- Is Tesla giving a souped up version of FSD to influencers? Some big news to talk about. - And Cybertruck has become the best selling electric pickup truck in America and the demand is so high, Tesla's not planning on dropping prices anytime soon. - Plus the refreshed Model Y has been spotted with a feature only the Cybertruck has. But let's get going talking about FSD, because it sounds like they're actually prioritizing it for some people. We didn't get that.
No, no, we're not. We're not one of these people, I guess. Apparently, this is according to a report now coming in from Business Insider. So take that maybe with a grain of salt, some would say. And it is citing at least a dozen or more current and former Tesla employees who've said some really interesting things about how Tesla has pushed FSD forward and prioritized one, Elon Musk and his driving vicinity, and also two, notable influencers that do FSD content.
to essentially give a more positive perception of what FSD is capable. So I have some thoughts on this. One, of course, they're prioritizing Elon Musk's route. I mean, he is the CEO of Tesla. So it makes sense that they would try to make that perfect for him. But on the other side of that, then he's only seeing this perfection of it. And so whose fault is that really, ultimately? Yeah.
probably his because he's the one that hires these people and maybe if you really thought about it you'd be like don't prioritize anything for me because I want to see what what the mass people are seeing so essentially what the report's saying though Kim is that this is possibly skewing the development and performance of FSD because again so much time and energy is going into Elon's routes to make sure any sort of edge case is taken care of and his experience is almost flawless and
And then also they're noting several specific content creators. And then the internal team is saying, hey, look what's happening. This seems disingenuous that we're focusing on making these influencers have an incredible experience. And the masses, you know, we kind of make content sometimes too. I know, I'm kind of disappointed here. I'm like, why wasn't I included as one of those influencers? We need to do more FSD content. We've done some FSD and they've actually performed pretty well. People like those. We should do more, I guess, if we want...
a better driving experience. There's two sides again, like what I said. So they're seeing the influencers videos out there. So naturally that's sort of the progression because they're putting it out there. And I'm wondering how many people use the bug report feature that use FSD because it's
you have an option if something happens during it, you know, you can do the bug report and let the developers know. And then that actually highlights that particular incident where Tesla can then scrutinize that incident versus scrutinizing all the influencers driving locations and making sure that they're getting the good experience. But I see your point. So apparently this former employee said, quote, it seemed like we were purposely making Elon's car and influencers cars better to make autopilot look different than it was. And that just felt dishonest.
And again, a little more than a dozen or so former and current autopilot employees were interviewed and kind of shared. Is this after they were let go from Tesla? Were they part of those layoffs? A couple of them were part of the layoffs. Yeah, I feel like there's two sides, right? There's Tesla's side where they could say, well, you know, anyone can place that bug report and anyone can, you know, help with the projection of FSD and help it get better. But then the other side is an employee saying that it feels dishonest to
prioritize those. So apparently a former autopilot analyst actually gave two examples of things happening where it just, again, seemed a little dishonest. And our friend Tesla Raj was actually referenced as well for a video with FSD where he posted San Francisco's famous curvy road there, Lombard Street, where Tesla was having difficulty with it. They quickly patched Raj's path in that area, according to this analyst. And again, he kind of was like, why are we focusing on these influencers to make it look better?
bringing attention to these areas that are of concern with FSD, so why not take care of them? But I'm curious what you guys think about all this. Do you think that it's unfair treatment for influencers, for certain influencers and Elon Musk, or do you think that's just part of the development of FSD?
Speaking of FSD, Kim, the latest one that's 10 times better, it's rolled out now. About 10% of FSD users have access to that particular. Again, not us. Not yet, at least. But this is the largest batch that came through. And of course, it is one of the biggest as far as biggest changes involved in here. One of them being the driver attentiveness being viewed from the camera, the cabin camera inside the car that kind of removes the nag from the steering wheel. Also, a new strike policy is in place. Remember, if you have five strikes when you're not
paying attention. We made a video about that. We did. Now you're able to actually erase a strike for every week that you don't get a strike.
So you're essentially, if you have three strikes and you go clean for one week, then now you have two strikes. They are starting it from scratch. So all your strikes are reset for this 12.4.3. But at the same time, they are shared between drivers of that car. So if I get three strikes, you only have two to work with, basically. That's weird. Like, why can't they do it under profile? Yeah, I guess because you can, in theory, create more profiles and strike more.
