In summer, when it's hot, many of us are happy to cool off in a swimming pool or a public fountain. It's good for you, refreshing and fun. However, a lot of water is needed to fill the pool or fountain so that it can even get that far. But not only a lot of water is needed, but also a lot of patience. Expressed in figures, it looks something like this:
An average swimming pool 50 metres long by 20 metres wide and 2 metres deep holds around two million litres of water. If you fill it with an ordinary garden hose, it takes about 11.6 days! So when we mindlessly step into a pool, we don't think about how much preparatory work and patience others have had to put in so that we can now enjoy it.
