New M4 Mac mini, MacBook Pro, and iMac reactions

The good news mail is that we didn't spend too long in last thursday s episode speculating about whether they'd be an event because as I was editing the episode, greg jos, we took to twitter to announced that apple would have an exciting week of announcements about the mac for this week, kind of a weird way to tea, what turned out to be a fun, but also kind of weird week, like greg jazz act on his personal twitter account saying, stay tuned for more next week, very odd.

And there was no, like cook for anything, right? IT was just the joes to yeah was a nothing on the news room.

And because apple has a twitter account, but they don't tweet from IT, I don't think they just use IT to run ads actually.

So I guess they don't use the applying to a total moment .

and great josey. Twitter is just such a weird place to do IT because his account is kind of noisy. He's always retweet things and like like and he never he's never in the past shared anything useful.

Like, ever like, I have twitter notifications on for every time tim cook tweet. But great. Josey, no. So I kind of missed IT at first. There wasn't until our colleague Michael berk r put IT in slack like fifteen minutes after jaws twitted IT also like coca p there's the news.

but that .

manifested itself into three days of press releases this week, monday, tuesday, wednesday, press releases with short ten to fifteen minute videos published on apple's website and on youtube for each product. And we ve got started with the imac on monday. So new twenty four h imac powered by the m4 colors are the same as before in terms of naming， but slightly different shades, purple, blue, pink, orange, yellow, Green and silver.

The things about the new colors are that the the backs aren't quite as saturated as before, and that makes them match their names Better. So like the pink looks more pink, not as red as IT used to. In the yellow looks more yellow. And before kinder looked orange, I think these new colors are just, they're fantastic day once again knocked out of the park with the imac color design.

I obviously we have haven't seen these in person yet, but IT seems like with them slightly desaturated bags, they now more closely matched the front color. Right was the older imac was more of two tone. Look where you'd have the more saturate back and then the light of front to go along with the White. Um but now that seems like there's not identical, but the colors on the bacco more closer to the colors on the front. Now at least there were they are heading in that direction .

and the silver is unchanged and there's still no black spaces, gray space, black, anything like that silver in those other six colors yeah .

that I mean, I I kind of I would like them have a blank because I don't White. Can you just do one color which has a black front brazil and just has black round? That would be nice. But they push for world wine.

I refused to complain about the lack of a black I mat color just because I also criticize them so often for not doing fund colors on the macbook line. So to be.

I don't know, wise.

They call colors. They look nice.

The in for ship two configurations, a core GPU, a core CPU with four performance for efficiency or ten core GPU and a ten core CPU with four performance and six efficiency cores. Apple continues its focus in performance comparison's on comparing IT to products from years ago, so six times faster than the most popular intel based imac, one point seven times faster than the imac with in one. But I think what stands out to all of us with this in for imac is that the base RAM is now sixteen gigabits, not a gig bites and it's configurable up to thirty two gig bites by rat.

Sixteen has been a big lamm mark. And as we talk about, we've done that across the whole line, and I wasn't sure this day would ever come.

You we've been up so many years, like I think my little to be a decade, that they have had eight ga bites as the base storage, as the base around, and they finally bumped IT up, probably somehow link to apple intelligence requirements or them thinking, look, if we are I we can just about swingly apple intelligence models in memory while also having distance system performance. But what if we have new models next year, there's slightly bigger wever. So they are giving his head room at the base.

Prices didn't change either, right? So like you buy, you just get in the extra about around for free. And RAM was always like a two hundred upgrade that you kind suggested to do. So now you can save yourself two hundred dollars on RAM? Or what most people do is just plug in into storage or some other upgrade ad.

I think it's holy related tables intelligence because I was telling you before we started recording that like on my iphone, which eight a bizarre when I use clean up, IOS gets so aggressive and killing background processes just because whatever clean up is doing is so intensive that is pushing the a gigabit iphone RAM to its limit.

