We've all heard that carbs and sugar raise blood glucose and insulin. But the same applies to fat and ketones...what?!? The thing is that any source of energy in excess is a signal for the body to utilize it efficiently. High amounts of any fuel, whether that be glucose, fatty acids, or ketones in the bloodstream increases your body's energy usage and consequently may promote storage hormones such as insulin. Now, wait a moment! I thought being in ketosis immediately made you burn fat. Is this a scam?!? The thing is that there's a difference between ENDOGENOUS KETOSIS - burning ketones from your own adipose tissue - VS EXOGENOUS KETOSIS - burning ketones that come from dietary sources. Keto has become very popular due to its sheer effectiveness but there are many misconceptions that need to be clarified. Higher amounts of ketones isn't necessarily indicative of good metabolic health and it won't equal fat loss either The key to longevity is to become keto-adapted and teach your body to produce its own endogenous ketones through caloric restriction, low carb diet, fasting, exercise, and other similar biohacks That and much more in today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm Siim Land and our guest is Marty Kendall from Brisbane Australia.Marty runs a popular blog Optimising Nutrition and it's an amazing resource for knowing how certain foods affect your insulin and how to optimize your micronutrient intake We're going to talk about: What's the difference between the glycemic index and insulin index How much insulin does protein raise The unheard of situation of fatty acids and ketones raising insulin How exogenous ketones may actually shut off fat burning Why more ketones isn't better for health nor weight loss What's the difference between endogenous and exogenous ketosis How to optimize your nutrient density instead of energy density Which micronutrients you need to get from your food And Much More...
