Every four years, athletes around the world celebrate the Olympic Games. They are preceded by the Olympic torch relay. This is a modern invention inspired by ancient Greece. It heralds the start of the Olympic Games and sends a message of peace and friendship along its route. It was first organised for the 1936 Summer Games in Berlin. It says a lot: an inhuman, authoritarian, despotic political system disguises itself with an act of peace and friendship. The question quickly arises: peace and friendship with whom? Only with one's own small circle of like-minded people and not with everyone else? While the torch relay and the desire for peace and friendship have survived to this day, the dictatorial system has thankfully not. Torches as hope. But more important are the bearers of these torches and their hearts. Do your heart and your hope match?
I wish you an extraordinary day!