So to release a mac which needs more ramp than a iphone to begin with, a mac with eight go bites of based RAM in twenty twenty four, with their focus on apple intelligence, like no, that would been I feel like they would have found themselves in a position like they did with the iphone fifteen and iphone fifteen plus. You just don't have the headroom to add new apple intelligence features going forward. So I think everybody does just need to sit back and say thank you.

Apple intelligence though that came in my all the m four max are sixteen kick by minimum. But the ipad pro stars ates to depending what storage like you get, like you only get sixteen gigs only apple pay if you get one terribly above .

IT is funny too because the defense for apples, defense for a gig, bites of RAM and apple silicon has always been that a gigabytes of unified is the equivalent of sixteen gig bites of vera in a PC. So presumably in appositely, they're not giving a thirty two big bed room. So that's very generous when you .

look at that in the marketing spill wasn't quite on the I got they would go with that that like yeah, you could have hungry, but you if you're doing an activity that uses like a memory, doesn't ter what platform your music and memory.

And so having more RAM is always Better and they're a much Better baseline now where I think presume ly when they read the mati, they have one IT with the matter care m two and am three, right? So that's A Y about base. And then be shocked if the m four macbook care when that comes out, reverse that. So yeah, everything will be six gigs.

The one bone to pick with the base configuration now is the two hundred fifty six gig bites still being the bed storage configuration, configurable aptitude terabits. So the now that all of the pod casters like us can't complain about the eight bites of RAM, they are going to start complaining about that two fifty six limit.

And I think the problem, kind of like the RAM used to be, is a combination of the low starting point, but also the ridiculous upgrade pricing. Because on the twenty four imac to go to five twelve, it's plus two hundred dollars. To go to a terrible, it's plus four hundred dollars and to go to two terabytes, it's plus eight hundred dollars .

But with storage, unlike with A M, you can always just buy an external SSD and like taper to the back of the imac. So I don't think it's as big of a deal is the rain, but it's gonna the new talking point I think for a lot of people.

yeah and they close like they're not there were ously. But if you look across the line up, they're close to getting ready to fifty six like the make range, the midst range. Max mines have five twelve, the all of the map prose and four star five twelve like again there.

But yeah the imac two basic configuration to two fifty six. The bed, like many configuration, is two fifty six. So we're going to a be sitting with IT for a little while longer.

H, but at least you can kind of see the ject they're on there are on the path. And IT would be nice if they would make the around the S D Prices cheaper. Member, they actually did that what was like five, six years ago.

They like half the city pricing um and but then they added even how I tears of storage and the they made him a decently prize when they held him like six years ago and I was another six years on the Prices of the same and obviously industry wise, the Price to come down. So S S D pricing is our wac, but that's only where apple gets the love. Is margin right like in the the base model, conflicts are pretty good value. But as soon you want to update them or update them with anything, then you start getting you all out really, and filling the, filling the her of the pain of the money.

One small change that I didn't realize until this morning is that on the higher end versions of the twenty four I imac, all four of the ports on the back are now thinners able. Because remember before you had two thero ports and two just U S, B, C. ports.

And with the m four, all four of those are now thunder able. So that's a nice change to a mobile. And the display, the display, there's a new nano texture option. So this is just like we got on the ipad pro, the studio display and the party splay X D R plus two hundred dollars in pricing and it's not available on the base model configuration. So the eight core configuration is only available on the ten core configuration ation for whatever reason. We don't know if this is the same nano texture, a process that they're using on the studio display in the x dr or if it's the same as what they're using on the ipad pro because those are two different like production processes or what everyone to call IT. So we don't know the details there yet, but nano texture coming to more things, which we will talk about more later too, has a nice, a nice, a nice change.

I think. Yeah because you can kind of tell the ipad process is different to what they do. The this place is the item to be touched with us with your thing, right? The imac displayed is interesting because IT is identical panel to the studio display, right, like different .

sizes but so yeah it's .

twenty for a half but you know what I mean, right? Like it's like yeah yeah is the same. They just cut a different resolution. Um so I presume my guess with basic exactly same Prices, what they do the display. But h we obvious ly don't know until we get to we get their view units and the imac upgrades two hundred dollars to get them text like you just point because you get three extra inches of diagnosis en size to worry about.

