Is it the function of the government to be the protector of the citizens? If so, to what extent? Should the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches assume TOTAL responsibility for our safety and ensure that no harm will ever come to us? Of course not. Safety is an illusion, and anyone who tells you otherwise is most likely a politician. Let's discuss the true functions of the government, how the government is expected, and able, to guarantee our safety, and how I think that it is not the purpose of government to keep us SAFE, but instead to keep us FREE. We are then expected to use that freedom to take responsibility of our own safety.
