When your first $5 bet wins, follow us on all social media platforms, even the ones that work again. Very stunned today that Twitter wasn't working. I'm just stunned. That was through a little wrench in the plans, but hey, we were on some other sites and able to follow everything all day long. It started off at noon with some big signings. You knew Carlton Davis was done-so with the Lions when the Panthers re-upped with J.C. Horn, J.C. Lena Horn.

and gave him four years and $100 million, right? Not even a top 10 cornerback in this league. Good player. But when he, you know, he's not Patrick Sertan or A.J. Terrell or Jalen Ramsey, and he got $25 million a year. And I'm like, uh-oh, Carlton Davis is getting $20 million. And Carlton Davis did get $20 million.

And is now no longer with the Lions. But, you know, look, we'll get into all of this coming up momentarily. We got to talk about the newest Lion, DJ Reed. We got to talk about Carlton Davis leaving. Marcus Davenport is back. Zedarius Smith is gone. The Bears. Let's get the t-shirts printed in Chicago. Let's get Ben Johnson in a quarter zip with the...

uh, dumb Barty trophy because no one wins the off season off season champions like the Chicago bears. Nobody, nobody does it better than the, uh, than the bears when it comes to the off season. All right, let's, let's start with this. Let's talk about cornerback for a second, because like I said before, we were hopeful talking on Friday.

And it was kind of a shot in the dark. We were hopeful that the Lions were going to bring Carlton Davis back. He had a really good season last year. He was making $13 million last season. They traded for him, of course, from Tampa to get a veteran in there to go with the young kids and everything else. And they're moving on from Cam Sutton and all this. And Carlton Davis had a really good year. Got hurt at the end of the year, broke his jaw, and was going to hit the free agent market. And he had spent the last couple days on his Twitter account

basically saying, you want me, pay me. And it became pretty clear that the Lions were not going to dip their toe into the very deep pool to keep Carlton Davis. So Horn gets 25 mil from Carolina a year. Carlton Davis signs with the Patriots. All right, now look, if you're going to New England,

That means that New England has to overspend. I think it was Albert Breer at SI said it best the other day on a Boston radio station. In order for the Patriots to become relevant again, they're going to have to overspend because a lot of players don't want to go there. It's not a destination place to play.

So today, New England went out and got like Milton Williams from the Eagles for 26 million a year. Guy's a tremendous defensive tackle, but they had to overpay to get them. And they beat out the Panthers who were about to get them at the last minute. Patriots put in some more sweeteners and it was 26 mil a year for Milton Williams. This free agent class this year was not great. Many players had re-signed at the end of last week. And so the names weren't huge.

Carlton Davis then looks at the JC Horn contract and he got $20 million a year from the Pats. Carlton Davis is going to New England on a three-year $60 million deal. So with Davis gone, you figure Brad Holmes is going to take his time. Lions general manager is not going to go too crazy, not going to maybe break the bank, maybe see what's more around the $14, $15, $13 million a year range for a cornerback.

And he goes out and gets a really good football player. And this was a nice, nice signing by the lions. DJ Reed is coming to Detroit. Formerly of the jets guy. That was a fifth round pick years ago. The Niners got cut, was cut, cut in Seattle, found a home with New York. And in seven seasons in the NFL has played good football. He gets three years, $48 million. So 12 million less for DJ Reed, who is very comparable to Carlton Davis. Now,

Some of you are going to go, well, I looked up his numbers and his size. What are we doing? We can't have a 5'9", 5'10", guy playing outside. Well, in the playoff game last year against the Commanders, they started Amik Robertson on the outside in Week 18 against the Vikings. Who was guarding Justin Jefferson all game? Amik Robertson.

Meek Robertson plays bigger than the 5, 8.5, 5.9 frame that he is. Same goes for DJ Reed. And I knew I was going to do this. So the Lions now have DJ Reader and DJ Reed. But Reed spent the last three years with the Jets. His PFF grades the last three years, 72.5, 77.9, 70.7. All very, very solid. In two years in Seattle, he had a 75 grade and a 78.6 grade.