Remember the imac had ne texture. Was that the twenty nineteen version, I think version .

of the imac before they went yeah to the absolution thing they just running added anode to as an option.

The camera has also been updated, so we have a twelve make a pixel camera with cinner stage and desk view. So that's the thing you can with the ulterior, you can see yourself and a top down view of your desk in the same shot. It's weird that they're now using magpie as for the camera marketing on the imac, but they still say that in terms of video, you'll get ten N D P video.

Just a weird marketing change there, I guess. I guess they got tired of people complaining that I wasn't four, kay. Now the marketing is just twelve make .

a pixel yeah but to be clear, twelve make a pixel is the same resolution as the senate stage camera on other products. So yes, the senate stage camera on the other spay is also make a they currently market that as twelve new pixel ultra camera center stage, whereas the verbi is twelve maa pixel senate stage camera. And you had or have or used to have the shoe spay, right? IT doesn't do desk you correct. I believe that's correct.

So that the new thing here is that the center h cameras have desk you support previously to to test view. You had to use the iphone continue come of feature yes .

very clear on what's actually different about this camera will get to wait for the full reviews come out next week. Um is the resolution of the not the resolution the same to make a pixel, but is the camera apa bigos IT taking a more light at the big image can be less grainy? Uh, or is this just may be a different, slightly different field of view so they can get an angle for desk is otherwise unchanged? Um hopefully it's more the former but we don't know um and at least he gives one thing that a student played too good to add which is a senate stage camera that does this give you integrate into yeah yeah it's a new centipede camera but it's not new resolution so the same mega pixel but hopefully slightly bad image quality as well as having a wider angle for despair.

One thing that we should also mention is that on the text backs page for the twenty foreign imac there was a weird, like twelve vara period where IT said the IMAX supported external display with A K resolution at one hundred and twenty hearts. This would have been the first mac to support that spec. Then very quickly, apple said, no, no, no.

That was a mistake. IT does not support A K at one hundred and twenty hearts. And weirdly enough, we never even saw that spec return the next in for max. Like it's such a specific and weird mistake to make that IT doesn't you wonder if something's going on there, but at least as of right now, based on what apple says, there is not support for A K at once. Twenty with the new .

imac and I K sixty was possible on the m two generation. So it's not like even that was different. Some reason they can apply.

That's the second text pex mistake that apples made recently, and I don't really remember them ever making them until .

what was the one before this one.

the ipad air, where they said IT had an extra GPU core, then I actually had. So there that's two text. Bex page mistakes so far this year.

Than the other element of the imac announcement, though, was U, S, B, C accessories. So these are included with the new imac.

They're also available to purchase separately. U, S, B, C, instead of lightning for charging. And that is quite literally .

I didn't expect them to change anything. I don't think realistically anybody should have expected them to change anything. And obviously, the focus a lot on monday was not on the imac IT was on the fact that you still have to flip over the magic mouse charge IT. And I was relieved to see you tweet a thread mail that are just as tired of those memes and those jokes and those post says me, which was, I don't think it's as big of an issue as everybody makes you have to be because a you have to do is like every what three months and be IT takes ten minutes, five ten minutes yeah it's just .

I am kind of I kind of water chip to change IT just sorry. The names that end like, but now they're suggest us to what another five years because they don't change. This is very often and this was a clear opportunity for to do something more significant. And they were like, note, we're going to do the exact exchange support. So strap in because that's gonna come round on your threads for you time line for the next ten years.

Do you um use a magic mouse?

Now I don't use magic mouse not because of the poor position. Yeah I just don't really like the feel of IT， like it's quite low profile right so um come annoying. So I just have a wide mass, quite cheap.

But IT does the job like how I just use that is like one of the amazon of i've had like ten years now when he dies of break, I just get one and I have gone through about three. So, and they are like fifteen great age. Something ridiculous.

