Three d printing today, shown number five, fifty one, understanding your own requirements, organic supports in full contact Green gate three D.
Welcome back to 3d print today, the pod gas about all aspects of three d printing hobbie professional industrial IT doesn't matter. We covered all my named andy.
Colin m.
here is to you. I'm doing pretty good. Let's see. What's this story this week? Oh, I got an email from an old friend of hours, a fellow named .
joe brusa heard .
from joe in what? couple? Couple month?
We at least last.
But I noticed he got a nice hairy. Ka.
and his dream is beard. Well.
because he did a vid about a new product that they announced called the prosecco. And I think it's worth of our discussion. It's certainly got a lot of discussion on our google group cool 3d printing tips and tricks uh and I invite everybody who's listening to join its free with no ads and when i'm there all the time procuring and making sure there's no flame more anyway so so joe, uh announcers, the new core one. Have you looked at IT?
Yeah have i'm looking at IT .
right now after so in a nuta it's a correy contained machine um fully active chAmber temperature control and they described with the rugged exoskeletons design I do believe in the vid they say that the casings is Better steel, not not injected molded plastic OK and this is correct. Why with all liniers slides and in my opinion, that's the biggie that I think the all in your slides is what we will deferential along with a couple of other things.
But I think that's the bigger for different differentiating between Bruce research and bamboo, the bamboo machine. Now the Price point for this machine is of I think it's the same as the the carbon next one from bamboo, which is the market leader right now, we are told, don't know for sure, but we were hearing that the case. Um looking at the images of this thing, I gotto tell you, and i'm just guessing here, i've got no evidence to to prove this just from looking at IT. Knowing this company, I think they've partnered with a chinese company to develop a lot of the hardware.
I know what leads you to the the way .
that looks the the way the casings look, the way the door. There's a things about IT that looks to me like they like they spoke to the same the same producer that made the new ultimately er T H printer.
Well IT IT has a very polished look. But that I mean that comes from I am the you know the case now comes from the technology that's being used to manufacturer, right? right? So I am i'm like we had we had printers like your mobile printer box, right? Those the printer about metal simple was made using that same technologies basically in metal.
So now they're just using that for the for the case and is a little bit more involved. Ah I have no idea where the parts are being manufactured, but but we couldn't. But but but we all .
know if you if you're looking carefully at how things are produced in china, there are centralized city sized production facilities and the probabilities really high that there using the same production facility, whether it's whether it's flash forge, whether it's ultimately er right, whether it's research.
well, it's possible they're claiming a made in E U. Um but there I wave always understood and accepted that he means our components and apparently in step remote ors remember wards, flat panel touch screens, all the electronic components, all of that is is made in china on almost any printer you find poly guide, probably there are definitely no chinese are made components, but there are all of our practices yeah so um yeah I mean, I no idea where they're getting their parts, but that doesn't really follow me.
But here's the thing they say in this in this release thing that IT will be shipping in january. Uh no um ordinary arly i'd be like a that that sounds good. Um IT won't make IT in .
time for Christmas.
Yeah um the fully assembled versions will be will be shipped, they say in january. But remember, they told us that the police excel would ship one year after they announced in IT took two years.
right?
So if they're making this printer themselves, then I would not trust that day.
Yeah, no way. Well, I think this is not breaking any new ground. Where is the process?
X, L, broke. A lot of new ground did. So, very.
very different differentiated machine.
right? This is, this looks to be a very high quality, single extra correy machine. So if single extra meets your use case, uh, this looks like a killing machine.
But I think that this kind of supports my theory that this is mostly produced at least parts elsewhere, because they, I could see them saying to the producer, well, we want at least two extractions and they say, back now I can do that the are our setups are to bend the case things for this much space. You know, we're going to produce them this speed. You're what to do in A A uh a tool changer or some form of idx means. We have to change all of our design and if you want this by january, this is what .
you're going to go. Well if if the case exactly matches someone else is and I haven't gone through all the all the research on that. So I couldn't say um then you might have a point. There are on the other hand um the um and sheet metal stuff is basically a cn cy process, so you hand them a cat drawing and in fact our old favourite fusion three sixty will um allow you to produce sheet metal plans and parts for parts but IT all gets put together and basic it's bent up .
