Spurs led 3-0 but nearly threw it away due to goalkeeper Fraser Forster's errors. Forster's mistakes allowed Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo to score, making it 3-2. Son Heung-min then scored directly from a corner, but Forster's third error led to a 4-3 final score, with Spurs advancing to the semi-finals.
Fraser Forster made critical errors, including kicking the ball straight to Bruno Fernandes, leading to a goal, and dawdling on a kick-out, allowing Amad Diallo to score. His mistakes nearly cost Spurs the game, despite earlier outstanding saves.
While Spurs won 4-3, their performance was criticized for being 'vintage Spursy,' with self-inflicted errors making the game harder than necessary. The team showed character to hold on, but the mistakes highlighted ongoing issues with game management.
The manager acknowledged Forster's disappointment but emphasized his overall outstanding performance. He noted that Forster needed to clear his head after the first error but remained confident in his ability to bounce back.
The Friedkin Group's takeover is seen as a positive move, with hopes for better management than under Fahad Moshiri. However, concerns remain about financial challenges and the potential influence of American ownership on the club's future and Premier League values.
Barry McGuigan advised Anthony Joshua to retire, citing his diminished ability to absorb punches and his already impressive career and financial security. He suggested Joshua could pursue commentary or other opportunities outside boxing.
Daniel Dubois expressed a desire for a rematch with Usyk to 'right that wrong' from their previous fight. He stated his goal is to fight for the undisputed heavyweight title, regardless of who wins between Usyk and Fury.
Luke Humphries felt Luke Littler deserved to win SPOTY for revolutionizing darts and bringing significant attention to the sport. He acknowledged Littler's second-place finish as a great achievement but believed his impact warranted the top award.

TalkSport Daily.
Hello, happy Friday everyone. Welcome to another Andy Goldstein Talks Sport Daily Podcast with me, your host Andy Goldstein. You'll notice there's no one interrupting me, no one stumbling and blubbering their way through the links. Of course, Jason Cundey, he's not about, so happy days. Right, so with all that in mind, we kick things off with the League Cup quarterfinal. As Prime Minister, Ange Postacoglu-Spurs hosted Ruben Amarim's mighty Man United, brought to you live by Talk Sport.
Plus the big one, of course. Chelsea took on Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League. That's real, is it? I thought that was in the B, no? Anyway, as always, the Sports Bar will take in your calls.
Super finish down low to the goalkeeper's right, but how is he allowed to get the shot away? No pressure on the ball from Manchester United. Or given away by Forster this time, back towards Xherxey, they're back in it.
Terrible error from Fraser Forster moments after making a brilliant save he's kicked it straight to Bruno Fernandes who sent it through the six-yard box Xherxey was waiting there he stabbed it home and it's Manchester United 1 Tottenham 3. They can't they can't throw it away from here Tottenham surely not. Amarim hopes it's a comeback and Amadiello has got them back on it and Forster
another massive mistake, dawdling on the kick-out, Ahmed Diallo has slid in and he's put the ball beyond Forster who's crestfallen because two mistakes by the goalkeeper have got Manchester United back in the game, it's 3-2. Manchester United very deep inside their penalty area, it's aimed towards the far corner, it's gone straight in from the corner, oh Son, what a goal!
Altai Biandir completely misjudged it and Son's corner has just gone straight over his head into the far corner. Foster Coghlu said football management is trickier than politics. I mean, I was skeptical earlier on in the day. I'm starting to believe him. Ahmad Diallo's corner into the near post, it's in, it's 4-3. And again, it's gone far too easily past Fraser Foster, who I think has allowed it to sneak through his hand. Top number three up and in control.
but they then became vintage Spurs, classic Spursy Spurs. Fraser Forster suddenly thought he was back at Southampton, playing out from the back but doing it really badly, simply having a blunderful Christmas time. At 3-2, United thought they might take it to penalties, but Son
scored straight from a corner that United's reserve keeper let sail over his head and into the net. There was still time for Forster to make another error, eventually finished 4-3 to Spurs who go through to the last four. Exciting and entertaining, clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, and a new rule in the Carabao Cup, you don't have to play with a proper goalkeeper in the team.
And congratulations through to the Carabao Cup semi-final. How's your heart? Is it okay? Because it was an eventful last 30 minutes. Yeah, it was. I said to the boys, it's probably a year, 18 months off my life, but it's still worth it. Yeah, look, we made the game hard for ourselves. We were so in control. We played really well. Obviously, we played really well.
And then, you know, it's a little bit like our season, just sort of self-inflicted sort of words on ourselves and made the game harder than it should have been. But, you know, we still had to show some character after that. And the most important thing is we got the win and we got through. You had a young team at points tonight. You got a lot of injuries. The fact that you went through that storm in the second half, was that almost inevitable because of the situation with the lack of availability of senior players as well?