I use the magic keyboard with touch. I D, I probably would use. I had a magic track pad a long time ago.

They would like IT, but then IT died. So I stop using IT. I did like you when I had to.

I just never got around to buying another one, I guess. Um now is the time to do get in on the ground floor. Maybe, maybe, but I mean, the mouse works, I know.

But the other thing when I am set up is that I have the K, B, M, switch, so I can press one button in the mouse and keyboard, start working with the windows P, C. It's more annoying to get to work with the train pad. That's part the reason why I haven't felt the draw to going to do IT.

But uh, I mean, my magic keyboard is obvious ly lightning, right? Um i'm not going to I like great that when IT dies but not gna rush change IT before then I the on the desk is ready to IT but I just see they probably ends in U S B C based lightning on the other side. So I just use but I just um because I use the laptop as a test top environment is nice having the exact same key layout on both so IT doesn't i'm typing the desk or typing mobile. My fingers know where to press and I do like generally how the apple keyboards feel. So on a big component of the the magic keyboard with touch I D mouse doesn't fit me but I have nothing against you you know and try pad is call.

but I definitely in a while yeah I don't know. I tend to like IT just because when I do have to like enter numbers places is easier, but it's not a necessity. I don't even remember how I ended up with this IT might have come.

No, I don't know. I must thought this separate, because when I had the twenty foreign imac, I had the nut two. But that was a choice I made that like the checking process, I must have bought this one separately at some point.

But then I have the magic track pad on the left side of the keyboard and a lot attack max master her mouse on the right side. So I used the track back in the mouse combo. I don't like the magic mouse for the same reasons as you, which is just it's very low profile.

And eventually like the idea of using a magic mouse I love, but eventually after like a couple hours, IT starts to hurt my west. And it's not worth that organ. Omics are very important when you're sitting at a computer first many hours as we do. But at the logitech master, ex master, whatever it's called, this very good, highly recommended. It's more expensive than your mouths though.

May also I actually they send me a lot to r one point and I I guess this is what your hand get used to, right? But I just felt very heavy like the other thing about amazon is really lie IT is so just kind like grades around, but I use where everyone but magic cables is good.

is not gonna happen. But yes, I would be nice. I would be nice.

I know, would have liked in a perfect world for them to do more updates into the keyboard, like have some sort way for IT to like wisely pair or kind of like the airports. Do you know how they would make pair and thinking and much easier? Yes, but that's not that to be seen. Maybe that will rever at some point.

That's the most annoying thing about the track pad and the magic keyboard is because like I primarily use them with my macbook pro, but I also like to use them with vision pro, right. And getting that switch over to happen is just such a pain. Its it's so frustrated because IT never works the first time, like preparing and never works the first time.

And you can't plug like with a mac. You can pair the keyboard in the track back to the mac with a cable, right? That's not possible with vision pro. So it's a very a hassle every time.

Yeah, a lot of the people who use ipads, a lot of the same issues is just but nothing to be solved on that front this time around, hopefully have had a proper revision to the exception at some point, but they didn't do IT. Now happy this week is sponsored by shoppy. Check them out.

Now we have the mac mini paired by m four and and four pro IT was kind of funny, cool. We ve got the imac on monday and the mac many on tuesday. Very late monday night, some people noticed that the info mac menu was already showing in comparison charts on amazon 点 com， giving us not only our first look at the mac mini, but also our first look at the m four pro. Like abbot doesn't do.

they splinted to roll out of product amount cements very often they're not used to IT. They they haven't thought about all the ins announce of marking materials to give to each person um yeah the amazon page because I had the end for I Michael IT, I guess I got published longside that but yeah compared to the new make many too so can I go but whatever there .

is also an asset that I got updated， uploaded to apple, outcome early, showing like the logo for the inform max before I was actually announced, which I obviously we all knew the inform max was coming. But that was just another example of maybe something that wouldn't have happened if apple did all of this in one day and not spread out over three days. The design is the big change on the information book.

