Is a teacher's role to inform or to channel the thoughts of students? If not as a disciplinarian of a classroom, what can a teacher's role aspire to be? How pivotal are the younger years of a child's life to their learning destinies? Maria Montessori, in the 19th century, decides to find out. This week we discuss Italian physician and educator, Maria Montessori's work. Breaking into the then male-dominated field of medicine, she made many discoveries that impact thinking around early childhood education to this day. In this episode we discuss the role of a teacher, respecting a child as an individual, honouring the innate creativity in children, and the potential benefits of toys/equipment that are pared-down versions of their modern counterparts.
