan this recovery time made us realized that others would probably also benefit from planning some recovery time. And IT doesn't have to be just for a script that can be a report you ve written or a presentation that you have to do, that you practice for someone or any number of things people have a reaction to. And it's good just not to expect yourself to dive right in, but to take some time afterwards.

All right. Next up, how to happy up your social media feed? But first, this break.

So liz, i'm sure you've noticed the days are shorter, but our to do lists are not power through your busy days with factors, no prep, no mess, meals from breakfast to dinner. Factor has easy, nutritious options to keep you fuel and feeling your best. I always have factor meals in my refrigerator unless I know your a husband.

Adam is a huge fan of factor stake. I personally am a giant fan of their salmon. I always try to eat for brain health, and their salmon is unbelievably delicious a and it's cheaper than take out and dining out had .

to factor meals dot com slash H I H fifty and use code H I H fifty to get fifty percent off your first box and twenty percent off your next month. That's code H I H fifty and factor meals dot com slash H I H fifty to get fifty percent off your first box plus twenty percent off your next month while your subscription is active.

If you're spending time with loved ones for the holiday is, chances are you're going to hear a lot of stories, the ones you d love to hear and the ones you've heard too many times, but if you ever wanted to help your loved ones capture those timeless stories, not just for themselves, but for you, your entire family and future generations, IT can seem daunting to write an entire book of life memories. But stories worth makes that fun and easy. Here's our works each week, story worth emails, your loved one, a thought provoking question that you get to help pick things like what's the bravest thing you've ever done with the farthest you've ever traveled or how did you use to get to school every day? I love story.

Where sera? I given IT to many people that question, how did you use to get to school every day? I love finding out that my dad walked to school from the time he was about five years old. wah.

Help your family members share and capture their stories this holiday season with stories worth go to, story worth dotcoms lash hollywood today and save ten dollars on your first purchase. That's S T O R Y W O R T H dot com flash hollywood to save ten dollars on your first purchase story worth doing. Flash hollywood.

All right there, it's time for take a hike, which we discussed, mental, physical, spiritual, emotional health, all kinds of help. Today I will call this mental health. And our idea is to remake your social media find. Now, this is something you have really been doing quite intensely lately.

I have, and we should say, Andrew a posted about this on our facebook group and got a ton of suggestions and advice about follow. And who do you follow? But yes, I have, in the last couple of weeks, radically altered my entire social media consumption.

I can. I just left for a while, and now i'm going, okay, how am I going to make? This is an experience that is pleasant.

But I also, by the way, don't want you to be one that sucks me in very much. I want to spend a lot less time there. But one of the suggestions on our facebook group that I thought I was great is just to start with unfollowed. The first step is to a page of all of the topics and people that you think are not going to be good for your mental health.

yes. And keep in mind, you can always be follow people if you miss them. There's nothing that's not a forever thing if you want to go back yes, yeah.

And say we have a bunch of ideas for things you can add into your feed for some joy. Now, I have always turned to my social media head for a lot of reality TV content, which I still enjoy IT. I don't feel as much of a need to remake my feet.

I think as you do, I have a lot less political content than you do, although I do count on you to keep me up to date on what's happening, so I might miss that. But the other thing I want to point out is facebook groups. So another way to find joy on social media is to join facebook groups.

I belong to amazon facebook group. I belong to a beautiful table escape facebook group. I belong to the satellite sister's facebook group, of course, happier hollywood facebook group. I do think that is a great way to get feel good content into .

your feet. Uh, hundred percent agree. You know my threads feed has been very focused on politics and journalism, so that's what I am remaking.

But my facebook feed has always been mainly groups. I do secular, home schooling groups, add groups. I do all kinds of fiber related groups, all of that local groups, like the local school system, all of that. So facebook, for me, is already kind of a respect. It's the other stuff I have to remake.

So there will take us through some ideas.

All right? Well, it's funny because the first idea that someone posted in the facebook group was mini cows. What could be Better than mini cows? Yeah, really, who is going to make you happier? What is going to make you happier than just seeing a bunch of, I call them paddy o cows? I think they are so cute. So find the pati OK accounts.

Of course, here I follow numerous corgi accounts. Anytime one pops up, I follow IT.

Well, the funny thing is people posted all of the lighter, more fun people and organizations, and whatever that they follow. And what was revealed is that our facebook group is heavily waited to our dog. People like I was expecting way more cat links.

No, it's like heavily waited toward dogs. Half husky brows, wonder doodles. Good news.