automatically. And I the people I bet there they're getting this from are saying we sell U A sub system. You're going to put your firm where in there you're going to and you're going to program IT. But this is the system where sent is selling you. If you change those premieres and we can't make that date and we can't make that cost structure.
it's possible. But I I wouldn't I won't necessarily assume that about IT. I'm trying to get like some details to see if I can still see three new printed parts but .
i'm not sure can indicates even even the extrude look at the look at the um they called they're still calling at the next two ter bit that next truder looks a little bit cleaner and more advanced than the ones that are .
in my process itself. Yeah it's definitely come come through a through evolution, but you would expect that um given the iteration have gone through with their designs. So I know i'm not ready to a to a immune their integrity at this point. I think i'm in everybody everybody gets parts from china um but OK.
i'll get this one on. You can upgrade from a mark for us to the core one.
How does that work?
I'm cooked. I'm cooking.
Okay.
mark four core one conversion kit upgrade for four hundred and forty nine dollars. Us, okay. The core one is clearly a completely different machine.
So you might be wondering it's possible to convert your mark for us into a core one. I'm happy to say that IT absolutely is. We are preparing a prosecute one conversion kit just for you, aiming at release state in march twenty twenty five.
Hi, I am a little bit flavour gassed by that. I can. Okay, so you're onna take the steppers going to take them controller board and the the user interface panel.
But does there .
I don't see what else will come over, right? I'm blue as some .
of possible guys.
Yes, I am a little bit stunned by that.
Ah it's an interesting, interesting idea. I mean process all about the um you know the build open source, build yourself kind of market so that the sort of sort of come .
on look at look at the look at the mark for us. This is big rectangular lar frame. How this all rod's and linear bearing ings. There's no linear guides. There's three d printed parts. There's I don't the only thing I see that goes over to the core one potentially is the controller board, which i'm not too sure about, and the UI panel and maybe the step motors and and the next tutor yeah .
going from a bed finger to a core. X, Y, I guess I I can't say I really understand the point, although IT is a way to I guess yeah I mean recycle some parts of your old printer um well, be interesting to see when that's actually released as as to how that how that works because IT yeah IT seems like there is not a whole lot of overnight there.
Well, i'd like to send out a request to our listening community that if you're out there and you're gonna do IT you're gonna buy the conversion kit, please contact us and let us know what you got. Just assembly .
yourself kit one is what nine nine eighty four. Then you if you take one hundred dollars off or something for the electronics, I mean, IT seems like the parts that that you could possibly Carry over with the exception possibly of the hot end if it's the same hot and all the other parts are pretty jeep.
Yeah okay, there is a link. There is a link. Yeah this this opening is getting a little bit alone. Yeah, the no description wait, we wait, just popped up though it's still not giving us any real detail, is just a lot of marketing gobi cook. Well.
we'll have to look in on IT when in a couple weeks when they're all launched on IT.
I got so in the meeting time, what's coming up on our show this week?
Let's see. We're going to talk about understanding your own requirements.
We're going to look at using organic supports .
and full contact and then have a quick peak at Green gate 3。
So the other day one of our one of our foreign members whose handle is Joshua mic they nineteen seventy one huh um posted some pictures of his veron that looks like it's the bigger war on I think and for good reason Joshua must be very proud of his wonderful machine. I mean, that really is an impressive looking machine and and I understand that and I fully respect that and Joshua asks, when are you guys gonna knockmedown and build A. Now I I admit that if someone was to say to me, andy, in his box.
build IT, uh, I be OK. yeah. I, yeah.
Okay, that sounds like fun. I build IT 啊啊 and then I immediately sell IT。
I immediate .
aid put on scruggs sell IT uh uh or if IT was for the person who had to me the box, i'd say cost up five hundred .
box yeah or maybe .
quite a bit more because forty hour build you would be quite a bit more my times worth more than that, quite a bit more than that, even without a burden rate, my times worth quite a bit more than maybe a thousand box. I would do IT. And that's an important thing to keep in mind, by the way. So um I wrote back on the forum that no where we're not going to be because the foreman doesn't meet my requirements and .
maybe your single .
a single 的 i make that very plain。 And i've stated this on the podcast many times before. Once once you get IT, you don't go back. Once you start making full contact support your in integral to your regular processes for .