As long as you want. And also, how is that that different than what they did before? Because before it was like you basically if you struck out, you had a week that you were in jail. I believe it was one or two weeks that you were in autopilot jail or FSD jail, we called it. So that's about the same now, though. It's like seven days. Seven days and you're erasing a strike. Oh, so you only use one at a time. So if you did five, it could take five weeks to get rid of them all. Correct, to get rid of all of them.
Okay, and then how many strikes before you are all the way out? Is it still five strikes and you're out? I believe so, yeah.
Interesting. Interesting. Okay. So it's actually almost like more penalty. It is. Basically, they up the ante on how serious you have to be if you have three or four strikes, because if you come up to five, then you got to wait. And with the vision-based camera detection now for your eyes, of course, as we talked about last time, you can't have a low-brim hat. You can't have sunglasses on. You've got to be able to make it see your eyes are paying attention.
They did change some of the language around this vision based system as well and now there's going to be a green light. You know how when you're on FaceTime or doing webcams and the camera light green turns on on your phone or device? That's exactly what this is going to display on the center screen now to let you know it's tracking your eyes and you need to not take your eyes off the road for an extended period or it reverts back to nagging and if you don't have a camera you're still going to get the nag.
You know what I would like to see with this? I want to see what it looks like. I want to see the camera angle and how it's tracking my eyes. I want them to release a video of that. I've seen footage of it somewhere. I think they have at some point. Do they? I mean, it's like a black and white with a little bit of color tracking the eyeballs. I've seen some footage somewhere internally from Tesla in one of these...
We're going to have to find that. I want to look at that. I saw a video on TikTok, somebody going into their phone and tracking their eyes and they didn't have to like press on the apps anymore. They just like looked at it and blinked and then it opened up the app. And I feel like that's where we're headed with all this stuff. It's just going to be completely, we're going to be driving with our eyes essentially, right? Like get rid of the steering wheel and we're just going to like look this way. But what about people with ADHD that get distracted?

Yeah, these photos are coming out of Northern California. I'm actually a friend of the channel, Joey Klender from Teslarati. His friend sent them these photos. The cameras are definitely different in the locations for some of the placement from three different spots here. And one is in the top of the rear bumper. Another one is in the B pillar and the side repeater with an interesting angle and a big old one up front to camera that's set up there as well. And when it comes to the RoboTaxi vehicles having similar setups. So yeah, it's it's it's
It's very interesting. There's just a lot of speculation at this point about what this could be, but because it's so drastically different than what we have currently, especially with the placement of these, we think that that's definitely with the side mirrors are missing on these images as well. We don't see those we have inside. We have these cameras. So that's pretty cool to see that that is still something that is on the table. Yeah.
I remember Tesla was adamant about this too for Cybertruck. The side mirrors weren't there for the Cybertruck initially. And of course, you know, they tried as hard as they could, but the officials here in the US still don't allow that to happen. But they're obviously pushing forward trying to make it as efficient as possible. One of the commenters, they said exactly my guess, the new model will be two doors. These front doors will be longer than the Model 3 doors. And that's why the B pillar cameras are further back.
They need to get all the footage to train FSD before they release the new vehicle to make sure FSD is available from the start of the production, not like the Cybertruck. And I agree with all that, actually. I think that that's
right on I just I can't help but go back to like the previous story we talked about and if Elon Musk's route is being optimized like does he realize where FSD really is at like and how far away is robo taxi if he's getting this like optimized version of full self-driving for himself yeah do
Do you ever think about that? Or is that just me? No, that's a good point. That's a good point. I mean, there's a lot of roads and there's a lot of different edge cases to work with. So I could see how people pleaser is at Tesla. And we've always kind of talked about the yes men or yes people that work at Tesla that are always trying to appease Elon. Maybe part of that whole story is around that, of trying to keep him as happy as possible, because maybe they have the ability to make it perfect, but someone needs to sit there and
and look at those roads carefully and you can't do that worldwide or US wide. I mean, when we tried it out recently, it was really, really good, but I don't think it was like robo taxi ready. So I'm just curious how, like when will robo taxi be robo taxi ready? I'm curious like what that actual timeline is. So many questions.
