The Chicago Bears were denied permission to talk to Mike McCarthy because he is still under contract with the Dallas Cowboys. The Bears won't need permission once McCarthy's contract expires, but for now, the Cowboys are blocking any discussions.
The Chicago Bears are looking for a head coach with a clear vision, a developmental mindset, strong game management skills, and a plan to develop a quarterback. They aim to cast a wide net, considering candidates from diverse backgrounds, including offense, defense, special teams, and both college and pro levels.
Logan Ryan, a former teammate of Gerard Mayo, expressed confusion and disappointment over the decision. He speculated that the Patriots might be making room for Mike Vrabel, as Mayo was given the job quickly and fired just as abruptly, suggesting a potential shift in the team's strategy.
Trey Young's buzzer-beater from beyond half-court was a game-winning shot that stunned the Jazz. It capped off a remarkable performance where Young recorded 24 points and 20 assists, showcasing his ability to deliver in clutch moments.

Yep, Graybar does that. A hump show, a middle show of the work week.
I kind of feel like this week is one in which people will definitely need to mark the middle point of the work week so that we can look downhill toward the weekend. I know it's a lot of football this weekend, though for many of you that's great news. For me it means a lot of work. For us it means we've got commitments this weekend. But I was just saying to my husband on Tuesday, can we just stay in our sweatpants all weekend long?
unpack Christmas presents, finish unpacking the clothes that are still partly in bags from our two-week journey. I will do the cleaning. I'll get the laundry done, but I just want to hang out in sweatpants all weekend. And it's supposed to be really cold too. I know a lot of people are dealing with cold in the upper Midwest, in the mid-Atlantic, even of course the Northeast, but
The wind chills are the part that are nutty. So in my neighborhood right now, and it was really this way all day long, even the dogs were cold. They didn't want to go outside, so we weren't really outside much with them at all. But because of the backside of this situation,
winter storm that passed across really the midsection of the country. The winds are still howling on the back end of it. And so we've got wind chills in the New York City area that are in the single digits. And overnight, oh, zero degrees, one degree.
I know you all, many of you understand how that feels on your skin. Certainly when you go outside and you get blasted by the wind. Now, I don't mind the cold. I really don't. But that's extreme. And it requires two, three pairs of pants when you go outside to walk the dog. So this weekend coming up, it'll just be sweatpants and comfy clothes and a whole lot of football. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. I'm glad to have you with us. You
You can find me online at ALawRadio and also on our Facebook page. And if you don't know what the Hump Show means, in fact, there could be a few of you who are just listening for the first time this week or in 2025. I actually saw a post on our Facebook page maybe three shows ago. Maybe it was Sunday night.
And that would make sense considering how much people tune in during the playoffs, or in this case, the run-up to the playoffs, because football, as you know, drives the bus. And so we get new listeners all the time who maybe won't listen to any other point of the year, but they want to keep up with the NFL postseason and college football, too, to a lesser extent.
And so I saw a guy who posted, listening to this show for the first time. And so far I like it. I mean, give me a couple of minutes. I'm sure it could change your mind. No, no, no. I say generally, if you give me two weeks, you'll be hooked.
For better or for worse, you may hate the show, but you still have to listen. I got another message on our social media from a dude who said he's been listening to me for 20 years. Now, I've only been here for 12 only, I say. He's been listening for 20 years, but Pete, you're going to love this. He said, recently, I've gotten too loud.
Recently, I've gotten too loud. So he's out, he said, after 20 years. Oh, he's out. Okay. After 20 years, because I've gotten too loud. That's a really rash reaction. After 20 years. It took him 20 years to decide. Honestly, I feel like I'm less...
I don't want to say less loud because that sounds funny. I'm not nearly as loud and prone to emotional outbursts as I used to be. I do laugh pretty loudly, but I'm not sure what he means by too loud.
Microphone does all the work, though I don't generally need it in many cases when I'm doing public speaking. Our phone number is 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. We've got the latest on the NFL coaching carousel. Another head coach let go and...