for producing .
stuff with your 3 pro, once you do that on a regular basis and it's reliable and it's quick and learn how to do that, you never want to go back to break away support. Everything has to be as as clothes, full contact supporters possible because in my experience, over thirteen years now of three d printing thousands and thousands of objects, more material than I can even guess. I mean, I could probably calculated by looking at the mulder boards of each of my machines, finding out how many hours um i've learned that my clients will instantly reject an object that has mary in the undersides yeah it's unacceptable, right? Even if it's minimal, it's plainly unactable.
right? Well, you you've also cultivated and high clients with high expectations because you've been able to deliver. yes. So yeah i'll .
mean I can sell my printing services because they know right I can do IT where as somebody in their in their living room with the moron can't yeah that's it's that simple. Now though, that doesn't mean the bar is not a great machine, but unless you use an auto loader such as the enraged dabit, or you go to the cutting edge and build tool changing capability within the warm, now that doesn't mean you can do that. You can do that. But that also means you've got to invest a lot more than just money here over right. You ve got to invest your time .
and from your sanity.
and you're possibly your sanity to get IT to work right. And in my experience with the e 3d tool changer that could take six months to a year to get IT to a level which you get relatively quickly with the process exile, the project cell.
I had a running reliably right out the box right after I installed everything, I got a running um I followed their instructions and did IT exactly they want to me to do IT worked now when I went my own way, of course, I had to change things, modify and, you know, weak settings. But I was at a capability with project cell within a week, which took me months with the e three. So I can imagine if I was gna build a more on. I'm looking at at least the week of the build least maybe anywhere from five to seven days is to build IT. Another couple of full .
days yeah another a lot of work.
another couple of days or another, possibly a week to get IT printing optimally. And then I know some people out there, probably already been there, are done that saying I did IT within a few hours that's great, maybe a few hours but then is then look into the tool changing methods that are out there, which we know at least two, possibly three um yeah they look great and they would be cool to have that.
But that's going to take another pile of time to make the parts, install them and then make the G O. changes. And working that takes time, time that i'd rather use on fusion three sixty, making things that I could sell or for my clients or to walk my dog.
I mean, there's only so much time in the day now I do recognize the value, the vote. There's multiple reasons to build your own. Number one is it's fun.
IT can be a fun. And IT has been for a lot of kids that you and I built yet too. You are intimately familiar with exactly how that machine is put together and taking .
apart ah and not afraid to not afraid to take a part things part and put them back together .
when you need to. So so there's value in building IT yourself. But right now, Joshua, man, he just doesn't meet my requirements. And you've got to understand your requirements.
Are you d three d printing because you want to produce a specific thing or because you want to generate revenue through selling your services to somebody? Or do you want to build your making parts to support your hobby? Whatever that may be.
whatever was a really fast printer .
understand those requirements, because in my experience, the war on meets the requirement of someone who wants to build IT, to be intimately familiar with IT and get optimal performance from IT sands. Full contact support. Unless you add IT less, you can somehow add that and which which more than doubles the complexity, in my opinion, right doubles IT. Um so me .
yeah I mean, someday that the tool changes will become more involved and maybe more standardized for on well.
let's move away from an intrinsic motivating reasons and look at extrinsic cost.
Well.
the final to build a horon. It's gonna the biggest one. The best kids out there are around thirty hundred bucks. L D O. With the best steppers, the best linear slides, um the best controller boards around twelve thirty hundred box. There's no way I would put in plastic parts in a heated containment, right? Sorry folks, I know that the community says it's good, but in my experience.
maybe able to get away with that.
Sometimes you may be people have been getting away with IT the replicator two for years of Operation, but I would say not me. So I would spend another four to five hundred bucks to get the machine aluminum m stuff from matter hackers or supply. I would go matter hackers and get IT um so right now i'm looking at me, I say let's say thirteen at another four at seventeen hundred box for about six hundred bucks more plus shipping. I can get IT two tool per excel, right another five hundred box for the enclosure it's about three thousand books.
You don't need .
the enclosure. I don't need the enclosure thing.
