On May 2, 2012, NFL Hall of Fame Linebacker Junior Seau shot himself in the chest with a .357 magnum revolver at his home in Oceanside, CA. He was only 43. It’s thought that Junior deliberately shot himself in the chest so that his brain could be studied by scientists. Five specialists consulted by the NIH by the NFL ultimately diagnosed Seau with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the disease found in dozens of former players that died way too young. The fact that Junior Seau never had a diagnosed concussion in his 20 seasons playing professional football raised many questions for the NFL and scientists trying to study his brain. Dee & Reesh discuss the science behind the tragedy in this episode.