Now Carl Davis graded a little bit higher this year than Reed did. Davis, I believe was at a 75. Reed was at a 70.7, but this is a dude that scraps, tackles, loves to get physical, loves playing man. And he's 28 years old. He's in the prime of his career. And guess what? Unlike Carlton Davis and God bless Carlton. I was a Carlton Davis, Stan. I was, but,

I know there are some everydayers out there. Shout out to the folks that watch and listen every day. One of our everydayers, one Joseph Allum was not a Carlton Davis fan because he was always hurt. Reed is durable. He missed this year, two games, three games. That's it. Year before he played in every game. So good ball skills, great tackler, DJ Reed, now a lion, um,

You know, I had a couple of people that cover the jets that just said, you know, perfect second tier corner. Well, here in Detroit, he's, he's cornerback one right now. You know, Terry on Arnold had a nice rookie year. It wasn't overly great. There were times that, you know, he struggled, especially early in the year, but DJ Reed's coming in here to be the best guy, unless you want to say a meek Robertson is, but again, those two guys, along with Ennis rake straw, Terry on Arnold. I think they're going to bring back another veteran, whether it's,

Khalil Dorsey, whether it's Vildor again, they're going to add somebody else that could draft a corner. Darius Slay, by the way, who I would have loved to see the Lions grab as an extra corner, is going to the Steelers. But I like the signing of DJ Reed. You get him for three years. You're not spending $20 million a year on him. $16 rather than $20, but regardless, you're saving $12 million, and you might be getting a better player and a more durable player.

a guy that plays more snaps, a guy that plays more games, but fits the profile for Detroit, 28 years of age. DJ Reed is the newest member of the Detroit Lions. Like I said, a little bit surprised that Brad Holmes pulled the trigger quickly. I know Green Bay was after him as well. By the way, as I'm recording here at 4.30, I know stuff's going to break. We'll talk about it tomorrow. I was thinking, do I do the show at night? But I want to give people...

the normal slot here when they, when they tune into lockdown lions, whether you guys are a view at a dinnertime, whether you're listening at night, whether you're listening on the next day, if there's stuff we miss, I promise tomorrow we'll hit on anything that we miss. There's a lot going on and it's free flowing. I still think the lions are going to sign a defensive tackle or defensive end. One of these days could be today. It could be tomorrow. As I'm recording right now at four 30, Levi owns a week. He's still on the board.

Um, so there are players still available. A lot of free agents that are still available. This was not a great class, but a lot of guys got a lot of money. Um, uh, Javon Kinlaw, who has never been anything special and has been a giant disappointment in his career, got $15 million a year today. The former 49ers de-tackle. I mean, some of these contracts, how is anybody paying Justin Fields $20 million a year? Oh my God.

God bless Aaron Glenn. Maybe Aaron Glenn, maybe AG saw what Justin Fields did against the Lions, especially running the ball. Because that was what Justin Fields did against Detroit in four games with the Bears. He ran. Maybe Aaron Glenn saw something. But two years, $40 million with $30 million guaranteed for Hall of Fields. My gosh. Crazy. All right. A couple of other Lion notes, including the return of Marcus Davenport.

and the goodbye, the departure of Cash Doll's boyfriend, Zedarius Smith. We will do that coming up next right here on LockedOnLines. All right, folks, it is tax season. You know what that means? Teams will officially announce the signings of players coming from other teams on Wednesday, but all the agents have obviously placed all the, all of the info and the eyes and hands and ears of Ian Rappaport and Adam Schefter and Tom Pellicero and Mike Garofalo and

All of the folks out there that are breaking news. But DJ Reed, the newest Detroit Lion, coming over as the newest cornerback from the New York Jets. Good football player. Liked the signing a lot. And I think pivoting off of Carlton Davis, who just wanted more money and got it from the Patriots. I think getting DJ Reed is...

A definite home run for this football team. All right, we talked Friday about Derek Barnes coming back, getting three years and $25 million to return to the Lions. No surprise over the weekend, Marcus Davenport is getting another opportunity for Detroit at one year and $4.25 million. It's kind of identical to the contract that he signed last year. And then, of course, week one or week two, Davenport went down with a season-ending injury. He said today he's in great shape.

And feeling like he'll be ready for the start of minicamp and everything else. Look, here's the thing with Marcus Davenport. All right. It's another one-year flyer. He never can stay healthy. Ever. So to sit here and go, oh, I'm going to grind my chaps over this. Is that a term? Am I going to get crazy about Davenport? It's a one-year deal. It's a one-year deal. It's another opportunity to prove himself.

for him to stay healthy and attempt to get to the quarterback. Because when Marcus Davenport is healthy, he's a good player. We saw it last year in the opener against the Rams. He got to Matthew Stafford. There were some pressures there. You went, all right, this is the guy we waited for to be opposite of Aiden Hutchinson. But he can never, ever stay healthy. So if healthy, nice addition. Lions need more.

It cannot just be Davenport and whomever else along that defensive line. As of right now, like I said, Onzerique is still available. But Marcus Davenport, when healthy, is a solid football player. Getting an opportunity on another one-year deal is a very Holmesian move by Brad to bring him back. So I have no problem with it. I just hope they can keep him healthy because he's always hurt, always hurt.