On the information. Many rather measures five inches by five inches, but it's slightly taller before two inches tall. The old mac, many was seven point seven, five inches by seven point seven, five inches and one point four inches tall. Apple had a comparison during their little mini kennett video for the mac mini, where they showed this huge tower PC next to the tiny mac mini and said, the mac mini is one one of the size of the top selling PC desk. Top in its Price range always left a apple picks like the ugliest possible windows PC your android phone to shown its comparison's.

I didn't do too bad on this one. If you actually look at the windows chose he wasn't ugly. Putting, i'm sure can find small sure there's a Better affair comparison to make there.

I mean, obviously in the intel world, you can get like internet things, which are really, really tiny, but I think they were trying to pick one that had similar performance characteristics or at least the same range because like the nuts are like really, really um low power chips that are like one fifth the power or one ten the power of apple stuff. So I think they get a decent comparison. But yeah obviously they going good.

But out of all the windows computers they shown at very times over the years, this one at least I didn't have like a lot of R G, B lights, looks like broadly IT was like pretty restrained in times of a kind of like an apple tower. You know, it's a million of, I get him some credit, but I was like far enough. But obviously, the mama's cooler .

and at the so apple did like a hands on event court code event for creators and loss antilles yesterday, and they had the mac many on display to show off the smaller design. But they also had the old mac many right there for like side by side comparison ons. And I was trying to think of other instances where apple has had like the previous generation product at one of these hands on events.

That's a good point, and I was was very rare. I mean, there are obviously leaning into the fact that a lot of these people, youtube creators and tiktok ers, and showing those two products side by side is one of the best advertising things they can do. And making flashy tiktok with those comparing since is good for them. But a very weird decision.

Yeah, i'm recommend. I cannot remember a time when they had hands on areas where they like actively had the old model saying next to one .

like when they redesigned the ipad pro and made IT so much than earlier this year. They didn't have the old the previous generation ipad pro there to compare to. Very weird. But I mean, they worked if you look at those pictures, wow, that you mac many is small.

so obvious as you said, a bit thicker and height. But overall, I think it's like it's like two thirds the volume of the old one. And if you're just took my road test space, you know with IT the Price less important you just got with they're just square the square five inches going to make a big difference.

The like a thick design. Someone did say that for people that work out, the make mini um the thicker high means IT won't fit in the same. I think they could one you mouth so the old that money was like enough that you could be the one new month they know you met.

Many run Better to do that because it's too thick. Uh so you feel the crazy people that right mount them, you will get different cavy. I guess i'll get different size mounts, but the general people are just putting on the desk. This will be, I sick.

Yeah yeah. It's like it's not cute because of this, not five by five by two, rather five, five, five. But IT looked at really nice and they're embracing IT because they have those like the shots on the website where they kind of show like different news cases for them that many is like photography or gaming, whatever.

And they obviously just put like objects next to IT to give IT the contrast of size. And it's like he's the iphone and is smaller here, Cameron, it's all that and just looks amazing. Um got leading up to the event.

People like it's gonna like an apple T V sites is bigger than the apple T V. yeah. Brian tague had a nice.

He took, they gave him the old, make me competed, met many, but he took along his own apple T, V to put on the desk next many. And yet the apple T V is to significantly smaller h and more compact, but is within the ballpark, right? Like it's close now.

yeah. And IT looks cool. IT is so like what what more could you want? Is like they have redesigned them. That many in the way that actually texted vantage of the efficiency of the chip is now inside IT. The old size was defined by the wife of an optical drive, and this one is definitely not IT can be quite literally the palm in hand.