Curious what you guys think about that. Do you think that this is something that we're gonna see like two years from now and it'll be ready to go? Or is this like five, 10 years away? And speaking of sightings, we're also seeing some possible sightings of Project Juniper, which is the refreshed Model Y. - Yeah, this is also spotted out there in California in the wild for the first time.
and it has a feature that is only currently found on the Cybertruck. This was a covered up Model Y spotted near Pasadena, California. And given the timeline of when we saw the covered up refreshed Model 3s, which were about eight months before they ended up in the US, eight to 12 months or so, it's believed that this particular Model Y, again, codename Juniper, would end up in the US sometime in the middle of 2025. - We know that the Model 3 and the Model Y are
sisters basically and they're so similar so it's going to have a lot of those same features that we see on the refreshed model 3 i'm sure will be on the model y but then why are they still covering it up
Why even bother? Yeah, I mean, is it going to have the same headlights and kind of look like the way Y looked like the 3? It's going to look like the new 3. And the part I tease that I haven't gotten into yet is the front of this Model Y. Somebody zoomed in, they increased exposure, and sure enough, there's a little slit that covers what, in the exact placement, that what would be a front camera, front-facing camera, which is only available in the Cybertruck. And remember, the refreshed Model 3 actually did have a camera spotted in its meal sightings
over a year ago, but it never made it to market, which is an interesting thing because, of course, they retooled for it, clearly have the ability to put it on the Cybertruck, but they never made it, at least in this current phase of the Model 3. So is it going to make it to the new Model Y is the question, but undoubtedly, that is exactly where the camera was. I mean, that's something that I would love to have, but again, I also feel like
bring that to the Model X and the Model S, which don't get any less, which is a whole other story. - They're not selling much at all. I saw something recently, they're down in the dungeon when it comes to just how little movement there is in the sales of S and X, just because the 3 and Y are almost as good with a lot less money. - Well, they keep adding all these extra features now. Like the refreshed Model 3 is honestly better in a lot of ways than the Model S. So if you're looking at getting a vehicle that size,
Why would you not get a Model 3 and save a ton of money and have all this better ambient lighting and all these extra features in it versus the Model S? It's kind of a hard thing. I wish they would bring some of these cool, like the front-facing camera, bring that to the X and S.
It's coming. I've read somewhere that those are actually also, I mean, it's all coming, but it's a matter of why would they prioritize it when they're not going to move that many units and the camera's probably not going to make someone jump to getting an S and X. I think FSD should also be included in the priority.
price of the X and the S, kind of like Cybertruck. I feel like it should be like, or at least the foundation Cybertrucks. I mean, the priority is, I guess, to make their vehicles as cheap as possible and then get them out there. So they're really just not, they just don't care about the X and S, let's be real. That's pretty much what it boils down to. They don't care as much. They just want to make more affordable vehicles that have full
full self-driving in it and the software. So I don't know. I guess like I feel mixed about that because I am a Model X owner, but I think the majority of people have the Model 3 or the Model Y. So I don't know. What do you guys think? I sound like a sour. I sound kind of sour. What's the word? And I'm like...

Speaking of things that are selling well the Cybertruck is on fire Q2 best-selling electric pickup truck in the United States and Tesla in the last week announced that they are selling at such a high volume that they're actually not going to be releasing the non-foundation series versions until the very end of 2024 so a
At some point we thought in the coming month or two maybe we would start to see the minus $20,000 version that would be more affordable Cybertrucks rolling out. Tesla says no, there's demand that's in place still for Foundation Series, so we're gonna keep cranking those out.
So that is really fascinating. How many Foundation Series though? Do we know how many they're going to like cap it at? No, usually, you know, it's been in the thousand range. They've delivered, I believe now 12,000 Cybertrucks so far this year.
So, you know, I don't know how many of those are foundations. Because to me, it's sort of like you lose that value of having it say foundation on it if everybody has foundation. You know, like it's like, okay, well, why am I paying extra for that when that's pretty much all they're going to make? It'd be nice to know like, okay, we're only having that at the first like...
I don't know, a thousand vehicles or something. But it doesn't look like that's what's happening with it. They're like, oh, they're selling. And so let's just make more of them. They're going to have to put a disposable income badge next to the foundation. I mean, it's kind of silly to me, though, honestly. So I don't know. How do you guys feel about that? Especially people that have purchased the foundation series. Did you feel like when you got that, that was going to be something that was going to be capped out?
at like a smaller amount than what it is. Do you feel like them, you know, continuing to make those is like,
not what you were expecting? I mean the badging is very subtle. It has been on all the test ones. Yeah, but in terms of like the value. Like does the value decrease now because they are making more of them? Naturally, that's usually how it is. Well, in five years if there's hundreds of thousands or millions of Cybertrucks rolling around, maybe the first 10 or 20,000 still have some value. And were you surprised that they are selling so well?