Um, as far as the Darius Smith goes, you know, is this a huge surprise? No. The Darius Smith, uh, was going to make 11 and a half million dollars this year. There was a lot of money that would also have been had to having have to have been poured into their 2026 cap. If they would have kept Smith with roster bonuses and everything else. Um, I think by March 15th, so, um,

They'll save $6 million on this year's cap by releasing, which they have already done officially, Zedaria Smith. I don't know. You know, I was never enamored with him. I liked the pickup at the trade deadline last year. And Brad Holmes made it a point of saying it was very, very difficult this past year to try and find somebody at the deadline to rush the passive.

They made calls about Miles Garrett. They tried to look for other players. They needed to make a move, and they did, sending some draft capital over to the Browns and everything else to get Z'Darrius Smith. His stats, I think, in terms of pressures and sacks, were better than what I thought was the overall result. I think there were too many games last year when you didn't call his name. We didn't even hear Z'Darrius Smith's name.

He'd get a sack early in the game and kind of do his crawl dance. And then you wouldn't hear from him. He's also 33 years of age. So I think the Lions are going to get a little bit younger at that spot. And I think they're going to sign somebody maybe late in free agency or who knows, even in the draft to fill that role.

But, you know, again, as of Monday at 438, as we're recording, and again, as we're recording, they could be signing six players. They need more help along the defensive line. And they've got the 28th pick in the first round where they can add a Shamar Stewart or Mike Green or any of these type of players. Jack Sawyer. There are going to be, there is a, there is a bevy and a plethora of good options for

on the defensive line, both interior and exterior edge rushers to, you know, for the Lions to go out and get.

I knew the Lions were not going to spend a fortune on an edge rusher. That's just not been Brad Holmes' MO. They wanted to replace Davis. They knew they needed a corner and they needed it to spend, and they did on D.J. Reid. But, you know, the money that like Adeo Ongbengo got from, Odangbo got from the Bears, I believe he got three years and $48 million, similar to the money that D.J. Reid got, the Lions weren't going to do that.

The Bears, and we'll talk about them in a second, that was a good move for them. All right? But I think for somebody like Brad Holmes, where the Lions have plenty of salary cap space, but again, they're thinking about next year too. Kirby Joseph is up after this year. Aiden Hutchinson's fifth-year option has to be picked up. Jamison Williams' fifth-year option has to be picked up now for next year, which will cost them, between the two of those guys, around $40 million. Then you want to re-sign Kirby Joseph.

All right. Hutchinson's going to want an extension. The money that's being thrown around now, including over the weekend when Miles Garrett just got $40 million a year from the Browns. I'm not saying Hutchinson's going to get 40, but if Crosby got 35 and a half and Hutchinson got 40, or excuse me, Garrett got 40, what's Hutch going to ask for? Especially if he comes back to form and is the type of player the Lions expect him to be.

You know, salary cap went up. Price of business is going up. You know, former Raiders safety morning would sign with the Panthers got three years and $51 million. Are you, does anybody in Detroit know who Trevon mooring is and how good he is? He's fine. He's a, he's a good player, but is he a, you know, 18, $20 million a year type player. Cam Bynum left the Vikings goes to the Colts got four at 60. I love Cameron Bynum. He's a good player.

That's a lot of money, though, for him. Never been a pro bowler. I mean, he's solid. But Byron Murphy's a better player in that Viking secondary. Josh Metellus is probably better in that secondary. Man, the Steelers. Could you imagine the Steelers about to be adding maybe Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, and George Pickens to the locker room? Having those three guys in the locker room. Can you imagine? That would be a hard knock you would not want to miss.

I still can't believe what Justin Fields got with the Jets. My God. Holy hell. And Sam Darnold going to Seattle. I mean, three years, 110 mil. Anybody watch the last two? Sam Darnold had a great year last year. Pro Bowl player. But wowzers, man. There's just a lot of scratch being thrown around. And we talk about this with the NBA all the time. You can't believe what some of these salaries are for players you haven't heard of or for players that just haven't really proven much. But this is the price of business right now.

But I like the fact that Brad Holmes is still somewhat conservative and not willing to go ridiculous on some of these contracts. The ridiculous contracts that Brad has signed has been his own guys, but they've all kind of deserved it. Amara St. Brown absolutely should be one of the highest paid receivers in the game. Same with Panay Sewell. The Bears got Drew Dallman, good, good, solid center from the Falcons, but three at 42 or what? That's a lot. He's never been...

