Shownotes Transcript

Let’s talk money, scammers, and the industry of witchcraft. What’s wrong with making money off of legitimate spiritual work? Is it inherently the same force we’re trying to fight against (consumerism and capitalism?) Well, it can be – especially if they're scamming you on behalf of the ancestors, NO BABALAWOS IN THE DM! I also have a hot take about pastors getting a bag…because…I’m not mad at a nice new suit and some gators. What??? They supposed to be dusty???

You Are Welcome Here and There Film Crowdfund:  https://gofund.me/148c5f14)

This is a feature-length experimental documentary film following one spiritual family's journey to Nigeria as they recover the history and destiny that colonialism tried to erase. You Are Welcome Here and There is a moving ritual that travels through spirit realms and dimensions, illuminating the renaissance of Black Queer Peoples' return to African Traditional Religions.

Oreoluwa’s Bio:

The Living Breathing archive of what was, what is, and what will be. Through the use of images, moving images, and text, Oreoluwa crafts worlds where their multitudes have a place to exist. Oreoluwa weaves storytelling and sharing into the archive. To be the holder of you and your loved ones' archives is to care for your existence beyond life and death. Their work exists as a living prayer, a portal that acts as a catalyst for change.  As a priest of African spirituality, specifically of the Ifa and Orisa Isese practice, Oreoluwa is in constant conversation and reflection with their ancestors and spirit guides. With their practice, they work to un-demonize indigenous African spiritual traditions and remind the world that our practices are sacred and are a guide to remembering one's self and destiny.

Their recent short film, “SHINING, IN PLAIN SIGHT,” explores Black Queer and Trans people's relationships within African Spirituality. This short film is a collection of rituals, research, and recollection of experiences leading up to their new and upcoming experimental documentary film, You Are Welcome Here And There, directed by the artist and produced by their creative partner, Destiny “Egbeyemi” Hodges.