Oh, to a certain extent. I mean, I don't think the goals we conceded were a reflection of that. I just thought, you know, just a couple of bad moments for Frey's and apart from that, he was outstanding because we didn't, I mean, you know, they had a few shots but weren't really under any threat. But obviously when they get the two goals, they get a bit of momentum and make some subs. We were tired, obviously. You know, we've been relying on this core group of players for a while now. We've got 10 off our senior list who are out for one reason or another for another game and...
You know, we had to hang on, but again, great character to see it out. You talked about Fraser Foster and the mistakes he's made. What has he said to you afterwards? He doesn't say anything. He doesn't say anything. He's, you know, he's disappointed for himself because I think before that he was outstanding. He has been outstanding for us and it was just a bad moment. I think the first goal probably we can see it affected him for a little while after and, you know, just needed to clear his head a little bit, but...
That's okay. He's a big boy, mate. He's a really big boy and I ain't arguing with him. So he'll be fine and for us, we just move along. Is it one of those games where actually the players that were involved tonight will take a lot from, they'll learn a lot from this because it has been something that's happened before where you've thrown away leads in games, but tonight they've come through that adversity. Is that something they're going to have in the back of their mind now when things start to go against them in big matches again?
Yeah, I guess so, to a certain extent. But, you know, I can't go away from the fact that we're still playing some unbelievable football. I mean, you know, we're scoring goals for fun with the Threadbare squad. Now, if anyone can show me anywhere around the world where that happens on a regular basis. So I don't get away from that. I know, OK, we've made another couple of mistakes tonight and made the game tighter than it should be. But there aren't many teams going out there scoring fours and fives on a regular basis, and we are, and...
I couldn't be prouder of the players for that. And does that leave you buoyant going into Sunday's game against Liverpool? Well, yeah. I mean, I'm not down. I'm pretty happy about it, yeah. We battered Man United, really. Three-nil up. See the game out. Faints would come in. We sit here and we slaughter Man United, right? And they got things wrong tonight, massively. But when it goes 3-1, and then you're watching them, and you're going, why are we still pressing? It's just who we are, mate. Why are we still trying to win balls in the other half of the pitch? Yeah.
Why we plan out from the back? It's just who we are, mate. Why don't you just go long? It's just who we are, mate. And why don't we just, you know, see it through? In-game management. See a game out. 3-1. Thanks for coming, you know, into the semi-final. We've ended up winning 4-3. We're 3-0. It's just who we are, mate.
The game finishes 4-3. You know, the definition of insanity, right, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. And we do the same thing over and over again. I can't remember what game it was. The one before Southampton. Who did we play? Can't remember. Anyway, every time we had the ball and tried to play it out the back, it got to Son on the left. He turned round and we lost it. The same with Johnson on the right. And it's like, ooh.
all the time. I've never known a team to put themselves under so much pressure time and time again when their strength lies in the complete opposite. Well, Ruben, it was absolute bedlam towards the end of that game. What is your overriding emotion afterwards? Is it one of pride that your team have fought back or...
furiousness that it got to that stage in the first place? Both. It's hard to express my feeling after the game. It's really hard because I think we controlled really well the beginning of the game. We had possession. We suffered a goal like
We cannot suffer. If you see the other games, it's the same thing. We have to improve on that. We really focus on set pieces and everything around our box. And then we managed to control the game. We had more possession. We are more aggressive near the box. We can reach more the right positions. I remember Chris for two times to have the position to score.
in the same position that they scored in just one opportunity. That thing mattered in the end. Second half we disconnected for nine minutes and it was really hard. It cost us the game because we suffered a goal. You can suffer, you can feel it, but then you have to have a long possession to calm down the game. We managed to lose a lot of balls again near our box.
But the fight of the guys after losing, we were so near the draw. I think we deserve it. And then we suffered another goal and killed the game. But even when we suffered the goal without time, we managed to score and to push the team. That was really important. But in the end...
doesn't feel nothing because there is no good taste from this game it will be tomorrow tomorrow I will see the game again and I will help the team to improve but today it's tough to deal with that you know Eriksen he's not going to be able to get around the pitch and dominate James Madison he's not going to be able to get on top of Suma so that team will get overrun in that formation because Eriksen is going to be exposed
And that's what we're seeing at the moment What about Anthony? You've played on the right wing If he's 85 million I've got to be 160 I'm just throwing it out Disappointing Yeah it's really disappointing Because you can see there's talent in there There's talent in there He's a talented footballer But
It just doesn't give you anything. We've just seen the semi-final draw. Arsenal against Newcastle is the first semi-final. Tottenham will play the first leg at home. And obviously, we are going to be playing against Liverpool. Whooping. Oh, shit.