Is the process fully assembled or at this double to do .
that within three hours max, unless you totally an up or there's something broken, um you'll be printing rather than a week and half or so. So you know it's you know my time is more valuable to me, but i'm sure there are folks out there where they may not be able to afford IT and there on they're on a strict budget. And okay, morons to your solution.
if you're on a strict budget, there's a lot less expensive printers that you could get them that that's just so I I don't know that that's really a great use case. I would say. I mean, for people who want to be part of that community and I want to build a machine, I want to build a pretty bang and machine um with the caviar that is only single study.
Now I know a folks who have parted dragons and all sorts of charge geese that they sell at state fares uh, who have contacted me and talk with nations. We've been talking about them at least three different people, and they're all using mental machines, inexpensive mental machines. And they give their speed of throat through their system by simply duplicating the machine and .
not necessarily having fast machines. Cost of you could have probably ten and three years, right? Many.
none of that. Many, maybe five, I wouldn't get an end. Three, I would get the bigger when I get the okay.
but you can get a printer in the sub three hundred dollar. Arrange that that will produce acceptable output. In many use cases.
IT could be optimal. I mean, it's not onna be perfect. You're going to have to you're going to have to adjust .
the dolin wheel and you're maintenance that has to go on, right? And it's gonna a be slow. And if you try to push IT faster, is is going to degree the quality of the culture here and it's not as cool as as a war on .
boron is cool. I admit that, right? I boron is a cool machine.
but but a rack of three or six or eight ends is going to way out, perform the through put of IT.
But for my needs, if I can do full contact support ankle biid, which means if i'm going to spend a penny on another machine, it's going to meet my requirements. Doesn't have to be as big, big to be a smaller builder, but it's gotta have do to dual separate dool excursion capability either. In idx, there's a version of a dual electro you can get where rotates back and forth.
It's although IT is a IT is a boden tutor, but even that would get you reliable and quick full contact support. sure. That's an important.
I don't care if this sounds like a broken record. I'm gonna do IT anyway.
So what are we talking about?
Full contexts?
That was going to be my guess, but I would be mean.
of course. But so I get a call from a client. Uh this client is is an engineering firm. Their speciality are those um those vending machines that you see in parking parking areas where you know you pay the money and you get the little piece of paper that and they're constantly designing new ones because the their client until varies for different reasons, airports versus street parking versus parking structures.
So there's different sizes, machines, different different types of designs for different purposes and they work in different ways. So i'm constantly getting calls from these guys to three print their designs and then they take those designs and they put them into the the machine that they're modifying or updating to see how well that fits, to see how well IT works, right? So my prints that I do for them have to be hundred percent and representative of what's going to be made in metal to pert has be perfect.
Now, of course, when they make IT in metal costly a lot more, and they make a lot of them when they make them in metal, they're made by bending sheet of metal and wedding parts together. They're not made as cnc parts. They're not made as mold some they are they're .
not that kind, right right?
So the samples that the the files I get from these guys have thin walls. There's all thin walls with a very, very difficult overhangs.
Yeah that's very chAllenging.
So um and if you're interested in seeing what i'm talking about, I did post images of this part on our form um look for um let's see what's IT called full contact use full contact support use case just look for IT there and you see photographs of what i'm referring to you if you could look over on my screen the far one. Take a look at the part.
So the part is like .
sheep metal. There's overhangs everywhere. There's a there's a sheet of of metal that comes up at a diagonal from the bottom of this box like structure that was all the way to the top of the other side of the box like structure. And this sheet of metal is all overhang. And IT has to reflect what the real medal will do for me to successfully make this as a sample.
for them to test, to be perfect. You can be dropped.
can be in, there can be there can be any maring underneath so I have to do IT as full contact support for this to work correctly um in out the real chAllenge that I had before I even sliced was I I since I am doing full contact support and printing this object in peachy and i'm going to use P L A for my support structures.
Um however, when you do that, you can you you must set your support to only generate from the bed, because IT will not print on top of other material. You can only print from A A spot on the bed. Well, when you've got over, hangs over the part itself, that becomes a problem.
right? Yeah, yeah. So so you have to have support that kind of goes from the bed out and around and then back and enjoy. You need IT. Yeah.
now you can make your own supports read yeah.
that would would be .
that hard to do. But IT turns out that the type of support that I least like improved slice, uh, does the job in ways that are so mind boggling that IT was worth putting this up on our podcast. At the risk of sounding so redundant that everybody's going there he goes ago. So I turned on organic support that's like the trees.
looks like little trees.