Gosh, you know, I guess I'm not surprised because it's not truck buyers that are making this the best selling electric truck. We've talked about this ad nauseum that it comes when it comes to the Cybertruck. There's so much more. You get some truck stuff by far, not the best truck utility stuff.
But you do get a pretty cool truck. It drives really well. It has incredible driving characteristics that you can't find anywhere else. It's a Tesla. The UI is Tesla-like. And if you don't need to be hauling stuff, which most truck owners who haul stuff don't,
also will tell you they don't haul stuff all the time people that are wanting a truck stop to do truck things some are buying the Cybertruck but I think a lot of them are still maybe reluctant to buy an electric truck because they're using it for hauling so they need to go the distance and they don't want to lose the range and maybe they're still actually buying the gas vehicle or they're looking at like Silverado or something you know or Rivian something else
than Cybertruck to do those truck things. But I think, again, some are buying the Cybertruck. We made a video with our friends that bought it to do work on their farm and they're doing truck things with it.
So it kind of carries over to different groups. They're getting like a whole new group of buyers. Again, like what we've talked about so much with it. And that's probably why it's doing so well. And it's fun. Like it's cool. But again, when that like cool factor wears off, will it still be like, will this just be like normal to see a triangle driving on the road? I don't know.
I don't know. The only triangle still probably many years down the road. I don't know. I still, part of me thinks like RoboTaxi is going to be like in the triangle. Well, yeah. For sure. Yeah. Y'all has mentioned that being a thing. So for sure it's going to have some inspiration. So it'll be maybe the only other triangle. I don't know. Or there's going to be other car makers that will copy the triangle for sure.
But by the way, I forgot to say this came in an email. So this came in an email from Tesla to tell existing reservation holders that if you're holding out and you thought at this point, you know, we'd still rolling out cheaper Cybertrucks. Here's the game plan. We're not, we have enough demand. The demand is really high. So we're going to keep foundations cranking out until the end of this year. I always think about it like money too. Like if we're just like, oh, let's just print more money because people need money. But then like, you know, our money's not worth as much.
So I don't know. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm curious, again, to know what you guys think about this with the Cybertruck. I know we've sort of been holding out personally on not wanting the Foundation Series. I feel like I just want to figure out what they're doing with the range more. That was always a big thing for me. I really wanted that 500-mile range. So it was a...
a little bit of a disappointment because i do want to be able to drive it cross-country i want to be able to like tow a camper with it or something so well did you did you hear this tesla is starting to send messages out to early cyber truck owners saying that we're doing a study and we want to swap one of your drive units out for free to give you a more efficient drive unit and possibly more reliable one as well again being done to select cyber truck owners early owners that have taken delivery
A friend of the channel, Kyle Connor, actually received a message about a week ago and he was like, sure, this would be great. Make some content around it as well, I'm sure. Asking owners at their available times to come in for a swap of a motor and then they're analyzing these motors. And it's a really interesting thing because Tesla's really never done that as far as we know of taking parts of their car by request from owners to study them. But they're actively telling owners from early. So are they going to be adding like
a drive unit that has like a bigger range to it.
Well, more efficient is the verbiage I believe they used. So this is, yeah, so it's a brand new drive unit intended to improve efficiency and reliability. And it's only one. And again, it's happening in all models, whether it's dual motor, a variant all-wheel drive or tri-motor cyber beast, they're all getting. So how much better are these foundation series? It kind of seems like maybe, I mean, I hate saying this, people are going to go off me, but maybe it's better to wait, you know, and then get this like new drive unit.
To me, this lends more credence to what we talked about when we were there at the event and there was no mention of, you know, the battery extender price, any of that stuff when it came out. Even range, I believe. None of that stuff was out there. And we immediately after, you know, Elon walked off stage, we're like, was that like the most rushed thing?
Let's just get this out. It wasn't ready, maybe. It wasn't ready is what it seemed like. And then autopilot wasn't ready, you know, for the longest time. And, you know, all these little things that are kind of gradually being sprinkled in lends more credence to me that, you know, it was mostly ready. But at some point after, you know, all the other electric truck makers and, you know, lightning and so on all come out, you've got to put something out. I mean, at the same time, though, it's clearly worked for them. They're selling them. So, you know...