Yes! Yeah, booty! That's what the doctor ordered. I wanted to see an Arsenal-Tottenham though. That would have been fantastic. That would have been a good one. But unfortunately, I mean, who's done that? Did I say Jamie Redknapp? If Jamie Redknapp's done it, he always gets us the worst tie ever. Jamie Redknapp needs to come off, you know, doing Spurs numbers. But you know what's the worst thing? Is that you're going to Anfield in the last game.
That's a killer, mate. That's a killer. What? Going to Anfield in the last game. Yeah, we have to go to Anfield. Killed us. Killed us. I mean, absolutely killed us. Talk Sport Daily. Now, the Friedkin Group completed its takeover of Everton this week, ending the tenure of Fahad Moshiri. Jim White won't be happy. Simon Floppy Air Jordan is optimistic for the future of the Toffees. Like any ownership model, I can promise them what awaits them is a hero's welcome. And then very shortly down the line...
some judgement and some strong opinions about what they do and don't do right. That's the nature of being an owner. That's the nature of being an owner in English football because it's fuelled by division and tribalism and inherent entitlement. But they've got, I think, a decent owner. I think certainly a better owner than Moshiri. A better owner than Moshiri? I think so, but only time will tell. What they can do with it
I don't know because they've still got the same challenges of the financial landscape of how Everton can reinvent itself to be in a position to be able to comply with financial fair play at the same time as want to be progressive. You have another American ownership in the Premier League which comes with, I think, legitimate concerns about what that looks like and how sport's going to evolve in this country with more and more American owners in the boardrooms. They'll tell you that they want to protect the values of the businesses that they invested in and they get the idea of it.
and roll forward 20 years and we might have a game of four quarters where advertising space is being sold and relegation is being removed because that's the primary motivations of American ownership, albeit he's spent some time in Roma.
So what could this mean for Sean Darshy-Darsh and a potential switch in gaffers? The Daily Mail's Northwest football correspondent, Dom King, or Big Dom to his friends, warned the club of links with the special one. That would be an unbelievable headline. It would be an incredible headline. It would be absolutely the worst thing that Everton could do. No disrespect to Jose Mourinho, but he's a man in his 60s now. He's had his time. He's had a brilliant career.
Everton need young, dynamic. They need someone that can shape them. They need David Moyes from 2002. They need a manager of that sort of ilk who's going to drive the players, who's going to pull the club with them, who's going to be ambitious and hopefully go a little bit step further because next year is going to be 30 years since they won a trophy.
Now, a freshman who stint down under in the Australian jungle, former featherweight champion Barry McGuigan was in the studio alongside Jim White and Simon Jordan. He had some words of advice for Anthony Joshua.
If I were managing AJ, I would say stop. Don't do anything. You know, you've done great. You've got a great reputation. He's a lovely young man. He's got, you know, a career ahead of him in commentary if he wants. He doesn't need to because he's earned so much money. So there's loads of things he can do. I just think his ability to soak up a shot has disappeared and therefore that's the time to exit. Do you want to guess? Didn't stop there. Oh, no, sirree. I
IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois joined Barry on the show. Triple D, the man who has been beaten by Usyk, was asked for his predictions in the big one tomorrow night. I would love to fight Usyk again, so if he wins, that would be great for me. I'd want to get that rematch back and right that wrong.
Whichever one of them wins. May the best man win and I want to fight for the undisputed. That's my stand on that. You're sitting on the fence, Daniel. Come on. Give us a winner. Come on, Barry. Come on, Daniel. I want you to tell us who's going to win. Whoever wants it the most. Come on. You're sitting on the fence. You've got splinters up your arse. Come on, Barry.
You know I'm not like that. You're not going to give us an outright winner. You're not going to give us a name. Oh, yeah. Go for Fury, man. I wanted to see him do it. But like I said before, I would love to get a rematch with Usyk. It's going to be a great fight either way. And don't forget, TalkSport brings you commentary of the huge unified heavyweight world title rematch between Usyk and Fury. It's live from Saudi Arabia tomorrow night. TalkSport Daily.
Now, we are officially in darts season with the PDC World Darts Championship underway at Alley Pally. And on my drive time show, we were joined by reigning champion of the world, Luke Humphries, who thought his rival Luke Littler should have won spotty.
Oh, you don't need to call me that. I mean, I was only... Oh, should have won the Spokesperson of the Year. I thought he was calling me Spock. I get it now. I thought he should have won the main one, to be fair. Just the way he sort of changed the game for darts. And, you know, seconds are a fantastic achievement. But I feel like I'm maybe being biased, but I thought he should have won the actual, the main one. But finishing seconds, obviously a great achievement as well. And, you know, he's brought the game on so incredibly well. It's, you know, since that final last year, the Ducks,
the crowd and the audience that we achieve now is absolutely amazing. And, you know, it would be an amazing spectacle if we could, you know, re-meet in that semi-final and, you know, put on a great show for the fans. I think that's what the, you know, the crowd wants and the fans want at home. You know, that game that, you know, is one of the best games in World Darts at the moment.