I had no idea what was going to happen, but i've used IT in the past. And what IT does as little it'll print from off to the side and grow the support structures sideways to get underneath to work. And I printed these little wheels that way.
Um they are like they've got a slot in them, right? Ideally I print them on their side, but to get the slot is to be claimed because that's got a right rail. I put in little organic, full contact supports, and IT comes out perfectly clean, perfectly nice.
So I had same approach for this box structure. Well, when I I hit the slice button, I got an amazing surprise. Now I expected the tree structures on the side of the box opening, on the inner box opening. What I didn't expect was there these little screws, les, that are on the base of this box, right? IT generated building .
trees up through them.
through the holes, goes through the holes. And you see this one over here. IT came through a large hole in the branch to hold the way out into a whole bunch of tree structures, all to go underneath that overhang.
That's brilliant, that the algoma is actually clever enough to do that.
Yeah, I was I was like, wow, now I have printed fine first time. I admit if you look at the picture um there's a shadow that makes the layers look like they're not good. But that's pure the light that you look at IT with the light straight on.
It's the same from one corner to the others. So don't look at that. That is false. Where there was a defect was on the overhang at the top of the box for reasons i'm not sure.
I think the patchy itself kind of gunk up and IT lifted a tiny, tiny bit, but still within the tolerance for the part that just wasn't perfect. Yeah, otherwise this was a perfect print. Yeah, I was started.
Otherwise almost impossible on to do.
Yeah, and it's fifty box right there.
Fifty box, fifty boxes.
Is all your charging for that? Well, IT only took a hour to print. 这 if IT was eight hours, I charge accordingly.
But that only took an hour to print. And the didn't use very much material at all because a lot of these are thin. I did not mind at all because I just pushed a button and organic slot. The organic supports popped up. I didn't do anything.
You had to know the button to push. Well, no, but I don't know if I would say that.
Well, any case, if you're listening and you're think okay and I am sick of this, what is this? What do I have to do to get these full context was, well, for one, you have to have a machine that could do more than one material. Now you can do with an order loading device like the mm u.
Or the enraged rabbit. You can, however your page has to take the different materials into account, and you have to use a perch tower that doesn't blend the material here. You can do that a cura.
I don't know how to do full contact supports with cure. I don't know how to do IT. Other than that, I don't know how to separate completely the perching .
yeah Better off than x well.
even with an dex in the tool changer, you still have to do some prime. However, I didn't need IT for this particular print and i'm not sure why, but I really didn't need IT um with two materials, process ice is fine. Three materials is fine.
Four materials, it'll still do a good tower. Five materials, no, you can do for four different colors of petch. Y, with P, L, A, for your support will work.
And i've tried to complain to them about IT, and they ignore me. I've even got people agreeing with me on the github and they still will not fix this unfortunately. Um but you can do for uh three colors and P L A and will still build a priming structure that i'll work correctly.
Um your settings should let me see, let me bring up process slicker because it's not just your distance um in let see, let me read the them to you. The most important setting is not the style. IT could be all three styles or again and we're talking press slicer organic IT could be great IT could be snug, but you wanted set the um top contact to the to zero and IT shows in parenthesis soluble. Um that shows .
right there that .
folks that Bruce slicer don't see what we're doing as something that they understand not yet .
that well though the whole world will know .
someday um if you're doing snugger again snug or or a grid you want to use well directly in your pattern refers to that surface. If you go with concentrate, you draw the same shape. That's the pattern that's gonna up on your on your undersides.
So picked that pattern carefully. I always go real in here and that gives me a nice smooth surface on the top of summer. The top is flat, so I go redelmeier.
Um and then the other really important thing that you have to look at is the interface pattern spacing. That's the correct one. No, that's not right. That maybe you've gotten make IT so that it's a solid flat surface. And if you don't set that correctly, you'll get the lines further apart.
And when you get the lines of the top further report, the overhang material goes in there and IT gets IT IT makes IT difficult to remove, and you you'll get some kind of ugly pattern. L, C, pattern angle should be zero. Pattern spacing, I have a two.
