Social media has been around for a while now. Can you believe Facebook is 15 years old, or that Twitter is 13? And it's not all about marketing - Martin quotes a McKinsey study which found that 70% of the value of social has nothing to do with marketing. We're talking customer service, innovation/R+D and even raising capital.
