Legendary punk rock goddess Alice Bag is a multi-talented trailblazing artist. Musician, singer/songwriter, author of two critically acclaimed books, educator and ferocious feminist. She’s also a rock’n’roll historian, creator/curator of the “Women In LA Punk Archives”, a platform with first person accounts of the lives of several female musician and scene makers in the 1970’s. She burst onto the scene fronting one of the first punk bands in Los Angeles, The Bags. She’s been in several other groundbreaking bands including Castration Squad, Cholita and Las Tres; The Alice Bag Band was featured in “The Decline Of Western Civilization. She continues to be super creative, prolific and active; The Bag’s third album, “Sister Dynamite” was released on vinyl by In The Red Records during the pandemic. Alice and hostess Pleasant Gehman share over forty years of history and friendship. In this episode, they chat about the late 70’s Hollywood punk underground, The Bags’ first gig at The Masque, the time The Bags paid a visit to a police station, and living at the infamous Canturbury Arms apartments. Alice tells stories about the early 80’s East LA Chicano punk scene and it’s notorious club The Vex; illegal/underground shows in LA, her impending relocation to Mexico City, LA punk vs NYC punk and much more.