And IT now makes the mac pro the only mac that has not been redesigned in the apple silicon era. And who knows if that will ever happen, but the new mac money is very, very, very, very slick. And one comparison to that, I thought was interesting as the mac studio, which also has that like taller or design, it's three point seven inches tall and the magni is two inches. So they're still a big difference between those two in terms of height .

yeah IT does your design is that now looks more like a mini max studio yeah because of yeah and the like the fan design at the bottom that IT like level takes off the floor because the fan um I think when the max tude came out I said something like so now they clear differences between the mac mini and the mac studio because IT looks similarly different. But now that they've kind of retro that because now the new minutes you could almost call IT like the maximum mini you right like looks of the same family. Um so that's just I kind of find a thing when you look at side by side, but i'm really glad that obvious ly this was all lake and report the forehand ah that they're putting ports on the front because they could a previous incarnation, apple could have varies drawn the line and been like if you want put on the front you got get my only back clean front but they just said, now here you go. You got two pots on the front, pa headphone jack, and of the other ports, go on the back so you don't have to buy a maximian, just have front facing in poles.

But unfortunately, the mac many has won major design flaw that ruins the whole experience. Do you know what i'm referring to?

The main machine.

the main machine, the power button is on the bottom and it's a disaster. And I so a few minutes after they announced the mac, many there are lot of people on threats and twitter asking, like course, the paraben they didn't see in the videos. So I went and I looked, I looked in the keynote, assume, found IT.

I found a shot where they show the paraben on the bottom. And I just posted IT on threats like here you ago for everybody asking. I thought nothing of IT. IT became the topic on thread sunday. Just more people mad about the location of the power, a power, but not an apple product.

I want how many times in a day or in a week or in a month for a year, or people turning on and off their mac using a power button. I I use the max studio for two years. I think roughly and IT lived under my desk in one of those like wire at mount things. I don't think I reached down and use the power button than five times in that in that time period because you .

just leave IT sleep yeah.

just put IT to sleep and wake yeah.

I think there are some people out there who is like the more windows he turning off every night, however.

well, this is apple telling you, you do not have to do exactly more.

Yeah, they want you to treat like a laptop where you just sit on sleep mode of for the whole time does IT matter. No, I think it's kind of actually, yeah, they could have totally fit on the back if they really had to. They intentionally, they put on the bomb. There's no space on the back at that machine to put, I put IT on the bombing. IT be perfect.

Fine is a people know some papers joined on the hipe train of the funny joke, right? But yeah, you probably see now you see lineups, the the magic mouse on the mamani al charging face down um being uh you know being based down to turn them on however, but I don't think IT makes a big day one in any logical you want to shine down, you can use you know the power on the keyboard or you can go to the local internet forever. 你 people if you're using the mac mini correctly， I don't think you're turning a lot of constantly .

four and in four pro configuration change in for is tin core CPU and tin core GPU with hardware accelerated racing for the first time in the mac mini two m for proconsular urges to twelve core CPU with eight performance and four efficiency cores and a sixteen core GPU or a fourteen core CPU with ten performance and for efficiency cores and a twenty core GPU two hundred seventy three gig bit of memory band with up from one hundred and fifty.

Apple says the infor pro in the mac many is twice as fast as the m two pro. Now you pointed out the the m four pro is a bigger leap over the m3 pro。 Then the m three pro was over the m two pro.

Is that right? Yeah, because I didn't remember that lost year. They kind of changed the bit. Not binning will like the the product differences between the models so that the probe became more mainstream is then they took out some of the performance, the higher performance out of IT, and they made IT more baLance.

So IT had six efficiently cause, six formal cause, like the member by wit actually went down. So like the m two pro memory back was two hundred, with the m three per, I went back down to one hundred and fifty. So they kind of made the m3 pro less pro and then they really pushed the heights on the max。

So at the time lasted at this time that a year ago, there were some speculation that maybe they they're looking to put the m three pro in more products like they made IT less power hungry because they want to put IT in the macbook are or I pad of something and obviously not transpired. So i'm not really sure what their thought process was last year or maybe they hit like engineering problems that they couldn't do IT on the product chip last year. Basically all that has been reversed because they they could have Carried on with the like a you know if IT was if the m three pro was six past six, you kind of imagine that the enforces have been eight plus six or eight pass a, you know, or just Carry on a six per six again.