You can call it a surprise. I am not in any way surprised by the fact that the Bears have been denied permission to talk to Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy. Now, his contract runs through, I think it's just part of next week. And so he's, yeah, he's...
not under contract for much longer. So the bears won't need permission from the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones for much longer when it comes to Mike McCarthy. So I'm not really sure whether it's, like I said, whether it's necessary for them to have made this gesture. They,
Want to get a jump on their coaching search, obviously, but they won't need permission unless, of course, Jerry is planning to give Mike McCarthy a contract extension. Unless, of course, Jerry Jones and his family, his son, Stephen, if they are working together,
toward a contract extension with McCarthy's agent, that would explain why they don't want him talking to any other teams. But I'm telling you, I'm not in any way surprised by this.
I did make a, I don't want to call it snarky because I wasn't really being snarky, but I was trying to be funny. A comment on our last show about how Jerry was too busy acting in Landman to deal with Mike McCarthy right now. And then producer Pete, I heard the clips. I'd seen them on social media, but I heard them played on one of our local affiliates.
on Tuesday morning, so I thought that'd be kind of fun to bring back for our national audience because Jerry Jones crushes it, absolutely delivers in his role in Landman. So we'll give you the latest Jerry Jones thing on Tuesday. Doesn't he do his weekly press conference? Well, press conference, his weekly radio interview with our Dallas affiliate to 105 three, the fan.
He's all over the place right now. He's maybe the most popular dude in football because he's got the answers that people seek. So we'll talk about the latest in the NFL head coaching searches and, of course, the changes. There could still be more. We...
have football on the horizon. So we'll talk a little bit about the two college football semifinals. These are national semifinals. So think Final Four like you would get in college hoops, though in April. You can think that format. There are 12 teams down to four now. A game on Thursday and a game on Friday. And so we will talk a little bit about those games as we get closer to the kickoff.
You've got Penn State, Notre Dame in the first one. And if you missed it, I talked to our friend Mike Golick, who joined us on Sunday night, talked to him about Notre Dame and the Fighting Irish, what they need to do to be able to beat Penn State. And then it's Texas and Ohio State coming up on Friday. Saturday, we kick off in the NFL already. You have...
Bunch of the different quarterbacks and coaches looking ahead, even as some of them are maybe in demand for head coaching jobs or at least in demand for interviews like, say, a Brian Flores happening in the NFL. It's this fun juxtaposition of news, hirings, firings, personnel, draft speculation, that type of thing. Reaction to what's happened so far is,
But it's also preparation for the playoffs. So it's the teams that do and the teams that don't still have games. It's the haves and the have-nots, if you will. Plus, as I say, college, which will be a lot of fun. While we're thinking about football and thinking about this time of the year, well, gosh, not even five weeks to the Super Bowl, I was actually thinking about our Ask Amy and wondering if we could come up with a theme for it. But, Pete, it never fails.
Because I haven't even really looked at the comments or the questions that are posted on our social media. But I glanced when I was posting, when was I posting? Oh, the link to our conversation with Karen Garigian. And of course, someone asked me who's going to win the Super Bowl. Of course. So I don't care. I don't care what the theme is.
I'm going to go with Browns. I don't care what the theme is at all. You can do a football theme. We can do a food theme. We can do, man, it's cold out here theme, whatever it is. But don't ask me who's going to win the Super Bowl. How are you supposed to know who's going to win the Super Bowl when you don't know who's going to be in the Super Bowl? I don't.
I try to ask this question. I don't ever really get an answer. Maybe people think I'm being rhetorical. I can't pick a Super Bowl winner when I don't know who's actually in the Super Bowl. Super Bowl 59. Gosh, that means I feel old. And it's also a very broad question because it could be any Super Bowl at any time. Ha ha. Who's going to win Super Bowl 50? Right. The Broncos.
Right. It could be that. See? So it's After Hours with Amy Lawrence and Ask Amy Anything is part of our home show. It's a tradition. It now goes back
12 years. You guys, we're entering year number 12 with Ask Amy Anything. It was a feature and an opportunity that we started going back to year two, working at what was the brand new CBS Sports Radio. Now it's the Infinity Sports Network. I don't know either. I'm sorry. I don't know why. I can't give you any explanation for that either.
