The metaphorical term "shark tank" is used as a figure of speech to describe an environment characterised by fierce competition, conflict and ruthless behaviour. It often refers to work environments or situations in which everyone is trying to get ahead at the expense of others. However, this is not necessarily the case, because sharks do not fight each other - partly out of fear of being seriously injured themselves. They are more like dogs, which bark but don't bite. The only exceptions are pair and territorial behaviour or a lack of food. If you feel like you are in such a dangerous environment, this may help you to put the supposed danger into perspective and to trust that it is not as dangerous as it seems or feels. A pool also has the advantage of having sides and therefore exit options.