I'm pretty sure its interface pattern spacing. You also want to set X Y separation between the object in the support to um around eighty percent or less because you want to have room on the sides to be able to remove the stuff. I've had many times where i've done this, and it's a solid, massive plastic.
You won't be able to get in there to get the stuff out. You can't break IT off. You want some room on the sides as well.
I think it's interface panel space. I'd set that to zero is IT, i'm not sure. And you want you want a couple of layers at the top because you want a strong right. You only put one layer, you you're not going to to get a solid clean pattern underneath. So experiment with IT and after you play with these settings, do the profile or do the um the preview go up and down look at the preview because that's what's going to show on the underside of your object. And I know I say this a lot, but guys, if you're printing for someone else and there's maring that's fail, you can sell that well .
IT depends if your client will buy you so many, most won't. And especially when you get guys like you on here who can do IT without .
the morning or someone with a stratos machine, a stratos machine that uses soluble supports, you'll never be able to match that quality unless you do this. That's why I say, okay, no more single study machines for me. Not gna buy them, you know, not going to do IT.
Yeah this once a little bit overdue and we may have already done IT a long time ago and forgotten about IT. Um um there was a question on our form about what's quality peg. That's a good question because petchworth aries quite a bit.
I used to be overture work really well for me opic overture these days. It's terrible time. I tried everything.
Maybe wait another six months and try again. I don't know if I want to. There's also off brands like clan root.
And if I got a couple of schools from there and those schools they dribble a law, there's a lot you get a lot of those really fine, be trAiling strings no matter what you do. No way around IT. That's peg. But some of the pech best peachy i've ever had comes from a company which I apologize if we have not reviewed these guys before they deserve IT there in the united states are called Green gate 3d and and they like to state that they they use recycled plastic。 Um they make a pretty, pretty bold statement about IT too.
Um they said they David involved with materials since nineteen ninety four um with the company called the universal and ninety four and they've been involved with recycling PVC and all sorts of other materials and they state that Green ae 3d is a hundred percent recycle one hundred percent american may define we use scrap plastics, only scrap plastics and we only exclude those materials in the united states of amErica um well, that last parts not really be an important criterion for me. I'll buy IT from anywhere if it's quality company, although I do like the idea that i'm buying IT from the country that I reside in. All of that a side, all of the the thing about the recycle in the side, the thing about being in USA aside, put all that to the side.
This stuff, really good material i've really, really good luck with. And I got a state right in front that I ordered the most difficult that g you can buy clear uncolored translucent is the most difficult to petty. It's the ultimate test of how good your formulation is.
This stuff s great. I bought clear. I bought Green translucent. I bought orange translucent and a red translucent whole sweet of them so I could do translucent multicolor objects and IT works. This is good stuff.
I'm giving a thumbs to Green gate three D I hope they retain their quality and um both within colors and between um I I would recommend them. They're not cheap. They're not going to be the cheapest.
You can buy thirty two dollars a school.
IT does range in Price from one hundred dollars of school to twenty thousand dollars a each. Colors different to pedling on how they made IT. They make interesting artistic and colors, different colors than what you can get elsewhere. One thing I would point out is if you're looking at colors that are definable um according to what is a no like if you're doing, you forge stuff and you need specific need, probably not the way to go. Well.
yeah you're trying to trying to match somebody else as you forge colors, right? You can load up by rain of these characterizing yourselves and you .
for yeah interesting .
um not they do have a product line of high temperature petty, which is virgin material. But but they do have a lot of a lot recycle.
You see any P, C, T, G up in there.
A P, C.
I don't think they have P C.
T, G. I'm not any of that. Um but IT is um yeah it's it's a cool ah it's a cool print line and and then I think i'm a peg is pretty much the only plastic that we actually recycle in this country, fortunately.
And that's because all of those dams le use plastic water bottle are our pet g not peg, but that is you are able to get those as a commodity of recycled plastics because there only ever held water. So they're clean um and their fairly uniform um in terms of their their materials. So that's about what we actually cycle. So it's nice to see somebody he's actually actually um making filming and the filming is viable out of IT because we had some earlier attempts at recycle pet film and did not work at all.
yes. So Green group.