And so if you're just tuning in to the show for the first time or the first time in a long time, then you may wonder what it's all about. Well, you can go to our show twix at Amy after hours and you can post your questions or if you want to go to our Facebook page, you're looking for a an obnoxiously a bright, obnoxiously orange box with a thought bubble that says, ask Amy, you
You can do this. I know you can. And creative questions. Please don't ask me who's going to win the Super Bowl because you will be disappointed. I have, too, while we're talking about fun stuff that's kind of off the beaten path, I have, too, an email from our sole survivor, Pete. I heard from him on social media.
I don't know if you and I were working together at the time because we just did one show together over the holidays or actually I guess it was New Year's night. But did I tell you he wants gluten-free cookies? And I don't have any recipes for gluten-free cookies. So I'm on the search.
But Pat, who is in Florida, I think just north of Gainesville, he told me, he is very excited about the fact that he's the sole survivor. He reached out multiple times on both of our social media sites so that he could ensure we did not miss him and know that he was the sole survivor. How anyone survived that late in this season is remarkable. I think he was still alive in week 16. Yeah, that's something. What? I can't
even get out of week one. And if I do get out of week one, I can't get out of the first month. But this just not, I don't know how to do it. Such a wacky year. Yes. Well, and the Bengals losing the opener to the Patriots. Remember, that was the high note for New England, really. And if you look back on it, the Bengals lost, cost them the playoffs. You can look at that game as that game cost the Bengals the playoffs and cost the Patriots a number one pick.
You mean the very first game? Yeah. Yeah, they all weigh the same, of course. But I think for the Bengals, that was such a shock. And they maybe weren't able to recover from that game until they were a couple of weeks down the road. Obviously, the offense...
found such a great rhythm and Joe Burrow put up MVP-like numbers. I don't believe he's going to be the MVP, but he put MVP-like numbers up throughout the course of the season outside of that game. But the defense was just really bad. And so they lost so many close games in large part because the defense could not hold water. And so, yeah, so that one is, yeah, that one's a...
It's a conundrum, right, for the Bengals? Well, when they were saying, I think, about week five or six, it takes us time to settle into our groove, basically, I knew they were done. I had a feeling they were done. That's a hard thing to say. And at that point in a football season, I think, when things could blow out one way or another.
Well, and the fact that the defense really never settled into a groove. And it was way too much responsibility for the offense. So we've got lots of different ways we can go for Ask Amy Anything. It doesn't have to be football. Most of the time the questions are not sports related, sometimes about history. And I would love to hear from you. We have multiple posts up.
at Amy After Hours. If you haven't yet voted for TD of the Week, we'll let you hear those candidates coming up next. And then our Facebook page too. And in addition, our phone number, 855-212-4227. If you would like to...
weigh in about the coaching search or any of the NFL playoff games coming up. I'm actually really excited. I don't know, Pete. I think we're going to have to do two polls for the TD of the week coming up. It's really not fair to eliminate any of the playoff games, right? So how are we going to do it? Three from the AFC, three from the NFC. I suppose we could do it that way. Oh,
Yeah. You could do an AFC one and an NFC one, yes. Wild card one, wild card two, wild card A, wild card B. That's very fair. I think it's very fair. All right, we can do that. In fact, we can post them at any point. But this is our home show, and what we need for you is your questions for Ask Amy and...

Those are your candidates for After Hours TD of the Week. Last one in the regular season, Week 18. Josh Blackwell, first career touchdown, goes 94 yards. He's veritably untouched by the way.

Find that poll I just retweeted at ALawRadio, but also on our show twix at Amy After Hours. And you can find it by scrolling onto our Facebook page.
Right now, we've got a pretty healthy competition going among three of the candidates, but I won't tell you which ones. You can go and check it out on your own. 855-212-4227. We were talking about the Chicago Bears. Well, and Josh Blackwell here. They finish up with a win, lifting their spirits, ending on a high note. I know it mattered to them as well because they'd already fired their coach, Matt Eberflus. You had...
Thomas Brown as the interim head coach. And while he's not likely to get that job, fact is it's been a bleak season for the Bears in what was the toughest and most entertaining division in football this year, the NFC North, the Bears were a basement dweller and there was so much
promise in this year, feeling like with Caleb Williams, they had the right people around him, especially offensively. The defense had started out on a high note, but there really weren't a lot of games in which both defense and offense were on the same page and where they were able to put together a complete performance. And the number of times that they went through long droughts without producing any quality offense.