Anything more than a middle tier center. But again, the Bears offensive line and defensive line has been so bad. That's what they had to do. All right. Speaking of Ben Johnson and the Bears, I want to poke fun at them yet again as people in Chicago are going nuts over their haul and free agency today. Lions win the regular season division. The Bears, they're the offseason champs.

Stayed up last night to watch a little piston basketball as they won out in Portland. If you had Detroit on FanDuel and bet on the spread or had some...

Player props with Cade Cunningham or whatever, Malik Beasley. You probably want some money. Well, guess what? March Madness is here. touchdown bears, the bears, Grady Jarrett got released from the Falcons. And I knew the minute I saw that I'm like, Oh man, that he'll, he'll go to the bears. And he did. So the bears today and in free agency have decided to do exactly what Ben Johnson's old team does. That would be the Detroit lions. And that would be to beef, really beef up their offensive line and defensive line. They're going to win in the trenches.

So I want to read, I had this up and now it's gone. I'm going to tell you everything that they've done today, but the bears got Grady Jarrett, the big defensive tackle exit the Falcons and spend a decent amount of money on him. The bears got drew Dolman, the center from the Atlanta Falcons. Another, I mentioned Dio and,

Oh, dang Bo Colts defensive end edge rusher. And a guy that came on late last year had a good season. He leaves Indianapolis to go to Chicago. So they get two on the defensive line. Then of course they got Jonah Jackson, Joe Tooney and, and drew Dolman center from the Falcons. So that offensive line is much better. It's overpriced. And some of those guys, including Tooney and Jackson, I think have played their best football in the past.

dolman's a good center braxton jones darnell right that offensive line it it it copies it's a copycat of the lions offensive line really how you look at the guards and tackles and the size and all of that and then the d line for chicago we knew about montez sweat last year but adding jared and adding odangbo they're trying to win up front

The reason the bears have been so bad for so long is they can't protect their quarterback, whomever it's been and other teams, quarterbacks kind of pick them apart because they don't really get to the quarterback. A few years ago, they had Khalil Mack. Like I said before, Montez sweat two years ago and they got him at the deadline in 23 was pretty solid last year for the money they gave him. I thought he was disappointing, but you're seeing Chicago is the off season champs again, trying to build through free agency, uh,

um and wow people but i do like their their game plan of kind of mimicking what the lions have done uh but again time will tell caleb williams still holds the ball too long all right but you're seeing what ben johnson is trying to do in chicago and he's copying the team that's won the division the last two years oh by the way that would be us here in detroit so um

shout out to the, to the off season champs for sure. I think, uh, you know, I think they're doing, they're doing good things. I, yes, I always make fun of Chicago. I make fun of the bears, but in this instance, uh, I got to give them some love going on, getting Grady, Jared and a dang bow today. Pretty good, pretty good moves. All right. Um, Packers went out and got the guard banks from the Niners paying him a lot of money. Um,

These are teams. It's funny within the division right now, how much these teams are all valuing the trenches, all of them. Minnesota is going to have to protect JJ McCarthy. Now JJ can move. We know that we saw that in college.

It appears he's the guy now that Sam Darnold has flown the coop for three years and $110 million to the Seahawks. I don't know what the Seahawks are doing. They're trading away everybody. DK's gone, got rid of Lockett. They're going to put a lot of stock into the draft. But, oh, by the way, Josh Sweat, there were a lot of rumors about Josh Sweat, the past rusher who had a great Super Bowl, ends up going for four years and over $70 million to Arizona.

Sweat gets paid big time by the Cardinals. There were some rumors earlier today. I guess Adam Schefter was on SportsCenter with, or on ESPN with Louis Riddick and Dan Orlovsky. And there was some people posting that they thought, they thought that Schefter had said in the background, I'm hearing Detroit when in reality it was Orlovsky saying about Josh Sweat, come to Detroit. So that did, that did not come to fruition. Yeah.

that, in fact, Joshua was coming to Detroit. As of now, Lions are still shopping and still looking around. But the addition of Reed is a good one. We'll get more into that.

maybe hit New York tomorrow and see if we can get somebody on to talk about read a little bit closer. The covers of jets. We may do that tomorrow, but we'll keep our eyes peeled on everything and continue to discuss how the lions are reshaping the roster a little bit and using free agency. We knew this was not going to be a team like a new England or a Carolina or the Raiders or some of these other teams that have had to spend a lot of money to kind of reshape the roster. You know, Brad Holmes, this thing is the draft.

but nothing wrong with adding a couple of free agents. And a guy like Tim Patrick, some of the Lions' own free agents, Zeitler, Patrick, Onzerique, at time of recording right now, are still available. Be nice to retain a couple of those guys for sure. Are we back again on a Tuesday edition tomorrow of Locked on Lions?