Then of course sixteen gibier base RAM across the board, configurable to thirty two gigabits on the m four or sixty four gigabits on the info pro. out the week with the m for macbook proler. So this is available in m for m for pro and in for max. The base model now gets sixteen go bites of by default and three vulnerable four ports up from two on the last generation. And it's available now in space, in space black instead of space gray.

So the rational league was completely great there.

Leak was completely correct. I also saw our colleague flip. I pointed out that they're actually some base model inform macbook pro units floating around brazil as well before they were announced. So some sort of league happened. And i'd love to know the back story of that, but I doubt ever will never changed to on the base model in force that now supports two external displays with the laptop lid open. So that addressed as one of the biggest limitations of the base model that is existed for a while.

Yeah I mean, that was like the the only regression switching from intl up silicon was the one is on display on the base model, eyes and prose. And I took until the force generation, but they finally done IT enough to play controllers now that the base and four will do two externals. And obviously we go wait until the spring for that to have right to the air. But after that happens is like there was there now no downside of silicon at all, I would say.

For the whole lineup, we have a twelve mega pixel center stage camera, T N, D P. For video. Apple calls out specifically enhanced video quality in chAllenging lighting conditions. No real idea what that means. Other upgrades to the display. So apple says in bright lighting conditions, the macbook o can now show s dr. because usually, usually when IT comes to numbers, specifically core counts, I always go with what you say. But IT turns out you were wrong because you thought you thought that the m four max had more cores than the m three max. And IT turns out that's not the case.

The sixteenth info pro has a boost in battery life, but the sixteenth m for max actually has a slight decrease. So IT now has fourteen hours of wireless web and twenty one hours of video playback down one hour for both of those, which is weight .

that you wanted call out. So with the RAM, it's time annoying, right? So on the mac mini, you can get the m4 prop and get to sixty four gigs around， right?

On the max you have to get the max chip to get at least six, four weeks around. Can you tell lot more money, right? So even if you have the base and for max p with fourteen core C P U in thirty two core G P U, you can only get thirty six gigs or RAM. So the basic mode gram is higher right at the east b 3。 So now IT study six, you get four extra.

But if you can't get forty eight or sixty four, one hundred twenty eight on that configuration, you have to get the info max trip with sixteen years C P U and forty four G P U which is a three hundred dollar de to them but I would have pay um so then you get that gives you forty eight gigs. Then if you want sixty four you got pay next two hundred. So you based have to pay actually like six hundred dollars to get to sixty four kings of RAM.

Even if you don't care about G P U at all, you only care about the RAM on the man mini. They let you order a sixty four gig for o version. So obviously somewhere they making and for projects to six working, but for um marketing reasons or product mixed reasons on the laptop, they deny do that you have to get the max chip to get the RAM boost.

So that kind of sucks like like this is to be fair, with the m three generation, you also to get the max shape to get to sixty four geeks RAM. But now it's like there are also so the my mini only went to thirty two at that time. But now though, so you met many to go sixty four, but they wouldn't let you get a higher end laptop without paying extra money to get the max ship too. So if you want still like last year, if you want more RAM, you kind of have to just stop the cost of the active as well, which kind of sucks when they're selling you many on the other side, the fence that doesn't have to do that.

I seem to remember that that is what happened last year when I upgraded to this in three macbook pro or I wanted sixty four gigabytes am. So I had to get the e m 3 max。 I think that's how I did up in the situation.

Yeah, that's what I did to when I bought my time. Is just knowing that now the chip in support IT, right you from the market, but now they're you show you make many with six on on the end for primark tecture. They just don't show that configuration option on the laptop.

Praising for these new macbook rows is unchanged. The base model as fifty ninety nine, the fourteen and starts at nineteen ninety nine and the sixteen starts at twenty four and ninety nine available to order. Now they arrive on november eighth.