I mean, you can look at the numbers for Caleb Williams and know that he is meant to be an NFL QB. There's no question about that. A lot of the play calls and just in general, the offensive line was rough as well. And so they've got a lot of work to do in the upcoming offseason, and that starts with finding a head coach. Ryan Poles remaining as the general manager. We just heard the report late on Tuesday saying
I think Adam Schefter had the news that the Bears are not allowed to speak with Mike McCarthy as long as he's under contract with the Dallas Cowboys. That may not be much longer, but at least for now, not allowed to speak to him and to his camp.
But Ryan was talking about the latest, where they are, the latest on their search, what they're looking for in a candidate and how they plan to approach this search. We're looking for clear vision, a developmental mindset, really good game management, and obviously a plan to develop a quarterback is going to be a key part of that as well.
We're going to cast a wide net. It's going to be a diverse group. There's going to be different backgrounds from offense, defense, special teams, college, pro. We are turning every stone to make sure that we're doing this the right way. We believe that's going to be really, really important.
There's going to be some names that you don't expect that are going to surprise you because we're digging deeper than we ever have before. In terms of timing, we're going to move with urgency, but we are not going to rush the process, again, because we want it to be a sound process. Okay. You don't want to hit a water main digging. A couple...
A couple of things that stand out to me. First of all, did you hear how he spoke about Caleb Williams? Can you fire that up again? It's in the first 10 seconds. At first, when I heard it, Pete, I thought, wait a minute, are they changing quarterbacks? Really good game management.
And obviously a plan to develop a quarterback is going to be a key part of that as well. This holiday season, put pork on your fork. So I'm assuming he's speaking about Caleb Williams without referencing him, but at first
But at first I thought, wait a minute, they already have a quarterback. Why are they developing another quarterback? It makes it seem like the player's not even on the roster. Right, exactly. So that was kind of funny. And then when he talks about digging deep and churning up candidates that maybe will be a surprise, I was thinking, oh my gosh, they're going to go for a college coach. They're going to bring someone in who's got zero head coaching experience.
Maybe it's about picking the brain of a college coach, a great offensive mind. I know there have been some recent coaches in the NFL that have no experience as coaches, but they're figuring it out because of their offensive prowess, like a Mike McDaniel. Well, Mike McDonald, a different thing, right? He came from the defensive side of the ball. Coordinators generally can step up and make coaches. But I think in the case of Matt Eberflus and how that went, you wouldn't,
the Bears were going to go the direction of someone who didn't have any experience again. I kind of feel like what they need is someone who has head coaching experience because they're not in full rebuild mode. They do have elements of their team and the roster that they need to rebuild, but they don't need to start over again. We're not talking about the New England Patriots who other than
other than Drake may don't have a whole lot on their roster. We're talking about a team that believes there are a couple pieces away around what is now the franchise quarterback. What they need is a coach to give them an identity and a culture and teach them how to win and lead them. They don't need to start all over again. So to me, that's an experienced coach who walks in with credibility. And if you're wanting to talk to Mike McCarthy, you,
I don't think you need to dig a whole lot deeper than an experienced coach who's got some winning on his resume. Mike McCarthy, Pete Carroll. Before he went to North Carolina, Belichick would have been perfect, I thought, for this job. Hard news. This is one of the openings that they should not be digging deep.
Go get a coach with experience and a winning resume. That's it. And it'll help develop your quarterbacking, and you don't have that risk of setting your quarterback back again with Cale Williams. Yeah, I would agree with you that they don't need to be starting from scratch, and everybody's growing up at the same time on the job.
Not that that, again, it sometimes works out, but you've had more examples lately where it hasn't worked out with guys who don't have any coaching experience. Robert Sala was a coordinator, but he was not ready to become a head coach. And he was figuring it out, but it was him and a bunch of other guys
and a bunch of other new coaches around him on the staff. So the learning curve was extreme. How about with Gerard Mayo in New England, also not ready to become a head coach? And a lot of times, if you're a brand-new coach, you can put more experienced people around you, and that will help.
I like what Karen Garigian said on the show last night. She made the point of Sean McVay. Remember, Sean McVay brought in Wade Phillips, and Wade was his right-hand man and his sounding board for a lot of the... There was such a discrepancy. Wasn't it like 50 years difference in ages, Marco Belletti's here in studio, between Sean and Wade? Because at the time, a lot was made of the fact that they were so different in terms of their backgrounds and their path through football. So it's not...
