Modern technology makes it possible today for many things that used to be communicated verbally to be quickly sent digitally on a smartphone or computer in writing or as a voice or video message. Or as an e-mail. There you can read comments that the author would never have dared to say in a face-to-face encounter. The communicability of new technologies and digitalisation is disinhibiting. Often more to the detriment than the benefit. However, I recently noticed when I wrote a personal message to a close family member how it was easier for me to express my appreciation, admiration and love in writing than orally, because I could write all the things that I might not have dared to say for fear of rejection. This experience motivated me to become more courageous orally and to express appreciation, affection and gratitude more often and more directly.