Dog, we rate dogs, which is so great. I love IT. The dog is there is a whole bunch, I should say.

Also, we're going to up at all of these on our facebook group, just a whole list of people and things and whatever to follow. We won't say them all here. We just talk about the big ones that we actually know already.

And of course, there there is a lot of cat content out there. Couple of them are cats being weird little guys and cats doing things.

And some people posted cleaning tiktok and cleaning threads follows, which I think is so interesting that seems very calm and informative. And, you know, so cleaning is an arena to get into. Then, of course, there are just animals in general.

There is one called openly gay animals that sounds hilarious. There is that little pigmy hippo in thailand mode who is just delighting the world right now. And then there are a lots of other related accounts and alpaca related accounts. These are all very popular, highly recommended. H and one bats is, everybody loves one bats, apparently.

Well, don't forget, sloss, I feel like everybody likes to look at slot.

Yeah, you can't go wrong with a good sloth video.

okay? Food, they are up. Many people are turning to food content.

I have to admit, I love watching cake rating videos, you know, where they, like, decorate the cake, and then they rotated, and everything black ends together. And IT gets so pretty. I love those smitten kitchen, apparently has a great site cookie decorating reals on whole underscore fox. That's H L underscore fox. Lots of really fun cooking content.

And then there are some specific people that are giving a lot of a joy these days.

Yes, by all the Davis and Jennifer NER, everybody loves following them, and I feel like just gets a big lift from them. Dan Harris gotta love dan Harris from ten percent happier. Snoop dog, I mean, come on, we should all be following snoop dog brunch with babs.

Doesn't that? I'm fun. I want to go to brunch with babbs. I don't know who babs is yet.

but i'll find out. I hope it's barber stray. And but I don't know.

I don't think IT is sorry. Oh.

i'll check that out anyway. I'm in trial.

And then, of course, tiktok dances. H, I feel like violence spends twenty percent of her day doing tiktok dances. So any kind of tiktok dances videos are fine.

I love a good tiktok dance, not doing IT but watching IT.

Yes oh yes.

And then say there's a whole category out there of just positive news. This is been going on for a while. People just want good uplifting news and there's a lot of places you can get IT up. Worthy is a place that i've followed for years.

Yes, takes good news, some good news, good news movement, that good news girl, there just lots, just look up good news and follow all of those people.

Another category, of course, is design.

Yes, U. S. Interview apparently has something with gorgeous pictures of the united states just looking for positive things all around you that sounds like a good one.

And then travel, there's one for new orleans. Visit new orleans. There's one called the best cities of your like, I could spend some time looking at some beautiful cities.

And then there humor feeds there. Of course, many of these when there are listeners like, is sha the mom and then .

gymnastics? I have to say this is not a category I would have thought of before. But of course, when there is a palma horse, sky, you have to follow him.

I can't remember what his feet is called, but the gym tics medalists from the U. S. A on the paleo SE something.

He's hilarious. And then frederic flips, I just think that's like a fun name. Someone recommended sesame. My street less. I we didn't put that in a category because .

what would that be in its own? But a great idea. Somebody else recommended following all the national park accounts, which is a great idea.

And then we have a lot under the culture category, the national gallery, architectural digest, portrait geek, which I think is funny. Portrait ek has three, is just so. And then this is my favorite in this category is helga tens l which is S T E N T Z E L. She's on facebook. SHE makes images from laundry on a close line, and they are amazing.

That is awesome. I have to follow her. Sera missile's me cute? N yc, I love that one.

Or you just hear about how people met each other, humans of new york. And then k pop groups. Yes.

someone recommended k pop groups because, unlike so many american celebrities, ties, SHE says there's just like willing to be totally silly and engage with their fans, which makes them really fun to follow.

Yeah, of course there are. You know, I love following a style list. I follow a lot of style list. I started with alison bornstein. And then the nice thing is when you follow one, of course, according to the algorithm, others start popping up. So I just kind of follow every stylist that comes my way.

And then I also have to say, doritos gist and plastic surgeons. I'm in the skin care. And then we wrote that pilot about plastic surgeons, which got us deep into the plastic surgery world. So yes.

those two, also, anyone going into home goods and identifying what one should buy comes up in my feed every day. And I love IT. I watched every time.

So I have to say, since I have been really removed from social media, I am much happier. So I do think this will make a big difference in the happiness of a lot of people. Just, yes, pull away from some stuff, embrace all the light hearted fund stuff.