It's not as though a new guy can't win, but with a team like the Bears that has such an established tradition, not to mention the fact that your division is so much stronger right now, you can't afford to bring in someone who needs time, who is going to need...
years to get himself in, you know, learned and taught how to be a head coach. With the case of Dean Campbell, remember they went three and 13 in their first season. And it was pretty rough at the beginning, but he had a plan. He had a culture in mind that he wanted to establish. Now the NFC North is the best division of football. And if the Bears want to keep up, they really,
I think, need to go the direction of an experienced veteran coach. Yeah, that division's like... Maybe not old, but... That division's like the space race. You need to have any edge you can. And like we said, experienced coach will be their edge.
I think so. I think so, too. Not to mention it gives confidence to a locker room that's kind of been through it now over the past couple of years. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Interesting reaction while we're talking about Gerard Mayo and him not being ready. That's what Bob Kraft told us.
One of his former teammates, Logan Ryan, who is now a member of the media, does a lot of stuff on Sirius XM NFL radio. But you kind of see him around. He's yeah, I think he's really good in a media role, though it's not a prominent one right now. But he was reacting on Sirius XM to this decision that Bob Kraft made to fire Mayo. I honestly don't get it. You know, I was a New England Patriot for many years. I was teammates with Gerard Mayo, you know,
I knew that he would be a head coach one day just based on the personality type. And, you know, they had a bad year. Yes, but they had a bad roster. So I don't think they're anticipating a bad year. Yes, they put Drake May in maybe a little too late and he was better than people thought right away. But it was probably all in agreement when they made a decision when to play him. Yes, he fumbled in the media a couple of times, but that's rookie head coach mistakes like I don't.
I don't understand why get the job, give a job to a guy that he really can't win in and then fire him. The only thing I can wrap my head around, I know Bob Kraft's a smart guy and this seems very unlike Robert Kraft, in my opinion, very unlike him for the man. And I know seems a little rash and harsh and quick. I don't think he operates like that.
It has to be for Mike Vrabel. If it's not for Mike Vrabel, then I do not understand at all. It has to be that they know that they want Mike Vrabel, and this is their one opportunity to get Mike Vrabel because if they don't get him now, he's not going to be available in a year. So if it's not Mike Vrabel, then not what I even understand, but it's really unfair and unjust what they did to Jerron Mayer.
Logan Ryan, two-time Super Bowl champion who played with Mayo, drafted by the Patriots going back to 2013. And he's a little confused about why you pull Mayo and give him the hook so quickly unless it's for Mike Vrabel. Now, what we know...
regarding the Patriots search is that they've already done their diligence to interview a pair of candidates to fulfill the Rooney rule. So that's been done. It was done within 48 hours. I don't know who the candidates are. I'm not sure, Marco, if you've seen the names. I don't know who they interviewed there, but I do know that Hamilton and Byron left, which if memory serves. Okay, thank you. I did hear Byron's name around too. So they've
already fulfilled the requirements of the Rooney rule, which requires that you interview a couple of candidates who
whether African-American, whether Hispanic, whatever it is, you have to make sure that you include some. But with the Mike Vrabel interview coming up on Thursday, I would not be surprised if we had an announcement, if Vrabel is their target and he's as interested as they are, I wouldn't be surprised if we had an announcement for the Patriots before any other candidate.
team fills its job. Yeah, look, Vrabel's getting that job. I mean, there's no doubt in my mind that he's getting that job. The only thing that's weird to me, on top of everything else, it's not just, well, if it's not Vrabel, what are you doing? Like, I agree with Logan Ryan, but the thing, the part that's missed...
Vrabel was available last year. You could have did this last year. Well, the thing is, though, it was in Mayo's contract. Yeah, you could have figured that out. I don't buy that as the reason. I feel like, honestly, it was stubbornness that Robert Kraft felt like this was the path he had chosen for the last five years that apparently Mayo had this contract that none of us knew about, including Bill Belichick, apparently. So I think he was stubborn. This was the path I was going to do. This is what I was set out to do. We're going to do it. And then I think he got a few weeks in and was like...
