Tycho Brahe was a 16th century Danish astronomer. Brahe was born into a noble family but then kidnapped by his wealthy uncle Jørgen as a child. Jørgen wanted Brahe to become a lawyer but Brahe was fascinated by astronomy. After Jørgen's death, Brahe inherited his wealth and built an elaborate island observatory to pursue his interest in studying the stars and planets. Some quirky anecdotes are shared, like Brahe wearing a prosthetic bronze nose after losing his real one in a duel and befriending an elk he found in the woods. Brahe made important contributions to understanding planetary motion despite having no telescopes. He trained Johannes Kepler and created detailed astronomical observations that Kepler later used to derive his famous laws of planetary motion. Ultimately Brahe died at just 54 years old due to complications from a bladder infection he got from holding in his urine too long at a royal event.