So we'll have all these suggestions in our facebook group, search for happier and hollywood on facebook to join the conversation. But of course, you can find whatever is you you know what you like to watch that makes you feel good. All right, coming up, I have a holiday hollywood hack. The first this break.

Veg E R for pet. Oh, right, my low. We're here. I cannot believe you swallow your whole toy.

Well, you must be.

just get to wait.

No, you stay with your bed. Hi, i'm doctor's turk. Hey milo, i'm going to set on the form with him so he can be more comfortable for the exam.

I wasn't sure how serious IT .

was looking at the expanse. He's going to need surgery. But the good news, he should be OK.

We're lucky. There's a venge.

My E, R, for path opens twenty four seven.

match limited by state law right less. We're back with this week's hollywood hack. This comes from you. Take IT away.

Yes, all right here. Right now, I don't think people turn to me necessarily for decorating hacks or anything domestic, but I happen to have a holiday holleywood hack about holiday decorations. This is something I learned, of course, for my mother, who does beautiful holiday decorations every year.

And I thought IT was something everyone knew. But I was discussing IT with friends. And then I also mentioned IT to you, and you hadn't heard of IT, so i'm GTA share with everybody.

So here's the hack. As you decorate for the holidays, put away year round decoration items in the decoration boxes as you empty them. So let me explain. So we all have things out for us. It's a lot of family photos.

We have a ridiculous number of family, my photos, but with all those photos out, I don't have room for my santas, my Carollers, all of these things. So I am to get out all the boxes. And then as I take stuff out of the box, I will fill IT with all the photographs with, you know, various items.

And what's nice is you have all that wrapping there, because you have all of your decorations wrapped and tissue or paper, whatever. So then I can wrap up the photographs and they don't get destroyed. And then I have so much more room for decorating, and it's really a good system because then when you go back and put your decorations away for the year, you have all the items right there waiting to replace what you take down.

Okay, less. I have to say this hack makes me feel like a total fool, because I can't believe I didn't think of this before. I have been in your mother's and seeing her Christmas decorations more times than I can count, and IT seems so obvious now.

Well, of course, but I am the person who tries to fit my Christmas decorations around the stuff that is already there, which is ridiculous and retroactive CT. Now i'm thinking, why? Why have I done this for you .

my whole adult life? The other thing, decorations don't stand out as much if you have everything else there. Sorry, both makes IT a simpler, easier to decorate.

You can fit more. I have a large collection, but also they stand out more. It's more streamline. It's more pleasing to the eye. And then you point IT out another benefit to me, which is dusting. So in that time when you have no Christmas decorations and no iran decorations, it's a great time to dust, because IT can be such a pain and does when you have all this stuff cluttering your table tops and your shelves. This is the .

perfect time I have for my holiday life. Again, bin, that person is trying to weave gardens around all the stuff on the mental this year. No, that is not happening. Everything comes down. And then i'm just gonna beautiful, clutter free, happy garlands.

Will you post photos of this please? I will, I will.

and I will dust the entire mental before I put the garland on IT.

All right. So I hope that helps people, if that never occurred to you, go forth and decorate at will. I know everyone there is doing their holiday decorating early this year, and I know people who've already started.

So, you know, let's to do IT. And there are speaking of the holidays. You have a holiday recommendation. We are just getting into the spirit.

Here we are. So I have a favorite Christmas ornament designer. His name is Christopher red co.

And I have been collecting his ornaments for a very long time, and it's fascinating because was this whole thing he likes sold his company. Then there was an on compete class. Now he's we launched and he has a new company called heartfully yours Christmas ornament.

He's also called the ornament king. So i'm so excited that I can go back to collecting actual Christopher rad co. ornaments. And there these beautiful blown glass hand painted ornaments. I get one every year this year, because if you listen to this podcast, you know, I have a childhood super into spiders. I got a blown glass spider to put on our Christmas tree that's a Christopher, her ADC o ornament.

I'm so excited about IT, sir. You know, i'm a huge fan of Christopher rax as well as as my entire family. My mom voice has a tree of just Christopher red ornament. So I second this and .

I just have to add, because you actually recently had drinks with Christopher o, which made me extremely jealous. We have a mutual friend. And yes, i'm so you. You were like, i'm going to have dreams with Christopher red ka.

I was like, what? And I didn't haven't sign a book of Christmas decorations that my mom did of her house, which is gorgeous, and I had him sign the book. And that is IT for this episode of happier and hollywood. We love hearing from your email as, or send a voice meo to happier in hollywood, a gmail doctor.