We doing this the right way? I don't know. We just passed on Vrabel, and I'm not really confident that Mayo's my guy. And as the year went on, he just felt like, I can't miss twice. That's what I felt. Can't miss twice on Vrabel, because if you don't do it now, you won't get him. Ooh, I couldn't disagree with you more. As someone who is...
big into contracts. I don't think... And this happens in broadcasting all the time, Marco. People have stuff written in their contracts. Hey, if this person retires, I get to step in and do that play-by-play, or I get to step in and get that job. I disagree. If it's written in his contract, then...
You could work it out. You hand-picked him. I know, but we've seen this before. Hold on. I'm not done. Maybe Mayo wasn't going to let him out of it. I don't think that Bob Kraft should be off the hook just because Bob goes to him and says, Hey, sorry, Mike Vrabel's available, so we're going to tear up this part of your contract. If you wrote it in the contract so you didn't lose Mayo and Bill Belichick retires a year earlier, too bad. You put it in his contract.
Unless you're going to buy him out. That's what I was going to say. I feel like you could probably get to the point where you buy him out, but I don't think that that's what he wanted to do. I think he was stubborn in the fact that, and again, there's an ego involved there, and Bob Craft has one, and a lot of us do, but I think he looked at it as the idea that this is the path that I took. I want this to be, and it's going to be, even though Vrabel's available, I'm not going down that road. I've made up my mind. I've done this for years. We're going to go with Gerard Mayo. And as the season progresses,
I think he had second thoughts. And I think this is the only chance that he has to give Rabel now, because if you do pass on it this year,
There's no chance that Vrabel's not getting a job on this cycle. I was shocked he didn't get one last year. There's no chance that every team passes him up. The idea that if you went with Mayo for a second year and Vrabel's going to be available next year, I think Robert Kraft knew, now or never, and I think he chose now. Vrabel was actually in line for the Chargers job until Jim Harbaugh became available, and Harbaugh, of course, had a history that

New minority owner Tom Brady said to be involved in trying to find that replacement. Titans said goodbye to GM Rand Carthon, however, they're holding on to head coach Brian Callahan. Mike McDaniel seemed to chalk it up to just being a little emotional after a rough year. The competitive spirit of his can represent post-game, especially in a season or a game that nobody likes.
It could allude to a relationship being one way. I think I was very direct with him. He was very honest, and it was great terms that we were discussing. Ravens getting set for the Steelers. Lamar Jackson looking to get that elusive ring to put on his resume with his two MVPs. He admits he needs to take things a little slower in the playoffs. Yeah, I'd just be too excited. That's all, you know, too ashy. Like, I'm seeing things before I happen. Like, oh, I got to calm myself down. But, yeah.
Just being more experienced, I found a way to balance it out. NBA Celtics too much for the Nuggets, 118-106, Jason Tatum, 29. T-Wolves bounce Pelicans, 104-97, Anthony Edwards at 32. Mavericks route the Lakers, 118-97, he'd dominate the Warriors, 114-98. Hawks outscore the Jazz, 124-121, Trae Young 24-20 assists, including a half-court heave at the buzzer that won it. Hornets erase the Suns, 115-104, LaMelo Ball with 32, and the Rockets overpower the Wizards, 135-112.

Watch don't have time. There's Trey. Midcourt fires. Bang! Trey Young just won the game. Trey Young just won the game, folks. Trey from midcourt. He just stunned the silent crowd here in Utah.
from midcourt just knocked down a three and the Hawks win. We had three seconds left. Just try to get the ball in quick. Try to tell Dyson or whoever to get the ball in quick and hopefully try to get a shot up and I mean we practiced those shots growing up and having fun and even in practice and I'm just glad I had an opportunity today to do it in the game and win it for us and
I'm glad. This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. What a moment for Trey Young in Salt Lake City. A buzzer beating three from beyond half court.