One other thing that we should mention, and I think you mentioned this in passing earlier mail, but the macbook air has got ten updated sort of so now starts with sixteen gigabits opm instead of eight gigabits opm across both the m two and the m three configurations. Enterprizing is unchanged. I personally think that, that could very well be the biggest announcement of the week just because they they sell so many more macbook air than they do macbook prs IMAX, especially mac mines. So to boost the RAM at no extra cost in their most popular computer, that's pretty big news. That's a pretty big change.

Well, what was the upgrade cause for two hundred dollars? yeah. So when you're saying at nine ninety nine laptop, that's like a twenty percent. So it's specifically I am really glad they done IT and they ve made the best time.

Ramos, we said before, i'm sure it's apple intelligence motivated or at least partly related ah, but you don't have to use the apple stuff, you just enjoy extra. So i'm god they didn't even they didn't like the typical thing. They were Normally just waited for the for laptops that to do IT, but they they pushed forward and both the m two and the m three years now we've have six hundred years around overall.

The m four lineup was um somewhat to be expected because we've in the base performance characteristics in the ipad already in may, right? So it's not like we were like, wow, what's the gona give you we are nice year over a year update over the m three in both performance and efficiency. The project was a bit of surprised because they basically ended their design choices of last year.

And so now it's a bigger year. Every update the max chip, C, B, A, T disappointing that the court counts didn't changed the toll, uh, but a twenty percent forced C P U, G P U, A suing apple. Numbers relate right, play out in the real world which they know me today.

They don't like often so will know for sure next week but this seems to be about right. Twenty percent over year is nothing to be sniffed. Um so overall pretty happy with the line up. The fact they give you extra around now for free is great. The Prices IT didn't change anywhere. Um is nice that you get to export display support on the laptop now um and you can choose the call up space black color is to a shade degree on with them to buy the the higher and prose if you don't want to and the that many looks amazing. So I was I was pretty good week.

I think the best part of the week now is that you can pretty confidently recommend you can that most people buy the base model of any mac and apples lineup and not have to qualify that with anything before. You'd have to say you could probably get away with the base model macbook pro unless you have this specific display set up, you could probably get away with the with the base macbook air unless you need more rain.

And you're probably do, especially if you're gna keep your computer for more than a couple years now you can just fly out, tell most people base model macbook air the way to go. That's the perfect machine or base model macbook pro perfect machine. It's the strongest. I think the mac lineup has been, baby, as long as i've been cover apple.

Yeah, that was probably, you know, I had issues like display the limitation, but yeah, that was such a big jump over the that IT felt like you could recommend IT like people take, people laugh this day. Because the first day one max were, yes, macbook air looked the same as I looked for the years macbook pro, he said the touch bar, right, that base model in one macbook pro had the touch bar mac, many looked the same. And now I guess like I said earlier, all of the max have been redesigned in the apple silicon a except the mac pro, and absolutely nobody should buy .

Luckily, the local models now are just so good that the back in the day, like developers cared about the map pro, because that was what you got the most, the most performance you could have, the z on chips, you can have all the storage, you know, you had, the more RAM like that was what you get on the one half.

Terrible RAM of dios, right? But in the all of that market disappeared because everyone could get by with laptops you know you don't even ah the max necessarily you can just use the matter prose well spect um so the macro got marginalized and I I don't know anybody I like really how to even think of one person that I could even think about you like I want the map. Price just doesn't do so they need to read that machine.

I think the best way to read IT will be to do a and for extreme kind of D O, right? So I, C, P, U, G, P, performance, separate to what? Vital with the maximum.

But are they gonna dedicate with these resources for such a low sales product? unclear. And they have done in the last two years.

The conspiracy theory could be that the reason the the m for max didn't get an increase in accounts is because they have bigger plans this year for the m for ultra and maybe an m for extreme because we didn't get an m three of any sort. So we still know what exactly apples going to do with those higher and chips on this new T, S, M, C. process.

So that'll be exciting to see. Think mark man has said the max studio is looking more like between march in june of twenty twenty five, which probably means wwdc and the mac pro is even later in twenty twenty five, right? I think that does IT forward.
