Don told me, "We have had some incredible storms here over the past few weeks….on the Wirral Peninsula where I live there is a place called New Brighton which is on the coast and it has just been rebuilt after previous storm damage….so what have they built …cafes and huge department stores…which all got flooded out…..in 1979 the same thing happened…the tide destroyed a ballroom (which was attached to New Brighton Baths)…I know…because my band were playing there on that night…it needs a bit more sea defences because it will happen again…
Stonehenge has had a facelift….you could drive past up until recently but not any more….they have taken down the small visitor centre and replaced it with a fancy new one…at a cost of …wait for it 27 million pounds!!.......I don’t know how these people arrive at these figures…it’s a bunch of rocks for goodness sake…but no doubt someone will be making a load of money.
Our MPs have come under some criticism regarding “signing in” to Parliament…apparently if they “sign in” they get paid…even if they are only there for a few minutes…..a radio presenter was on and said that he interviewed an MP who “signed in” before he came to his programme…which meant the MP must have simply gone in and out….along with their 11% rise and all the expenses scandals you’d think they would learn wouldn’t you….
The words “dress code” really get up my nose….nowadays you get an invite to a wedding and the “dress code” is “black tie”….which means you have to fork out for a dinner SUIT followed by a present…followed by drinks at extortionate rip off prices followed by bed and breakfast….it’s bad enough being invited to a wedding reception of someone you hardly know without being taken to the cleaners by some overpriced hotel cashing in on snob value….but it’s their big day so that’s alright….there’s a hotel not far from here where you can pay up to £500 for a bottle of champagne…are they havin’ a laugh or what?
Rock and Roll is still very much alive on Merseyside…despite our ages…Harry Prytherch (once the drummer in the Remo Four) had a Xmas bash at Fort Perch Rock last Sunday afternoon which was great fun…the actual venue is a cellar so it was shoulder to shoulder…they had three bands on and a good time was had by all….then we had our Cheshire Cats party last Wednesday…rockin’ from 8.30 til 11.45…all the money goes to kids charities …great stuff…we can be checked out on www.thecheshirecats.co.uk .....we can still ROCK…providing we have a lie down afterwards…