And what a wild few seconds for Colin Sexton of the Jazz. He had forced overtime, or at least he thought, by hitting a three with four seconds left on the clock, only to then guard Trey Young, not face guarding him, trying not to foul him, I suppose, but not guarding him beyond half court. So
So that Young was able to get off the shot that then stunned the Jazz. And they end up winning that game. And Trey had 24 points and 20 assists. And he refers to Dyson Daniels who also had 16 points. And the last assist of the game. The 7th. Pretty incredible moment there for Trey Young. The call with Steve Holman on Hawks Radio. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. We had a couple of...
profile games in the NBA and in college basketball, actually. And pretty soon, hoops and hockey will step to the forefront. If you didn't see it, the Lakers and the Mavericks, they did battle in, I think it was Dallas, actually. Yes, I think it was Dallas. And just shooting the lights out were the Mavericks from beyond the arc. So that's always helpful, right? They are able to beat
the Lakers by more than 20. It was only a five-point game at halftime when I was watching it. Always look and follow Klay Thompson. They did not have Kyrie Irving. Instead, they were able to shoot their way to a big victory, 47% from beyond the arc.
The big deal before this game and really after the game, too, for the Lakers. Now, they're away, right? They're on this road trip. But their families are back in the area where there are massive fires that are consuming homes.
So much acreage in the Palisades area and also in Malibu. And if you know anything about that part of L.A., a lot of very expensive homes and rich Americans live in those neighborhoods. And so there are celebrities who are sharing videos and photos online or even asking for prayers or saying, I'm standing here.
Here watching these fires come closer and closer to my house. So I know the videos and the photos are terrifying. There have been some that have been posted from the air. So the aerial photos, especially the nighttime photos, you can see the orange glow over a huge section of woods just off the Santa Monica Bay. I'm sure many of you...
No people that live in L.A. or in the area. I have several close friends, including one with whom I went to college. She and her family are right outside the evacuation zone. They can see the glow. They can smell the smoke. Her daughter's school is in the evacuation zone. And so she's not going to school right now. She's got both her daughters with her as well as a couple of pets.
Her husband happens to be away traveling, but I've known her since I was at Syracuse and very concerned about her. So I was texting with her a little while ago to make sure that she was okay. They're staying put, but they don't have power. So their power is already out, even though they're not in the evacuation zone at this moment. Our friend Amy Trask, she lives in L.A., and I know Malibu is one of her favorite places to go to the beach. She's a huge beach bum, so also reached out to her. I was...
surprised that I did not hear back a couple hours ago. She's a very, well, she goes to bed early. She's a very early riser, but she's also in bed early. So I'm believing that she was in bed. She was sleeping, which means that she's okay. I hope that's the case. I know both
my friend was having trouble with her phone, so some of the texts were going through and not, and there was a delay. I hope that's not the case with Amy, but that she's sleeping peacefully, but I am looking forward to hearing back from her on Wednesday. So thinking of not just the families and the homes, the businesses, the churches, just the amount of life that is in the pathway of these two fires, but
Also thinking about thousands and thousands who've had to evacuate without knowing what's left behind. And that includes J.J. Reddick's family. Acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in the Palisades right now. It's where I live, my family and my wife's family, my wife's twin sister. They've evacuated. I know that a lot of people are freaking out right now.
including my family. And from the sound of things with the winds coming tonight, I know a lot of people are scared. So I just want to acknowledge that and thoughts and prayers for sure. I hope everybody stays safe. That's the voice of JJ Reddick, a little off mic there. But the fact that he, his family, his wife's family, that he can speak to the fear, the terror of leaving or having to leave is,
And not knowing what happens to your home and to your possessions. And while possessions, many of them, not all of them, possessions are largely replaceable. They can be either rebuilt or repurchased or found again. People are not. Pets are not. And I have been in situations with pets.
severe weather, so not fires, but severe weather when I lived in Oklahoma. And it, yeah, it can be such a
A tough decision to make, to leave when what you want to do is stay and make sure that your home is okay. That's your haven. You don't want to leave it behind and be left with the uncertainty, but it's the people and the pets that cannot be replaced. And so just thinking of everyone in this area, Palisades and Malibu, certainly it's affecting the sports world as well as the entertainment world.
As you can imagine, the music industry, but it's not just people who have a lot of money. It's everyday Americans who are afraid for their safety, but also afraid for the people that they care about, afraid for their homes and their businesses. So I'm,
Praying a lot over just the firefighters and the first responders and the number of hours and manpower that's going into this to try to contain a fire. They say that the blazes, they're raging and the video and the photos are terrifying. So please, please be safe. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence.