It's a different strategy than what we've seen other automakers do, but it's worked for them. It is a fantastic truck, but again, it's more of a car than a truck for a lot of people's truck needs, but it is a fantastic truck. It is fun. It's funny because I talk about it. We talk about it every day, but then when I go to make a video and I drive it again, I'm like, oh, I really, really want this. I don't know what it does to me, but it's like all of a sudden I get this butterfly feeling every time I drive it. Every time I'm like...
I want to buy it. And I kind of wish, like, I think if one of us had been in the military, maybe it would make it a little bit easier to purchase that foundation series or purchase a new car because they've added a military discount now. They have. It was very patriotic. On the 4th of July, they announced that they're going to have a discount $1,000 off if you're buying an SX3 or Y, not Cybertruck, though.
So no military discount there, but it essentially works for any U.S. military members. That includes veterans, retirees, active duty members, and their spouses for $1,000 off those four. But you can only get red, white, and blue. I'm just kidding. That'd be pretty funny.
But when you think about it, it's actually up to $8,500 when you factor in $7,500 incentive federal. And then if there's any state incentives even above that. But for some people, you get a massive discount if you can work out state, federal, and military into it. I love that they're doing that. And it's like the most patriotic car built in the U.S. And it was fun to see that. Sadly, no Canadian Armed Forces, though. They said it's only for the U.S. military. I think it's a U.S. military.
It's supposed to be a U.S. car. I get it. But at the same time, you know, there's one of the biggest ownership of Tesla's is Canada outside of the U.S. But then you could be like, well, what about Mexico? And, you know, they're building stuff over there. And then maybe we need to add like the China, like anywhere there's a gigafactory, you know. Yes.
Once you... I want me my Cinco de Mayo discount. Only if they fill the front trunk with tacos. And speaking of silly, let's talk about Henrik Fisker and what him and his wife are doing to save... I mean, can they even save Fisker at this point from death? They're making the ultimate sacrifice, according to an article here. Every effort they can make to preserve cash right now they're trying to do. According to court filings, they've taken their salary each and brought it down to $1 apiece.
So, yeah, times have gotten pretty tough there. The reports are saying they're not using electricity at their headquarters. They're slashing employee headcounts. Of course, at one point, I believe they had like 13. So is it candlelit now or are they just like working from home? It's too soon, Kim. It's too soon.
At one point, they had 1,300 employees last September. They're down to like 130 or so now, cutting certain severance payments and incentive bonuses as well. They've even made a pretty interesting move here. They're actually selling 3,300 of the remaining oceans they have that they've already built to a leasing company for $46 million. You run the numbers and it comes out to about $14,000 per fiscal ocean.
So they're trying to get as much cash on their way out to, you know, get everything done. I feel like it's just sad. Like, it's just really sad. And I feel really bad for people who spent $70,000 on a Fisker Ocean. I mean, we put a reservation in. I know. I think it's a beautiful looking car. I just...
you know, wish that they were able to improve the software when we first tried it out. I was like, okay, you know, it's brand new. I'm willing to make an exception. They'll get some software updates in here, but then it just, they weren't able to do that. And yeah,
And their owners are, we met with so many of them. They are so in love with their EV and they reminded so much us of ourselves when we got our Teslas and it wasn't perfect in the beginning with glitches here and there and everywhere we looked and read, people were bashing our car and we were like, it's actually really good and it's getting better. But obviously, and Tesla was,
this close to being in the same exact position yeah you can't forget that and i mean this is like their second time around though at this happening i actually found out about fisker the the original what was it karma the karma before i even knew about tesla and i remember like justin bieber had this chrome one it was like in atlanta and i remember when i bought my subaru outback
Back in like 15 years ago, they had one at the dealership. Beaver's Karma was in the dealership. And I was like, look, look at this. It's electric. But again, that didn't make it. And now we're kind of seeing the same thing happen. So...
I don't know if they are, if they're able to take care of these, they could be like a place for them in history of only having a certain amount of them that were ever built. And, you know, maybe these, who knows what will happen with these last ditch efforts. Yeah. I mean, the DeLorean is very much in the similar boat, right? People have it and love it. And,
I kind of cherish it 30 years later, 40 years later, however many years it's been. In a couple months here, I think I'm going to go talk to some of our friends and see how they feel about their ocean and make an updated video on it. I'm curious to see where they'll be. Yeah.
